hello everyone....after days of trying and searching I've decided to make a thread to see if I can get some help... I'm trying to root my phone to enable tethering, but I first need to unlock the bit loader. However, although I do have a laptop, I only have internet access on my phone. Is there a way I can unlock boot loader and root my phone without having internet access on another device? I've viewed several threads but I'm not very savvy when it comes to rooting and they all use terms I'm not familiar with...any help is appreciated.

If you stopped and thought about what you are trying to do you could just download the stuff you need onto your phone and then connect the laptop and transfer the stuff over you would not need internet on the laptop just yet...
Or you know, McDonald's has free WiFi haha.
Yes those are both options, the problem is all the tutorials that are on here are using terms um unfamiliar with... I'll continue to research tho

Well what is it that you're unfamiliar with? Everyone has to learn somehow and since you're actually trying to help yourself I'm willing to help you I just don't care to help people who won't even try to help themselves, but what are you trying to do?
I'm kind of in the same boat I've rooted a couple other phones but my HTC seems to be way over my head. Really it's the unlocking of the boot loader that gets me. I have WiFi and pc and little knowledge but is there an easier way to root my 510
Newbie90, same boat as you with the 510 but I can't definitely give u a heads up on what to do for your current predicament.
1- go to htcdev website (google is your friend), get yourself an account and validate it... you'll have to get the drivers for sure...
2- download fastboot (i'm sure you can figure this one out too, you can also get it from htc dev), if you're doing this on your phone, make sure you copy it to your pc (says desktop\fastboot)
since you're going to be needing to be in download mode, you will lose internet connectivity obviously, so might be a good idea to head on out to mc d's so your laptop has access to the htc dev site to get your bootloader unlock (access to email as well)
3- put yourself in download mode (from powered off state, press and hold power and volume down)
4- open your desktop\fastboot folder, click the file menu and open an administrator prompt here
5- type fastboot.exe oem get_identifier_token
6- you'll have to copy/paste some text into the htv dev site
7- you'll get an email with a unlock_code.bin that you'll have to download to the fastboot folder and the contiuation of the instructions
8- flash the bootloader unlock, i don't remember the command but it's in the instructions
an auto restart and that's it
once you're bootloader unlocked you can root/flash ROM etc... but now where i'm stuck with this handset is getting it carrier unlocked!

Hi guys, I am having an issue i cant seem to resolve on my razr i. apologies if this has already been covered in another thread (or 10, which is usually the way with these things because nobody reads the other threads) I have been through a load of other threads but cannot seem to resolve my issue so i started my own.
Right, I have switched from iphone to razr and am not stupid when it comes to jailbreaking etc so thought rooting the razr wouldnt be a problem. when trying to root it it failed and i am stuck at the fastboot menu, however, everything on the menu is disabled so i cant use it. i get the usual message:
fastboot reason: flash failure
fastboot max download size: 100mb
usb connected
if i try to use anything on the menu i get the following message:
fastboot menu disabled.
my phone is not unlocked and not rooted. i have barely done anything to it other than install a couple of free apps. i am unable to progress past this screen. the phone is GB and is on 4.0.4
any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. again, apologies if this has already been covered, none of the solutions i found were able to resolve my issue. as i said, i had no problems jailbreaking my old iphone, i am a bit of a n00b when it comes to droids...

Had the same problem, I used the recommendation in this thread, 5th post and it worked, but afterwards need to re-download apps from PlayStore:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36612151
Follow the instructions exactly - you need the drivers and RSD lite on Windows PC, then connect the phone via usb cable that came with it; and you'll need a full unzip program (cost) so you can move the unzipped files into RSD lite. Get the right flash file though - there's a list in the linked post if you don't want GB retail which I used. Important: this only works for ICS 4.0.4 and don't try to downgrade to an earlier version than what's currently on your phone e.g. v.39 to v.31, for example.
Good luck.
AW: [Q] razr i problems - fastboot menu
If the solution from mervluk does not work (It didn't work for me either) , you should try if you are able to use the fast boot commands .
To do that simply connect your phone to the PC. Then download fast boot , if you do not already have that. It is in the .zip from the RAZR I root thread.
The go to the downloaded folder. There hold shift and perform a right mouse click. Then choose" start a command prompt here "or something similar (don't know how the option is called in English).
Then type in
fastboot reboot
When the phone reboots you might be able to unlock your phone and flash the software.
BUT BE AWARE! YOU WILL LOSE YOUR WARRANTY!!
So you better try the other solution first. This should be your last option.
If you don't know how to unlock the bootloader look in the RAZR I forum or pn me .

