I get asked a lot how I rooted my Huawei Honor Note 8 so I thought I'd do a basic how to from memory on how I did it. It's relatively easy to do.
You'll need your phone's bootloader unlocked.
The files from Huawei's forums http://club.huawei.com/thread-10828573-1-1.html or https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwyaxIga7s0qc0ZKRGtsdndwV3M/view?usp=sharing
The app is in chinese but has some english on the buttons.
To unlock bootloader:
Got bootloader unlock code with the app on the playstore "DC Huawei Bootloader Codes" (took about 8 hours to get)
Enable USB debugging on the phone & connect it to the computer.
Unlock the bootloader with the program downloaded. Use the first button on the first tab labeled bootloader. Put in unlock code in the pop up box & click ok.
To root:
Enable USB debugging on the phone & connect it to the computer.
Flash the recovery_twrp.img file with the program downloaded. Use the 2nd button on the first tab labeled recovery.
To change twrp into english, click on the 3rd down 2nd row button & then click on the globe button. The globe is really hard to hit! Keep trying till you get it Then select English.
Install SuperSU with TWRP
Should now be rooted!
Question. Is there anything I should do like backup my bootloader or something before starting this process?

Unlocking your bootloader will wipe the device; factory reset for sure, and I believe it also erases your internal storage (don't quote me on that though, not sure for this phone), but your OS will remain whatever stock version you had installed until you flash something else.

I did not backup anything.
Ok thanks.. I appreciate it
I have a question, or making a root and unlock the bootloader is associated with a full reset your data and settings that can be done root without losing data?

Hi guys
I unlocked my note 8 successfully . In startup screen show your devives is unlocked and can not be trusted every time i restar the phone is it normal?
Second thing i flashed twrp by clicking on recovery button then after restarted i clicked on 3rd button of second row to change to english but it didnt say click on english
How to enter twrp recovey i tried pressing power button and volume up nothing happened
Plz help
Yuppers.. not trusted cuz ya unlocked it.
Should be volume up & power. You can also do it with the app. The 2nd tab... recovery. Will boot it into recovery too.
You have to click the globe button on the far right to get to the language. It's a ***** to hit! BTW... TWRP has reverted back to chinese a few time now for some reason on mine. It's kind of annoying considering how hard it is to hit that one button.
Questions about the root process
1) why do you need the unlock code?
2) Where can I find SuperSU for honor note 8? Can someone please provide a link?
3) Has anyone succeeded rooting?
Thanks in advance for the answers.
Please Help!
Everything was find, I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, when I flashed SuperSU it bootloops!
Can someone please help.....
I'm not sure why it would be boot looping. I'd flash it again. Might even try a factory reset before flashing too. You're the first I've heard of with that problem. Make sure you're on version 22.

DC Huawei Bootloader Codes not working
please help
Hi,
I read of the possibility of the root of honor note 8 through oneclickroot, kingroot, etc.
It must first be unlocked bootloader or the software will to unlock?
For unlocking the bootloader you must use to force pay program dc-unlocker?
Thank you
DC Huawei Bootloader Code get but not unlock

in the app, there is another way to get it. choose not by imei.
write the developer of the app you did not get the code and you want a refund, and pay for the second method. this is how i did it.

