My phone was lost and I administered an android device manager lock I have went in the manager and changed the password several times as well as entered it on my device which as since been recovered by the person who had it in their possession. I do not want to have to master reset I do not have my current information backed up as of date, so I would be losing quite a bit of information. Is there anything I can do I called T-mobile the so called tech said wait 72 hours that sounded like bs that the phone would magically start accepting the passwords entered. The message being given to me by google is that a password lock was already on the phone which is not correct I never had a password lock screen on the phone prior to losing it. I also was not signed into the samsung account portal so can't use their unlock feature is there any software here I can download maybe reflash firmware that won't effect my current data but remove the lock screen? Let me know thanks.
If I can't get the lock off I'm most concerned with getting my pictures off I tried hooking the phone up the my pc but it shows the folder as empty because the phone is locked are there any recovery programs on here or like that can get the DCIM folder off the phone.
Are you rooted?
No I am not. I can root the phone if that will help to either remove the lock or get the pictures or content off but I'll need to be pointed in direction on how to do that haven't done that before in quite a while!

Visit this link which explains how to root your phone. It's a very easy process and should take only a few minutes.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...y-steps-n910t3-dofc-dog1-how-to-root-t3177225
Ok after rooting and I hope those options were already selected, because I literally have no ability to access the phone at all as I said the device is full locked, then which programs will I need to recover the data or has anyone developed an overide to remove the lock? Thanks again sorry this is a wide spread issue for what ever reason the passwords do not seem to register they just say incorrect each time reset.
I also have a T-mobile Note 4 910T phone
Can I only do steps 1-5 if I do not plan on adding a custom rom? and do I need both the kitkat and lolipop files as the kitkat file is not loading from the file server to download
Install TWRP recovery to your phone. Then install a custom Rom, make sure you don't wipe internal card. Once you install and boot up in New Rom, you would be able to connect to your pc and retrieve all your important data and pictures.
Ok after I recover all of that how then would I be able to return to original factory firmware and not custom rom would a factory reset suffice or where is the original firmware located thanks. I'll be following the steps and flashing a rom. Hope it all goes as planned thanks.
You would need to flash back Stock tar file COG2 or DOG1 based on your phone model using ODIN if you want to go back to stock.

Thanks everything is rooted I am on step six with the SD card fix, here's the problem my pc recognizes the phone now and I can view the contents of the internal card, but when I go to cop the sd card fix file to the internal storage of my phone it basically disconnects and won't transfer the file and only shows the external sd card I have in my phone. I'm pretty angry as this is the last step keeping me from flashing to a custom rom and getting my pics and files why is it disconnecting the storage?
I was able to solve that issue by using the move feature on TWRP now which rom should I use and how do I install the rom sorry for the stupid questions just want to get this done flash back to stock and move on from this nightmare.
Unfortunately Now I have a major problem I tried flashing a rom and I don't know what the hell happened, but the phone is now telling me I don't have an operating system and is in a constant reboot also tells me it doesn't appear the phone is rooted even after I went back and rooted the phone again I followed the exacts steps on flashing the rom and now I have no operating system now and still have no access to my pictures I'm beyond frustrated it shouldn't be this difficult.

Holy **** dude is this widespread ? because I also have been locked out of my device which never had a pin the sametime as you, friday september 18. And my device manager also doesn't work. I have an unrooted Note 4 tmobile with important wedding pictures that I have not yet cloud-backed up yet. So factory data reset is not an option
I also will need to follow in your footsteps in rooting the phone and downloading twrp, but please update me on how your progress is going.
I know how frustrated you feel, this has taken up my entire weekend now, and I see a long frustrating road ahead of me.

What is your phone model? is it SM-N910T or SM-N910T3? You can see model no under the battery.
Got my photos back, yaaayy
Warning this is only for people with Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM-N901T TMobile.
This is how I did it.
Step 1. Root your phone using Odin by follwing the below link, use the current kernel and download the Samsung drivers and the cf-root and the twrp and follow the directions but skip the SD card write fix because you won't be able to do it if you are locked out of your phone anyways.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...sy-steps-stock-odin-n910tuvu1anih-cf-t2903733
Step 2. Buy a new SD card about $10 at walmart with SD adapter(most SD cards come with one free of charge.)
Step 3. On your PC Download the below file (NOTE: you will be copying this file unto your SD card before inserting it into your locked device.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3026536&d=1416578598
Step 4. Either borrow a phone that has SD capability or use the adapter and plug it into your computer's SD adapter slot. Then copy and paste the file you downloaded onto the SD card.
Step 5. Turn your phone off and insert the SD card into the locked phone.
Step 6. Boot into twrp recovery. Go to install and then find the externalSD storage.
Step 7. Find the file you downloaded unto the SD card, click it then swipe flash.
Step 8. Reboot your phone and you should be able to log into it without a pin.
Refresh your memory and maybe at one point you installed any af those programs doing automatic picture backup? I'm using dropbox, outlook and google photos. with unlimited data I can keep 3 copies in the cloud.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
I thought I was in the clear but ****!, I only retrieved half of my photos. But now the problem is the pin bypass only byasses the phone lock, but my dumbass put some pictures in something called private mode and unfortunately the bypass did not reset the private mode password. I need to somehow get the photos that are still locked up in the private mode. Anybody have any suggestions?
I was able to get all of my photos using the methods described by PVSGH by rooting and falshing a custom firmware the phone was then able connect to my pc with no issue just make sure you do not wipe the internal memory the phones internal memory goes untouched through the entire process as stated above you will need an sd card, I used an sd card and inside the TWRP recovery program used the advance file moving program to move some of the files needed to root to the internal storage. A lot of circumventing but in the end got the photos, now I just need the original stock firmware if someone can point me in the direction of that so I can flash it back. I have a black T-mobile Samsung Note 4 910T

