Nexus 6--- MMS over WiFi - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought an Unlocked Nexus 6 from the Google Play Store 9 months ago (I love it), I'm using it on Verizon,... I have No problems at all sending MMS photos through messenger while connected to WiFi.
Then today I bought a Verizon Nexus 6 though Costco and MMS only works if Data is enabled. IT WILL NOT SEND PICTURES OVER WiFi??
I've compared the 2 devices, settings, VPN's, both are rooted, both running the same LMY48M, everything seems identical, yet the NEW Nexus 6 will not do WiFi MMS Photos it requires a data connection?
What am I overlooking?
Thanks.

Thanks, Checked all the APN's and they all appear to be identical. I'm on the phone right now with Verizon Tech support they are trying to figure this out. lol
I'll post a quick update if they give a solution.

Verizon has no idea what the problem is

Never seen MMS over WiFi only without a hack. MMS goes over Verizon data server. Unless something changed have to have the Vtext for mms that goes over data. I'm old school. Verizon could have changed their ways.

I don't think Verizon is the problem. I have Cricket and have the same issue.

The carrier has to support WIFI mms. Last I knew only T-Mobile supported it at all. Normally MMS activates Cell Data (even if off) for a second to send the mms and then disables it again.

This info doesn't help in any way though. Why is the MMS not going through at all?

Check your apn. Is there anything under mmsc?

Hi,
I am on tmo with a unrooted stock build R. my MMSC is empty. should I populate with your apn in order to have mms over wifi? its so boring to turn data on/off just to send a mms.
Thanks.

guys, I was having the issue couple weeks ago (cricket) and it jsut went away. The wife was also having the same issue on her Nexus 5 and she had to switch to "textra" app to get the problem solved. Apparently it had to do something with Messenger app with google. It seems to be fixed now tho. Also i read somewhere its a bug somewhere in Marshmallow

I had this problem on cricket last week thought it was cm 12 causing the problems.. on chroma right now and haven't has this come back.. but at the same time cm 12 always show att regardless of the apn,, stock based roms always show cricket,, maybe i will try and flash cm 12 again and see if the issue is still there,,

I've never had MMS work over WiFi. If somebody sends me a MMS (and my mobile data happens to be off, and WiFi is on), I get a "download" message in Messenger app, and clicking that does nothing till I enable mobile data.
My APN shows T-Mobile GPRS (fast.t-mobile.com)
Edit: just found https://support.t-mobile.com/thread/57886
APN type was missing mms. I've added that, and will try out later today. Maybe that'll do the trick.

[Q] Straight Talk APN settings for Note 3 and AT&T LTE?

What APN settings are people using with the AT&T branded Note 3 on Straight Talk? I just bought a new AT&T micro sim from Straight Talk that supposedly allows LTE to work. Please let me know the least restrictive APN settings that works for both LTE and MMS

Those appear to be the stock ST settings from the ST website. I am unable to send/receive MMS with those settings. I have tried about a dozen other settings from users who are able to MMS, but none work for me.
I called ST and spoke to three escalating levels of tech support managers over a 58 minute call. None of them were able to help, although one told me my account settings were wrong on their end. The last one told me that they do not guarantee MMS service, and I would only get it if I was near one of their (Straight Talk) towers. I was unaware that they had their own towers. She also told me the N3 does not have the capability to MMS, and that I need a "more advanced" device.
With the HUGE number of N3 users having MMS problems on ST, I am beginning to think ST is limiting MMS to conserve band width. I actually lost the ability to send/receive MMS about 3 weeks before I purchased my N3 while I was still on my N1. That's why I think it is ST. Just my opinion though.

I haven't even tried MMS on my Note 3 yet. So many of the people I communicate with are on Hangouts or FB Messenger I rarely use text anymore. I'll have my old lady send me a MMS text and see what happens. Hopefully MMS issues will be cleared up if Google hopefully integrates Hangouts and MMS here *soon*.
MMS worked on my Note 2 and LG G Pro. I didn't switch to the new tfdata apn sim till about 2 months ago when they launched the LTE service. I have received MMS on my G Pro with that newer SIM.

I've tried a ton of different APN settings I've found on the internet. Nothing has fixed/enabled downloading of MMS.
Everything else works though... I can send MMS and download speeds are great.. just can't download MMS no matter what. The old HSPA sim card worked perfectly though, but I'm not giving up LTE for MMS.
I've tried calling Straight Talk and nothing has helped, they basically told me the device I have isn't guaranteed to get all the features and that it may be my phone that has the problem.
Try leaving the proxy blank. I did this and it seems to be working fine.

Thanks for this suggestion, but....it did nothing to help my lack of mms-ability. I really think ST or att is blocking us as this lack of mms started for me about a month before I got my N3. That correlates with a new att 4g tower installation in my small rural town. Prior to that we were on 2g and I was able to SLOWLY send/receive mms. After the new tower...nothing.
Sms works with all the different apn settings I have tried including this one suggested by enigma2446. Sms even works with the stock att apn while using my ST sim card!

