Well, title says it all. A horrible combination of problems, since i have to get in fastboot to wipe the cache, which only can be done with volume down. Battery reset by pressing power + vol down + vol up doesn't work either for the same reason. Its horrible. I don't know what my best option is. For some reason, I always get stuck with a device which is screwed on the essential points. My previous Sensation lost its volume key as well..
And the most interesting / ridiculous thing is, that the vol up key DOES work. It's only the volume down key. From outside, you can't see any damage. You can just push the key.
Volume problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij_GldgwJFM (not me)
Battery problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_Nll_01jG0 (not me)
Any advice?
Some progress, removed the volume button cap, and after some fiddling with the metal contacts underneath my vol down works.
However, battery problem still persists. Again, problem is twofold: 1: battery charges only when turned off, and very slowly. 2: battery drains much faster than normal. Here's what I did till now:
- Factory reset
- Wipe cache partition
- Battery reset trick (not sure if it works, the phone just keeps booting, how do i know if its succesful?)
- Removed some dust from the port, cleaned the contacts with alcohol
- Charged to 98 percent, then repeat step three, no difference
Things I can think of:
- Buy cans of compressed air and contact cleaner to clean port even better
- Order a new micro usb port
Any help is very much appreciated!!

Hey guys, here's what's wrong.
I was running the latest version of MIUI and found it to be annoyingly buggy, so I installed Cyanogen from ClockworkMod and start installing it. It ended up hanging halfway through and wouldn't progress. I made what was probably a dumb decision and decided to turn it off since it seemed to have frozen.
Now...it won't turn on. If I connect a wall charger or USB cable, the symbol of an empty battery with the white loading circle comes up for about five seconds, but the circle is not rotating and the screen goes black. This repeats nonstop.
Holding down vol down + home + power to get it into Download mode fails, it just says LOW BATTERY CAN'T DOWNLOAD in red letters. Doing the same with the volume button up gets nothing. I've tried leaving it to charge for two days with no results.
I bought a USB jig and tried using it (removing battery and SIM card, putting battery back in, plugging jig in) but it does nothing. I've tried several times.
Any advice? Is it just dead?
try an external charger to charge your battery or borrow someones battery to test your phone. failing that, charge your battery in someone else's phone.
Was the battery full when you tried installing cyanogen mod, and did you follow the instructions fully?
Clean the battery contacts on both the battery and phone pins. Use another charger, and check the port for blockages/dirt (blow in it).
Try another battery..
-Leave the jig in for 30 mins.
-Hold the combo and then put the battery in whilst holding the combo.
-Plug into your computer (with battery) and try the combo. Then try without, and put battery in whilst connected and whilst holding.
-Hold combo then plug into computer
Some of the methods above may require some extreme skill or a helping hand
It could be water damage.
I don't think it is bricked as i don't think those messages would be showing up, but i could be wrong.
If none of that works and no-one else comes up with any other ideas then you may have to use the unbrickable mod. Search for it, it's a hardware hack..
Good luck
Hello. This morning I've turned off the alarm, turned on WIFI and went back to sleep. I can't tell for sure, but I think the battery was low. During the next 2 hours I checked the time several times. I don't remember accepting any OTA. Eventually I got up, tried to check the time and the phone was off. I tried to turn it on, no effect. No matter how many times and for how long I pressed and held the power button, the green LED only flashed for a split second and that's all. I plugged in the charger, and the LED stayed lit -but- there was this barely noticeable flickering. Charged it for about 30, 60, 120 minutes, didn't start plugged or unplugged. I went to work, 8 hours later (phone was unplugged) I tried to turn it on again, this time the LED doesn't even flash, but when charging there is no flickering. No combination of buttons works. Windows doesn't find the device, neither does RSD.