Glad about that. This phone can be a bit of a so-and-so. ics is being updated ota to Jelly Bean 4.1.2, which I've avoided so far to keep fm (although not activated on the supplied software). I did succeed with unlocking the bootloader (loose warranty - important) following the whole complicated procedure on Moto's website - but couldn't myself use the shortcuts on here. (Then had to set up again and re-download everything from the PlayStore). It required the Moto-supplied key. I then rooted, though I think the JB ota download unroots again? You can't use RSD lite with JB.
With JB the procedures are different, and a modified JB European (not for use with GB) firmware is now available on another thread which is impressing some posters. But I think just be a bit cautious as there does not appear to be any fix for the "service code corrupt" bootloader error yet. Looks like the options are very restricted whilst no-one understand the interaction between Google Android and the intel atom chipset.
I have a network unlock key from one of the commercial suppliers (cellunlocker.net), but haven't needed to try and use it yet!
I recently purchased a HTC One and it's T-Mobile branded, so I wanna Root my phone to get updates faster and be able to run apps with Airplay and stuff.
The problem I (and many other Mavericks users) have is with the Android File Transfer software.
I can install and rut it, but it won't recognize my HTC One. It keeps giving the same message about how I need
to connect my HTC One.
There are workarounds to acces the files (like connecting via WiFi through an IP-address or use the HTC software), but I think it's not possible to root the phone without direct acces to the files as with AFT, or is it?
I wanna make sure I can run the script before I brick my phone.
Can any of you guys confirm I can run the script without AFT?

I can help u bootloader unlock and root the phone
Follow these instructions to set up fastboot and adb
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237
go to
htcdev.com
create an account and choose bootloader unlock option. Choose All other Supported Devices in the dropdown list
follow the instructions to successfully bootloader unlock ur device. This will delete ur data, so make a backup
Once ur successfully bootloader unlocked, quote me and post it. Ill tell u how to continue
Getting the android file transfer program to run and getting the adb/fastboot/androidSDK set up are different issues.
By far, the latter is more important. You simply can't root without it. If adb is working you can use the commands adb push or adb pull to move files on and off the device.
If you really feel like you need the android file transfer app, read http://trjlive.com/2013/10/guide-android-file-transfer-mac-osx-mavericks/ for an explanation of the problem and a possible workaround.

For starters, you need the fastboot executable for Windows to unlock the device, not ADB. The minimal ADB version, also applies to fastboot, is 1.0.31. Secondly, you must enable fastboot mode on the device beforehand. Thirdly, unless LG has changed things in the last month or so, the bootloader on the LG-D415 is unlocked.
To enable fastboot mode, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/general/guide-fastboot-l90-d415-t2827825
To unlock the bootloader, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/general/guide-unlock-bootloader-t-mobile-l90-t2836457. Shouldn't be necessary tho . Won't hurt anything to go thru the process however.
Thank you, i have fastboot and adb (fixed a bricked kindle last week!!) I wasnt sure about the bootloader and iwasnt gunna be without a recovery like i was with my lg lucud!!!
And excuse my unintelligible post above. New size screen?

No. You need fastboot to unlock the device an install a custom recovery. After that, almost everything can be done on the device
Well i tried to unlock the bott loader and it wouldent let me i tried to open the command prompt and it wouldent open
Please, precisely follow the instructions given at https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a. You should at least know how to download the required software and use the command prompt. Be aware that rooting your phone and performing root actions may damage your phone beyond your capabilities to repair it.
it wont let me open the commad promt
Well. I can think of two possibilities here. The first one is: you are sitting in front of a computer that has restricted access and probably doesn't belong to you. Or, (and don't get me wrong, we all started at some point) you lack the knowledge to perform these actions.
So, go ahead an make your computer obay you. Smash the OS till you have to reinstall it. Do it again. And again. Install Linux. Be annoyed. Install MS. Be more annoyed. Solve all the computer problems of your friends and family till you wish you never acquired these skills. Then, dear sir, you know how to root your phone yourself.

Because I know you guys hate posts saying thanks - OP could always try TowelRoot (disclaimer: no idea if its been patched for Moto G, don't really care, plus I wouldn't recommend root at all - for the time being at least - if the command prompt eludes you...)

Currently, and possibly in future too, there's no way of unlocking Moto devices without approval from Motorola.
P.s. Maybe a typo? The number is quite long. Try copy'n'paste.
Hey guys n girls,
I'm going to root my phone. First off the why? I recently discovered PlayStation remote play and use it on my computer. I was excited to use it on my phone but then found out only Sony phones work I guess... So I heard I need to use adb and something else I believe. Can someone help me? Once again main reason PlayStation remote play

Thanks. Any chance you can attach links for downloads for PC and also files. If u can add tutorials I can follow those too. I have rooted couple times before but if I do the moto that's my actual phone and I don't want to mess it up. Will it mess with my plan or screw me over in any way? I've only done phones I don't use.
