Hi all,
Just got myself a Note 5 a week ago. First Samsung device I've owned.
Can anyone tell me am I missing something, or is there no way to have the LED Notifications toggle on and off with Do Not Disturb mode?
Having the option to turn off the LED is great, but It seems completely stupid to not be able to switch off the LED automatically at night (putting the phone upside down to block it isn't an option as I use a wireless charger).
Thanks

I opened a thread for the same thing and have not found a solution other than manually turning the LED off at night. I don't know why this was removed as it was previously part of "blocking mode"
I wish that existed but maybe they will add that in a future update.
It amazes me that Android still hasn't figured out that people don't want to be disturbed while they're sleeping.
Thanks for the replies guys!

What I don't understand is why they took this away. I have attached a screenshot from my Note 3 that had blocking mode and there was a toggle for the LED...why did that not remain an option?!?
It seems like such a fundamental option doesn't it? lol
That is probably the priblem...it is too fundamental
Use Light Flow and their sleep function. Works great.

This LightFlow app vucks up the notifications on the Samsung Galagy S7. USELESS!!!
The only way I found to do this is use tasker. I use the following plugin to turn off led. The same task will turn on my do not disturb. Basically I have a task set up that activates with power and between 9pm and 7 am. I go to sleep early.

Hello I realized that the phone backlight stays on and does not go sleep when ICS is in use. How do i make the backlight shutoff while keeping ICS in use. I wanted to know this to save battery life? Thanks
Umm, have you tried pressing the power/suspend button? ;-)
If that doesn't work, you'll need a 3rd party app, like Pocket Plus, that provides such functionality...
power/suspend button doesn't work, it just disconnects ICS. Is there another way of doing this without downloading pocket plus? Reg edit or something?
does anyone know a solution to this?
flip the phone over?
to save battery; dont' u just hate a smart kid
errr, it's usually plugged in if yer doing that. if by smart you mean intelligent, then yes.
Well if im tethering ICS using wifi or bluetooth then it wont be plugged in, the backlight stays on and kills more battery.
right, that's why i said usually. The ICS is killing the battery even more than the light, so most people will have a phone-USB to computer or wall charger, or run out of juice fast anyway.
Use this app that I just posted a few minutes ago for someone else. It's in this thread, post #3 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339469.

This still does not work. If i use this app it does turn off the backlight but then ICS gets disconnected still... Does anyone have a solution to this?
Try psSHutXP (freeware) found here: http://ppcsoft.narod.ru/english/
The main App adds a soft reset, shut down, and lights off switch. Once run it adds a new Shortcut called Display which will turn off the LCD (just like the "lights off" in the main app.
I added the Display shortcut to my Launcher, and a double tap will turn off the display. Power button turns it back on.
It was made so you can still keep apps running while the LCD is off. Give it a go.
There used to be an option to turn off the notification LED on blocking mode so that it didn't light up your room while sleeping. It appears that is no longer an option. Does anyone know of a solution to be able to disable the LED for specific hours each day? I tried Lightflow, but had some issues with it and there was not an option to set specific hours. Thanks in advance!
I don't think the LED is that bright to "light up your room".....
If it bugs you that much, turn it face down, or put something over the LED to cover just that one part of the phone.

LOL! Easy fix. Cut her eyes out. Then ask her which did she like more, the ability to see or not? I'm sure she will say sight, but then you give her the bad news that you can't fix her blindness due to you not being a doctor (unless you are, then operate).
To fix your problem though, try Settings > Accessibility > Notification Reminder > LED Indicator
Hope that works.
Have you tried "do not disturb" in your toggle buttons? Says it'll silence calls & notifications, not sure if it will disable led. Ultra power saving mode might also disable led.

I have tried do not disturb and it does not turn off the LED for me. I have not tried ultra power saving mode. I am, however, hoping for something more automated based on time. Thanks for the response.

Wow...that escalated quickly :-0
Thank you for the recommendation, but I actually want the LED on during the day and just off at night. It was a setting on my previous Samsung devices...just appears to be another thing removed, for some reason

Guess the Do Not Disturb option is your only bet. Hopefully it works.
try sleep for android...it has a feature of Do not disturb whenever you have sleep tracking on. So when you sleep just set that as an alarm and it will put the phone to do not disturb
I know you said you had problems with lightflow app but have you tried the light manager app? Works really well for me since they did the fix for 5.1.1.

