Hi, when I plug the phone in Flashmode, im getting this message on Flashtool: ERROR - Can't read a byte value. im flashing 30.2.A.0.100 FTF on Xperia M5 E5606

Same with Xperia Z5 compact
Hello guys,
I had the same Issue ("Can't read byte value") on Windows 8 when trying to flash 32.2.A.0.305 (Android 6.0.1) onto my Xperia Z5 compact.
First I moved the *.ftf files out of my .flashTool/firmwares folder. Then it was enough to remove the .flashTool folder from within my User's profile folder. Then I started up FlashTool again, the .flashTool folders etc. were re-established. Closed FlashTool, moved the *.ftf files back to .flashTool/firmwares, started up FlashTool again, everything went just fine from then on.
Maybe this helps someone else, too.

First make sure no other program is using adb. Then reinstall all the flashtool drivers. Connect your phone and try. This is a common error for me, and a simple restart always fixes it for me

Worked for me !

Check file and storage
Maybe your ftf been corrupted or your drive C: is full. Try to download the ftf file again and must be same with your type model.

it's really strange, for some reason, if i try to turn on my xperia, the green led turn on, and turn off really fast, and then the screen turn on, and then turn off... if i try to do it again, nothing happend. but if i take out the battery, and put it again i cant restart the same process... knowing that, i trie to take out the battery, put it on, and flash from there... but the first time it failed:
18/027/2013 00:27:06 - ERROR -
18/027/2013 00:27:06 - ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted
but in that moment, the green led still's on, i hope that if (i think that the green leds say's that the xperia is somekind of "directly" connected to the pc ) i trie to flash again, and it works !!!
i'm really happy...
something more...
somebody could think that i spend 1 hour trying to fix this, well.. i really spend all the day ): now i will try to put ginger again !

Xperia x8 totaly dead
Hi all,
I need help in regard with Xperia x8. I tried to flash it using the latest Flashtool 0.9.13.0, in the flashtool window I had the only option x10 V1 BLRelock. I went ahead following the steps, everything seemed ok, asked to disconnect the cable and the phone not responding al all.
Lately I realised that I did not load the correct firmware/option....
I followed this tutorial but is not working for me. The phone is totally dead.
Any other option left, before throwing it?
Any help is welcome.

Thank you for replay.
The problem is I can not power it at all, no life of it whatsoever, is totally dead, is not charging neither.
I went the a shop that deals with mobile phone stuff and they can not do anything, said that can not connect to the pc, it might be the power connector faulty, but no, is not faulty for sure. I do not think the flash tool damaged the connector socket.
It worked perfectly prior the problem.
I only did what I already stated in my previous post. I do not think there is a way to recover it.
I have to decide what I am going to do with it. I found for €20 a X8 in good working order , just the case is bad. The one I have is spotless except it stopped working. I am thinking to get it and change the board....
I will see now.

Well, Sony? Will charge me a lot to fix it. I do not see how they will fix it, maybe to change the board or have other ways to do it.
I will give them a call to see how much will charge me.
I think it will be more than €20 the price for used one and swap the board.

Unable to root, please help! [Solved]

Hi all. I'm quite desperate about rooting my device as I couldn't get it working in two days.
My firmware version is 12.0.A.2.254.
I followed this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440375
On Windows 8.1, Flashtool does not detect the device in Flash mode. The notification light goes green, but nothing happens with Flashtool.
On Windows 8, the result was just like above.
Later I read about driver signature enforcement in Windows 8 and I admit that it was not enabled, so maybe that was the problem.
On Windows XP, Flashtool says the following:
03/005/2014 01:05:24 - INFO - Processing loader.sin
03/005/2014 01:05:24 - INFO - Checking header
03/005/2014 01:05:24 - INFO - Ending flash session

03/005/2014 01:05:25 - ERROR - You can find them in the drivers folder of Flashtool.

PC Companion and the drivers that came with Flashtool were installed in both cases.
Please share any thoughts - or, if you were able to root your device with the same firmware version, say how and on which OS! Thanks!

