[GUIDE] [HOW TO] Disable annoying "Check battery cover" WITHOUT ROOT - Galaxy S 5 General

Who needs reminding all the time that your phone is only waterproof if you put the back on properly??
I realise I'm just pulling together the wisdom of other people, but I can't find anywhere on the web which describes how to disable those REALLY annoying "Check battery cover" / "Check USB cover" messages which pop up on the Samsung Galaxy S5 after EVERY reboot (and sometimes randomly at other times too) WITHOUT rooting your phone. So here it is - really simple.
1. Download Debloater by GatesJunior here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294
2. Read the thread to learn how to use it.
3. Block the app "Popupuireceiver.apk".
That's it! Pop ups gone.
No unwanted side effects that I can detect so far...
Hope this helps someone else.

Thank you, It works great!! :good:

Just found this, works ☺

Heh, took me long enough to find this workaround. Worked great on my SM-900A running 6.0.1. Used universal-android-debloater and just had to change the filter dropdown from "recommended" to "all", then searched for popupuireceiver and hit "uninstall". This is perfect as the phone will be hard-mounted to a motorcycle as a dashboard.

[Q] How to disable popup warning AFTER charging?

Hi,
I recently got a wireless charging receiver for the phone and now I get this annoying popup which says to close the micro usb properly to prevent water damage.
This happens also sometimes during charging in the middle of the night.
Can anyone tell me how to disable the popup? To make it clearer, it is not the flashing text that appears when the phone is connected to the charger. ( this can be disabled via xposed module)
The one I am talking about is more like a text with a white background picture.
"for protection against water damage firmly seal the charging cover before use"
Anyone else with the "problem" ?
I am on NEE-I9295XXUBMK2.
Thanks for the help in advance.
[edit]
this also happens when I disconnect the device from USB.

I second that!
I have found battery_cover_notice.xml in systemui\res\layout
There is an battery_cover_notice_image and an battery_cover_notice_message
The Pic is help_img_usb.png in folder systemui\res\drawable-hdpi
Now you can try and delete the battery_cover_notice.xml from the SystemUI

I tried and it worked ( at least the popup doesn't appear anymore) but I do not have a notification area at the top anymore. No clock, Signal or anything.
Perhaps it's because of the odex file? Didn't touch that.
I will try it again. Might be, I did something wrong.....
Thanks
okay thanks for feedback...
I will investigate this....
So is there no non-root way of disabling this?

I am.
No solution found so far.
Only I remember - that started after OTA update from Samsung in later 2013.
On original software I didn't have such warning.
Before and after is 4.2.2 Android, I didn't notice any changes, so I am lookiing for old firmware to download...
p.s. I also have wireless charger from "indiegogo"

Cloud it be that this notice is a toast with a custom theme? You could check it with my app EnhancedToast, and hide it if it is a toast. Enable logging in the app and watch it.And yes, root is required for Xposed. Btw, the Google edition don't show it at all

^Mostly what I was going to say, so thanks.
You should check EnhancedToast if you can, and you could always switch ROM's - I'm loving the CM 10.2 ROM, which doesn't have the warning, and offers a lot of other advantages. If a notification comes up in the bar, long-press it and see if comes up with the "app info" button - it could be run through some sort of stock app that you could disable or uninstall altogether.
Hi everyone! I'm new on the forum and in smartphones as well. Rooted GT-i9252 last week. Starting to develop app in future.

Any good source to learn more of ROMs? What do I lose if I dump the original, what do I get with some other ROM?
How should I backup? Meaning there's lot's of data:
- contacts and messaging and that stuff
- pictures, music, videos etc
- OS (?)
- ROM
- Apps (downloaded and system)
Maybe someone could explain the best practice to backup ROM,OS and apps.
Thanks in advance, Kaptah.

What method of rooting your phone did you use? They are not the same thing, but it is possible to do them both at the one time. If everything looks different, then yes, you would have changed your ROM while rooting.

This problem appeared/reappeared when i upgraded from 4.2.2 to 4.3 (ML2)
After rooting ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2690133 )
and disabling KNOXagent it still gives this warning, which it did not do after the 4.2.2 Active Root.
This is merely an annoyance but if someone figures out a quick way to disable it that would be grand.
i have this issue too. cant wait for a fix for this. just updated to 4.3 a few days ago and having to tap the bubble everytime is just annoying. why the hell would they add these rediculous notifications? its not like att or samsung will stand behind the "waterproof" claim anyway..... water damage weather the door is open or closed means your screwed no matter what.
I've personally tried using the "EnhancedToast" module for xposed and the prompts do not register as toast events. It has to be something else.