I have time triggered profiles which are working fine every time. For example set the wifi on at the morning.
I have profiles from the Tasker wiki to tun on wifi when I am at home, however if my screen is off for a longer time they are not working. So I turn on the screen and after that I see that my wifi is turning on if I am at home.
So this misbehaving is related to offscreen state for sure.
I have CM13 on my OnePlus One.
I have the same problem. it seems the system goes into deep sleep and cannot scan or connect to Wi-Fi from it, although Tasker does turn Wi-Fi on.
I tried to work around by making it vibrate 1 seconds before turning on Wi-Fi, but it's still not very reliable....
Any suggestions?

Turn the screen on for a second and turn it off again.
If Tasker can't do it by itself, the Secure Settings plugin can do it.

so there is no other way than to turn the screen on? I don't really want to do this, since the phone might accidentally do something when this happens and it is the pocket

Exclude Tasker from any battery saving feature of your phone.

it is already 'not optimized', the only thing left is the integrated power saving feature of Tasker itself, but I want to keep it as it is.
The phone is not locked, so when the screen is on, it might accidentally do something in the pocket.
In terminal emulator, type this:
su
dumpsys deviceidle whitelist +net.dinglisch.android.taskerm
Should be good to go... [emoji6]
Edit: fixed package name for Tasker

may I ask what this does? excluding tasker from battery optimization isn't the same thing?
It adds Tasker to the list of apps excluded from Doze... I believe "optimized" refers to App Standby...which is different from Doze.

I have a task at "device boot" dumpsys deviceidle disable shell command. This completely disables doze. I added a led notification to the profile which contexts become true if am at home. One of the context is cell near GSM but this profile doesn't switch to active if I arrive at home and my screen is turned off. Once I turn my screen on it starts to work.
What could be the problem?

There is an option in Tasker which turn on the screen when performing cell near checks, I have enabled it now it is working perfectly but I would more happy if I wouldn't have to enable that option because of battery usage.

Sec settings did not work for me neither
So, is there any work around for this issue?
So after many years with iPhone I decided to jump back to Android this year with a Galaxy Note 8 and I need some help.
No matter what I try I can't seem to get lockscreen notifications to turn the screen on so that I can see them. I hear the notification sound but unless I manually turn the screen on nothing happens.
I've checked and rechecked all the settings both within apps and in phone settings but still no joy.
I have my iPhone and the Note 8 side by side on my desk and the iPhone lights up each time I get a notification but my Note 8 just plays the notification sound I set for a particular app.
Is this something that just isn't possible? Or should I be seeing the screen light up when notifications come in?
Thanks!!

I didn't but I just turned it on to see if that changes anything. And just to be very clear, the notifications are there it's just that the screen doesn't come on for me to see them.
On mine they come on the screen automatically. And I can read them there.....but for me the issue I don't how to control how long the screen stay on.
I noticed stay on for about 1 minute and then ont AOD display comes back. Not sure where in the settings I can change how long they stay on.
My regular screen time out is set to 15 seconds. So that's not what it's going by.
Meanwhile I've found two apps which can change things "Glimpse Notifcations" which is free and has forum here at XDA and also Nils which are very good.
BUt I'd rather not use an app....
For OP, notifications settings are found in many different places. Make sure you turn them on all of them...and in advanced you can even point which notificatons show contents.

Make sure you click in the middle of the setting line subject to access more options...
Meaning Settins, > Lock screen and Security > Notifications....Do not just toggle this setting ON on this screen.... please touch on Notificatons title to access sub menu... where you have now more options..... ON , Hide Cotent..., Icons Only and All Apps and the list of apps...
Now make sure there you have Hide Conntent to OFF. and Notification ICon Only OFF......
Let me know if you find the way to make Notification stay longer on the lock screen then the 1 minute default I"m experiencing
I have been searching looking for way to make this work with no solution.
I have disabled AOD since it is consuming battery heavily and wanted notifications to behave as on stock android where they turn screen on. My note 8 is receiving notifications and LED turns on, but screen doesn't. I have to manually turn it on to be able to see the lockscreen notification.
Is there any way to make this work?

I use "Dynamic Notifications". It lights up notifications when screen is locked. There's a certain amount of customisation, including screen on time. Used it on many of my phones including Note 8.
Wait.. You want the screen to turn on for every notification?
I hate that... Some apps even ignore the settings either way.

Same here, that would drive me nuts if the screen turned on for every notification. It's bad enough the screen turns on everytime the phone is plugged in/unplugged from USB or from a wireless charger.

Thanks. The rom I'm using is actually supposed to have that disabled but I don't think it works for wireless charging, only cable. I never never charge with the cable anymore. But whatever, I prefer not to install apps just to disable one minor thing.
I understand you, I also prefer wireless, but, it works with wireless too
There must be a build prop tweak or something but I can't seem to find one right now.
Maybe a PM to a nice dev and they could tell you where to look. Report for community if you figure it out