Great! Many thanks for your quick reply! I contacted dc-unlocker support and thats what they replied..
Hello, this codes is from factory DB. Sorry, but there not all phones present in this db.
This happens frequently if phone has MEID .
But you can read code by cable, we support almost all huawei.
If reading by cable not acceptable we can do refund.
Im waiting for their next answers at my qustions, what exactly have i do..
I have to download their soft probably and make everything there..
I had no time to check their forum yet, im sure there will be instructions..
EDIT:
Oki so i used DC-unlocker software, received these codes and unlocked Bootloader successfully!
I have rooted both phones already!
I had an issues with ADB drivers on Win10 and on Win7 as well, could not find my devices in devices manager but i have solved it!
TWRP 3.02 with preinstalled SuperSU works fine on B027.. In one of my phones i had B029 so i had to downgrade to B027..
On B029 doesnt work flash command in cmd.. Stuck on "waiting for device"..
My current phone is LG G4 and in case of this phone it was easy to find all tutorials and do everything in just a few minutes, in case of P9 the task is harder since 'tutorials' are all over the place, so I've decided to make a forum post about it and ask you guys few questions, I'll grab the phone in question later today or tommorow (Issues at provider's end, so I have to wait till they fix it), so I'm gathering all the information and tutorials so I'll be ready to work with this phone as soon as I get it:
1. What is the difference between obtaining/unlocking the P9 through (free) huawei website and the (paid) DC unlocker?
If I use DC unlocker, will it still make a record in Huawei database or it uses own-generated codes?
2. I do plan to debrand, unlock, TWRP, root (via Magisk) and install systemless Xposed. What would be the latest Open Europe FW that will work with full systemless setup? Can you link me threads/files that I could use to achieve this?
EDIT: I just found out that systemless xposed does not pass safetynet. In that case I'd use regular xposed + rootswitch.
Thanks.
bumping after 24hours and also answering my own (first) question. I talked with support and they use their own generated codes, so there are no traces of my phone being unlocked in Huawei database. The only way of checking it would be checking the device itself.
I'm too much of a newbie to answer your questions in entirety but regarding your first question. I did not think there was any difference EXCEPT that I tried for 2-3 days to get an unlock code through the Huawei website and finally just got fed up with the error codes. So I went to DC Unlocker and got one within 10 minutes. I saw on other threads that Huawei's web site is frequently down and unlock codes are sometimes hard to obtain. So, to me, it was just a matter of convenience. Try Huawei first and if you have trouble just pay the $ for DC-Unlocker. Good to know about the Huawei database because I presume that the unlock code that I received from DC-Unlocker will no longer work a second time (since I have since gone back to stock Marshmallow).
At the time of unlocking/relocking by using ADB/Fastboot, no Internet ad no on-line database is involved:
-You can disconnect PC from LAN/WLAN
-ADB reboots phone to the Fastboot mode
-In Fastboot mode phone is not connected to any network
Fastboot just validates if your code matches IMEI/Device ID of your phone
Keep the code safe, you may need it several times - I already used it three times.
Finally, I didn't pay a cent for the unlocking code, go to Huawei Web site (from PC or force Desktop mode in your mobile browser), provide the required info and get the code immediately - buying DC Unlocker could not be any easier or faster.
It was half a year ago, I recall that EU countries (nor USA, Australia, etc) were oferred, I chose Hong Kong or Singapure since they were available and with English language.
You must only provide an e-mail address about yourself, who cares about your real residence.
Btw, I have two Huawei IDs, one from that Hong Kong (for unlocking) and another registered for my real home country, with two different e-mail addresses but for the same phone
I can login to Huawei ID application on the phone, wiith one or another account, no problem
I dont see any need or advantage in paying to DC Unlocker, but everybody can decide for himself/herself
PS If you are concerned about bringing phone to the Huawei service - they immediately see if Bootloader is unlocked (reboot the phone and read the warranty that your phone is not safe - you can get rid off only if you relock the Bootloader but that will hard-reset the phone again) , they can even inspect if Bootloader was unlocked and relocked, they don't rely on a DB
Thanks for your answer. In the end, i just used dc unlocker and now my phone is working as I intended
The only thing I didn't do was reflashing with another FW, since it looked like unmodified/not-branded FW already (despite getting it from the carrier)
Regarding unlock code source - my point was, even if I relock bootloader and there will be no boot message about that & bootloader will report LOCKED status, they MIGHT check in the db for imei match. And that's what I wanted to avoid. (mentioning this just because DC unlocker can LOCK bootloader, not RE-LOCK.)
So 3 months after I got the phone, I tried to unlock the bootloader about 2 weeks ago, and got the timer (168 hours). Now when I tried to unlock it again, it's mostly giving me (Like 9.5 out of 10 times) a "Couldn't verify device: Can't get info" Error at 50%. There are rare instances when it goes beyond 50% and stops at 99% it will give me the following error (please see attachments).
I've tried everything from:
1. Re-linking my account in "Mi Unlock Status"
2. Removing fingerprints and lockscreen
3. Running unlock tool with admin rights
Could this be because I may have disabled some background apps or some of the apps I installed? I did leave Mi Cloud and Mi Account Sync on along with Find my device. If yes, then would a factory reset solve this problem?
I don't know what to do anymore :crying: . If anybody could help that would be greatly appreciated
Xiaomi sucks i had the same problem i got my phone 1 month earlier and everytime i tried to unlock they doubled the wqiting time in total im gettingv2 months of waiting and still im not sure after thzt, they will not add more time. They ducks with their unlock process, we want it to unlock this **** why making it complicated ? Chinese bastards

