Screen black bug after lollipop update htc one m7 - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought a new m7 yesterday and my experience is horrible. It was all ok but after the lollipop upgrade everything is messed up.
Proximity sensor is totally fine because I have checked it with several apps...
problem one: the screen doesn't turn on after I remove tho phone from my ear while calling, so I can't hang up unless the other person hangs up.
Problem 2: Same thing with Lock Screen. It doesn't turn on..
Problem 3: my phone's touch is not working at a certain horizontal line along the screen, When I touch there, two touches are senses just right and left....
If anyone has encountered these problems, please give me a solution or find me a better solution.

looks like you are having hardware problem with the digitizer and the proximity sensor, you might want to send back this phone a get another one.

same issue 100% positive its a lollipop bug after a reset it gets fixed but if i update my apps through playstore it comes back

If the problem returns after updating your apps through the playstore then it's related to one of your app, not lollipop itself. One of your apps must be interfering with the screen or the proximity sensor.

[Q] Screen inaccuracy issues

I know that this has been a fairly common complaint about the Nexus One but i'm wondering, roughly what percentage of people actually have this issue? To clarify, i mean the problem whereby touching the screen in one place is actually registering elsewhere on the screen.
I've had this problem since buying my n1 and having to constantly turn the screen off and back on again was driving me nuts. Finally i sent the unit back to Vodafone for repair and they in turn sent it to HTC to be fixed. So yesterday i got it back with an enclosed statement along the lines of "we have fixed your fault etc..".
Three minutes into using the damn thing and the fault crops up again. So much for that! To be fair to Vodafone they are sending out a replacement unit now but of course i'm concerned that even that will have the same issue.
What are the odds?
Here is the same.
To developers: the fact that resetting the screen fix the problem makes me to ask if there isn't a way to make the screen re-calibrate itself every X seconds/minutes, without shut off and on the screen every time. Seems to be until now the only solution to this extremely annoying issue.
It really is a bizarre one. I've seen people discussing whether it's a hardware or software issue but nobody seems to have a definitive answer. If it were a hardware problem, surely it would be constant/permanent? If it's a software issue i would have thought that somebody would have bug-fixed it by now? Especially as it seems so prevailant.
I'm stumped!
Other than this one problem though i am completely in love with this phone. The device itself feels solid, durable and pleasant to use. Android is improving all the time and it always impresses when you demonstrate to the un-initiated what the device is capable of. So close to perfect...but not quite!
EDIT... This from the wiki.. "- Q5: Sometimes my screen registers touches in incorrect places, and I need to turn the phone off and on to make it work correctly again
A: This is a hardware problem, nothing can be done about it. Nexus One's digitizer sucks.
Ho-Hum.
I have experienced this problem on android 2.1 ever since upgrading 2.2/2.2.1, I haven't had the problem. I'm very happy with my screen

That suggests a software problem although i have had it on 2.1, 2.2 and now 2.2.1. I would say that it has happened to me within three minutes of using the phone, 50% of the time within that three minute window. In other words it's cropped up in half the texts/emails i have sent where i have had to do the screen off/on thing to complete the message.
Very annoying.
It has to do mostly with the way people hold their phones, the possibility of registering false touches - including, for example, touching the screen with fingers that aren't completely dry. Some have the issue more than others.
HW issues still can have SW workarounds sometimes. I'm not sure if it's the case. HW and SW need to be analyzed to find one, if exists.
There is no "calibrating" capacitive touchscreen. Resetting its controller might have effects like missing touches and other random screen misbehavior (for example - if the controller is tracking fingers, resetting it would cause it to lose the tracking).
Since getting my phone back from 'repair' the issue is less frequent, suggesting that it's not a usage problem as i'm obviously still using the phone in the same manner as before. Instead it seems that various devices suffer from the problem in varying degrees.
I suppose if i knew what they had actually done to the phone while it was being tended to it might help us discover why the frequency of the problem has been reduced. I know that the digitizer wasn't replaced as the phone came back with the same screen protector on it as it had when i sent it off. That being said, they obviously did something. I just don't know what!
Most probably replaced the phone's MB.
Try upgrading to the latest radio - the issue will probably not be 100% solved, but now I only get it maybe once a month or so...
I may tell them not to bother sending out a replacement. It's happening far less often since it was returned and (going by the poll results), there's a good chance that the replacement could actually be worse than this one is now.
Perhaps the 2.3 update will jar something loose.
ATTENTION PLEASE!!
after flashing miui latest ROM i've never had touchscreen issues anymore in over 20 hours of hard usage (also with the phone in charge!!).
I don't believe is a coincidence, developers please ask miui developers if they have integrated a code to fix this issues.
Thanks!

