Sears has a SWEET DEAL on preorder right now 105.00 back and FREE Tab S Book cover ? thinking if I should wait around on the 32GB Version though ?

Yeah I noticed that, hmmmm.
It's tempting even though I have a Note 10.14 already... :victory:
This is such a great tablet I can't imagine this new one, with that screen and size specs.

I think this is the first post in this forum.
Definitely would like at least 32 GB. Leaning more towards the 8.4". We have a 10" tablet, and it is just too big to use one handed. And by use, I mean hold.
The weight of both tablet is relatively low. The AMOLED screen makes for a thin tablet. The ahead-of-its-time GT-P6800 7.7 tablet is amazingly thin and solid. It's still a good tablet for media playing and web surfing.
I just pre ordered the 10.5 32gb version from Best buy, I wonder how they pulled the exclusive with the 32gb. I'm in the process of putting some sample files on a flash drive to test on one of the display models. Best buy also has the bronze and white book covers for 39.99 rather than 69.99. Glad I decided to wait for the release and didn't open my Note Pro, it's already on it's way back to Samsung.
Edit: So I went and tested two video files at the local Best Buy, Pacific Rim 1080p 12gb mkv high encoding 19 quality and Timescapes mp4 2560x1440. The picture on this tablet is amazing especially the nature scenes in the Timescapes file. The stock player was able to player both files with no skips or jitters.
I pre ordered the 8.4 from Future Shop (Canada). I am keeping my Note Pro 12.2 as my home unit, the 8.4 as my traveler (Read in bed) and Nexus 5 as my phone. I have no problems with a 16 gig unit. I used the savings and bought a 64 gig microsd. After being burned by Samsung in the past ie.. software updates and coming from a Nexus background I was hesitant to purchase the 12.2 but I have to admit that it has been a nice experience. The first tablet I haven't bothered to root. I think the 8.4 will be even better. Of course I will be keeping my eyes on this year's Google IO conference just in case they mythical Google 8 is announced. I just need to find a case and glass screen protector.
I am really tempted by this new tab
Especially since I sold my Nexus 7 2013 FHD, I really would like to replace that with the new 8.4 Tab S. I miss reading books and browsing the web on my couch or bed. I don't really care for the aesthetics mainly due to the placement of the buttons, it's just weird having the phone layout of buttons on a huge tablet, I prefer to have them on the sides of the device. Not a deal breaker though. I'm just torn on whether to buy this 8.4 through amazon as I have a gift card there for 300 bucks or save a little more and wait for the new Nexus 8 or Nexus 10 if they ever announce them. I have a galaxy note 3 and being a phablet I thought it would be sufficient enough in size to not miss my nexus 7 but I was wrong. The one thing I hate about Samsung is the bloatware and difficulty in rooting the device due to knox and voiding the warranty. I'd prefer to wait for a tablet using either the tegra 4 K1(32 bit) chip or the tegra k1 (64 bit) chip because the games on it would be fabulous, but like I said I am just itching to replace my tablet I dearly miss and this samsung galaxy tab S looks very promising...Woe me
for some reason the smartwatches here in bahrain and saudi are more expensive than in the US but the phones and phablets are cheaper, wonder which range this tab s prices will be here
I preordered this online on bestbuy (in canada) because when I went to do it in stores their system didn't let them help me. is this normal? anyway if you preorder from bestbuy canada they give you the folio case for free as well I believe and theres a lexar 64gb thats on sale for 70 bucks off until the 19th...
Noticed BestBuy, Futureshop, Staples in Canada all bumped their dates back to July 4th right away. Was saying June 26 for the first day or two. Amazon still says June 26.
I wonder if it will get bumped again. I've had horrible experience ordering online from bestbuy and futureshop. I'd try staples next if they had the free cover offer too.
I ordered the 10.5 white from Samsung store for $499, including Samsung's book cover case worth $69.99 as a gift... They promised 1 July delivery.

What color folio case did you select?
On both bestbuy.ca and futureshop.ca, only 3 colors (brown, blue, and white) are available for free.
When I add the charcoal black one to my cart, it shows up as full price.
I was going to go into the store to ask for the black one, but your posts makes it sound like they won't be able to do much.

