I recently tried to update recovery via "TWRP Recovery" app from the Play Store. I now know that this was not the correct way to do this as the KK & LP bootloaders have to have recovery "bumped." As of right now, I get an error whenever I try to boot into recovery. Phone works just as it did before but I would like to know how I could get my recovery back. Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated. - Thanks!
Currently running BlissPop v3.9 w/ stock kernel.

I am still not able to get to my recovery after trying this method. I am getting a "Secure Booting Error." Should I delete the recovery that I already have on the SD Card and try to flash again?

Download the OTA package here
Rename it to update.zip, and place it on the root of your internal storage
Shut down your phone, and reboot into the bootloader by holding volume up and powering back on
Choose "recovery" from the list, and select it with the power button
When you see the red triangle press volume up and choose to update

IF YOU ARE ON CWM:
Just got an Android 2.3.1 update for Nexus S. It's on ROM manager if you want it. Make sure you flash recovery 3.0.
Also, for this to work you must be on Stock Recovery. This will not flash properly if you are using clockwork recovery

Correct. Koush is currently looking at fixing this for CWM.
Can we try to update and flash the zip using adb?
This was just tweeted:

edit nevermind got update
I just got prompted OTA for this update. Anyone know it I was to accept it, would I have any problems since I changed my recovery to ClockWork recovery?
I know it's been said it's on rom manager now, I am just curious if there would be any potential problems of accepting OTA updates with the stock recovery gone.
I have cwm recovery flashed and looked in Rom manager but is getting that "the rom you are using does not support ota updates etc" How did you manage to get Rom manager to update it to GRH78??
ive tried every way listed on xda but still get a "error 7" when trying to flash the update. i am using stock rom with clockwork 3.0. anyone having the same issue or any way to fix it?

How did you get it to download? I hope Koush gets CWM to play nice with the updates.

Well there is very little info in OP
and could be worded little better to avoid confusion
You have to put on Wifi and go to download ROM for some reason if you on on mobile network it wont show the update in rom manager
Dont bother it wont. From what i gathered we have to wait for modified version
Download the zip, choose to open with rom manager and it will flash fine with cw recovery 3.0.0.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App

Got great news! I got it to work! All I did was put the .zip file on the root of my sd and used Rom manager to "download rom" chose the .zip file and voila!! It installed everything fine. I am officially on GRH78. Hope that helps people out!
is this with the paid version or non-paid?
the CWM update will work of you have not used Koush's rooboot.img and are running a the rooted boot.img.
He said he will release a version later tonight that should work with rootbootimg installed as well.
glad im on stock recovery + root.

I am having the same issue, I was able to root it without any issues. Installed GooManager but the App itself is force closing or it get stucks in "Installing Recovery Image" when I reboot into recovery I still get the standard recovery and not TWRP.
Now my question is since I have SU, would it be easier to just get Rom Manager and install CWM then flash TWRP off of it? Any suggestions appreciated.

Sound like your last paragraph will work... Or just flash CWM through Odin then flash TWRP trough CWM.
sent from my T-mo Note
Or twrp through odin?

That is what I did and it did the trick.
Try as I might, I just couldn't get mine to work through Goo manager either. Finally, flashed CWM through Odin, flashed TWRP zip for T879 through CWM and I was good to go.
Had the same troubles.. Finally got it installed by following the dd method on the teamwin page. OK, can't post a link but google "sgh-t879 twrp". They list several alternate methods of installation.
"Download - DD Method:
You can use adb or terminal emulator to install the following image:
...
adb push openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.1-sgh-879.img /sdcard
adb shell dd if=/sdcard/openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.1-sgh-879.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22"
would someone point me to the step-by-step for this? I have odin running but it shows blue... I'll figure that out - what I need is how to get CWM loaded & running correctly.

Can you be a little more specific? It would really help others trying to help you. If that makes sense.
What happened? Did you flash TWRP over CWM, or vice-versa? Can you not access any sort of recovery?
I would try installing TWRP through this guide
Also, did you install a ROM before this? Did you flash an incorrect modem?
If you did, and don't have a recovery, I recommend checking the link above.
Thank you,
Stephen

We figured it out.
We followed the guide found here: VERIZON ONLY Revert to stock GUIDE [UPDATED] - xda-developers
I hope that anyone who comes across this thread will be able to resolve this issue with having access to only fastboot.
(Restoring access to download mode via this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2681089)
I had a similar encounter playing around with my G2....If you know how to restore to 100% stock VZW VS-980 firmware its a whole lot easier to get things back n moving. their are a couple methods but this is the one I approve of to be the best one

Hi Guys,
I have s3 GT-I9305, android version 4.1.2, baseband version I9305XXBLL5. Australian model for Optus.
I successfully rooted and installed Philz_Touch_6.19.3 _ After that I could do Nandroid online backup and confirm it is rooted.
When I tried to flash custom ROM today - I found I can't boot in CWM/Philz recovery mode. Then I tried to different version of Philz/CWM and TWRP but none worked. It keeps booting in stock recovery mode- I get message as shown in attached image.
PS: I have USB diagnosis checked but haven't unlocked boot loader?
to be specific: my phone works fine - boots fine - It is just I want to load custom rom and it won't go to custom recovery and I can't load custom ROM.
Thanks.
HELP!
can anyone please help me out here!
I kept searching and found some solution but none worked.
I used triangle away. - didn't work
Installed custom recovery without checking auto reset and started after pulling battery out. - didn't work
It still boot in odin mode and I can't go to custom recovery
i have the same problem too when i got my phone flashed 3rd recovery last year,
the stock recovery can automaticly restore itself after reboot~
but i found the solution here in xda, just flash a zip to unlock the self-protection of the stock recovery~
i will tell you the link and the attachment several hours later after my work,if you cannt wait, you can search it here, maybe you can find it yourself.

I had a quick search but couldn't find it. Will greatly appreciate if you can post link.
Thanks
even after you flash a custom recovery...your phone will automatically flash stock recovery every time it reboots...so that's why you will get into stock even if you flash CWM/TWRP or what you like.....
here is the solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-cf-root-cwm-recovery-ported-supersu-t1914394
read at the end of the first post....WORKAROUND......
i used myself and worked....

the guy offered the post which included the solution.
try to flash the "Remove-boot-recovery.p.zip",it will work..
good luck
:fingers-crossed:
Done
Thanks guys.
Above solution didn't work for me but I got it working through rom manager App. I reboot to recovery through ROM Manager and it worked.
How ever After I installed Pacman rom, I couldn't use App as there were no Gapps and wouldn't boot to recovery. The workaround here was to press home, volume up and lock button simultaneously and release it after few second and it will go to custom recovery.
In the end, I am on Pacman Nightly 06/04/2014 with Philz touch recovery.
I have correctly installed the custom recovery onto my X1063, however the recovery will not work. I can get into it, but if I try to install a rom or do a backup it fails and reboots. Has this happened to anyone else? And how do you fix it? Thank you!

That's very vague. Which recovery (including version)? Please describe your steps exactly. Also post exactly the error messages.