Sorry for such a Noob question.
I would like to download the basic stock rom for the N1.
My wifes N1 is not working correctly & she only uses basic features on the phone so i would like to flash it with the original stock rom.
Also at the moment we cannot turn the mobile internet off either.
PLEASE HELPPPPPPP
Bart
Here is the latest stock release in all it's options:
http://android.modaco.com/content/g...build-info-and-repacks-stock-rooted-deodexed/
The bottom most link sounds like the one you're looking for.
thank you so much for that
is flashing the rom on this the same as it would be for a Hero using HTC Sync on your computer?
if not please point me to a guide
my assumption from what i can see is that with this i dont need to root the phone or anything like that, is that right?
Hi sorry guys I still really need some help here.
I have managed to download the ROM as suggested but Im so confused from reading the different tutorials on how to actually flash the phone to revert it back to the stock rom.
I have seen the below tut would you advise using this?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
however i do not know what these terms mean
adb reboot bootloader
Confirm fastboot connection fastboot devices
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
is fastboot where you hold the trackball down & then turn the device on giving you the sub menu?
sorry for the noob questions but i really need to get this phone sorted
Many thanks
Bart
There's a much simpler way to return to stock.
Download FRF91 from http://developer.htc.com
Rename to passimg.zip and copy to the root of the SD card.
Hold Vol- and power on the phone, it will find the file and ask if you wish to install. Job done.
Rusty
Thank you so much, you may save me from a divorce & a headache.
The internet truly makes the world a smaller place.
Thank you again so much sir
hi followed followed the steps & the phone doenst find the passimg.zip file when it reboots
i renamed the original zipped file to passimg.zip & put it on the sc card
also tried to extract the original file that i downloaded into another folder, renamed that to passimg.zip & put on the root of sd card.
neither method seemed to work as when i rebooted the phone with Vol - key held it didnt recognise or find the file
i just get the fastboot menu
Please help
Check it's not called passimg.zip.zip
Quite common
thanks mate i checked that
i ensured that i could see the extension before i renamed the file
so the file is def renamed passimg.zip
please confirm that i needed to just rename the downloaded zip file & not extract the file & then zip it
what else can i check please
thanks Rusty

What ROM is on her phone currently? Is it rooted? Is the bootloader unlocked? These are all important questions =)
phone is running 2.2.1 at the mo
phone is not rooted or anything unlocked, she has only received the over the air updates to the phone but done nothing else.
I think that the issues she's been having have occurded since the last update.
when she first had the phone it worked a treat
thanks for your help guys
Well in that case she *is* on a basic stock ROM. What problems are happening on her phone?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
the keyboard often would just stop responding
the internet would work and then not work
overall the phone would be working a lot slower than when she originally got it which is why I want to revert it to the stock Rom
Just factory reset it
ok I tried to do a factory reset but that's just wipes all the data right and doesn't actually reset the software version
I have done this by using the option within the phone menu and then also done this by using the clear storage option from the fastboot menu and again it only clears the phone's data and not reset the Rom to original
Again, you already have a stock ROM! It's the newest version but it's definitely stock unless you made any egregious mistakes during the upgrade or made any modifications yourself. You've said it was never rooted, hence I must conclude that it's as stock as it's going to get.

As the bloke above me says, its already as original as it's going to get!
ok guys sorry about this, its probably down to my mis communication, I want to reset the phone to firmware version 2.1 which is what it came with as it was working fine then. I thought this is what was meant by returning to original stock Rom.
apologies for the mis com
how do I reset it to original firmware 2.1
Even if you did, it will bug you to update all the time.
You need a passimg file, the original one for the N1 (ERD79) can be found on shipped-roms.com
Rename it to passimg.zip, put it on the root of the SD card and power on the phone holding Vol- it will find the file and ask if you want to update.
Hello everyone,
Firstly what a great website. Thank you. I am a 'noob', I have watched the video, searched the posts etc, However as someone who understands very little technological jargon, I was looking for a step by step, recent, updated guide to rooting the HTC Salsa.
Now don't be fooled...I actually have no idea about rooting...I have only just learned about this from searching internal memory issues. However, I am good and following step by step instructions/videos etc
So, can anyone link me to the correct thread, if it has already been posted or help to guide me?
Thanks in advance