Download an earlier version of the unlock tool from here and try unlocking with the earlier version https://c.mi.com/thread-2262302-1-0.html
Some people have reported that using an older version works in these cases.
Use the miflash_unlock-en-2.3.803.10 version, it'll work!

You probably need to use a VPN service. I had similar problem with my MIX 2 and I had used Plex VPN and then only could unlock bootloader
Thank you to everybody who gave advice. It was weird, since what I did was:
1. Logged into the Mi Cloud website with my Mi Account
2. Checked if my phone was online
3. Tried the Find Me option, and was able to locate it (scary stuff and one of the reasons why I'm unlocking my bootloader)
4. Left it for a day and when I tried to unlock the following day, I was able to unlock it immediately
Seriously, the unlocking process of Xiaomi phones is a bit tedious and varied.

Thank you, using Find Me I was eventually able to unlock
I will agree on the tedious unlocking process. The last phone I will buy from them will be the Android One ones (A1/A2/A3). I had a fuss-free experience with my A1.
Hi, for the past 4 hours i've been trying to update the huawei P9 to android 7 with firmware finder and i can't get that damn thing to work out.
I either get a failure of pakage verification even tho it said that the update is compatible with my phone or i just get a software failure and it says i can restart or go into erecovery. I've read through countless threads and i tried the suggested pause turn off the proxy and proceed the update and that didn't help either.
I don't know what to do anymore. Please help me internet

If you are stuck on Marshmallow (EMUI 4.x) with c900, see instructions how to rebrand and update to Nougat:

Hello, i wanted to unlock my xiaomi redmi 8's bootloader because i wanna install root on it. I completely understand the risks and im willing to unlock it. I don't care if it takes months for xiaomi to approve my mi account. So, when i tried logging in into mi unlock tool with my mi account, first thing i noticed is that its quite slow. Anyway i entered my details when i was at the account login page, and then a few seconds later the page turned white. At first i thought it was just simply loading however after i checked the logs, i see this message: WARNING: account loading error: -188. Ive done some research why it isnt working. They suggested that i should disable my antivirus and run the tool with administrator priviliges. However that didnt help either. Ive also noticed that after i clicked add account and device in mi unlock state, (i enabled mobile data and turned off wifi) it said my mi account had been added. However when i exit out of mi unlock state and go back it says to add my account again. I dont know if thats intentional or not. If somebody can help me i'd gladly appreciate it.
if youve failed unlocking it, your phone is still safely under guarantee, have no fear (IMHO)
i remembered ~2Y ago when i tried unlocking it i was also sent in a loop. i followed the usual guides and all and was also reverified on my phone and PC again. sometimes the mi server can be buggy, and we had to wait for a bit.
make sure your phones SIM 1 (in the middle) has both SMS and data kuota available, as thats how they verify your device and account. IIRC 1 SMS to their servers, and 1 verification data from network to your phone.
I haven't gotten to unlock my device yet. So far i'm at the logging in into mi unlock tool stage. And also yes, i have all of those things that you mentioned.
yep it looks like youre stumped after waiting a day. for references, which guide are you following? does windows and ADB|fastboot detect your phone and driver?
usually an account is verified after a few days when creating a new xiaomi account, and 1 week after using the phone.
from what i remembered that most guides dont state is that my friend told me to locate my device first via i.mi.com first. after locating the device in normal system mode, follow the usual steps. as i said i too remembered how buggy mi unlock can be. hopefully others can also chime in.
my mi unlock tools an ancient 4.5.514.47, newer versions should be preferred for security|bugfixes, but im just saying i unlocked it with that version in case it might help.
Yes mi unlock tool detects my device in fastboot mode. I'm following a tutorial on youtube.
Good news, i managed to unlock and root my phone! I guess i was just lucky because i tried logging from day to day and i finally got it to work.
