4.4 on my Verizon Dev X appears to give me AWS LTE... I say that because I get LTE signal when using my T-Mobile USA SIM in my X. And T-Mobile supports Band 4, not Band 13.

4.4 VZ Dev Ed gives me band 4 LTE with a TMo SIM. Have yet to try it since flashing a EU 4.4.2 file (kept my 4.4 VZ radios, so I can't imagine it would change much, but Play Store recognizes my device as XT1052 now, which I find funny).

I have nothing that will display the LTE Band. I would love to find one that does.
For me, its process of Elimination.. VZW X initially supported LTE Band 13, which T-mobile doesn't support. T-Mobile does support LTE Band 4, which is the only other VZW LTE Band. (VZW lists Band 13 and 4 on their page for the X). Since I get LTE with my T-Mobile SIM it must be LTE band 4.
If you get T-Mobile LTE in any device, it supports AWS LTE, period.
I understand the process of elimination but on my SGS3 it would give me a band number (Band 13 in my case) but my Moto X gives me no band number. Is there a way to find out what band it is actually connected to?

As far as I know, no, not on vanilla Android. I also own a Galaxy S4 and what you're talking about is integrated into TouchWiz.
The Moto X used to tell you what Band it was on...this was prior to the Kitkat update. After that, I have been unable to find an app that tells me what band it is using. If anyone else has ideas, let me know. (BTW I am not rooted.)
Can someone please confirm with a screen shot that the Developer Edition of the Moto X has band 4 LTE AWS support for VERIZON. The only reason I did not purchase a Dev Edition of the Moto X is because I contacted Moto (after scouring the Internet for specs, Dev Edition says 750 Mhz LTE ) support and they specifically told me Verizon Dev Edition doesn't support AWS Band 4 for verizon.

Well, when I put my T-Mobile SIM in, I get LTE. Since T-Mobile uses Band 4, and not Band 13, that would imply the Verizon Moto X supports Band 4 LTE.
But T-Mobile or Verizon sim installed in the phone, it never reports Band 13 or Band 4 when connected to LTE.
AWS Dev Edition.

Yeah I've seen other reports of this. I was looking for proof from someone in a big city with Verizon's AWS network enabled to show me some really fast speed on a Verizon network.

Does this help? Done the other night sitting in my living room... near Thorndale, PA... its not a big city, but its not bad.
And remember, just like with Band 13, there could be congestion on Band 4 LTE.. So don't expect speeds to always be this high... especially since AWS is 1700/2100Mhz so in building and such is not as good, and signal doesn't travel as from from the towers when compared to Band 4.
Oh, and here is a shot with my T-Mobile sim in my Verizon X. If the phone didn't support Band 4 I wouldn't get LTE on T-Mobile.
I've done speed tests on my dev x and at the same time ran a speed test on my wife's s3. I know the area has aws since my s4 showed I was connected to it. On the x I got about 70 mbps and on the s3 about 10 mbps. Aws is definitely supported on this phone.

Yes. Very small. I live about 2 miles from the Thorndale SEPTA station.. Its called Romansville, but no one has heard of it, and we use Coatesville post office but thankfully that is all of coatesville we use!!

Verizon didn't make the phone, Motorola did. If they put a different radio chip in, they'd have to pay for FCC testing/approval/certification on two devices, one of which is going to be a low sales model. Do you really think they'd offer it if they had to spend well over what they'd ever hope to make back for it?

If I was to pick up an international Note 5 (N920i) for use in the USA on AT&T, how would updates work? The theories I have is that either:
The device will never get updates
Samsung will release updates directly to the device
I will have to use custom ROMs for updates
Given that I will root the device (thus the reason for buying the international model), I'm assuming #3 will be the correct path. However, I understand I could run a modified kernel with the stock ROM to allow that, and there only seems to be one ROM outside of the carrier (AT&T/T-Mobile) threads. Could I use an AT&T carrier ROM?
I'm just trying to understand all my options if I walk down this path.

So, if I was running a custom kernel for root, I would basically revert the kernel to stock, run the OTA or via Smart Switch, and then re-root. Sounds easy enough. Any idea what the timing is like for updates on international versions as compared to the US variants?

