Flash stock firmware on Mac - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I would like to try flashing stock firmware on my Note 5 to see if it can help with some of the glitches I'm seeing. Unfortunately I'm not having much luck with the common routes.
Smart Switch: tried the initialization process severall times. It never works. It goes through all the steps, but doesn't actually flash the firmware.
Jodin3: dowload site for Jodin3 is offline... I can't find a copy.
Online Jodin3: seems no longer compatible with the latest Java version.
Can anyone help? How can I flash stock firmware (I already have the correct .tar.md5 file)?

Parallel or Vmware Fusion and run odin natively.

Hmm that seems risky. A quick google search shows rather differing opinions on this method.

It works. Flashed my S6 Edge with the XEU firmware via Odin 3.10 in Parallels 10 on the Mac running windows 8.1
Posted using Tapatalk

Did anyone ever manage to flash stock firmware using Jodin3 on Mac? I got the software running, loaded up the firmware, clicked start and nothing. It just sits there. So frustrating!

I guess Odin still is not supported on OS other than Windows. Correct me if I'm wrong. And for getting Odin worked on Ubuntu, you may need to install VirtualBox and install Windows, and access inside it.
ok it is possible to launch odin inside ubuntu using wine, but due to lack of drivers phone is pretty much undetectable, anyway the virtual machine idea is good and as far as I know about VirtualBox and VMware this might actually work

Using Wine maybe a bad idea for Odin and yes you are right without Kies (Samsung drivers) phone will not get detected. And we can't depend on Wine for 100% on all Windows applications. Some won't work correctly. And as you're aware of Virtualization technology, it might be a better plan.

You have other options; Maybe you can run Windows with Odin and Kies in a Virtual Box. And there's also a lot of Windows XP portables to boot with a usb stick without change your OS ;D
I'm sorry for the bad english.
I am an ubuntu user also, I installed windows beside linux jsut to use odin.
It is possible to flash roms through linux but its little bit complicated since the only available way is using the command line (terminal)

Latest source for heimdall includes heimdall-frontend which is a GUI on top of the heimdall command line. I was able to build it from source very easily reading instructions from README files. Since I can't post links yet search for "Heimdall 1.3.2 Source (Github Repository)".
UPDATE: Avoid heimdall 1.3.2 as I ran into open issue 32 "Failed to confirm end of file transfer sequence, DATAFS upload failed" when flush samsung galaxy s2".
Instead use 1.3.1.
Important things to remember or else you could brick your device:
heimdall command line and heimdall-frontend are from same release or there will likely be compatibility issues.
Careful not to overwrite bootloader unless you know what you are doing
Only use heimdall firmware packages that are compatible with your device
If you found this useful I would appreciate your hitting the Thanks button below.

Heimdall is the answer
Hiemdall isn't compatible with our SGM as I heard so I don't try it to not brick my phone.
The only way is to modify the ROM and make it CWM flashable.. how? I don't know! If you know please teach me.

Heimdall 1.3.2 has issue 32, use 1.3.1

I was trying to root my phone using step 2 of "[GUIDE] How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash Counter!!" and ran into heimdall's issue 32 ""Failed to confirm end of file transfer sequence, DATAFS upload failed" when flush samsung galaxy s2". Reverted to 1.3.1 and all was well. So you may want to avoid 1.3.2.

First, I just discovered "[GUIDE] How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash Counter!!" on this forum (threadid =1311081). That was incredibly valuable. I used step 2c using Heimdall. If Heimdall is not an option for your device then would either 2a or 2b work for you (it wont if you are on UCKK6). If they wont either then all I can think of is to do 2c like me but instead of heimdall use ODIN using a friend's Windows machine or running a windows virtual machine like VirtualBox, VmWare etc. with USB support. Note that I have not tried this option and cannot vouch that it works. Perhaps someone else can? Best of luck and please click Thanks button below my post if you found this useful.

its not the answer unless an s3 or older used the s6 pit cannot even be retrieved by jodin for example and the only way to root marshmallow is off the odin bootloader FACT
anyone know where i can get the pit file for the sm-j327p? I had somenoe access my phone and delete everything so i have no pit file which I am assuming is needed to setup the partitions.

[Q] How to root galaxy note GT-N7000BDULB3 version

Hello xda developers
I am wondering if someone can answer a few questions i have about rooting my samsung note?
I'm in Australia and just got my note with vodafone on Saturday. I have been doing some searching in the dev section and I haven't found my kernel version (2.6.35.7-N7000BDULB3-CL977082) to download from dr.ketan I have also searched for it on sammobile.com with no luck also.
So from the above statement does anyone know where i can get a copy of it from or know how i can backup mine from my phone atm?
I have found a root solution however It is for the GT-N7000 model which is at rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-gt-n7000-method-2odinheimdall
If I followed this above method would I end up bricking the phone as the phone version are different? I found nothing on a search when comparing the two
Sorry for an the essay of a post too.
Looks like you're the only guy in the whole wide world with the exotic N7000BDULB3 GB, mate.
https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=N7000BDULB3&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
Anyway, you can always flash and root and older Rom, then upgrade to whatever you want whilst keeping your root. Here's a little guide to downgrading and rooting I wrote some time ago, hope it helps.
You'll have a rooted KK9 rom after you're done. Then you can download any new GB version (LC1 is the latest) from here and flash it with Mobile Odin, with Everroot and Inject Superuser options ticked. That will keep your root.
Good luck.

