I transferred a couple of 200mb+ size MP4 files to my phone using KIES but for some reason it saves the files in the same folder as the photos gallery in the internal memory. I've got 100s of mp3 files which automatically store in the SD card but not the MP4 files. Obviously I'd like to keep the internal memory as free as possible. Thanks in advance.

Sometime when u booted up, your external card wasn't mounted. I can't find a solution other then performing a reboot.
Check under Settings -> SD card & phone storage, if your external card is available or unavailable.
It´s available 14,83 GB free ! Should the music files stores under music folder or just under external mem ? Must i transfer the files with LG suite IV or just drag/drop to external mem ?

Hmm it shouldn't matter where actually but I don't use Stock Music app so cannot confirm. I use PowerAMP. - my music files in ext sdcard.
If I remember correctly, I believe the stock music player only looks in the SD/media folder and all subfolders contained within. Can you locate the files using a file explorer program to verify they transfered correctly?
I think it doesn't matter which folder it is in. I have all my songs in a folder which I named "My Songs". And there's some more nested folders further down. They all gets recognised without any intervention from me. But the first scan took quite some time. Subsequent scans take only a couple of seconds.
Two ways media scanner will skip your folders.......
1. When your files in folder with folder name starting with "."
example, /.music <----- this folder will be skipped from scanning
2. When you have a ".nomedia" file inside a folder
I have solved it, thanks ! I am a noob, find out that _externalSD is not the real externalSD it is still on the phone, at last i find the 16gb external memory !!

I finally successfully flashed CM7 to my Captivate. The only problem I've encountered is that my phone apparently no longer recognizes video files. I transferred a few .avi files to my external SD card, but when I went to view them, they don't show up in the gallery or any of the apps that play video. When I check for the external SD in the file manager, the videos don't show up. I then plugged the phone back into my PC and copied the files from the external SD to the internal and they still don't show up in the gallery. They do show up in the file manager, but when I try to open them, I get the message that the files can't be played.
Has anyone else run into this or have a potential fix? Thank you.

I've heard that AOSP doesn't have access to all the codecs samsung does. You might need to grab a different app for it.
I tried to copy 4.3GB MKV file to note's internal storage. Then I cancelled as it was not completing, now 4gb of free space has disappeared from my internal memory, but I can't find a file to delete anywhere, certainly not in the directory I was copying to. Any one had this issue before?
Try Copy it again and delete it. otherwise try formatting internal Card
reboot the phone
i doubt you will be able to copy anything voer 4gig to the internal memory
there is a some work around to copy files larger than 4gb. it involves changing sd card to ntfs format. just do a search on xda.
This thing I find really annoying. If I've moved all my pictures/videos (including WhatsApp pictures etc.) and other data from my old phone's micro SD card (HTC) to the internal storage, a lot of the dates got adjusted. So a lot of my old pictures gets the date of today (just as a new picture) when I copy them to the internal storage. This is annoying because the pictures/videos doesn't show in the right order. For example a picture from 2011 shows like it's a picture from March 2013 -.-.
If I leave the pictures etc. on the micro SD there's no problem. But I prefer to use it without micro SD card.
I've tried copying with the app "ES File Explorer" and on the computer, but both give the same results. I really hope someone got a good solution for this.
Am I the only one who find this is annoying?
I think this is just the way it should be, when you copy a file it changes the 'creation date' of the copied file.
Because you duplicated the file and it was written.... today.
However if you zip a folder then copy it and extract it, files inside will keep the origninal creation date. (Also after extracting.)
Little work around and not easy to use on the go, but I guess you just want to copy your pictures once.
Kind regards, Stefan.
Thanks for your reply, but I've already tried that but it didn't work ;s. At least not for all photos. I've tried it on the computer and with ES File Explorer.
Alright, that is strange just tested and it works here without a problem.
Are you sure you do it like this:
- Use winrar to RAR or ZIP your pictures folder on the SD you want to copy them from.
- Once the archive is completed copy the ZIP or RAR archive to your internal storage.
- Once done, extract it from here.
Kind regards, Stefan.
Step 1 yes
Step 2 yes
Step 3, there this is a problem in MTP mode. On the computer I can't extract it to the internal storage or SD card storage.
I did succeed to extract it with ES File Explorer (app on my phone), but this also doesn't keeps the correct dates.
I've tried a few things. Switching between MTP en MSC mode, it makes difference. I've also tried copying photos in MTP mode from Internal memory to SD card, but this also effects the dates. Buttt if I copy the photos to my computer first and than switch to MSC mode and copy the photos to the SD card the photos are all OK.
But the problem is.. in MSC mode it doesn't support internal memory. So I still haven't a solution.
I noticed not all pictures got this problem. For example the photos which you have taken by yourself and have a "taken at" date in the photo doesn't have this problem. But the downloaded photos, like WhatsApp photos etc. does have this problem, because these have other date settings. The "modified at" date got changed in MTP mode.

Still haven't a solution ;(
Tried another thing. If I use the app Vaulty I can hide the photos and it gets encrypted. If I copy the encrypted files to the phone and open it in Vaulty all the timestamps seem OK. But if I let Vaulty to unhide the photos The problem with the timestamp got back. So the problem still isn't fixed.
It seems you are right, when I write or unzip files to the internal memory it does change the creation date.
I tried to zip files on and to the SD of the phone, thinking it would not make any difference if doing so to internal memory.
But I was wrong, sorry for that.
Installed AndoZip File Manager:
- Zipped a file from the SD card and extracted it to the SD card again, creation date IS NOT changed all good.
- Zipped a file from the SD card copied it to the internal memory and extracted it there, creation date IS changed no good.
- Zipped a file from the SD card and extracted it directly to the internal memory, creation date IS changed no good.
Think using zip or rar will not solve this problem.
Perhaps anyone else has a good idea to copy files but not change the creation date?
Kind regards, Stefan.
Thanks for your contribution
Yeah I would be really thankful if someone has a good solution for this. I find it really strange that no one is complaining about this.
The images, music and video files i put onto the internal storage doesn't come up in the album, video or walkman or other apps that can read these files but if you manually just open the file with those listed app it works but the properties are all unknown and stuff, however when i put these files onto a Micro SD card it reads it perfectly. Though when i take pics and gets saved in internal storage that still gets read.
i tried force stopping it and clearing data and stuff, reset no luck. Help

Copy everything you have on your internal storage to your pc and then copy them back to your storage. Sometimes that works.