I have already restored cyano 6.1.1.
However, about "multitouch issues" I mean inaccuracy, the fact that the touch is recognised in another point of the screen (particularly when you press the bottom part of the panel). I didn't verified the axes-inversion issue, but I'm almost sure that it persists.
The "touch inaccuracy" is nothing else than the usual axis-swapping thing. When accidental dual touches (palm/holding fingers/water/etc) happen, the digitizer goes nuts.

I don't think so....I pay attentions when the screen goes crazy. I'm absolutely sure that (in charge for example) my touch is ONE.
The only times I was able to trigger the "screen nuts" effect, were when I was typing 2-fingered, and fast - making it register dual touches. Moreover, sometimes a single touch with a single finger is reported as series of touches. Once it happens, it stays until screen off.

I mean this....since I moved to MIUI this is not happened anymore.
Since I uninstalled Htcime the inaccuracy issues seem less so far! Almost only with the phone under charge ...much much better than before! Dunno why....

[Q] Proximity sensor issue???

Wondering if someone (hopefully more than one) can check something to see if this is an issue with my particular phone or something related to the software/hardware. It seems that when a call is placed or received, the proximity sensor goes to "far" and won't reset until it is uncovered and then re-covered. I have searched through the Verizon HTC One forums and have not found anything related to this issue.
If the proximity sensor is covered, and I make a call (via bluetooth headset (double click for last dialed)) or receive a call, the proximity sensor goes to the uncovered state. It then stays in that state until I uncover and then re-cover it. How I checked this was using Elixir 2 and checking the sensor data. I also set up variables in Tasker and Automagic.
So, this was my test procedure:
I start the sensor data in Elixir 2 for the proximity sensor. I cover the sensor with my finger (it now shows "near"). I use my bluetooth headset to place a call. The screen comes on with the current call. I back out of the current screen (the phone screen) and get back to Elixir 2 sensor data. The sensor now shows "far". From that point on, until I uncover the proximity sensor and then cover it, it shows far. I set up variables in Tasker and Automagic that show the same results.
I am running the stock debloated ROM. Rooted and S-Off.
EDITED:
So, this is the latest for my issue. I went from stock ROM to ViperOne 5.8.0. I am still getting the same results. So, I think I have eliminated the software side of it. Would that be right? So, it could be the firmware or the hardware? I'm still wondering if it's my phone only or if it is an issue with the HTC One in general. Is there anyone that can check this? Or give me another route to take?
I'm on ViperOne 5.8.0
Android 4.4.2
Senses 5.5
Any other info you might need, please just ask.
Some thing like that happened to me and i posted a thread and no answers.
My problem is that when the phone is in my pocket only one speaker is ringing(the lower one) and when on the desk face up both of the speakers are ringing.I noticed this affects only the call option(if i get a sms/notication and it's in my pocket/desk both of the speakers work).i've made all off the tests i can find am the problem seems to be from software. When i cover with my finger the sensor and some ones call s me only the bootom speker is ringing, when removing my finger from the sensor and receving cal SURPRISE both of the are ringing.
I've change the software ARHD 53 with ELEMENTALX Kernel.