Thanks so much, and your posts are one of the easiest to follow and gives a great head start for noobs! Great Job really!
I used this method and now I see a yellow triangle.
1. Will this yellow triangle during boot up, disappear if I follow your unroot method?
2. Will my phone can be updated to ICS once Samsung officially provides upgrade to ICS for Galaxy Note?
3. I tried SetCPU, the phone became very hot, when I over clocked and it just hang. I brought it back to normal.
4. What are all the other useful, important things we can do after root, other than installing Titanium Backup etc.

This might be a stupid question chasmodo so bare with me.
With the KKA firmware when extracted I get the 2 files like you said the .tar.md5 and the dll file.
In odin do i just select the .tar.md5 file under the pda option? or do i have to put the dll file in an option as well.

Do you have Sammy drivers installed on your PC? This is important. From Dr Ketan's guide:
"Install Kies on your computer, connect your phone and make sure that all the drivers installed correctly."

using the firmware like u suggested to downgrade too as well.
seem to fail when it goes to boot.ini and the kernel section just fails there?
Think I should try flash a kernel or something?

Stock boot.img and recovery.img

Just in case someone needs this here are stock
recovery.img and stock boot.img.
Both have been tested and working fine.
I used heimdall to flash them few times but I think it should work with ODIN as well.
Haven't tested it with ODIN tho.
If you gonna use heimdall here is the galaxy4.pit file.
So if something goes south you can flash back to stock again.
I had to do that many times yesterday as I was testing recoveries made by Shabbypenguin and kernels that I was trying to build.

I used qbking77's UTube video to root and it went ok but I really would like to unroot and I have no idea how to do this. Is there a simple way to unroot? You can keep the root untill you know more about it and start using all benefits.
It won't bug you and won't brake anything on your phone.
Actually if you not using any apps that require root access you won't even notice that you are rooted.
So no worries.
I haven't look into any unrooting methods and don't even know if they exist as of now so if you want to do it you should
keep looking for it.

I place the phone in flash mode, and it doesn't detect the device. I used the older Heimdall to flash my GS1 many times, but it has never worked with my gs4. In fact, I can't even get usb debugging or adb to work either. I monkeyed around with udev trying to get it working, still no luck. I have Fedora17 at the moment, and I wouldn't be surprised if that had something to do with my frustrations.

Never used Fedora. So I'm not much help here.
I know I had to update my Heimdall from 1.3.2 to 1.4 to make it work with GS4.
I don't have any problems with it ever sense.
But my adb and debugginb are working as well.
So may be some missing drivers?

n920i odin failing

Not that familiar with odin or samsung, previously htc
using odin in a windows 7 virtual machine under ubuntu, if that makes a difference
Trying to flash australian optus firmware over singapore firmware my phone came with but odin fails iafter initilization so not sure where to go next
really want australian settings and keyboard etc
Cant upload a screencapture sadly but odin fails after the setupConnection step
and returns complete (write) operation failed?
using latest drivers etc? Anyone got an idea of what im doing wrong?
Do i need to activate something in developer options or something to allow odin to connect?
It is really straight forward. Download the Samsung drivers so you computer can recognize your phone. Download the firmware, put phone in download mode using ODIN 3.10.7.1.
In the past when I flashed firmware it wiped my phone and reinstalled all my files. When I flashed tonight I see it changed my Kernel back to stock, but all my data and files were still there.
Well that is how you would ODIN your phone back to stock.

Hi Vincom, yes i have already read the article. the main reason im flashing the rom is because of the hidden DATA icon in the toggle screen. and also i want my phone to have the OREO update as well. this is my first samsung phone. i have experience in flashing ROMs in my xiaomi redmi 1s phone. so im a bit skeptical if i can do this on my own. this odin process is very new to me. so what is the worst thing that can happen it i brick my phone? can i do a hard reset and will it default to the stock AT&T ROM if ever?

odin is as easy as it gets, its made for samsung phones.
safe is to do nothing if ur happy as is.
NEVER EVER USE THE "PIT" OPTION UNLESS DIRECTIONS SAY SO IN XDA FORUM ONLY
read/watch vids on using odin
make a backup by using adb, search for this method, and a twrp nandroid
always make a backup, and never just one, and save them somewhere safe in multiple locations and clouds, hard drives die all the time

yes and no, csc controls what bloatware and which settings are setup by default dependant on carrier and country, hence why this is a universal fw and not dependant on original csc files.
if u truly have the att s7edge g935a, which is what i had, then yes.

i finally finished downloading the zip file earlier. i will flash it later after i go home from work. and one other thing i need to make sure. with this Oreo rom, the DATA connection icon will be available in the toggle screen right?
@vincom, this Oreo rom has already the DATA icon to be toggled on/off right? this is one of the reason i want to flash the att rom as well.

I did read all of it but your description was vague on the att part so I didnt know if you modified it which it sounds like its just the 935u firmware and Im not a newb n00b
@vincom, initially got an error sha256 when i started to flash it. and my phone started to boot loop after i use a different odin, the prince odin. but after some searching. i fount out i just need to use the newer patch version of odin - Odin3 v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD and now im running Oreo on my s7 edge. hopefully this can help others too.

yup i tried that one the first time. thats when it gave me the error message sha256. then i tried the prince odin that gave me the error mmc something.
The author claims performance and battery improvements but has anyone that switched over really noticed that big of a improvement?
I mean i already disabled all the carrier bloat with adhell isn't that basically the same as installing this rom? Does the universal maybe have a different kernal/different system level tweaks?
Bro , what will happen if my unlocked at&t s7edge installing this ? Is there sim will be locked again or not ? Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english...

will not change your current sim lock status, no fw exists that would change it
Thanks
Thanks a lot, this firmware works for me with the 3b patched odin on the first try.