What do you have in the mms proxy?
Try putting in this 66.209.11.33 or 66.209.11.34
< Coming to you live from the planet One X >
mms3.tracfone.com
I've tried both of the 66.209..... before and neither worked for me. It makes no difference what I put in, no mms. It just stopped suddenly the day my N1 went from a 2g to a 4g signal. ST tells me both the N1 and N3 are not mms capable. That's bs as my N1 sent/received mms prior to that signal change. Its not my N3. Its att and ST!

I've been google searching this for 3 weeks. 216.155.165.40 didn't fix things. I don't have [email protected]/wcdma setting option under mobile data. Only an on or off checkbox for mobile data. In the *#*# settings it is set for LTE/GSM. I have seen screenshots of the mobile data settings and thought it strange I don't have that option.
Thanks for all of your help!

Straight Talk MMS Solution (WORKS FOR ME)
Okay...I feel like a dumba$$ posting this. But if it helps someone else then I won't be as embarrassed
First, the solution: If you are using any messaging app other than the stock apk, make sure you enter the MMSC, MMS Proxy, MMS Port settings WITHIN THE APP YOU USE.
Now, My excuse: I have used Handcent SMS for several years in multiple devices (Dell Streak 5, SG Note (1), and this SG Note 3. The Note 3 is the only device that did not automatically use the device APN settings for sending MMS. I never had any trouble until the last month on my N1. That was about the time att upgraded its towers in my town, and when I updated the Handcent apk to Handcent 5. From that point on, I have been unable to send or receive MMS. I have spent countless hours trying different APN settings and searching for solutions. Two days ago, I discovered that I could send MMS from the native Messaging app (I froze the native apk immediately after rooting my N3 without trying it first), but not from any other app (Textra, Chomp, Handcent, 8sms.....). Today, I re-installed Handcent and went through every setting. I entered the MMS settings WITHIN Handcent and gave it a try. IT WORKED!!! I also tried it with 8sms and was successful. I then re-froze the native apk and the other messaging apps still work!
I have never been able to send/receive mms this quickly. As I said in the title, FOR ME, this solves my mms problems completely. I wish I would have gone through ALL of the Handcent settings from the beginning. I know...STUPID!!!
kraz
Thanks for the update krazman. I am having few issues with my N3 APN settings, 4G is not working properly. Can you please share what APNs you are currently using? maybe few screenshots?
Much thanks in advance!
I am using the stock Straight Talk apn settings from the ST website. I never had internet problems. Only messaging app problems. Are you in the USA and on Straight Talk? If Yes, see the ST website. If No, the ST settings will create further problems for you.

Perfect. I just updated my setting with the following from ST's website for Galaxy Phones. Works flawless so far.
APN Settings
FIELD SETTINGS
NAME STRAIGHT_TALK
APN att.mvno
MMSC (i get blocked by xda, please see ST site for this one)
MMS PROXY 66.209.11.33
MMS PORT 80
MMS_APN att.mvno
A co-worker just picked up a Note3 (off contract) and grabbed a ST sim. All I did was use the ST APN that I had in my Note 2. Working great and slamming 4G. Didn't need to adjust the proxy settings. Just throwing this out there...
So you guys are getting LTE with the att.mvno APN? These are with new SIM's labeled for LTE. My LTE sim won't even work unless it's on tfdata. Interesting.
How fast is it? Most people on the tfdata APN are getting sub 20 down. In the same area people on a GoPhone sim will get 30+.

I agree, it looks like straight talk people are working fine but maybe there are more. Considering the update just came out maybe more will come out of the wood works. Punit Soni is aware of this and so is Matt Jones, I'm talking to them via G+. I don't think it's an AIO issue because the data does in fact work (sometimes). But I have no idea...

Kirk Stromberg with Motorola has said that the builds out for the X do not "officially" support the APN settings for AIO Wireless and he will reach out to them on Monday to try to fix this.
I also have data currently after a reboot. I'm not switching back to WIFI for now and I still can't send MMS but until the KIT KAT build for the X supports the APN settings I really don't expect them to work.

Glad I found this post
I've been on WiFi since the KitKat update so I didn't notice that it had killed my AIO data connection until just a bit ago. Fortunately I found this post. I've tried all the suggestions, but after multiple reboots and removing/reinserting the SIM, I still have yet to get any data on AIO. I did notice that the APN settings appear to have some new options that weren't previously there (at least I don't think they were), but I've only tried a few of them. If I can't get this resolved soon I guess I'll have to downgrade to 4.2, bummer.
Update: I saw bpschoon's post with his settings right after I made my post. I removed the "APN type" setting and rebooted and now seem to have data. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not. I'll keep using the phone and rebooting regularly to see if it continues to work.

After a bit more playing around with it, I'm not even that lucky. When I first removed the APN type and rebooted, I had solid data. However, as soon as I enabled WiFi again, my data was broken and it seems to take multiple reboots to bring it back each time (i.e. it's not consistent).
I'm thinking there's just something in this update that isn't playing nicely with Aio.

No problems using Cataclysm and elementalX kernel, at home it says "wifi calling" on the quick tiles and when on a call. Maybe try a different modem? Or if rooted try a different kernel.