I've never done anything 'custom' to the phone. The last change I made was setting the alarm to turn off by shaking (yesterday, never used this option before).
Is it dead?
Try taking SD card out and holding Vol down and then Power for 20 secs, then let go of Power,
Already done that, nothing. No matter how long I charge it now, after unplugging and pressing power button the LED doesn't even flash. Could it be a battery problem (before its death, it would last for a day)? Is there any way of recovering my data without buying a new one?
Try opening and disconnect battery for a bit.
I'll do that as a last resort, on weekend maybe since I don't have the tools with me. Any other clues?
Nobody knows how to help me?
I'm going to make a factory cable. Will this alone allow me to recover the data? Or if I'll be able to flash the phone, can I recover the data afterwards?
Also, I'm not sure if I understand correctly: does the factory cable recharge the battery or not? Is there a way to recharge it when removed from the phone?
Try to use medfield unbrick script. If You have only green led it seems to be bootloader error so this script should bring Your phone to life or Your phone has broken emmc and You can start looking for a new logic board. Good luck.
I've installed the drivers, but Windows and XFSTK don't recognize my device at all. Factory cable also didn't help. I liked my phone very much.
Did You enter medfield mode using combination with camera button??
By a combination you mean holding the camera button and connecting the phone to a pc? I tried that.
Disassembe Your phone, pull out battery, push power button for a 10 sec, plug in battery, push camera button and connect USB. If it wont help You I don't see any hope for Your phone.
Well, new option to try is a new hope. I'll try that on the weekend. Could you please be more specific:
1. Pull out the battery.
2. Press the power button and wait 10 seconds.
3. Insert the battery: should I be still holding the power button at this moment?
4. Press the camera button.
5. Plug in the usb cable (factory? regular?) - should I be still holding the power and camera buttons?
Battery trick is only to discharge capacitors. Sometimes even phone is dead it can turn on in some strange mode and then You can't boot it to flash. Thats why You need to pull out battery, push power for a few sec to completely discharge motherboard and just release this button. After that You can just plug in battery and continue normal unbrick process - so hold camera button only and connect regular usb cable.
You can also try reset option instead of pulling battery out. To do that do not disassemble Your phone but just plug in regular USB, when phone starts (green led) hold power and vol- until green led goes off and then quickly start holding only camera button.
I have no more ideas.
Ok, I've tried everything. Nothing brought my phone back to life.
Thanks for all your help.
So I think I did something which I've not done before - brick my phone completely.
I got two Z3C so this is my 'spare' one which I was testing CarbonROM on. Because I want to ease my transition to a new ROM I wanted to backup my entire "main phone" and restore it on my secondary phone, with TWRP. When I tried this, it seemed like it only wanted to restore system, data (excl storage) and something else I can't remember. But it didnt include the FOTAKernel and stuff I had taken a backup of from the other phone.
Anyway, the restore failed when it came to data (excl). I gave the phone a reboot and since then it's just been flashing a red light. I can't hold down power button and vol down to simulate the battery pull. If I plug in USB while holding volup or down it doesnt enter flashmode or fastboot - it just blinks red.
The phone was plenty charged when I worked with it, 50%+ was the last battery level TWRP told me.
Other googlings bring me to people who write its a hardware fault - dead motherboard or so. Others have experienced it with waterdamage and stuff like that but my scenario is nothing like this.
Any clues ?

