Recently my X1 cannot be charged with USB cable through wall outlet & even car charger , but able to charge with USB cable through PC.
Anyone do encounter the same problem?
Well that's a strange one - how long was it connected to the wall?
Without getting into the discussion about volts and amps provided, and amps drawn by the phone, any method should charge.
In terms of speed, I would think the wall would charge fastest (see above), and the USB slowest.
Did the phone show on the top bar, the charging icon when attached to the wall? Or after a period of time there was no increment in the % charge showing??
If the battery was down to 0%, you probably wouldn't see an immediate increase in the % charge. The % charge is orientative, especially at both ends of the scale.

I do agree with you. Charging with wall outlet is faster. Therefore, normally I'm charging my X1 with wall outlet, unless in office, will use PC USB.
Top bar never show charging icon, but once I charge it with PC USB, the charging icon show up immediately.
It seems like no power for the USB when connected to the wall outlet. I've tested with battery removed, plugged in USB cable connected to wall outlet, there is no charging illumination light. I cannot power on it.
I tried to recall, it happened after I used a USB charger for my MP3 player. The next day, when I tried to charge with car charger. To my surprise, the USB connection notification showed up (I do remember, while charging with wall outlet or car charger, it will never prompt me for USB connection).
I don't think, it is the ROM issue. Try a few ROM still having the same problem.
From now, I got to live with PC USB :|
X1 Charging problem
I have same problem. I can not charge via both USB-PC and Wall. In order to charge the phone, I have to switch it off and then charge it.
This happened after I used CHEAP car charger from dealexteme.com
Now everytime I want to charge my phone, I have to switch it off.

I'm using the original SE charger!? I would not think the problem with the charger, but my X1 was screwed by the incompatible MP3 USB charger
Yep same with me, not sure why mine started doing that though, I never got used a cheap charger. Maybe its the rom... I am trying a new one now.

it's not caused by the ROM, I'm very sure. I've installed different ROM. The problem still exist.
I am having a similar problem. When the phone completely discharges , i am unable to charge it with any power adapter or even car charger. I have to initially charge the phone using a PC , then after the power is around 15% , then the phone gets charged with a normal adapter.. any suggestions??
same problem. It happends when the battery is completely discharged.
what I do is use a charger w/ low amp rating (.1) and plug it in for at least 10-20min. Give it some time, it will start charging after a while (indicated by the blinking lights). After that, you can turn it on and charge it normally
I had a similar problem twice. Both times I solved it by replacing the charger.
the same happen to me and i have another issue
my xperia doesnt work as usb mass storage!!!
the solution was buying another charger but..the usb mass storage issue still not working as a flash drive!!

It works with Z1 too. Thanks a lot!
I guess something goes wrong with battery controller
I'm looking for an extra charger for my nc. What I need to know is what is the mah output of the stock changer so I can get one that had the same rating. Our can someone link me to a cheap stock charger.
The output is 5volts / 1.9 Amperes.
Edit, it is written on the charger btw, you could probably have checked that your self .
Where can I get a charger with the same specs? I don't want to spend $20 but if I have to I will just buy another stock one.
I have a 5v 700mah charger that I bought for my phone. Will that work or is the rating to low?
That will work, it just wont charge as fast...

FYI: I tried using my HTC usb charger with the nook usb cable and it will not charge. The charging light flickers.
Thats what I'm worried about
There is this cable from boxwave with a dongle off the end that you are supposed to use to charge from USB chargers. Why would anyone need this?

It is charging, just not as fast and the device doesn't notify you of it. HTC usb wall plug chargers are usually 5volts and 1amp, the nook requires 1.9 amps to charge properly.
/mr
There are no spec listed for that charger so it could be a 700mah or it could be a 1.9a charger.
How many of you guys recommending underpowered chargers actually have any electronics background?
The nook charges when connected to a usb socket on a computer, which provides 500ma as a high power device. So your 1000ma charger is twice as good as using a computer.
In order to get 1900 ma, the nook isn't using stock usb stuff in the charger... but normal usb works just fine because, well, the standard requires it to...
4000 mAh battery should charge fully in 2 hours on the nook charger, 4 hours on the htc charger, or 8 hours on a computer...

Good to note that there's a bug on the NC that makes it appear that it's not charging, when connected via USB connection, but it really does charge.
regular micro usb chargers from cell phones will charge the nook even when it says it's not charging.

The NC will charge from my Droid's power adaptor even though it does not show it to be working. It will take a lot longer to charge with a standard 0.5A USB power adaptor.
In theory, it should take about 4 times as long to charge from standard USB instead of the B&N charger.