there are several others..
Now the route for rooting just got easier....its much more easier to flash a new rom.....as it comes with preroot anyway, saving a lot of time and agro!
its a choice thats up to you!
Go here >http://www.wix.com/bigbearevo/salsa for how to create stuff and do stuff to your phone! I compiled it so people could find it easier...
Thank you BBE,
however I'd be lying if I said that I fully understood any of that!!
I am happy to choose whatever is the easier option, although I am not sure which that is. I looked on your website, but I really didn't understand what part I should be following. I could also not see how to join.
So, would it be possible for you advise me again, with one option that is the easiest. I do not know what flashing a ROM is, but am happy to follow instructions.
Thanks for your patience
Ruthie
Lol that's nps
Ok few questions first to help find which route you want to take.
Do you want to Change what your using right now?
I mean by u are using sense stock.
Check in android development for Roms of choice to figure out what u like.
Flashing is the process in which you install a new rom.
I myself am a serial flasher, meaning while I make Roms I constantly flash my phone lol.
What do u want out of rooting?
Are u just going for the increased memory or do u want a change in appearance too?
The options are.
Keep your stock rom, root it and increase memory.
Flash a custom rom, pleanty around now, advantage with this is most things are Inc that u would have to do on stock rom.
To do this also. U may need to su things prior.
Just to start you off.
Turn off phone and pull out battery.
Reinsert battery, hold down volume key and press power with volume key pressed down.
HBOOT will appear. At the top will be alot of numbers etc. I need to see if you have old or new updates.
If u have old u may need to unlock bootloader with updates first. Easy to do.
Fill in this and choose the way u want and I shall help you succeed in your goal.
BB
Wasn't me............ ;-)
Hi BBE
I still don't understand the abbreviations: nps, su etc?
Anyway this is what phone says:
ICON_g PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.07.0000
MICROP-0558
RADIO-7.51.35.19
Dec 15 2011, 12:57:05
I am ideally looking to increase memory. My phone has been stuck without functioning properly for about 4 weeks now. I am happy to include a new ROM if this also increases my memory, but to be honest I don't really care about changing the image of my phone but am happy to do so if this helps.
I am not really sure what I am looking for in my 'ROM of choice' so there is little point in me looking unless it is really obvious? But perhaps you can guide me?
Thanks again
Ruthie
P.S I am more than happy to get rid of many of vodafones pre-installed applications.

nps = no problems
look in rom development section, see threads with[ROM] in it, see pictures and whats included in the roms it self.
personally if you want standard use a sense rom
Options are
Thing rom
Bigbear x series V10
Minds sense 3.5
reason i state this is the rooting part.
All custom roms have root/New SU (Superuser rights app)
This is required to run the increased memory.
NOTE Updating HBOOT?UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER WILL WIPE YOUR ROM CLEAN.
BACK EVERYTHING UP U CAN
You need to update your HBOOT.
Goto HTCDev >http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader
Register (takes a few mins)
plug your phone into the pc and select charge option.
Download these >http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?68k4zzzeamjwswt
extract these in to a new folder on c: called Android
now follow instructions to update your HBOOT.
Ok assuming the HBOOT is now updated via HTCDev
You can follow the rest of the instructions to unlock the bootloader, takes around 15mins or so.
So you got the email with the unlock.bin file.
add that into the Android folder u made with those files in there.
Follow instructions again to begin your unlock.
All Done.
so you have updated the HBOOT and unlock bootloader....
Good now for the next bit.
Installing CWM 5
This is a program installed into the phone itself.
This allows you to do pretty much anything you want.
Main thins are Backup and restore of your device.
Flashing of custom Roms
here is recovery >http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bumma6im6fu8q4b
this is pretty easy to do.

Once you have done this, then its upto you if your root it or install a new rom.

New Memory
So to increase the memory partition u need to complete the previous task.
Now then.
Tools required for this next task.
Minitool partition wizard >http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
SD READER for your pc.
About 30mins of your time.
Ok to start with
Turn off your phone, remove sd and place into the reader and into your pc via USB slot.
Now open up The partition wizard.
Personally id back up your sd right now...just in case.
Now select your sd and create a new partition
You want to create and EXT3 partition and select it as Primary only, apply actions, now it will do its thing, watch as it works.
Now if this has completed the sd may register as bad....don't worry.
Unplug reader and reinsert back to pc, now you should have 2 partitions on your sd EXT3 max 1gb and the rest fat32
this shouldn't have touched your fat32 section but if you didn't follow it right and it got wiped...just copy back your backup onto the sd now.
ok reinsert the sd into your phone and start it up.
now to get access to this new memory...it all depends on what rom you are using.
On stock or stock based rom which have NO APPS2SD.
all roms state if this has it or not. mine dont.
now using a set script you have to flash this in recovery mode to enable the new memory.
For APPS2SD use this >http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?qr5rh2fho1hnbnl
Roms WITHOUT APPS2SD >http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?duigp9ky9796b65

Since my phone is S-On, so my question can i make it root ( I think no), what is the solution to make S-Off. Itsn't there any solution without using XTC Clip (I dnt wanna buy such thing)
Please reply.....
Thanks