I don't think you can restore from a different phone. That's probably the cause. However, I also have not heard of a hard-brick happening just by trying to flash the wrong thing in TWRP, (but maybe possible).
I have had the red light issue a few times, after flashing bad zip, but not on Z3c, on my XA, and I was able to resurrect it by holding down volume and power buttons while plugging it in, but for some reason, it only worked when I used a different charger/cable. All of a sudden it pops back to life with zero battery, (it was full when it died). Maybe you can try that.
I've also found that with some custom rooms / kernels, you need to hold volume and power buttons for about 10 seconds to get it to respond...

Hm. I've had it charging from USB connected to my laptop overnight - nothing different. Plugged it into a real charger when I went to work, will see when I get home.
It doesn't react to the powerbutton + voldown combo, which I've used extensively in the past. I haven't tried plugging it while holding any button. Did you plug it into a charger or computer USB port?

I did the same thing for a whole day, (tried to leave it plugged in to charge), and no response, but when I changed the cable and power source, and held down the buttons while plugging it in, after a few tries with different buttons, it suddenly popped on, with zero battery, and started charging.
Also, you might try posting in a TWRP thread. See if anyone has seen this before...
With a very Big Blunder, I just tried to Boot my Note 8 with Galaxy S7 Edge Battery, without taking care of the Battery Terminals. Ended up with a Dead Phone, No Boot, No Download mode, No Recovery not even any sign of Battery Charging....
Failed Experiments:
1. Tried to Turn ON after 2 Hours of Continuous Charging Plugged
2. Tried to Connect with my PC (No Signs of Detection)
3. Tried to Turn ON with Volume Down Key Pressed
4. Tried to Turn ON with Volume Up Key Pressed
5. Tried to Turn ON with Volume Up & Bixbe Keys Pressed
6. Tried to Turn ON with Volume Up + Down Key Pressed for even 60 seconds passed, but no Luck
So, it may be a Hardware Fault... Anyone can guide, what worst could happen with this kind of Silly Mistake!!
Could it be Recoverable? Battery is giving 4.5V, Charging Flex Board (Sub PBA), upto Sub PBA Connector is giving 4.5V while connected to Charger.
If anyone can help me in this type of Fault, will really be appreciated. (Thanks in Advance)
I've got an SM-T800 behaving very oddly, hope someone knows what's up!
If you attempt to boot it, it will flash up the Samsung logo, then die, and repeat in an endless boot-loop.
If you hold the power button down, oddly, it changes; instead it will proceed to the animated SAMSUNG logo which will then continue to pulse in and out indefinitely until you get bored and release the power button... at which point it instantly dies and then begins boot-looping again.
If you try to enter recovery by holding power + volume up + home, it will do so, but the moment you let go of the power button it dies.
Thinking it was down to the battery, I tried replacing it, and if anything the behaviour has been worse since!! It was at least possible previously to get the thing to sit in recovery without rebooting, but now it never does if you let go of the power button.
I've also tried reflashing the default firmware via ODIN; the one thing that always works is the download mode (power + volume down + home); I can reliably boot it into download mode and flash via ODIN, but then on reboot, it gets partway through the installation process (like a few seconds in) and then boot loops back to the samsung logo again.
Now it's difficult to get it to even charge; it will keep looping the charging symbol (battery with a lighting bolt on it) on and off the screen unless you fettle the buttons until it just sits at a black screen. I can see from the USB charger it is still drawing charge current.
Any ideas??!
It probably dead. Speaking as someone who had this issue for countless devices, I say that your battery probably can't hold enough charge anymore to completely power the device through.
It doesn't matter even if you charge it to 100%. The battery had degraded to a point where a minimal charge required to let the device pass the crazy power surge required during Android boot is just not meeting the minimum.
Hence it fizzles out. And rebooted.
I kept replacing my Galaxy S5 battery until few months ago, no battery I bought is enough to fully power it on anymore.
Thanks for the response; alas, I already tried replacing the battery; if anything it was worse! I suppose it is possible that the replacement battery was also a dud, though? Unfortunately it may be difficult to do a load test (a lot of batteries might not even provide power without specific conditions being met), perhaps I can probe the pins while it tries to boot and see if the voltage sags or something.
I have the same problem and I found this in Yoube; search for "Samsung galaxy tab s restarting issue" video from "Electronics repair school"
It shows bad contact on battery connector soldered side...
I have the same issue, I can hold down the power button and it will boot up completely. As soon as I let go, it reboots over and over again. So far I've replaced the:
USB Charger Port Connector Module Flex Cable
LCD Connector Flex Ribbon Cable
and the Battery
No change in boot up - The only option left , I think, would be to replace the main board. Any thoughts?
i got that issue too,
i did kind of a battery recalibration
meaning: i fully discharged my sm-t800 (took me some time doing reboots until the tab was totally dead)
then charged it to 100% without booting it
unplug it and reboot.
and well, now it works again
the clue here is:
the system stored wrong battery data over the time, so it randomly thinks the battery is at 0% and does an auto-shutdown. To repair this, you have to reset the system with recalibrating the battery, so the system deletes all old data and starts logging new data.
in my case this procedure worked out great
hope you guys will have the same success as i did
Hello everybody!
I thought I would let you know how I solved this issue WITHOUT having to do a full factory reset...
Or so I thought.
Turns out that it started shutting down and bootlooping after a while again.
Even after I ordered a replacement battery and charged that up. At first it looked like it would work and then it started shutting down randomly and bootlooping.
Probably will have to throw the thing out since it doesn't want to work. Makes no sense how its so uncooperative even after putting in a new good battery in the tablet but there's not nuch more that can be done.
If I just start it *sometimes* it will boot up and get to the android OS. Then work for a while before shutting down.
Sometimes it just bootloops at the Samsung Galaxy S logo over and over.
Holding the power button it does boot but if you release the button it MOST often just shuts off and bootloops.
Anyone know if there's anything to be done to fix this?

I have had the same experience with my T800. What I have been doing is to tape the power button down using scotch tape. The tablet can be waken up by pressing the home button. In my case, I need to remove the button to recharge the tablet.. So far so good.