[how to] [root req.] remove usb flap and back cover pop up warnings

this works on rooted devices only, should work on any variant of the s5.
option 1: with titanium backup, simply freeze "PopupuiReceiver 1.6" and reboot.
option 2: using your choice of root explorer, rename PopupuiReceiver.apk to PopupuiReceiver.apk.bak AND rename PopupuiReceiver.odex to PopupuiReceiver.odex.bak, and reboot.
the annoying notifications warning about the USB flap cover and the back cover will be gone.

that's possible. I prefer to freeze apps even instead of removing or renaming. I put the rename option out there as an option in case someone doesn't want to use titanium backup (don't know why...). heck, you could even remove them from /system/app/ with a root explorer.
anyway, my issue with removing system apps is that you're manipulating the system. if you ever needed to un-root and revert to stock without access to a computer that would not be truly possible. if something is frozen with titanium, a factory reset restores it.
just personal preference...
Thanks, worked great on S5 Active as well.

Popup IS stupid
It would have been nice to have the cover popup only popup when the cover isn't closed all the way like the USB cover. Why remind us every time? Useless feature.

I wish there is a way to disabling those pop-up warnings without compromising the phone's warranty by doing root process. I almost gave up buying the S5 because of this problem. Such a shame for an amazing phone like this. This was gonna be my first smartphone ever and I'm not a fan of avoiding the warranty in the first day. Never done that root thing and not a clue how doing it. It would be much easier if Samsung just provided option of turning pop-up warnings off so that they never occured again. But no, only for Verizon models... At least it is good to know that there is a solution. This made me there is a chance that I might buy the S5...
Hey, in case I buy the S5, if I do root thing, does the phone still get the updates from Samsung?

I would also love to know this too. I have been looking for a way to do this for awhile. Even went as far as flashing a ROM to remove it. Much easier!
Please, anyone know the solution for this one too?
Glad I found this thread. I have a sprint s5, so once I root it I will be doing this. Very annoying that anytime I unplug the charger it reminds me with the stupid pop up.

Lost S Health 3.5.1 - help!

A few days back my watch (Neo) stopped synching with S Health (long after updating the app and Gear Manager) - it just happened out of the blue. No reboots were able to fix this so I thought (yeah, should have known Samsung better) that if I reinstall S Health it might work again. BTW: all other sync activities DO work between the watch and my Note 3.
Lo and behold, after "Uninstalling app updates" I found myself stuck with S Health 2.5 (pre- Gear 2) and definitely NO way to sync as it takes me to a page to "update your Gear Manager to a new version" - which I already have.
Needless to say that S health reports "This is the most recent version" when I try to force an update. The app is NOWHERE to be found on their market. I tried the old "fitness" app (superseded by S Health later) and that doesn't work either for an update.
Last but not least I did try to unpair and pair again...no luck. I didn't factory default the watch as the problem is clearly on the phone side.
I started reading that this synchronization has been reported as broken by many....wonder how many here have the issue (pedometer, sleep, etc)?
Second...can a merciful soul upload S Health 3.5.1 maybe I can sideload it to my phone? Cheers!
/RANT: no wonder Apple is eating Samsung's lunch (even at home in SK) as I have not seen such a clusterf... of apps not working/pulled from market, updates that never arrive, etc. Bad, bad customer experience....100% disappointed with Samsung.
wipe the slate clean...and go on hating Samsung
Sort of fixed it...
Installed the 3.1 S Health version from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2750381&highlight=s+health&page=2
That was NOT synching either...so I thought I need to bite the bullet and wipe clean all the data from the watch and Gear Manager....that DID IT.
Super painful as I had a ton of apps and customizations and my life is better spent having fun rather than fiddling with the phone and watch, but ...that only makes me swear I will ditch Samsung next time around.
Hope this helps someone...someday
/EDIT Ok, that effing didn't last. Not only I lost most of my watch apps (how the [email protected] do I get them back when I cannot uninstall/re-install them ) including Watch Styler.
And the pedometer claims to sync but now it doesn't transfer any data.
[email protected] you Samsung.
Just in case....mind posting a 3.5 S Health if you have it?
Thanks

Well I suppose I have to thank myself. How I got S Health 3.5.5 back:
1. uninstalled Galaxy Apps update (back to ROm original version)
2. uninstalled any S Health updates
3. Allowed Galaxy Apps update
4. In my "Purchased" apps I found now thta S Health shows up and indicates an update is available
5. Forced the update and had to reconfigure my profile (lost all data) despite having a backup.
Hope this helps someone else fighting this horrible app.
Do you still have the synchronizing issue with S-Health? I cannot synchronize since the last update. Nobody seems to have this issue on this forum, but in France I know that a lot of people have this problem.
Thanks

You can probably imagine if that worked I would not have gone through the trouble of uninstalling and installing both apps. So NO, your suggestion was tried and did NOT fix my problem. Might work in other cases...
Just tested all the steps in this thread and my sync is still broken, nothing goes to S Health. Also in Gear Manager is I click the gear icon the option to sync is grayed out.