I started my tablet buying addiction with Chinese tablets - lol. I have owned a number of Chinese tablets , TV sticks and TV boxes. My advice is to save yourself a lot of grief and buy a name brand tablet from a recognized retailer. There are a number of issues to consider. 1) The RK3288 looks like a good chip but Rockchip is notorious for producing buggy versions of Android. I know I currently own two Rockchip devices and if it wasn't for a dedicated user base debugging and producing custom ROM's, the devices would be useless. 2) If your tablet has a hardware defect you would have to ship it all the way back to China - usually at your own expense. It could take months to get it sorted out. 3) Chinese manufacturers tend not to support devices once they are originally released and since these Chinese tablets don't usually appear on XDA you are left on your own. 4) Many Chinese Companies quickly disappear for no notice. 5) You'll be kicking yourself for not spending that extra money for that great Tab S display.
If you do by Chinese then Geekbuying is a reliable place. They have always been good to me.
Hope this help,
D

I just bought a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. It's really nice and I actually like the S-Pen more than I thought I would... however, I'm thinking of returning it to get a Tab S instead.
From what I see, the specs are really close between the two tablets. Main differences appear to be the AMOLED screen and slightly thinner/lighter Tab S ... but then I lose the S-Pen. Both AMOLED and scLCD screens seem to perform nicely, so that's a matter of preference I guess. I have a Galaxy S5 and the scLCD on the Note side-by-side to my S5 AMOLED screen looks pretty close.
Thoughts? Do you think the Tab S will be that much better than something like the Note 2014?
Thanks
[Update] Samsung Galaxy Note Edge officially heads to US November 14th
Still a Note 3 owner myself, just wondering about the perspective on this device from those who already have it's more popular brother in their hands. Whatcha'll think?
I do plan on upgrading, but am not in a huge rush (well, actually I stopped by the T mo store yesterday to take care of some other business, and asked a really cool guy whose helped me out a lot if they had N4's in stock. He said they did have a few black ones, and I left kind of pissed that I wasn't taking one home, but then saw that @dwitherell had just posted an update for Tweaked! Whew, being a "cellular communications and computing device enthusiast" can be quite the emotional roller coaster!)
If the Note Edge ends up not being as much of a niche device as is expected, and has a decent accessory selection, and most importantly solid development, I 'd definitely consider grabbing one. I can think of several pretty killer uses for that sidebar (assuming that there's a way to completely customize it. Additionally, I wonder if it's only "compatible" with the TW launcher?... I wonder if it would lose functionality with Nova for ex.?
Well, there are a few thoughts from someone who hasn't yet upgraded; I'd be extremely interested to hear some from those who have
It won't be a hit simply because it is set up to fail. Samsung already said they were not shipping or building many units. Development here is usually dependent on the popularity of the device. Since there won't be many out there it will fail.
I skipped on the Note Edge due to built in battery. I ended up getting Note 4

Those bastards at Samsung and all the electronic press made me believe that the Edge will be a very limited production. Now looking at the press releases I see that it will have a full and proper release like the note 4. The only reason I didn't get the edge was because I thought I wouldn't be able to get it on contract. Now i am stuck with a Note 4, when all I really wanted from day 1 was the Note Edge. So extremely frustrated and upset right now.
Actually, we have note edge personal thread so it won't mixed up with the note 4

Well. They better not drop the microsd and relovable battery or else the sales will drop anyways!
Samsung is believed to be bringing the launch date of the Galaxy Note 5 forward by a few weeks in order to beat Apple to the punch. The Wall Street Journal believes that the Korean company will announce its phablet gigantophone in August and get it into stores ahead of the iPhone 6S. It's a break from tradition, since Samsung normally refreshes the Note line at IFA in the first week of September. Last year, however, the iPhone 6 arrived around the same time and, presumably, stole enough thunder to prompt the change.
The move would give the company something to shout about after seeing its smartphone sales slip between April and June. It's believed that Samsung misread demand for the Galaxy S6 Edge which was significantly more popular than it had anticipated. By bringing the launch of the Galaxy Note 5 forward by a few weeks, the device could be in stores by September and/or encourage fair-weather users to wait a few more days when it comes to upgrade time.