HTC Salsa Memory
Hi Big Bear, primarily thank you for all your posts and info which I found really helpful.
My Phone:HTC Salsa
HBOOT-1.07.0000
My problem is:
I used XTC Clip to S-OFF my HTC Salsa, and rooted it. My main aim is to increase its internal memory. So I followed the thread step by step. After rooting the phone (downloaded "root.zip"), I did the 3 wipes and installed CWM 5.0.2.6. Booted phone and all was fine. I did the 3 wipes again, booted the phone and allowed the ROM to fully boot. Then I entered into the HBOOT --> Recovery --> Install zip from SD Card --> installed "htc-data2sd-ext3.zip" and rebooted phone. I used 16gb Class 10 micro (Partitioned using Minitool to ext3 using just 800mb and the rest FAT32, first partition FAT32 and the second partition ext3 both as Primary). I was really happy with the result as when I booted my SD showed 800mb of free space.
I started to download my favourite applications and all was fine. I then switched off phone, placed the SIM and switched back on. Phone reception was very low too, just one or two bars but otherwise all was fine for about an hour until it started to give me several errors of Force Closing. SMSs won't arrive as when I clicked messages, it Force Closes, the same happened with the GMAIL application. I restored the phone to my back up and I did the process all again for about 6 times even using different SD cards but the result was always the same.
So now I restored again, using CWM 5026, created ext3 partition again and downloaded Link2SD. This however is making almost no difference and my internal memory left is now only about 40mb. Phone is working fine, Full Mobile Network Reception, messages work fine too but I did not solve the memory problem.
Am I missing something? Any help from you is greatly appreciated.
Looking forward to hearing from you when you have time.
Thank you so much once again.

Can I upgrade Hboot from 1.07 to 1.08 since I am now S-OFF? If yes, how can I go about it?
Thank you for your help.
HTC Salsa Hboot 1.08.000
Hi Vigoos, thank you once again for your help. I have managed to follow another thread about Hboot Update for S-OFF. I followed it, updated the bootloader and now I have 1 gb of ext3 memory.
Thanks to you, Problem solved. Wonderful job, keep it up!

Hey @BigBearEvo
I intend to root my friends HTC Salsa and I think yours is the best method out there. The rest kinda confuse me. However, the links dont seem to work. I am unable to download anything.
I understand that your post is old and there could be some updates as of today. Do you know of any better method or how to go about?
All my friend wants to do is get some more internal memory.
Thanks

nps = no problems
look in rom development section, see threads with[ROM] in it, see pictures and whats included in the roms it self.
personally if you want standard use a sense rom
Options are
Flashing of custom Roms
here is recovery >http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bumma6im6fu8q4b
this is pretty easy to do.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438804
this shows how to install the recovery.
Once you have done this, then its upto you if your root it or install a new rom.
...................................................................................................
Using the wrong one will cause problems so be very clear what u want.
reboot phone and enjoy new memory.
here are my guides showing the how 2
HTC Unlock >http://bigbearevo.wix.com/salsa/faqs---guides#!__faqs---guides
Install recovery >http://bigbearevo.wix.com/salsa/faqs---guides#!__faqs---guides/recovery

Okay, so.. Excuse me in advance if I'm in the wrong section of the forums, because this is the only Exhibit section I can find.. And also excuse me for the length of this post, as my problem is a bit detailed.
Long story short, I had issues with my texts not being received. I tried wiping the phone and re-rooting (using root-stock found on this website - I can link if need be?).. Anyway, I went so far as to do a factory data wipe, which clearly wasn't a very good idea (I'm a bit new at this root business)..
Anyway, I ended up to the point where I'd reach the Android Setup Wizard, and start to go through it and it would crash.. Upon reboot, the phone would completely freeze at the second "SAMSUNG" logo (the white lettering). After this, I tried using odin to just flash the stock ROM to the phone via the PC, but neither the PC nor odin actually "see" the phone. (I have the drivers, but PC reads the phone as "USB Hub" for some reason) I moved on to other things...
I used bluetooth to put cwm and root-stock back onto the internal memory after removing my external SD card, and flashed cwm no problem. Everything was going well, and it even said it installed the root-stock (I did a data wipe beforehand).. Upon reboot, I now reach "Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G" logo, and it continually reboots in a loop. I can still access recovery mode, but I don't want to proceed any further without some outside input, considering I don't fully understand what's going on.
I'm aware that the phone seems to be "soft-bricked," because before I flashed cwm and root-stock, it was "working" in terms of being able to receive calls (and make them, after opening the contacts from inside a call), as well as send and receive texts via the notification bar. But the weirdest thing is, before I went the route of re-flashing the root/cwm, it wouldn't show me a homescreen of any kind, I couldn't use my menu button, and my home button was pointless to touch because it went nowhere. It was just a black screen (not a background, but completely black void) with a statusbar at the top.
Anyway, I'm currently stuck in a boot-loop and I'm very curious if there's any way I can fix this phone without using odin, because the phone isn't recognized by it or a PC, so I'm stuck using the device itself to do things. I'm VERY hopeful that someone takes the time to read this and offer any input they can, because I'm currently without a device and I have no means of getting another phone at the moment.
Thanks in advance for reading this, and for any input that you guys have to offer. Hopefully some day I'm not so noobish at this >.<
Ok, I know you've said you wiped but try this then reboot. In CWM wipe data/cache and under advanced wipe dalvik. Also if you have a working CWM you can flash rooted community ROM or flash to stock found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686384 scroll down till you see them. But wipe 3x don't know why some people need to but try it.
Note: a working cwm can flash any custom ROM with root pre-installed and you should be fine if you wipe the three I mentioned 3x format system under mounts and storage and format internal sd works wonders too.