Hey,
Just read DoomLords tutorial, the whole thread, I believe there are many people with the same question and it's answered.
Are you sure you installed the flash tool drivers on the XP machine? (I would use XP or win7, not win8 for this).
Also try this:
Connect your Xperia SP via USB. (Don't forget to enable USB Debugging)
Then run the Software (http://adbdriver.com/downloads/) and choose your phone, which should be listed in the list.
Ok, I did it all over again on Windows 7 and... I'm excited to have my device rooted now.
There were two attempts, the first time Flashtool again threw an error, but at the same time Windows installed some driver itself and then everything went all right.
Thanks, Robin>Hood!

Hey zodeg, I'm experiencing the same problem right now. Could you explain this Flashboot v 18.5 thing? googled it but couldn't find anything about it though. Google only threw Flashtool 0.9.18.5 at me but I don't think that it's t he right thing. An upload of what you used there would be nice.

ftf file doesn't show in flashtool

Hello guys. Need help here.
I have D5833 and want to upgrade/root my phone. Downloaded required ftf file, installed latest flashtool on 32bit win7 laptop, and also latest java. Ofc all necessary drivers are installed and xperia companion.
Put the ftf file in /.firmwares folder but in flashtool it showed nothing. Tried another ftf but nothing. I've also tried uninstalled and reinstalled flashtool and still nothing.
I've tried searching the forum and also googling much for the answer but no solution found.
What did I miss here?
Any reply and any help is much appreciated.

Hi!
The Firmwares folder is located in the C:\Users\yourusernamehere\.flasthtool\firmwares. Have you put it there? If Yes and its still not detected, try using an older version of Flashtool ( 0.9.11 ) works well.
Good luck!
Ok, so older version of flashtool really does works. Downloaded and used 0.9.18.6.

Sony Mobile Flasher stuck on getvar:max-download-size (Flashing Xperia 10)

Hello,
I got my Xperia 10 into a bootloop. I'm still able to enter recovery, but I've never been able to get out of the bootloop, no matter what I tried.
I started trying to flash software onto it with Sony Mobile Flasher. I'm using version 0.9.28.0. Every time I try flashing, the process gets stuck on the same line:
Sending getvar:max-download-size
Does anyone know what exactly this means or how I can fix this?
Any help is greatly appreciated. :good:

The problem stopped occurring.
However, I began having problems with the missing flash script. I fixed that and was able to flash firmware from XperiFirm.
Do you have a missing script file as well or is it just me?
Update
Here's an update.
The problem with getting stuck on getvar:max-download-size only occurs if it's the second time flashing the device after initial connection (and any attempt after that I guess).
This means, connect the phone, try flashing. If for some reason you try another flash without disconnecting the phone, it will get stuck.
This has always helped me, not sure if it's a universal solution.

I see. Thanks! Just curious, that applies to all Xperia phones and all ROMs or is it different for older ones?
Also, is a flash script needed for NewFlasher. I don't think one is, but I haven't looked into NewFlasher as much as I should have.

I think it's for all Xperias after 2019! No flash script needed. You just have to have fastboot drivers and the drivers for your phone! No need to have your bootloader unlocked either.

You can use newflasher(https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/progress-newflasher-xperia-command-line-t3619426 to flash the firmware
Tried via newflasher, deleted all .ta files, even in boot folder, but i got again and again getvar:max-download-size error. Any solution, please?
Edit: Solved. Forgot to tap on usb debugging option and then allow to computer
Solutions:
1. Tap many times build number to open developer options
2. Turn on usb debugging
3. Connect phone via cable while it is turned on and press Allow when computer asks in it
4. Then try to flash android 10. Write n n n to commands, no need any gordon driver or etc
Maybe need restart phone and pc one time, when you turn on usb debugging and then Allow it
Also i installed android driver, after connect via cable, it was yellow ? <= that sign (in computer > manage > device manager)

Try closing the program and opening it again.
Make sure it's always the first flash after opening the program.
That's what solved it for me. Though honestly, this was more than a year ago , new versions of FlashTool might not have this problem anymore? I honestly don't know, haven't tried in a while.