Well, seems to be the same here. I have this posted under the Verizon HTC One > One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting as well as here and at the Android forums. It seems that either no one else is having this issue, no on cares or no one can run this test with free programs. I dunno. The problems I have is that I use by bluetooth headset most of the time. I am a blue collar worker and try not to pull my phone out of my pocket when my hands get filthy. But, when I take or make a call using the headset, the display kicks on and then stays on because I can't use the proximity sensor to turn the screen back off. Guess I'll have to try other routes. This sucks. LOL
I haven't heard of the other issue you are referring to. I can tell you that I have not had that issue with my One. Doesn't mean that it's not a problem. Have you checked the Sounds settings for pocket mode and quiet ring on pickup? If so, I think I would try to either get with Verizon about it or maybe even HTC. It definitely sounds like it could be a phone issue. But I'm kind of new to all of this.
Same problem here, when i'm in a call the screen go on, very annoying.
Now i'm trying this app "rezound prox sensor calibrator"
I've tried every possible solution including Pocked mode& Quiet ring.I still think this is a soft bug till further notice.
Lets hope we get a answer soon.Btw same here with the headset,I'm using a hands free and when i answer/call some one i must manually turn off the screen or its turn of by itself after 1-2 min i think.

It's not a calibration issue. When the phone rings or you make a call via a headset and the proximity sensor is covered (ie. in your pocket or screen face down), the display kicks on and the prox sensor seems to default to "far" or "uncovered" (whatever term you like). It will remain at that value until you ACTUALLY uncover the sensor and then cover it back again.

The problem I have is that while the display is ON and sitting in my pocket, I have a chance of butt dialing someone or starting programs that drain the battery in addition to the dsplay being on. Not to mention, with the display on in my pocket, the heat builds up in the phone. I guess I have a $700 butt warmer? LOL

Screen flickering and artifacts.

Hi All,
After updating to Oreo got this weird issue, screen flickers every, roughly 2 seconds. Wit the times it also starts showing some color artifacts, freezing some parts of the screen and eventually going to complete gray-to-black flickering only. Anyone experienced something similar?
I'm thinking it may not be Oreo upgrade related just (unfortunately) some hardware issue.
Cheers
AlzirR
I've had similar issue after updating to oreo.
Half screen displayed artifacts.
Nokia replied to me saying that there is a bug in display drivers. Probably gong to update it soon.
Had to send it back.
Replacement works fine.

The left half of my screen is covered with black/white/grey artifacts. Sometimes after resetting or going back to factory defaults the screen goes back to normal again.
Running Oreo on a 128gb Nokia 8. REally hope it is software related (driver?). So far installing the latest updates doen't fix the problem.
Switched back to my old Samsung Galaxy S6 but man I miss my 8 already.
I changed the motherboard and I got ghost touch problem then I change the lcd and everything seems fine to me
I don't think is sw problem
I have the same problem today. As i received a call, display start to flicker. As i have all imp docs in my phone as i relies on NOKIA , I am as nothing. Somehow I am able to reset to factory reset. phone start works, but I lost all my valuable datas. How can one relies on NOKIa, who was one of BEST
Bro I have a issue of red strip visible on egdes when we turn on night mode for long time with a grey background

Flickering dot under display in notification area

Hi all,
Been quite a few years since I posted anything here!
I have just received my pixel 5 and have noticed that dead center of the notification tray when in portrait, there is a flickering dot, especially in low light it flickers white or if not flickering leaves a faint grey dot over whatever is on the screen (stays in the same place even if I rotate the phone or watch a video)
If I reboot I can't see it for a minute or so until it then appears.
Factory reset doesn't solve it.
Has anyone else noticed this? I'm thinking it might be the ambient light sensor under the display but it is really irritating, possibly mine is faulty?
Cheers!
It's the underscreen proximity sensor.
I get that it is the proximity sensor but, It is flashing constantly - I spoke to google and they said that it should only show when in a call - it is flashing even while watching YouTube - does anyone else get this same behaviour?
Not showing on mine
I have it constantly when KinScreen is running, I saw someone having it with cpuz
I hadn't noticed until I saw this thread. I did wonder where the proximity sensor was. It's only visible when on a phone call for me.
Is the light sensor under the screen also? You can usually see that on a lot of devices when you tilt the screen slightly.