It does work. It's just charging slow so you can't necessarily tell. Also. There will be no indicators on the nook to show that it is charging but i'm pretty sure it is. Leave it plugged in overnight and see.
2A rated USB adapter for under $10: http://www.madvapes.com/2-amp-AC-to-USB-Adapter-ideal-for-Passthroughs_p_2357.html
I own one and can confirm it works perfectly.
Laptop have smart battery manager to change a/c (when plug in power) and battery when haven't power, so haven't been charged and discharged => not low level . But have nook color smart battery manager ?
Nook color can use 8 hours , if i use more, I will charge it twice a day , I want plug it in power when I am at home
If you use the supplied cable and charger, it will allow fast charging and then automatically stop charging when it is full so you won't damage the battery.
If you use a different charger or cable, it will charge much slower.
Mine won't charge with another cable and plug besides the one it came with. Phone can't charge with NC plug and cable. Is it supposed to to be able to charge with a lower power adapter like the one for my phone?

Apparently you have to shut the Nook down for it to charge with a regular USB cable. That's because a regular cable won't supply enough power to charge the device while it is running. The fact that it will charge at all under these circumstances is an unadvertised feature.

The supplied charger is 1.9 amp. A regular charger is 1 amp. A phone car charger is. 5 amp. That's why if you use the NC charger it's faster.

I want this information in barnesandnoble.com , not fast or slow
the book that comes with the nook states that when the light turns green that it is fully charged and now supplying power to the nook and not the battery (so your battery does not discharge and you can use your nook still), i'm not sure how much more proof you want than this.
As for other chargers, if you get the micro USB Type B (I believe is what it's called), it will charge fast still and SHOULD have auto shut off (since that's built into the nook).
Hello there,
Its a but weird but hey this is something very normal for the 2x I think. When I plug in the phone to the pc, this will identify the phone and all that, but it will not charge. I have tried different USB slot and other PCs but nothing happens. On Power the phone will charge as normal. I have also down a calibration of the battery..
Anyone?
I just had the same thing happen to me. I'm glad I read about your wall charger suggestion . Then I read about another person who pulled their battery out and long pressed the power button to clear any risidual charge, I did that and when I turned back on it had gone from 1% to 5%. This was after useing 'battery calibrator' which deletes that file. I also have battery monitor widget and wonder if it conflicts, I think I entered a random number when it asked me the wall chargers ampage. Who knows it charges from computer again. My mother had a problem similar on her nokia, she let the charge get to low and they had to 'shock' the battery into life.
- actually if you have the mode where the screen stays on then the phone might just consume all the power.
-nope, seems wall charger is super fast and computer is slow, maybe usb just doesnt have as many amps
check your usb cable, cheap china cable have problem with charging
I got another cable, GOLD!, and did more testing, its a slow charge on computer and charge goes down when playing counter-strike. Charge goes up on wall socket when playing CS. The charger says it puts out 1A and im sure that more than what my laptop USB puts out, maybe I'll try it with my desktop.. debug mode did nothing to change the effects.
Hey guys, I just bought my One a couple weeks ago and I'm loving it so far. However, I'm having an issue with the USB charging speed.
I know USB charging speed is slower than wall charging speeds, but the speeds I have been getting are ridiculous. To charge my phone from 0-100 takes about 9 hours over USB when the phone is in sleep mode and not being used. Can anyone else tell me if they're getting the same kind of extremely slow USB charging speeds? Is this normal for the phone? I've been thinking about replacing it and seeing how the next one fares.
I'm charging in usb 3.0 port and takes 5h

I haven't timed it, but yes USB charging is very slow in general and especially on this phone. I've had several HTC Ones, and had the same experience.

Some Kernels have an option for fast charge which is supposed to help with it but certain usb ports only put out a certain amount of power. Also I know a problem with the OG note was with fast charge enabled a few charging ports burnt out (mine included). It was easy to replace them on that phone but this one will be more difficult if it does the same thing.
The problem is that the phone sees the difference between an AC charger and a usb charger. With an AC charger it can charge with a maximum around 850mA while with an USB charger it charges with an maximum of 500mA.
There properbly is a trick how to make the phone think it's on AC charger, while it's actually on an USB charger, and therefore charge with a higher current, but I haven't found out how yet.

Depends on the current battery level of the phone. Anything above 83%(somewhere around there), even on AC charger it will slow down to 500mAh at most.