If I do a format of system or internal SD, I won't lose the ROM or CWM off of the system storage? If I lose these, I have no way of putting them back on the phone because I was doing it via bluetooth and the phone doesn't boot in order to do that anymore - The same applies to using a different ROM, sadly >.<
Also, I've already wiped the dalvik and cache several times, because that was the only way I could make the phone boot into a mode I could access anything at all on previous to installing the root again. I haven't tried doing this again as of yet, but I will do so and report back.
Just some extra information, because it wouldn't allow me to do so (being new and having to wait):
When I rebooted after the format (to the original stock rom/recovery, and even from recovery) it gave an "invalid argument" for /preload, saying it was unable to be accessed. It also said it couldn't access tmb/csc/system.. I'm unsure what these actually are, but I'm under the impression they may be at the route of my problem. Will formatting repair or otherwise help with these items being unable to be accessed?
Formatting internal will get rid of ROM, but not recovery. You'll be fine if you wipe system and reboot (ed: need to install a rom before reboot).
Try putting your ROM.zip on your external before wiping internal by mounting USB storage and copy ROM to external, then wipe internal and install ROM.
Formatting system (twice) didn't help anything at all - Still gets stuck at Exhibit logo and reboots after about 30 seconds.
Same thing with wiping dalvik/cache, even after 4-5 wipes of each. Should I be rebooting recovery after each of these?
I can't mount usb storage to PC, because PC doesn't recognize the device when I plug it in afterward (or even before mounting). It hasn't recognized the device for quite some time, but it used to act as if it were plug & play when I purchased it, and even well into the time it was rooted. A few months back, I installed the drivers for it (found via Google and ultimately this website), which didn't help it recognize the device. It only recognizes the device when in the "MTP" mode, which allows me to access and transfer data without issues(and I can't do this without being able to access the phone to turn it on ). Otherwise, it says "USB Device Not Recognized - One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it"
I already have the ROM on my PC, but without any means of transfer back to the phone, removing it from internal storage would mean I have no physical way of accessing any ROM in order to restore my phone to working order. I'm at a loss as far as this is concerned, because I have the drivers installed. I'm unsure whether the phone itself is damaged, but I hope this isn't the case and that there's a way to resolve this issue directly.
My biggest concern isn't really the PC not recognizing the device, apart from needing it if I remove the ROM. My main concern is getting the thing to actually boot beyond the logos.. But if I remove the ROM, how will I put it back when it doesn't load to be able to bluetooth anything, and the PC doesn't recognize what it is?
EDIT -
I just realized something... Mounting USB storage doesn't seem to matter as far as moving the ROM, because I can just move them around via the external SD using CWM to flash them - But this is assuming that CWM will remain on the phone after formatting internal SD. Will it stay? If so, I'm going to try rooted community ROM, because the root-stock gives me the impression that it does nothing but apply root. The thread states "otherwise no changes to your phone," which implies (to me) that it doesn't actually include anything the phone needs in order to operate - It only changes certain things to apply root access... Not sure if this is true or not, but it would help explain what the heck is going on.
OH MY GOD! YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING!!
Thank you SO, SO MUCH for helping me. My device is no longer a useless paperweight :good: :good: :good:
I wish I could click the "Thanks" button a thousand times!!
Just incase anyone else has this issue and is able to access notification bar, this is what I did from beginning to end, without all the nonsense between times:
1) Turn Bluetooth on
2) Transfer Clockworkmod via bluetooth to internal SD. ((Tip: Use a separate android device to do this, if PC isn't capable) If already installed skip to step 4)
3) Re-flashed Clockworkmod
4) Place Rooted Community ROM (found here) onto external SD and insert SD into device.
5) Boot device into Custom Recovery (CWM)
6) Wipe cache/dalvik (I did it 4-5 times, just to make sure it was clear)
7) Format system AND rom AND SDCard (internal ONLY - I did all 3 times just to be sure)
8) Flashed Rooted Community ROM from external SD card (it takes some time to install - It will say when completed)
9) Rebooted phone via Custom Recovery - When clicking this, be sure to select NO when it asks to fix the root. I clicked "YES" the first time and it DID NOT FIX THE PHONE. It got stuck in another boot-loop.
10) Initial boot took a bit longer than usual (which is normal), but afterwards, I no longer have a phone that's soft-bricked.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU GUYS VERY, VERY MUCH. You've saved my life by helping me sort through this! Very, very appreciative and I hope both of you have a wonderful day :good: :good:
Good to know. I think you may have lost PNP from a windows update by samsung. To get that back, uninstall those drivers and look for 1.3.2410 or here if interested.
Still the same issue. Device isn't recognized with normal MTP (just plugging into the USB), and it acts as if I haven't even plugged it in at all when trying to use "Mass Storage" from the Network settings in the phone.
I just direct installed the drivers from the exe. Am I doing something wrong?
Try another port, cable, or machine. It worked before, so it could be a driver or something physical.
ed: When you're booted into your rom, can you change storage connection to ums? cwm might be mass storage instead of mtp.
Also, are you able to receive texts now?
I'm able to do everything the device is supposed to do out of the box, aside from access MTP.
I only have the one PC, and all ports have pretty much the same reaction to the device. I don't have access to another cable, because I only have the one that came with the device.
Mounting USB Mass Storage through CWM gives the same result on the PC "Device Not Recognized" etc, etc.
Not even ten days later and I've had to re-flash the ROM. The device kept turning itself off and back on again, so I decided to just remove all the programs I'd installed, thinking something I installed was causing an issue. After doing so, the device kept crashing. Not a reboot of the device or anything of the sort. Literally everything would pop up saying " ----- has stopped responding" and ask to force close. Not really sure what could've caused that, considering I've only installed things that were on Google Play, but it gave me the impression that I had an app that wasn't working correctly with the ROM on the device.
I've brought it back to "vanilla" and I'm not going to bother installing anything at all on it for a while and see if the issue comes up again. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem before or not, but I figured I'd just give my two cents since I made this thread with intentions to figure out what was going on with my phone. If anyone has any insight as to why this may have happened it would be greatly appreciated so I can avoid it happening this time. I'll report back if the issue comes up again, or becomes persistent.
Thanks again for all of your help, and sorry if you've wasted your time reading this.
EDIT -
Device still reboots randomly, but I suspect it's a stuck power button. Is it possible that it just needs cleaning? Sometimes it reboots, sometimes it comes up with the option to power off after touching the power button to activate the touch screen, then upon pressing the back button, it reboots several seconds later as if I were holding the power the entire time.
Stuck in boot-loop help!!!
Carefully followed instructions, and carefully selected 2 .zip files for my t679 http://click.xda-developers.com/api...4G - xda-developers&txt=<b>root-stock.zip</b> and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26860509&postcount=4 installed cwm successfully, but after installation of root-stock.zip system reboot now stuck in "boot loop" now what?

