Odd issues. Friend's verizon moto x took the lollipop update and now she says, her front camera doesnt work. So I look, there is no button to switch to the front camera on the moto camera, just a video button (all her apps are up to date). So i download the google camera, and no button to switch. I looked at 3-4 camera apps, very odd. Maybe her actual camera sensor is borked? Anyone seen this? TIA

i just replaced the top speaker. So before i close the my phone i ran a few tests: screen, sound, usb, front camera, rear camera. The front camera is working fine with third party camera apps, but the rear camera is not working at all. The HTC camera app stays black, then crashes. Is it normal that the camera will not work as long as the back of the phone is open?

Rear camera of my moto x is not working, When I open the camera app only front camera is working and there's no button to switch to rear camera, I tried many camera apps and none of them shows button to switch to rear camera, front camera works fine with any app.

If you dont have option too switch camera, its hardware problem, change front camera or remove it, worst case is you have too change the camera ic, if its not cheap, enjoy selfie phone.
Hi, I want to do this thread to help me and other people with these problems. You know about which problem I am talking because last time there are many thread about this issue.
I think it is software problem.

SOLUTION! for back facing camera
I know it is weird but what you have to do is remove front facing camera and the rear one (also you have to separate battery!!!) and you have to turn on phone without front camera (the rear one you have to plug in). The rear one should have work now. Finally, you have to plug in front camera.
This worked for me, even when "hardware info" show that my phone don't have the rear camera.
Everytime I turn the camera on you can hear and see the lens open and close and you can hear the sound from it.. is this normal is anyone else experiencing this??
Yes its OIS and the aperture working.
Go to a dslr camera store and turn on a camera with IBIS. You will hear the same thing.

Updated my Moto G5S Plus to Oreo 8.1 a few days ago using the commands on XDA. All is working great however I have an issues with WhatsApp, isolated with its Camera.
When I try to do Video on the Rear camera for video it seems to "zoom" in and I cannot zoom out. Its like jumping to max zoom and getting stuck.
With the front camera it seems to be VERY dark, the preview I see when recording video looks good, however when it plays back before sending its almost 100% dark, as if the light was never on?
Ive tried disabling the default camera, reinstall whatsapp all the usual stuff. I would assume if this was a widespread issue with the Whatsapp or Oreo update there would be more threads on it however I cant find anything.
Anyone else had this issue?

i have this problem too
The problem I have is that messages do not arrive unless I enter the application. The camera thing happened to me only in a couple of occasions where I recorded and it seemed that I had zoomed but it happened to me in the camera application not in wasap.