Yeah 6 inch plus screens are the way to a universal sales surge. Why people fought each other to buy the z ultra and the nexus 6.
Going by Samsung’s usual launch schedule, the Galaxy Note 5 would be less than two months away from getting an official announcement at this point of time. Going by recent rumors, however, the time before the Note 5 is unveiled would be even shorter. Well, it looks like the latter is what we will have to believe in, as our insiders have revealed today the the Galaxy Note 5 will be announced on August 12, and go on sale around two weeks later on August 21.
We have also learned that the Galaxy S6 edge Plus will be launched as the Galaxy S6 edge+, and will be announced alongside the Note 5 on the same date. Samsung’s plan to launch two big handsets at the same time (and risking one device eating into the sales of the other) was leaked by a report out of the Korean press a few hours ago, and we can confirm that it is indeed what the company intends to do. The two devices will also be accompanied by the official launch of Samsung Pay, at least for the US market.
Now, let’s move on to a few details of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+. First, Samsung’s next phablet flagship. Let’s get one of the most important aspects of the phone out of the way: The Note 5 will not have a microSD slot, something we had guessed would be the case earlier this month. In terms of design, the phone will basically be a blown-up version of the Galaxy S6. But like the Galaxy A8, the Note 5 will have extremely thin screen bezel, a design change that might come in handy in terms of ergonomics keeping in consideration the new metal and glass design that the Note 5 is expected to feature.
The S Pen will also be seeing a few design changes. According to the information we’ve received, the stylus will look more like a pen this time around (and apparently feel like one, too) and will have the same color as the color of the device. Speaking of colors, the Galaxy Note 5 will be offered in silver, gold, black and white options; these are the same options we’ve seen on the Note 4, though the glass construction on the Note 5 is sure to make these same-old colors look considerably better.
When it comes to the Galaxy S6 edge+, there’s really not much to tell. The device will be a phablet version of the Galaxy S6 edge, with a curve on either side of the screen and the same color options as the Note 5. We can, however, confirm that the S6 edge+ will be powered by the Exynos 7420 instead of a Snapdragon 808, and have 3GB of RAM. Oh, and as we said yesterday, the Note 5 will certainly become the first Samsung phone to feature 4GB of RAM. We’re guessing storage options would be the same as the Galaxy S6 lineup, though it would be great if Samsung would make the 64GB variant the base model to make up for the lack of expandable storage.
Provided all the information we have been given turns out to be correct, Samsung’s next UNPACKED event could be one of its biggest yet, if only because of the number of things it will announce on a single day. The August launch seems too early to be true, but with numerous rumors pointing at Samsung moving faster with the Galaxy Note 5, it certainly looks like we will be hearing everything from the horse’s mouth in under a month from now.

After the mess that was the Note 4 release I don't believe anything until I have a device in my hand.
Me and my N4 will be here if you need us lol.
To be honest why would anyone with an Exynos Note 4 update; the SoC is only slightly improved as is the nand and ram, but the screen is pretty much the same and no microsd support nor swappable batteries? Being released in August also means no Android M at launch, which means you'll be waiting until Jan/Feb for the update. Guessing it'll have the same cameras as the S6 which is pretty much on par with the Note 4's.
***In case this is true***
Now we know the reason our Note 4 is the worst flagship in the updates department. They were planning for a faster Note 5 release to beat Apple. and not respect the 1 year release they had til now. Not cool Samsung.
Well if it's true about it being a blown up version of S6 then not going to get it... No sdcard and non removable battery, I think it's a terrible choice

Samsung's problem is that they have 100000000 different devices to support and different variants of those devices for different regions. No wonder they don't have the time to update all of their phones at once.
Normally I buy a new phone every year but this might be the first time I'll stay on the Note 4 for a year longer. At the moment I don't feel like re-doing all the work we did on CM12.1 Note 4 Snapdragon, for the Note 5 again. Slayher has serious health issue's, so he won't be able to work on it neither. And RaymanFX has just reached the early alpha/beta stages of getting CM running on the 910C Exynos variant, so I'd also doubt he'll jump onto the Note 5.
So the Note 5 might not get a lot dev support and will most likely not feature AOSP for a long time and therefore not something I'd personally be interested in, let alone buy.
Another spam thread. Don't listen to hear say because that only leads to disappointment! Wait for the official announcement from Samsung.