Following this in its entirety means you've wiped your phone's system clean. You'll have to use something other than root-stock, because that specifically states that it changes nothing other than granting root access. Everything that was on the phone from the factory is what root-stock uses, apart from giving you root access for things like Superuser, firewalls, etc. In this case, none of the stock items are present.
I used Rooted Community ROM. It's pretty much the same as root-stock, but it has a few goodies (BootyCall, and I think Busy Box) included. There are several other roms you could use, so you're welcome to look around a bit instead of just going with that one, but using that one for now would give you a working phone again until you find another you may like more.

good call, community rom resolved this issue... now the only item left is the original problem - wifi/bluetooth "error". most of the easy fixes have already been attempted, aside from determining definitively if hardware issue.
Was the error your reason for rooting? (or re-flashing a rom)?
Are you running the phone completely vanilla now? (no apps, no app updates, even of "stock" applications?) If not, you should try running it that way and testing the wifi and bluetooth prior to updating or installing things.
If it were something you installed that caused a software or hardware issue, it would've most likely been something you installed a day or two beforehand.(When it broke the first time.) If you suspect it was a specific app, stay away from it (or them) in the future.
Considering that you're running a newly flashed rom, it's a little odd that the bluetooth/WiFi unctionality would error, unless it were a hardware issue. The rom you're using shouldn't affect either of those negatively, even if the phone were bricked and you managed to repair it.

The WiFi error existed prior to my ownership. I have never got it to function at all, except for when I was first programming the access point names settings for new mobile network, and fiddling with the other settings in the area, it did show my LAN, allowed me to attempt connection then failed the process early stage. It seemed logical that a new system would alleviate any antagonistic action executed by any previous owner. The only certain detail was it had not been rooted. I have been told loading custom Rom is 2 birds deal, freshness and increased control. Also, based on the behavior of the device and pop-up error messages that indicate software failure makes it seem related to software hiccup. but just a hunch. Been wrong before, really don't want to tear down phone but am open to learning something new. Thanks
- zCHEMDAWGz
I truly have no idea why the software would have any issues that arose directly after installing the new rom.
The only thing I can really suggest is using cwm to wipe everything several times prior to re-flashing the rom again, but I'm guessing you already did that. On the off chance it were hardware related, it probably wouldn't actually give error messages, so I'm gonna retract that from this entirely as it's very unlikely.
If you haven't, wipe your internal memory, system, cache/dalvik. Just in case, be sure you remove your external SD so you can keep the rom on it. Also, while you're at it, remove everything else except the rom from the external SD in case something on it is causing the issue, then try to re-flash the rom.

