Hey guys,
I picked up a couple of handsets from Cricket when I was down in the US and I'm trying to carrier unlock them for family members.
The HTC Desire 510 and 626s.
I know this is the 510 thread so I'll be asking my questions about it. I understood this phone comes in 32 and 64 bit variants. not sure how to tell but since it's the Cricket variant, it's supposed to be GSM capable which also, from some searching, leads me to believe it is carrier unlockable albeit differently than the sprint/metro versions
Searching these forums got me to bootloader unlocking, which I've done for both handsets, but this is not of much use to me as I won't be rooting or flashing custom ROMs.
cheers!

So my last question is, does anyone have relevant information on how to do this? has that been documented?
thanks a bunch!

I answered the post you made in the other thread and it would be easier if you just stick to one place with your questions.

No it's cool I just don't want to bounce back and forth between threads with the same answers lol.

I am curious who would like to see a US ONLY CDMA ONLY htc one forum or perhaps sub-forum? I believe it would help organize and separate the US device from the International ones for clarity and ease of forum use.

I would also agree if the differences are that much of a problem. Ill be getting one from AT&T as a upgrade and if there is significant differences between unlocking and other types of things I don't want to be confused and asking if something works on US version of phone or not.

Thanks for your feedback. It's going to get really cluttered in this forum if they don't seperate stuff as the US launch is imminent.
Re: [Q] Who would like to see a US ONLY htc one forum?
They wouldn't separate the international and us one x+ even tho the ROMs were incompatible so I doubt this one will be separated

Re: [Q] Who would like to see a US ONLY htc one forum?
There are loads of other phones that don't have separate forums to distinguish different regions and frequencies....don't recall it being a problem before. ROM developers sorted things out just fine. If this is just because people don't want to have to sort through the different international release dates then that is a bit short sited thinking no?

We had issues in the past in the evo 3d forums where the cdma roms/themes/mods did not work on the gsm version and vice versa. I think it would at least be good to have seperate subforums for US/Carriers so that people dont flash gsm radios by mistake on their cdma versions and brick their phones. If the international version is the same as US T-Mobile and ATT then that can be one subforum with the other being for Verizon (if verizon gets its) and Sprint. So maybe a GSM vs CDMA subforums could work.

Excellent point.
Where do you have the information from that there will be a CDMA version of this phone? Can you link one, please?
Sprint is cdma only, so is Verizon of they get one.

I don't know when its coming out. I've read next week or may something... link to an article http://goo.gl/2lToZ
I'd suggest waiting till more information about the phone is available. If it is a redesign like the butterfly and DNA then a separate form. Else, i'd vote for a sub forum. Whatever makes most people happy.
I don't care how you do it but it needs to be done, I'm tired of wading through the international topics/discussion just to find the few US relevant info.
Yeah, should definitely happen.
If necessary, you can bring up the forums that have been split to the site managers, like the 2 s3 forums for the different carriers as well as the international s3 being separated from the carrier specific one
You could tell them that its to prevent bricks from flashing roms, which depending on how its set up will most likely be an issue anyway
Basically i agree, +1 on this
I'm all for a subforum! Maybe not necessarily a separate forum, since I think the majority of "discussion" will be pretty unified, as the device itself is similar when not focusing on radios in specific.
Something like this will probably happen in the future. I've seen it for the majority of other devices, at least.

Right on Sprint's website.
Sprint is a US carrier that ONLY operates on CDMA. Like the EVO 3D, it was EXTREMELY nice to have GSM & CDMA forums separate as flashing stuff on the wrong hardware could brick it in a second.
While having a separate CDMA section might be ok (depending on if the roms are in fact incompatible), I think the AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus & international variants should share the same section.
I see the forum titled "HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity" but all the subforums mention Vivid only which led me to this question since after some time searching inside the forum the answer still isn't clear to me. I hope this topic can be of use to others.
Thanks in advance.
They are interchangeable for everything but RUU's unless you are s-off with supercid

I have been flashing my phones for years, I was thinking of buying and HTC but apparently everyone here is so kind that I already moved on with the idea. Of course it makes a lot of sense to make the important information for HTC beginners (because, after all, you're mentioning things HTC-specific since this isn't how all the other brands work) spread across dozens of posts in dozens of threads instead of in one simple place, for someone to do the reading you suggest. Best regards

It isn't xda-usegoogle as well. With your reasoning, XDA would serve nothing since you could probably find the same content somewhere else using google.
The fact is that the information just isn't there and me, as many people, probably will leave the idea of buying such a device if they can't find that kind of information without searching for days.
If your intention is not to share knowledge, you have no place in a forum like this.
I will try to help, because the OP asked the questions pretty clearly and politely (and wasn't like some of the posts on here - "hurrr how do i root my phone, tell me now kthx"). I also agree that having info scattered everywhere is not the easiest for people to navigate. And let's face it - not every post in this forum is crystal clear for all. Once the info/methods/files have been established, what is the harm in trying to put it all together? I enjoy the hunt for the information - That's why I've kept a file/info archive for every phone I've messed with.
Custom ROMs should work between all 3 (Vivid/Raider/Holiday). I don't believe any custom roms have been made specifically for one model.
RUU's will not. An RUU is a stock rom. It contains all of the stock partitions like radio, system, etc.). It pretty much returns a phone to stock (based on whatever carrier it is for, I believe - so carrier bloatware will be included). I believe that if you have unlocked the bootloader (for whatever reason), an RUU will refuse to flash. The bootloader will need to be re-locked in order for you to be able to flash the RUU.
When the RUU is run, it checks the "CID" of your phone. If your "CID" doesn't match the RUU , it will likely refuse to flash. You probably don't want to flash random RUU's to your phone anyway. But if you live on the edge you can change the CID of your phone. I think it's like... 1111111 or something. This is called the "SuperCID" - any Vivid/Raider/Holiday RUU will flash. At your own risk, of course! I remember doing SuperCID on my Bell HTC Raider, so I could flash the Rogers RUU to it. There are barely any differences between our 2 main carriers in Canada, so it flashed and worked fine for me.
To change your CID - I believe you will have to have the ultimate access to your phone (meaning, S-OFF your phone). Your phone will be open to flashing pretty much any code to any partition, and it will be easy to brick if you flash something inappropriate.