Agree wholeheartedly (if the rumours of features (or lack of) are anything to go by). Its a fat S6. That's it.
I see this as the end of the road for me and Samsung. In so many more ways - I won't buy their next tablet and find no need to buy their TV's which I do now because they integrate well with my phone and tablet. Game over.
All the benefits of the note series have been removed (SD slot, removable battery). I wonder also how easy the back is to shatter. Anyone chucked an s6 on the pavement yet!?
I don't care about larger faster phone memory. I don't care about wireless charging - we don't all carry charger around or have access to power sockets while out and about.
POOR decision Samsung - just because you are an Apple wannabe. In the past you did things differently - and that's what we liked about the note! You have missed a trick and no doubt your ability to remain a key player in the phone market / recover damaging lack of profit as you become more like apple in design everyday.
I've actually seen very few positive posts about the note 5. As opposed to when the N4 was in rumourville - excitement reigned. What a fail.

The Note line has always been a bigger and S-Pen'd version of the S series though. The Note 2 was a big S3 and the Note 3 a big S4 etc. So this hasn't stopped massive sales of the Note series. I do agree that it would be nice to have something different however, but Samsung (and other OEMs) make business decisions that sometimes don't seem right to consumers.

Note 5 will have RAW camera support - it is huge difference between Note 4 and 5.
Battery 4100 vs 3200 is enormous improvement - it is not "non removable". Every battery can be replaced but it will take more to do. You will not do this in train.
Lack of SD card is not an issue IMHO.

Here's a new flash for you. Was the previous Note's not a model after the S line at the time? This is nothing new.
What iPhone and iPad will you be switching to? With your change, you can now get the new 99.5" Apple Liquid Cooled LED and it comes with 3D contacts for free.
The benefits of having a removable SD slot and battery are very subjective:
The ability to add more storage and to swap out the battery is great, however, you can also accomplish this with a battery bank and Cloud storage. Obviously the swap is more convenient, but at the end of the day you obtain the same results. The fact here is that most users don't swap out batteries left and right and the same goes for SD Cards. Solution = Back up your phone, keep it organized, use a Cloud, keep only what you really need and eliminate dead weight files just sitting on your phone, and use a battery bank. There are a lot to choose from.
Any phone that is dropped will take a beating. There's no way around it unless you obviously have a nice case on it that can take an impact to protect the phone. Basing a buying decision on whether a phone will hold up from a drop is a little far fetched. Any phone will incur some damage. Solution = Insurance, which with TM JUMP it's all included. Well and of course use a good case.
If you don't care about a faster phone with more memory, than just stick with the Note 4. What's the problem?
The decision on Samsung's part is based on the majority. Welcome to the real world. That's just how it works. Samsung will always be a key player in the phone market, whether you like it or not. They are a huge multi-billion dollar conglomerate with many different divisions other than mobile phones.
Apple wannabe? Hmmm...Samsung creates the phablet culture and years later Apple comes out with the iPhone 6 Plus and....this makes Samsung a wannabe? I don't think so.... mind you Samsung and LG (both S.Korean giants) provide numerous parts for Apple products. iPhone's IPS Screen is LG, internal motherboard and varies chip-sets are by Samsung, battery cell is Samsung and more.... Some variants were slightly different where some variants had IPS's by Sharp, which Samsung owns a part of Sharp. So before you go blabbering about calling a Tech Giant a wannabe, I'd think twice about it.... but of course you're just speaking out of emotions right?
Here's some food for thought to help you understand further Samsung's decision:
Most people don't need more than 64GB of storage.
Most people don't swap out batteries twice a day.
Most people have several charging options available to them at any given time. Home, Work, Car, Battery Bank, etc...
So being that these are true for the vast majority, it is very logical for Samsung to have made the decision to change up the design language in going with a uni-body frame, that bring about many benefits.
Lets look at the positive:
The Note 5 has...
Way bigger battery (4100mAh) from the Note 4.
Bigger storage option. 128GB
Faster and better CPU.
More RAM.
Better screen. (tba)
Flat front glass, which is a dream come true for glass-screen protector users. (No more 2.5D madness. Finally an edge to edge coverage.)
Uni Body frame...stronger, sturdier, lighter, and just overall a better platform to be able to pack the punch.
Not everyone has the same needs.
Finally the ultimate solution. For all the whiners. SOLUTION = STAY WITH YOUR NOTE 4!
SIMPLE...Everyone's happy.