Followed instructions, still having same issue... also the problem was there before I flashed New rom. I'm stumped...
Well, it being there before flashing the rom is a start, but that doesn't really explain why the new rom wouldn't have fixed whatever the issue was. I'm assuming (because I honestly don't know) that bluetooth and wifi are both controlled through the same hardware, with different softwares running them on the device. If both of them are messed up and refuse to work even after a re-flash, chances are it's just dead.
Have you actually formatted system, cache, etc after wiping, prior to a new flash? I had to format mine several different times in order to stop the boot loops and crashing. It could be something that's stuck in the system, cache, etc that didn't go away with a simple wipe. Other than that, it very well could be a hardware issue.
If it is a latent issue maybe doing full wipes through adb is the next step. I remember reading some people had some issues with doing wipes through cwm. It might be worth a try at the very least.

Hey guys!*
First time posting on this site but I'm hoping you guys can help!
I have a Note 3 N900AUCUEOC2 5.0 Lollipop version.
My ultimate goal is to root my Note 3. Since in the past I have rooted my old phones and love it. But with the Note 3, specially the N900a 5.0 lollipop version, it seems hardest to get accurate root instructions for.*
After days of searching over many forums, I came to the conclusion that I need to flash my version (using Odin) Lollipop 5.0 OC2 back to Kitkat 4.4 NC2 and then from there I can use Towel Root to root my device and then upgrade to 5.0 again. So I thought..?
First of all, I backed up all my contacts and apps and everything using Easy Back Up. To my ext SD card an then I removed my ext SD card for safe keeping. Then I downloaded the required (working) Odin N900AUCUCNC2 files. Which was 4 separate files. I then put my phone into Odin Mode and connected to PC and ran Odin with the files selected. Everything went smooth, passed and my phone rebooted.. of course I was expecting a full factory reset with the new version. But when I check the version it says I'm still on 5.0??? And I even tried to fire up Towel Root and it won't even let me go to the site anymore and gives me a 404 error messege. All other sites seem to work tho.
Also to confuse things more, I turned off my phone and put my SD card back in to retrieve my back up and everything else on it. But... there's nothing there! It's complete wiped clean! Which doesn't make sense since I didn't have it inside my phone during the flashing progress.*
So now I basically flashed my phone for nothing and lost all my data in the process.*
I thought I was more computer savy than this but I guess this one stumped me and I could really use your guys help.*
Where did I go wrong and how can I fix it?

Where did I go wrong and how can I fix it?

sounds like you did everything typically right, but i dont have this device to verify the steps. best to post your question in the note 3 q&a forums for quicker and possibly more accurate answers.
just my opinion, but im betting your sd wasnt wiped, just something wrong with your phone and cant read it, i could be wrong. you could use an adapter and put it in your pc to verify if its clean or not.

Ohh okay. Yeah I wasn't sure where exactly to post, so I'll post it in Q/A.
And I didn't think to check my sd card on my computer. I'll try that.

its ok to post here, but if your device has its own forums, you will generally get more detailed help there faster
Coming from an iPhone I'm used to connecting the phone to iTunes via USB, downloading a fresh version of the OS and restoring the phone. Then I have the option of setting up as new or restoring a backup.
I would like to know if there's a way to do something like that with my Note 8. I realize I can reset everything from within the settings app but I would like to wipe it clean and install a fresh copy of Nougat 7.1.1.
Is this possible? Also just in case it comes up I'm not interested in rooting at this point in time.
Thanks!!

Pretty sure there is a ton of posts on here discussing Odin and what it is used for, as well if you look under guides I have posted the stock firmware and links to odin.
Go here for that stuff: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...stock-restore-odin-recovery-software-t3668888
Basics : Odin is like ITunes , you select the firmware to install to the device and push it to phone, it wipes phone and installs the software selected.
There are only a few limitations of ODIN, that being that if the firmware is set to Anti-Rollback you can not go back to any version older then the 1st revision of that rollback version.
Example : N950USQU1AQI5 This is the latest version for sprint currently there are 3 parts of this explained below.
The QI5 is the version identifier.
N950U is the variant the software is designed to be used with.
The number 5 spots from the end determines the bootloader revison and will be the Anti-rollback version. All versions matching that number can be flashed without bias, so any version labeled ( 1 ) can be flashed to the note.
Now hypothetically if this was the software that comes next: N950USQU2AQL9
Once you were to install this version you could NEVER flash anything lower then ( 2 ) to the device, the bootloader on the phone will refuse it and tell you the version is older and will not install.
Thank you for the detailed reply. Your right in that I've seen a lot about Odin. What I'm somewhat concerned about is that whatever I've managed to find and read about doing this is that it will void the warranty? Is this accurate or am I misunderstood something?
Also, the reason I wanted to do this is because something screwed things up after I moved apps to the SD card. And yes I moved them using the built-in settings app. So obviously I was only able to move apps that the OS allowed me to. Basically even though it showed that the apps were on the external storage they just disappeared. If I tried to reinstall Google Play would immediately crash.
So my thought was that if I did a clean install it would wipe out any crud that might be left behind by doing a hard reset built into the phone. Am I completely wrong about this or is it possible some stuff might be left behind?
Thanks again for taking the time to post your reply.