I was able to get it to work by flashing stock "shamu-mra58n-factory-bffc99bb" from Google. I flashed the bootloader, radio and system.

its a marshmallow radio
I'm running stock MRA58R, no root, fresh from the factory images. T-Mobile WiFi calling works perfectly.
I'm stock rooted, and it works, but I wouldn't say it works well. I even have a CellSpot at home and it's a little wonky. It doesn't seem to hold it's connection (wifi calling connection that is, wifi itself is fine).
I was at a cabin this past weekend where there is no T-Mobile signal and wifi calling didn't work for MMS at all. I was able to send normal SMS texts and stuff, but MMS (group messages) didn't come through at all. I didn't get all the messages until I was back on the interstate on the way back home.
Part of the reason I upgraded to the N6 from the N5 was because of wifi calling and it doesn't work all that well to be honest. I've had many times, even at home (cell spot router), where MMS messages fail to send. Receiving seems to be just fine, but sending seems to be problematic.
I bought my N6 from Amazon back when they were $350 new a month to six weeks ago, whenever that was, so it wasn't from T-Mobile directly, but that's not supposed to matter.

did you get your phone directly from tmo or elsewhere?
ive now tried every different radio without luck, doiuble checked every single setting to ensure everything was appropriate
called tmobile several times - everything is correct on their end
Do you have a E911 address on your T-Mo account? If not, add it to the account, and then try.
What is the exact error message?

i do have it set
"turn off airplane mode or connect to a wireless network to make a call"
is the message
when i try to use wifi calling with airplane mode on and connected to any wireless network
when im on the cellular network, it only uses celluar network, no HD calls and no WIFI calls
WiFi calling is working for me, except whenever its enabled it slows the WiFi way down. I ended up just getting the 4G LTE cellspot for $25 so I have really good Band 4 LTE signal for calls and can keep the WiFi running at full speed.

Are you using the TMO router too? When I asked at the store about the LTE CellSpot, they said I would have to turn in my router, as you can only have one or the other.

I don't have the router. And I do believe you can only use one or the other.
I already have a nice router so that wasn't a problem.
I have been very happy with the LTE cellspot I get full LTE signal in a pretty big house.

Thanks for the quick response! My TMO router was a big improvement to my previous one, and I don't see any slowdown when using WiFi calling with it, so I guess I'll just stick with what I have.

Can't Send MMS With wifi On

Just picked up a H811 to replace my H851 and am having MMS issues. Could not send or receive MMS and thought it was an APN issue as I'm on ATT. Finally figured out it's only happen if wifi is connected. If it's off MMS is fine. Of course I've tried pretty mush all the different APNs and most of the stock and modified stock ROMs on XDA and all are the same. Anyone have a clue?

As far as I know you need to be connected to mobile data to send MMS messages.

Yes that seems to be the issue, when wifi is connected it's blocking the cellular data connection so MMS can't send or receive. Not extremely happy with the performance as the only game I play is Flappy Bird and it seems laggy, even on the debloated ROMS and different Kernals. Had a Nexus 5X with the same CPU and no issue. Probably just return this phone but will miss the LG UI

OnePlus 7 Pro International Version & TMobile

Has anyone had any problems with using the International Version with TMobile? Did you have any issues? Wifi Calling and whatnot?

I only just made the switch today and I've been using it like the last 5-6 hours, so I can't really attest to signal strength away from home. That being said, my data speeds on LTE are consistent with what I had on the T-Mobile firmware (here at home), and WiFi calling may actually be working better now (not joking here, but again, very early here). VOLTE is working as it should as well. Call waiting is broken on T-Mobile, no matter what firmware you have... So this issue persists and it's known on the OnePlus Community forums.
I should also mention there is no quick setting to turn WiFi calling off (nor anything in the regular settings menu). Seems the only way to turn WiFi calling off would be to turn off WiFi, or use the log kit app (dialer code) to get into engineering settings.
Everything seems really good for me so far. I'll update in a day or so. When I go to work, my LTE download speeds break 100mbps... Let's see if that continues with the international firmware.

May I ask, where in the settings is that? I've done what I thought was a very thorough search, in the settings app and within the dialer app. Maybe I'm an idiot.
Edit: I finally found the WiFi calling settings in the dialer app. Still no quick setting tile for me however.

So I assume the qs tile isnt there after updating to international?
The native messaging app does not show the contact names.

I'm about to switch back to the international version as soon as I make a backup and copy it to my laptop. I don't remember if there was a quick setting tike for it or not. I don't use wifi calling so I didn't pay a lot of attention to see if there was a quick setting tile.

It's under Wi-Fi & Internet then select SIM & network settings then select SIM 1 and you will see it under enhanced communications

The international firmware does have *working* WiFi calling w/ T-Mobile, though the setting is kinda of hidden within the dialer app's settings menu (3 for button up at the top right, see screenshots). This is also where the VOLTE setting is found. Took me a while to find because there's like two different "SIM" settings menu, and I thought they were the same thing.
There is, however, NO quick settings tile. Perhaps an app like System UI Tuner or something similar could resolve that though.