It's hard to say which International version gets updates quicker but I am sure you would have no problems beating AT&T updates.

One other question, are you using it on AT&T in the US? The N920i says it's compatibility is:

I am on AT&T. The few times I have checked I was on bands 2, 4,and 5. I have never had a problem connecting to 4G with the 920I version.

And from another perspective, I consistently connect to AT&T LTE bands 2 and 17 using the n920c (which differs from the "i" in supporting band 20 and not 28 - neither of which involves at&t.)
The only frequency from AT&T that the 'c' and 'i' models does NOT support is band 30. At the present time, I think there are only two AT&T phones supporting that band (n920a and the at&t edge+)

Edit: just checked from another location and I am now on band 17.

Assuming the N920a is the AT&T Note 5 variant, the AT&T specifications page (https://www.att.com/cellphones/sams...sku7670223?WT.srch=1&source=ECPS0000000PSM00P) does not show band 30 support?

When have you ever known at&t to be forthcoming with information?
Here's an FCC filing for the n920A showing band 30 support (as well as all the other bands supported for use in the US):

(The n920a may supported other bands/frequencies, but the FCC filing won't show anything that isn't tested to work in the US.)

What I just found that's VERY interesting is that the n920i has FCC filings (FCC ID: A3LSMN920I) and the AT&T variant is obviously there (with FCC ID A3LSMN920A)
However, there's no sign of an FCC ID of A3LSMN920C. That would mean that my phone, the n920c, is illegal to use or sell in the USA. oops.
That makes things interesting, doesn't it?
I've been using the N920i on AT&T now for about two weeks and my speeds are excellent.
I tested LTE the other night on the speedtest app and had 50 Mbps download, fastest I've ever tested in my area (that even includes AT&T branded phones).
So no complaints here...
I concur with HNIC215. Had my phone about 4 weeks.

It relates to what I do for a living... I have a significant amount of contact with the FCC. It probably would never be noticed, but if it was, I'd be out of a job and possibly fined as well. The risk is too high when I'd be perfectly legal with the 'i' model.
Being that neither band 20 nor 28 is used in the US, the radio difference won't impact usage for me.

Makes sense to me, better safe than sorry when it comes to your job.
Wanted to post that on Verizon and Samsung website the LTE bands supported on the device doesn't not include bands 12 and 71 that T mobile uses. Well i have used it on T-Mobile and it connected to band 12 which leaves me to believe the Verizon edition supports all bands like a unlock model would. Single and bands 2 4 and 66 worked great and are the main ones used in my part but 12 is around also and connects. Don't have any area where there is band 71 so cannot test that but like i said probably does just wanted to pass the info.

I just started using the Samsung galaxy s10 5g verizon variant with tmobile and had band 71 in the band selection app but today I checked and the highest band it has now is 66. Why did band 71 disappear from the lte band list?
Would you know about that?

I am testing too. I am using Telus in Canada, roaming in US is mostly T-Mobile though.
From what I can see, our version has LTE bands 2,4,5,7 only. It does not have 700MHz bands or 66 aka AWS-3, so we may have trouble in rural areas.

I'm using both t-mobile and ATT sim cards... t-mobile ha been working fine. at&t had been no good it's struggling with multimedia text messaging. Called both att and ways and nobody can fix it for now. Not sure if it's because of the dual setup. I've thing I noticed is that when I remove and replace the sun card manually it will work right for a few hours and then revert back.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Only 2 band out of the 4 bands are supported. I ended up getting the OnePlus 8 Pro. It's SD865 vs the SD865+ in the ROG3, but the lack of ATT band support dissuaded me.
Im using rog 3 with ATT and have no issues at all

Im not sure why your saying you only get 2 lte bands. If anything ROG 3 supports most ATT band.

That's the Global version, which is much more expensive than the CN version. I was looking at the 12GB RAM/256GB ROM CN version for $680. The equivalent Global version is $900+. I ended up getting a OnePlus 8 Pro 12/256 for $710.