You probably have some apps using it. Possibly something like Tasker that happened to have proximity sensor based profiles configured, etc.
Mine went mental during Google Play downloading all my apps on initial phone setup. Then it went out and I've not seen it since.

It's a software bug. I read about it on reddit and twitter yesterday. Did you move your data from your old phone using the cable?
To fix it you should factory reset, then migrate your old data using WiFi, not cable, don't restore or restore your apps manually (at least until you make sure it's fixed).
If that still doesn't work, check if you have an app called HomeAssistant (HASSIO) installed. There's one report of that causing it. To fix that you need to disable the proximity sensor on the assistant app itself.
Sources: here, here, and here.
I got the same Problem after installing notifybuddy. There must be some Bug where the sensor gets started the moment an overlay is shown. I can reproduce the Bug over and over again. Install notifybuddy and Start the App give all permissions and than Pull down notificationscenter (its an overlay). To solve the Problem, uninstall notification Apps That are using overlays.
Mine is working fine. Only during a call or listening to voice messages.

Hit the nail on the head there!
It was the Home assistant app causing it (even though it had installed after restoring from my backup, I had never opened it yet since having this phone). Uninstalled home assistant and it has stopped flashing!
Thanks so much for the replies all!
Have this issue on my one too...which is the home assistant app? Deleted the "Home" but that doesn't seem to have solved the problem.

Go to the gestures options (don't know exactly where the specific one is located, it could also be at the Digital Wellbeing settings) and disable the Flip to Shh one. See if that helps.

The Home assistant is a 3rd party home automation app that I had previously installed - if you don't use it, I'd check for any other apps you have installed for something that might be using the proximity sensor.
Couldn't find that was causing the issue. After a restart it would be fine but once unlocked and apps started loading it would go crazy. Went through all my apps but couldn't find the cause so just reset my phone. Hopefully it doesn't show up again.
Seems to.be software issue so hopefully google will do something about it

It really shouldn't matter if something is using the proximity sensor. It shouldn't ever be visible.

That's incorrect. A quick Google search for "S20 proximity sensor blinking" will yield results that show otherwise. Maybe go to YouTube instead as there's quite a few videos there on it. The Samsung subreddit has an influx of posts, it seems, for almost every device they've released over the past couple of years because folks aren't used to seeing it. It's visible under the display on my S20 Ultra and I had it on my S10 plus also.
Now of course there's bugs where it's blinking on the Pixel 5 when it shouldn't, but is it supposed to be visible when an app is using it legitimately? Yes.
Edit: It just dawned on me that YouTube vids wouldn't be the best example of this because they use cameras to video the proximity detector. Everything else stands though. Google searches and Samsung subreddits are ripe with examples though.

If what you are saying is true then why can't you see the sensor flashing on any phone when in a phone call or when the "Flip To Shhh" feature is enabled with just your eyes?
And if that is true about the Pixel 5 then there will be no way to use the "Flip To Shhh" feature without always seeing the sensor flashing which I can do with my Pixel 2 XL.
Here is a video of my Pixel 2 XL taken with the camera on my tablet. You can see that the tablet picks up the flickering sensor when "Flip To Shhh" but the sensor goes off when I turn the feature off. That's because the feature uses the proximity sensor to work. However, the flickering is ONLY picked up by the camera on my other device. I can't see it with just my eyes looking at the phone even though the sensor is active.

S10 plus touch sensitivity not working

I have a stock s10 plus. at first, the issue happened when I tried to pull my notification panel down but realized touch screen isnt working but its localized toward the top. Over the next few days, the area spread from top of the notifications bar to half of the screen and finally to my fingerprint scanner. I though the display is damaged but testing it with *#0*# test prove its working. locking the screen and unlocking it seems to fix it temporarily but it happened after a minute or two. my device feels laggy when the display is working normally. No visual damage nor did I damage it in any way

It sounds like mobo issue... as the display tests normally and firmware doesn't fix it.