Well said. It's funny how so many people find it such a surprise that the Note 5 models after the S6, like it's some big surprise.

SD card slot is not a benefit in today's world with Unlimited Cloud storage. If you really need more than 128GB of storage then use a cloud. Simple.
Removable battery? Who cares! Like 4100mAh isn't enough. That's what chargers are for...ever heard of battery banks?
It cracks me up to see people like you crying over petty stuff and completely over looking the benefits of the new releases...
Note 5:
Better built aluminum uni-body phone.
Better Screen.
Bigger internal SD storage. Upto 128GB
Bigger battery. 4100mAh
Faster CPU.
More RAM.
Best of all, a smooth front screen for all the Glass screen protector fans out there. Finally...edge to edge coverage.
Not everyone has the same needs, but you act like the pattern of the note series all of a sudden has changed? Of course the Note 5 will model after the S6. As it was for the Note 4....so what's the fuss?
Good luck with your make over lol... cracks me up...

What an obnoxious post. Who's crying?? Simply feeding back my dis-satisfaction with the change of direction made. This is an open forum and I don't see any rules suggesting myself and many others can't do this.:silly:
If you want a phone that looks like an S6 or ip6, why buy the Note???! - which has always been targeted at high users that do want the flexibility it provides.
It now becomes an S6 plus or an overpriced Oneplus with a stylus..
I'll wait and see, I guess.
MicroSD card and replaceable battery are critical to my use (I swap batteries at least once a day), and I'd really like if the western versions of the Note5 had Dual SIM support.
The Notes are work tools, not fashion accessories, and I use them as such.
CMON SAMSUNG I HAVENT EVEN RECEIVED MY 512 GB VERSION YET. Looks like I will have to find a way to get my hands on a silver one

Only just got mine today. Finally
Sent from my ONEPLUS 5
Agreed that the color doesn't really matter as the phone is virtually impossible to use without a case. That said, I bet a silver S-Pen would look great with an Ocean Blue Note 9. If you want an OEM silver look, Samsung's Rugged Protective Cover in Silver or dark metallic gray looks great.
Only color I miss is white., Failing that black always wins.

Im also still waiting on my 512GB unlocked blue from Samsung Direct. Problem with this silver version is we don't know if there will be a 512GB version or if it will be a carrier exclusive..
If they launched this color August 24th, IT would be backordered and not my beautiful blue model that I've yet to receive...
Still waiting on my 512gb also week of Sept 30, ship date ordered Aug 15,ridiculous Samsung what the use of a preorder(lol) get the phone over a month after release, awsome
Damnit, Samsung! Why can't you bring out all of the color options at launch!?

Very good question........
This is one area Samsung would do well to mimic their main competitor, seems to have served 'em well & will no doubt sell a boatload or two of their latest offerings.
Samsung sales have gradually slipped the past 3 years, the trickle release of color variants, scattered availability of such dependent upon region,is nonsensical & is helping no one..
I'm diggin' my Note 9,but,offering all color options at launch,TO ALL MARKETS, would be a nice start in what will likely be a refresh for next year's models.........

I like my Note 9 Blue as well, but I would have preferred silver or an emerald green. I think it was the S6 or S7 that got a green over in Korea, but that was it. Irked me off a lot.