I had a similar issue after my S5 was upgraded to Lollipop. Turns out, I missed an Gear Manager upgrade along the way. Upgraded to the latest Gear Manager and that seemed to work. Now there is a firmware upgrade for the Gear 2 Neo that seems to make it work even better. Latest software: Gear 2 Neo - R381XXU0BOA2, Gear Manager - 2.2.15011799. S Health - 3.5.5.0036. I am not rooted

I started searching trough the smali code to find out more about "Requested parameter [languageCode:nob] is undefined value."
Suddenly I thought "am I just making this more difficult than it is? I'll start by changing the language of the phone to English!"
And badabing.. suddenly S Health for the first time was syncing with my Samsung account... (attachment)
since many of the class call use langcode it wouldn't surprise me if missing langcodes could be a fundamental flaw in the S Health app design.

Mine is English too...always was. BUT...that being said, after the steps I listed above, sync seems to be working fine (knock on wood).
Samsung being Samsung, despite NOT having a scheduled sync set up, I do get a midnight notification "Please open the mobile app and set up a user profile" if no manual sync was done that day. Makes ZERO sense, as I do (obviously) have a profile and why on Earth would it tell me to open the "S Health mobile app" on the phone itself...it's not like I have one on the watch too. Semantics...

Possible Debloater??

looks good to start. I was using it with my N4 (you'll see me active in the thread) I grabbed an S6 today and tried it out. Read packages ok, did a filter for ATT. Checked off to hide all. a reboot for grins and no more att bloat. quicker than going through the menus / launcher and disabling each one at a time.
Even with the N4, if you disable something you shouldn't worst case is a factory reset. You're not going to brick the phone.
Nice to see it worked and much faster as well

Fortunately Samsung built in a VERY quick way to disable the apps as to not burden you with "disabling each one at a time". All you have to do is go to the app drawer, tap the "edit" button in the upper right corner, then hit the minus icon on the apps you want to disable. Cool thing about this is that you would never have to deal with a factory reset either....
Plus even if this didn't exist, wouldn't you prefer disabling one at a time over factory resetting? lol

No worries, use it myself and makes it easy.
Can you specify what this actually removes? Thanks.

Use notepad++ or other text editor to see the lists in the debloater.bat file.
Thanks!
I want to try this debloater.....but I use the Samsung Extreme Power Saver mode often. Will this remove any app/services that are necessary for that to function?? Thanks.
Nice work @muniz_ri, how were these lists (Light, Medium, Extreme) defined?

I don't think it does. I can still turn regular & ultra power save mode on/off without any weird errors. Be warned using the extreme debloat as in the script it removes the GoogleContactsSync and GoogleCalendarSync. Just edit the batch file and remove the two and save before you run. Found out the hard way after the fact why my Google contacts were not syncable after customizing everything. If you've already run the that extreme option in debloater you will have to reflash the ROM and reconfigure it all form scratch.
Anyways, great contribution OP as it has given new life to my S5's battery. Now lasts much longer and runs great!
Can this be used with OF3 also? Thinking yes, but thought I would ask.
Yes, it worked fine for me
any change to get a similar one for G870A (active)?
I have a problem and am not sure how to fix it. I used this last night before bed and it worked great. This morning I realized I that the top level also wiped out my samsung acct and s health. So I tried to do a factor wipe and now I'm stuck in a loop where it keeps popping up "Unfortunately Samsung account has stopped" and I can't finish redoing the phone. I can add my gmail acct but it keeps going back to that when the popup occurs. I thought I could open Odin to just reflash - G900A_OF3_Stock_Rooted_Deodexed_ROM but I can't get Odin to see the phone and say "ready".
Any ideas?
Phenomenal script, thanks! Wish I had time to make a GUI "front-end" based on this. Took me a bit to figure out which packages were exactly what.
Tip: If doing an extreme de-bloat, use TiBu to freeze com.samsung.android.securitylogagent(KNOX logging). It was causing battery drain due to wake locks since I removed just about every piece of Samsung bloat.
since we can't root lollipop, I found this program to be helpful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294 - here's my blocked apps list to import (right click and import).
EDIT: I did this and turned back on animations in developer settings (previously off to 0.5) - and a reboot. I think debloating things really helped speed up the phone - everything seems smoother.
just making sure, but will this work for samsung galaxy s5 SM-900A or is it for s5 active?

Hello muñiz!
What is the line I have to delete from the light de-bloater option if I want to keep Finger Scan screeen unlocker?
I can't find the correct one to keep that feature.

I can confirm that it will work for the g870a. I tried both oc5 and of3. Light, medium, and extreme all work. The extreme really impressed me with all the unnecessary bs that some debloaters miss.
@muniz_ri This works with g870a as well
Sent from my G870a on 38's.