THANK YOU! Finally someone with good judgement. I don't usually do this but since you took the time to elaborate such a clear and thought through answer I'd like to take some time to thank you in writing. I did not like the way the thread was going, in fact I regret the spam created and fear that it won't promote the very useful content you have just provided. I'll try to get in touch with staff to try and get this done and in the meantime if you're more familiar with the process I encourage you to do the same, thanking you in advance for that aswell. I hope the community can benefit from threads like this and encourage everyone to share and clarify other terms if they feel like so.
Cheers!

While you have been decent about your inquire, you are incorrect on your assumption of XDA.
This was created as a Development site. While over time we have added sections such as Q&A, it has never been based on answering users questions.
BTW, when I searched Google this was the second hit using the criteria of your OP
Now that this has been answered. I have close the thread.
Please excuse my ignorance, but what is that section all about?
I see Venom Rom and custom kernels. I see different sections for different carriers already, so what is that one for?
Is that section for ALL carriers?
Pretty much what it says. It's a general forum, mostly for the international version and there's some scattered in there for U.S. carriers but pretty much just gsm variants. There are some mods said to work on all variants. Some are clearly broken down and labeled in the OP, but some you gotta search and read every post to see if anyone asked if it'll work on Sprint (or other) and see if there's an answer. I keep going thru it myself getting itchy to flash something. I came from the evo LTE and got into this whole root thing 8 months after that phones release so there was already plenty of development going on. This is my fist phone seeing it from the beginning, and with a model on every carrier. The evo was specific to Sprint so all development was just for that phone, made it much simpler lol.

That tool works but not for our 510s really... It's super easy and fast just to root the phone yourself because some of my friends tried that and it didn't work but in the process it did something to the boot and we weren't able to unlock it the easy way so I suggest you just use a computer and fastboot to do it.
for our 510s?
which carrier or not the us version?
the phone is on cricket not virgin mobile.
if you look at cricket please be tech savy their phone support is worse than republic wireless's phone support.(youd be better off without crickets support provided they dont hang up on you.)

It doesn't matter what carrier you're on all of the HTC Desire 510s are the same except for the 64 bit ones. You don't have to take my advice, I'm just trying to save you some trouble but if you think that program is gonna unlock your phone and everything go for it, just don't come asking me why it screwed your phone up!! You can ask anyone around on here that knows me, I'm trying to keep you from messing up but like I said you don't have to take my advice!
Edit: I don't have cricket service so I don't care how bad their support is this has nothing to do with that... And if you're asking if I'm tech savvy.... LMAO, HAHA! That made my night man!!
actualy i was checking to see if the programs unlock scripts were upto date.
the desire 510 is listed but as a lg volt owner i know scripts need to be updated regularly.
advice given is always a good thing.
token retrival complete using program no issues!
Ok so I have derived that my phone is what I believe to be the Hanna variant through searching on Google . But I am unclear as to what to use for root and recovery here. Because all Hanna version list as cricket metro PCs or TMobile variants and I have boost Mobile variant XT1924-8. I can figure out the rest if someone will just ask my stupid question for me.
im on james models, a tmobile variant and a metro variant (same 1921-) but i flash same roms to both (both are gsm though.)
that being said; I have flashed cdma variant (vzw/sprint/BOOST) and i had no signal even after doing a network reset.
so I do not THINK the cdma vs gsm roms can cross flash. I may be wrong, just stating what I've experienced when I tried it.

CDMA and gsm are completely different networks. It's like trying to connect Xfinity cable through a dish Network satellite dish.
For future reference.
How vol down and power until you land in the bootloader and there you'll find your variant if you're unsure..
thanks for reviving a 3month old dead thread to ACTHACTULLY it up... You are an honor and a gentleman, thank you for explaining the difference between the two technologies in clear in concise terms.... (Oh wait you really didn't add any new information or explain anything, all you did is revive a 3month almost 4 thread to reiterate the obviously inferred information that the radios are different, hence the reasons the cross flash does not work. BUT OBVIOUSLY someone as cultural, artistic and intelligent as yourself would have caught that already right? RIGHT...
He obviously knew his variant was 1924, so thanks for mansplaining how to get into bootloader... As if any one asked..
For future reference, 1924 is Hannah based and 1921 are James.... Make sure variant is right for your antenna and sim.

First of all, the dude said he thinks he has his varient from trying to figure it out on Google.
The bootloader literally tells you exactly which device you have.
No need for Google lol
And the reason I answered an old thread (and made it clear that I see it's old) is because there are a million unanswered questions on here!
