I cracked the glass on my Moto X 2014... I don't want to replace the whole screen, it's expensive. Can I buy a fitting glass and replace just that? If so, where do I buy it, and are there any instructions (either written or video)?
Thanks a lot.
As far as I know, it is not possible to buy the glass on its own. The entire front panel - glass, digitizer and screen - all come as one unit. Even if you could buy it separately, I think you'd have a difficult time replacing it on an existing panel.

There are other videos but it's possible but not easy.
If you have cracked glass and touch working, I would recommend you to install a tempered glass screen protector for now (temporarily).
Save money and get a full display assembly (glass+digitizer+frame)
Because fixing the glass alone is the toughest job to do in a mobile!
Spares are around 100$ in ebay. :|
Thanks guys! I think I will proceed with the tampered glass protector then. Spares are really very expensive at the moment, jeez...
Hey Nijom
could you (or somebody else) link me where I could buy a tampered glass screen protector or other good quality screen protector for the Moto X? Unfortunately I cannot find any here in Italy, in physical shops, and in order to buy online, I'd like to get a good one.
Thank you

I contracted Motorola and they sent me a replacement device for $125. The best part: it was still on 5.0 and I was able to Mofo and sunshine to unlock. It's like I got a completely new phone for $125.

I got one from Alibabaexpress: (note, the link is in turkish)

I can verify that this is an OEM screen. I replaced it myself which wasn't too difficult except for the fact that the included T4 screwdriver broke after unscrewing six screws. Also I wish I had bought those pointed tweezers that are in all of the repair videos. I just had normal nail tweezers which made the repair more difficult but I still did it.

Checking to see if anyone knows of or has a source (other than eBay) for screen replacements for the focus. I've got a badly cracked screen that I'd like to replace, but samsung direct wants $156 and the cheapest on ebay is $98.xx coming from overseas. Everyone I found via google is in the $120's give or take now as well.
Kindof kicking myself for not picking one up when I had the 10% off ebay coupon and there were US sources at $98.
Just bought 2 screens from a wholesaler. Installed one and its working great. Need sim card replacement tray now. Can't find them anywhere. If anyone has a link please let me know.

I'd like to know where you got the screens too.
www.wholesalegadgetparts.com, US wholesaler, $99.00 bucks, BBB rated etc... I just ordered one.
******** UPDATE, this seller is legit. Fast shipping, and the new digitizer/screen is flawless.
How about some info on disassembly and replacement?
So, if your 2 year old is like mine, he's quite efficient at shattering your phone's screen. SO, I went online and found a replacement screen and set sbout installing it myself. I make no claim at any sort of electrical know-how... Damn it Jim, I'm a med student not an electrician. But I do enjoy my gadgets. Anyway, I went online and found some you-tube videos and successfully changed out the screen! Woo-Hoo! I used a hybrid of the two videos as one of them seemed a little too, much but it had a good rebuild sequence.
The first video has a good description of how to remove the screen (I didn't use the hair dryier and it worked just fine), and the second shows how to put it back. The second video should also be good to show how to replace other thinsg (camera, etc.).

I have a cracked glass, the LCD and digitizer are fine. I have found someone that sells the outer glass for $16. My question is if I can get the digitizer off the old glass and onto the new one.
I honestly don't want to spend $100 on a screen replacement when I can buy a slightly used one for $150...

On ebay is 12dlls the glass, somebody told me that they fix it in a mall were i am from (Mexico) they heat the screen to disolve the glue but i'm not sure about this. The total of the price should be like 35dlls the replacement.
No Moto Care, no case, no brains obviously.
Are these screens self replaceable? Does Motorola have a screen repair program? I bought the phone in late November...
kicking myself..guess i will get a case now..
I had moto replace the screen for free on my 2013 model, they offer one free replacement due to broken screen. The screens are replaceable but not the glass only. Since its fused to the display. Etradesupply.com has the screens and they are reputable

I'd imagine that it wouldn't be too easy to replace the screen, just getting the back off without damaging it is a task. I'd send it in for repair, even if it costs an extra $100. The X is too nice a phone to do something like that yourself. Just my opinion.
For those who may need to know in the future, Motorola will exchange the phone for $125 plus tax. for a CC deposit of $500 they will send it out first, then you send back the damaged phone.

That's pretty fair. You almost don't need insurance at that rate.

I went this route myself, my phone was delivered to their service center today. They claim a 4 day turnaround before the replacement gets shipped out. I personally couldn't afford the $500 hold, and I have a 2nd Gen G that'll work until I get a X back.
I agree it's more than a fair price. Lesson learned on the screen on the 2nd Gen X, it seems more fragile than other phones I've owned.

