question about romming VS98011A - Verizon LG G2

I have a Verizon LG G2 (VS980) that I rooted (to enable tethering) when i bought it (nearly 2 years ago).
I was so pleased with the stability and performance of the phone that I have kept it on Android 4.2.2, firmware VS98011a, build JDQ39B.
But, now I would like a more updated OS.
So, can I simply install TWRP on it and apply a rom? Or, do I have to unroot it first (or do something else before installing a recovery and flashing a new rom)?
THANKS in advance!

Help me figure out what to do with my Moto X

Currently, heres my situation: Moto X, non DE, on VZW. Currently still on 4.4, although I just received the notification for 4.4.2 this afternoon.
I havent rooted yet, because mistakenly, I thought I was already on 4.4.2 since this phone is less than a week old. My mistake.
Id like to root in order to bypass the Exchange PIN requirement, as well as unbloat the phone. But, coming from an unlocked Galaxy Nexus on Verizon, I have to question if its really worth it since the bootloader is locked. i.e. can I stay up to date with AOSP based roms without an unlocked bootloader?
From my understanding, you (we... I'm in the same boat) can only flash stock based ROMs. Some, like Eclipse, are highly customized. I'm rooted and have Safestrap installed. Highly recommend you do the same.
Safestrap is an apk you install after rooting which installs a TWRP-based bootloader for Nandroid backup and flashing ROMs/files.
--Edit--
Here's some info I'd shared with another user:
Safestrap is an apk you install which loads a bootloader of sorts on your phone. When you boot up, you'd get an option to boot into a custom "recovery", even on locked phones. It's a modified version of TWRP. So, you install the app once rooted. I did it while on 4.2.2. Then you just need to find ROMs which devs have created specifically for Safestrap and flash that via recovery. Make sure to create a Nandroid backup (via recovery of course) before messing around with anything. There are two that I know of (both currently based on 4.4, but both devs plan to release 4.4.2 versions soon).
Stock ROM flashable via Safestrap here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/108826-romsafestrapxt1060-stock-rooted-vzw-140455-kitkat/
Eclipse custom ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/rom-eclipse-moto-x-blur-based-v2-2-t2521509
You can download the Safestrap 3.65 apk (which should work fine on rooted 4.4, but again.. I installed it while on 4.2.2) here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/104161-recovery-locked-safestrap-recovery-v365-2013-11-13/

Which root method did you use?
SlapMyMoto, but you can easily downgrade to the camera update version of 4.2.2 (the Moto X Toolkit makes it ridiculously easy), root it, install Safestrap, and go from there.

"Unbloat" is bit of a misnomer here, I think. It comes with a few VZW apps which can be disabled. Deleting them will not speed up your phone more than disabling them will.
Also, if your sole reason to root is to disable the single security precaution that your company asks of you in order to protect their data and intellectual property, well, as an IT employee myself, I'd suggest against it. You might even open yourself up to legal action if their data or networks were compromised due to you bypassing their security protocols. If you can't deal with the PIN lock, I'd recommend just removing the exchange account entirely - use the web interface if it's available.
Just my $0.02. There are lots of great reasons to root your phone. Just not sure the two you listed are among them.

Safe to root and flash Cyanogen after 4.4.2?

Hey everyone,
I know that a lot of methods for rooting and installing a bootloader are specific to a certain stock rom for phones. As such, this worried me, since I recently updated my Verizon LG G2 to 4.4.2. I want to root and install cyanogenmod, but I am worried that using existing methods will brick my phone. Are these fears warranted? Is there a recommended way to do this?
Thanks for any input

Rooting the OTA is easy, installing a recovery requires downgrading some stuff. The easiest thing to do is root again via ioroot25 then use AutoRec to install TWRP, it does all the things needed so a recovery can be flashed automatically.

As long as you take your time, read carefully and don't rush you'll be fine. Here's the thread to root and recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713954
CM for VS980 (verizon) isn't based on 4.4 source yet, it's based on 4.2 so you can't flash it anyway unless you want to downgrade. It runs like crap and you'll find no support in the thread from the developers. I would go with Mahdi if you want CM like AOSP with a grip of customization and loads of support. That's what I'm on and it's pretty badass. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590700 There's the thread for Mahdi.
LG G2 ftw

A few questions with Odin

So I recently purchased the AT&T S6 Edge and it's my first Samsung phone. I have previously used Motorola devices ranging from the OG Droid, the Bionic and both 1st and 2nd gen Moto X. I've also rooted, installed custom roms and such on these devices. I am considering rooting my S6 Edge however there are a few things I am curious about before I do so.
From what I've read so far I can currently use FlashFire to install custom rom's but it doesn't replace the kernel as the bootloader is locked. I also understand I'd have to use ODIN to get back to stock if I want to get back on the update track.
If I root the device and install say a 5.1.1 rom (when one is eventually created) will I be able to flash either kernel or modem updates through ODIN? or will I have to stick with the current kernel and modem? Would this work but trip Knox? Does installing a rom via flashfire trip Knox?
When the 5.1.1 ODIN image is released for my phone, would wiping the device and installing it via ODIN have any advantages to say installing the update and doing a factory reset?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Noob question

1st the phone is a Verizon lg g2
Android 5.0.2
software version vs98039A
2nd the phone used to be my primary, but I've been using an s3 that was given to me for free.
3rd, I finally decided to root and flash recovery (worked exceptionally well and quick too)
I don't think there's a way to unlock boot loader, but I miss having the ability to have better on it for speed stability and battery life which I've always gotten from aokp rooms, but since my s3 has a locked boot loaded and the g2 does too is it still possible to flash either pacman, paranoid android or an aokp from since I'm on stock lollipop?

Stock / Rooted?

I may get an LG G4 and have a couple of quick questions.
Can I just run the phone as stock/rooted? What's the latest official Android version? What's the current easiest root method? If I get a new phone that I want to run stock/rooted, do I just accept all updates and then root when I get to the latest version? Any systemless root option?
With root, can I still take OTAs and then (hopefully) re-root after or once the update installs or will the rooted phone not take OTAs and then I'm forever on the path of having to manually flash updates?
Yes you can run the phone stock rooted and still take updates. But if you do take any updates you take a chance at either losing root or bricking your phone (Someone with more experience would have to answer that but thats my guess) The current version is 5.1 (6.0 for international and sprint). So far this is the easiest root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3191038 (only for h811 with 10n base) after you do this root method be sure to download twrp and install it with flashify. If you're running 10h base use one click twrp. So far there is no systemless root for 5.1 (only for 6.0) that's about all i got for you.
I saw where the thread to return to "stock" was removed due to a brick issue.
I have the T-Mo G4, running H81110n, and I'd like to un-root it so that I can trade it in back to T-Mo for something new. What's the easiest way to do that, without triggering alarms? The G4 is still new enough that trading it in is worth it, rather than just tossing it in a drawer with all my other old phones.
I used the "low effort" root from jcase/autoprime/tylerfixer back in July. Other than flashing the upgrade to H1110n, I haven't done anything crazy with it.
Thanks!
