Galaxy S6- How Can I root This Phone? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

AT&T S6 Root on OF3
Just got my new Samsung Galaxy S6 with AT&T. Tried PingPong root, to no avail. Here's my info:
SAMSUNG-SM-G920A
Android 5.0.2
G920AUCU2AOF3
Kernel 3.10.61-4823236
Jun 18 2015
Can anyone give me a hand rooting this thing? I saw some posts saying the -OF3 variant isn't rootable, and to downgrade or rebuild the kernel to a previous date.

You have to wait. No root method yet for OF3 or OF4. You can't downgrade either.

Stock Odin SM-N900A ??

Just wondering if anyone has found a stock Odin .tar.md5, for our AT&T SM-N900A.?
Also can anyone confirm any EFS backup solutions that work for our device?
Thanks.
There is no Odin image as the moment. If you mean something like a nandroid backup you can't do that yet.

Well, just it tight. Root has been achieved, thus an image will almost certainly be available soon. :highfive:
Has it actually been achieved or is it in progress?

Seems like that's a tall order, being selinux was requested by NSA.

If memory serves me right you had the Atrix 4G years ago. I'm glad to see you've got the Galaxy Note 3 as well.
The OneClickBin for DesignGears' root method is stock odin flash I believe. Just don't finish the rest of the root process.

[Testing] OI2 firmware root mothods

Anyone already on 5.1.1 without root? try some common root methods. Pingpong, etc. To see if anything works.
Hey you never know if an older exploit makes its way back into newer releases. It's happened before.
Please post your results and what methods you've tried.

So, I wonder how long it will be before we have Flashfire files for OI2; rooted or otherwise? I'm not expecting current root methods to work, and am absolutely FINE waiting however long it takes for root. Meanwhile, I'm reading that 5.1.1 brings us an overall performance improvement, and just for that reason, I am soooooo excited we're FINALLY getting it!!!

What the purpose of this thread or at least my intention was to have people attempt current root methods on OI2. Also to obtain the tar for 5.1.1 since I have all of my OTA services disabled. I could enable them but if someone had the tar already that would be better.
Additionally, I'd like to work towards a root method with other devs and enthusiast's for 5.1.1. Not that this release will be any easier than OF3/4 But you never know.
Thanks.

I would settle for the OTA file to sideload with ADB just to get the update but the .tar would be fantastic. I read that the edge guys sideloaded the OTA and retained root from 5.0.2.

I'm not sure that's been confirmed successful yet. I've been actively keeping track of the ATT S6 Edge forums since I got the phone in April. Many users (including me) have yet to update from OE2 (5.0.2) because that's the last update where we were able to keep root. I know that there are threads here on the regular S6 forum where people upgraded from OE2 to OF3 and OF4 while retaining root, but I haven't seen that happen on the Edge yet. (SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US EDGE USERS!)
In regards to the OI2 upgrade for the Edge, I saw 1 post for someone that "said" they upgraded from OE2 (5.0.2) to OI2 (5.1.1) and kept root, but no one else has had any luck with that yet.
Has anyone got the OTA file for the standard S6 yet?

Can the boooader be unlocked?

Hey, I have been out of the rooting game for some time, but I was wondering if this phone can be unlocked and flashed with something like cyanogenmod? I have done research but can't find anything conclusive. Thanks!

I presume you are referring to the Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G920T)?
If so then yes you can flash SU and TWRP via Odin and install a compatible ROM through recovery.
That's because the bootloader is not locked. Or at least at the moment with 5.1.1

Yes. The T-Mobile S6 variant (SM-G920T) does NOT have a locked a bootloader at present.
The S7 however does and the suspicion (though unfounded at the moment) is that once T-mobile releases the Marshmallow update for the S6 it may lock the bootloader. Thus, it is probably going to be a good idea to wait on taking the Marshmallow update as soon as it is available (if root is desirable).
So will any normal Roms available for the standard GSM s7 work with the T-Mobile model? Also, is installing twrp as simple as something like a Nexus? I haven't been in the ROM game for a while, thanks for the help guys

There won't be any ROMs available for the S7 so long as the bootloader remains locked.

For the umpteenth time yes. You just need to make sure that whatever ROM you want to flash is compatible with the T-Mobile S6 variant (SM-G920T).
There is a T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Android Development forum here at XDA which will have a number of different ROMs to choose from as well as information and support for said ROMs.
Thanks man

Yep. Really like my 64g S6 flat. And you are right, with a few tweaks it is a great device.

870a Downgrade then Root?

Is there anyway to Odin back to stock and then root?
Obviously you would lose your settings for resetting to factory, but is it possible? I'm on OJ3 and was gifted this phone, so I could care less if it tripped Knox.
Ideas, suggestions?

To elaborate, there is currently no way to effectively downgrade past OF2. You are stuck with what you've got until you get marshmallow or someone finds a root.

Help determining which nougat/marshmallow ROM to user for model SAMSUNG-SM-G900A

I'm trying to upgrade my buddie's phone here. Not very familiar with the s5 community and what's available..
Can this phone be rooted, TWRP'd, and flashed to nougat or marshmallow officially or otherwise?
Please help, any advice is appreciated.. Thanks
Depends on what version of android you have now if it can be rooted. If you have lollipop or marshmallow, then no, there is no root. Marshmallow is available via ota update.

Yea it's on 5.0... I'll have to get his at&t sim and try to update it via OTA.
Thanks for replying.