I actually replaced just the glass on mine. Its not completely fused to the digitizer. Thats incorrect information. Its just glued on. You can separate them with enough patience and heat, it just takes time to work it slowly. Its not an issue whatsoever.
I also dropped my phone two weeks back and the screen cracked. I started a customer support chat with Motorola and they offered to replace the phone for free. They did ask if it was ordered via moto maker tho.
I received my replacement from Motorola Germany today :victory:

Nope. Toughest part is just not damaging the frame and getting the screen started off peeling up. If you can get a really thin blade in between there to start off, and then user a guitar pick from there to gently pry it off the digitizer while using a lot of heat. Just work very slowly! Took me about 20-30 minutes total to get the screen off the digitizer. Don't put much if any pressure of the digitizer though!

Hello Guys,
Yesterday my Nexus 6 hit the ground and my display cracked from one side to another. Of course I want to repair it. I found a tutorial on iFixit which is pretty easy to understand but I´m stuck searching for the right part. The whole display costs about 180 bucks which is a way to expensive. This is for the whole LCD (with Digitizer etc.) But I just need the front panel with the Gorilla Glass 3. Does anyone know a trusted shop where I can buy just the front panel for a moderate price?
German Shops would be the best for me. But American shops with German Shipping would fit too.
Thanks for your help.

I can tell you right now that replacing just the glass yourself is something you should not do unless you have extensive experience in it. I've been repairing phones for years and I still don't do just glass. Either the whole assembly or no service. Most places won't even touch it if you only want the glass replaced. It's fused to the LCD. I have done it plenty of times before but the proper tools are a must for this kind of repair. You can't just slap new glass on because it won't look pretty at all. It's much easier to replace the whole unit. Most first timers end up breaking their LCD anyway trying to replace that glass. I highly suggest just grabbing the whole assembly.

The digitizer and the glass are fused into 1 part, you won't be able to separate them with enough grace to mate the digitizer to the new screen

A back and new bezel is $145 installed according to the Samsung Service Center in Plano, TX. It's about ninety minutes worth of work and if you're near a service center can be done while you wait.
EBay has spare parts now.

This. Tho I doubt it considering it's curved.
$45 On ebay. ..sorry I can't post link yet.
Theres a local, to me, supply company (etech parts) that says they will have them in stock very soon. I know it doesnt help now, but they do have a website. Just search for it, as I dont want to break any rules. There are a few parts on there for the Note 5 now, but the screens, s pen, backs, glass, etc will be there within a few weeks I was told.
Not sure what their pricing will be like, but it will be genuine Samsung parts.

Hi guys, I am planing to buy this part http://m.ebay.com/itm/301919713916?sojTags=bu=bu&euid=4124923511da4d918b84785bd245abaf&_mwBanner=1

I purchased this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/151944057660?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. It looks OEM whereas the others I have noticed do not have the text at the bottom of the glass.
I bought one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/311644498275
It has a Samsung logo (can't see too well in image) and they appear legit. But be careful when placing on. You must gently press all around the edges before it seats right in perfectly.
I believe this would be the same procedure as replacing the battery. it would involve using a heat source (a heat gun in the video I have seen) to soften the glue, use some plastic tools to gently pry up the back and apply the replacement (not sure if you have to reheat or not) it does not seem complicated, you just have to be careful and not rush it or you could damage your phone.
As has already been posted the parts can be had from several sources. (one bit of advice - if you are not sure about doing this yourself, you may want to have it done by a professional)
Cheers,
BR
Hello all.
So, the screen from my nexus 7 is broken, I had it in my back pocket with the minijack attached.
I got a tilapia version.
Is it worth it to replace the screen and the digitillizer?
If yes, do you recommend an online shop? I live in Germany.
I am not really familiar with eBay, I will use it only if it is really trustworthy vendor.
Thank you all in advance

I've tried - no Gorilla Glass in front so will brake in no time as mine did.
Not worth as an investment in my humble opinion.
Try searching ebay for the unit with the working screen.
ok i need some help here, i dropped my n7 and it seems the glass is cracked and thus digitizer fails completely (damn you single glass system).
Now i dont understand is what do i need, does it have to be touch screen + digitizer or is there simply top glass assembly cum digitizer online. i will be ordering from india so i dont think i will be able to get it replaced. so its just one time buy.
screen combo is massively expensive at 40$ something which is basically the cost of my tablet itself. however touch screen assembly seems to be just 10$ affair with free shipping. which one will be for me?? please help

If it's only glass cracked, then you can do it - just need some patience and skills to disassembly digitizer glass and LCD, you can look at THIS
I doubt you'll do it if you've never done something like this before, but you have nothing to loose.
the new lcd+digitizer you can get for about 20$ with free postage, if you search in right place - just checked it and found one for 19 in 1 min