Odin does NOT effect the warranty bit, even with the new root method the Knox warranty status does not get effected.
I actually had mine rooted, some pixels in my screen were messed up ( not related to root ) used ODIN to go back to stock and sent it in to Samsung for a warranty repair and it was approved, fixed and sent back for free so no fret.
The warranty status shows up when you put your phone into Download mode ( Holding Bixby + Volume Down and power button together during a boot up ) It shows warranty bit 00x00
If it were to effect it the status would go to 00X01 and so on as you continue to modify things. The status only changes if the phone is compromised with custom boot files witch we do not have access to due to having the bootloader locked.
This is a routine process to recover the phone if it wouldn't boot,
furthermore you can essentially do the same procedure using Samsung smart switch on desktop, but i'm not fluent with using it as ODIN is a better method and more robust and less dumb ware.
as for moving apps to sd, you could also try deleting them off the sd, or possible that the sd card is messing up and not fast enough for the device to read and run those apps so if you redo and it happens again id avoid putting them on sd if you can.
hope this helps. No fret on using odin, just take your time and pay attention to the options you use. Do not confuse NAND ERASE ALL ( that is the same has a hard reset) with ERASE EFS ( this deletes the serial number and should never be done! )
Again, thank you so much for the detailed reply. Just one more thing. Can you please supply me a link to the correct stock ROM. I apologise for all the noob questions but it's been more than 7 years since I've messed with Android. Some of the links I found took me to download did where I had to pay or else the fire was too big for free.
I believe this is the exact one I need for my Sprint Note 8
N950USQU1AQI5. This is what I have on my phone now.
As for the SD card issue there were just a few apps I found. The others just seemed to disappear. In any case I bought a new 256GB U3 card by Samsung so there should be no questions now on whether it's too slow or bad. I moved a couple apps and so far so good.
Thanks again and best regards!!

The 1st link I sent you at top is the link to find most current firmware for the Sprint note 8. QI5 is the latest as of today. The one you posted is the correct one. The post also has Odin available to dl as well.
But here is the direct link to QI5: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745849072291677290
Pretty much with Odin
Take the firmware zip and unzip it.
Then put phone into dl mode as explained above holding power, volm down and bixby. Once on green screen click up to start dl mode and it's ready.
Side note:
That key combo is also soft reset. Holding vol up instead would bring you to recovery where you can do a full hard reset as well. If you accidentaly get into dl mode trying to soft reset because phone got frozen just soft reset out of it and you'll be back to booting up as normal.
Plug phone in and open Odin.
Odin should show the phone and it's com port once driver on pc have installed.
Click each box ( bl, ap, cp, csc) and select the matching files.
The csc you'll use is the one with OYN in it's name.
Under options have f.reset time.. auto reboot and nand erase all checked. Nothing else. Again I say nand erase all.. remember what I said about the efs one and never checking it....
Once each loads up.. ( ap will take forever it will act like it has gotten stuck and may show it's not responding ) this is normal just wait it out as it's a huge package being loaded...
Click start and drink a coffee..
Once done, it will auto reboot, wipe and then boot up
Re setup and test. Just be aware all data on device will be gone.
Otherwise you will be good to go!
I added to generic photos of what it looks like when phone is connected and com port is showing up. As well what options are to be selected. I put a big pointing finger to the correct erase all option as well lol
Thank you for all the detailed replies!!! You rock dude. Things are slowly coming back to me. The EVO 4G was the last Android phone I had before jumping to iPhone. I used to install different ROMs almost weekly and tried all sorts of stuff back then. Had no fear
I guess after being away for so long it just takes time and reading through all the different threads.
Thanks again!!!

Okay so I was all set to do this but when I unzipped the firmware.zip and there are more files in there that I'm not sure what to do with.
First there are 2 CSC files and both have OYN in the name.
First one is : CSC_OYN_N950UOYN1AQI5_CL12173876_QB14907525_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
Second is: HOME_CSC_OYN_N950UOYN1AQI5_CL12173876_QB14907525_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
There's also a file called USERDATA_SPR_N950USQU1AQI5_CL12173876_QB14907525_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
Is there anything I need to do with this particular file?
Also all the files are xxx.tar.MD5. Am I right in guessing that Odin with verify the MD5 checksum?
Thanks again!!!

use the CSY OYN, i touched this in a earlier response, and dont worry about the user data one and yes they are verified by md5 before a push occurs, this can be turned off in odin if you wanted and skip md5 verification.

If you don't mind I have a question about restoring from backup. If I backup to Samsung cloud then it will restore the apps that I currently have installed, is that correct?
If I backup to Google and then restore from Google backup it will only restore data and if I install an app that I had prior to the wipe/restore it will then restore the data for that particular app. Is that correct?
Also is it possible to choose which apps to restore if I restore from Samsung backup?
Thanks again!!
