DPI - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way we can make the icon smaller by changing the dpi? My note 5 is rooted and I tried installed Texdroider DPI but it won't do anything. Nothing has changed. This app work perfectly on my OnePlus one. But won't work on the note 5.

Since you're rooted, you can use a Root File Explorer and edit the build.prop; lcd density. At least that's what I do with a rooted Stock Android phone.
However, I have the Note, non-rooted, and used this method and worked well. Should still work on a rooted phone. http://android.wonderhowto.com/how-...creen-resolution-without-root-access-0160439/

I used to have Texdroider DPI on my oneplus one and it worked perfectly. But for some reason it won't work on note 5.
Then last night I tried another DPI app called "Root DPI Changer" it works good. Just FYI, in case you don't want to mess with build.prop

What is the simplest method of changing my DPI?

For those of you who haven't seen this here yet, someone has managed to modify Go Launcher so that the continuous message informing you to install the phone version is no more. Because of this, I'd love to give a go - if it were to actually fit nicely onto my screen that is. I need to adjust my DPI. What DPI do you recommend for comfortably fitting Go Launcher HD and what is the simplest method of changing my DPI to this? I am on the stock ICS 4.0.4, which means I have the brick bug also (so don't go getting my phone bricked please).
There are planety of apps in the Play Store that can do it.
But you may need to restore your system, so you have to be carefull, I had to restore mine once.
there is a manual way to do it by editing a file, but it's not safe either.
In liquid smooth JB rom, the option to change DBI is in the setting directly.. it's amazing.

I believe that you mean "DPI" and not "DBI", but thank you for the advice regardless of a typing error. So, from what you are saying, there is no safe way to alter the DPI on a stock ROM until Samsung (hopefully) fix the brick-bug problem?

Are you rooted? I once changed DPI using "DPI Changer" from play store and I had to re-flash firmware (boot loops), since then I am using root explorer to edit build.prop and haven't encountered any issue since then. You can also use ROM toolbox. But both these require root access.
I have tried 240, 285 and both seems okay.

[Q] Rooted my Kindle fire but it updated and now root seems to be undone

Hey Guys,
I recently rooted my Kindle Fire HD and installed Go Launcher onto it and everything was going perfectly. I then installed Google service and Google Play store which worked perfectly too but this seems to have triggered a Kindle Fire update which now seems to have removed Go Launcher from my kindle...although I can see that the apk file for it is still present. I was wondering if this means that my Kindle Fire has somehow un-rooted itself or if I just need to install Go Launcher again? I am a little baffled as to which way to proceed next, I could re-root but don't want to unless necessary since it is risky and I dont know the affect of re-rooted a machine.
Thanks,
Emmz
I did the same (rooting, play store, go launcher) and i didn't have an update and i still have root.
If i were you, i would first find out if the root-rights on your device really disappeared. For example you could use the ES File manager to find it out. Check if the root-settings in ES are set respectively can be set.
Did you install the go launcher correctly as described in the forum? Copy the apk to /system/apps, set the permissions and install it from there. Be careful!! Everything you do is at your own risk! Read the related thread before you start.
Good luck!

just reroot it would be my suggestion, update gets rid of root but ive read in some instances where people were still able to use their launchers too tho. i havent received an update yet but after i rooted mine, i renamed the otacerts.zip file to otacerts.zip.bak and i also checked that ota keeper box in superuser.
As others have said, OTA updates will unroot the device, and anything else you may have moved to the system folder will also be removed. This usually means launchers and the Vending.apk for Google Play too. It's safe to root again and reinstall your apk. This situation happened to me twice (OTA'd one day, and a few days later, another surprise OTA), and I've already rooted again and reinstalled my launcher.

Android Pay

Any body got luck with installing it on our phone.
I did update google play store to v5.9.11 but still when i open android pay it says update play store service !
go here, http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...ices-8-1-14-2244331-240-android-apk-download/ and install that. That is the Updated GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES you need for google pay.
May be because of root

Disable SuperSU, reboot. Setup everything with Android pay. Enable SuperSU, reboot.
Didnt work for me. Im rooted and bootloader unlocked on my G4.
Download Hide my root from play store. Hide su binary, set up card, enable su binary. Done.
I disabled root in SuperSU and it just worked. Didn't even have to reboot. Works with root after.

You may need to change your DPI back to stock and then back to whatever you want when it adds the card.
I have stock rooted ROM and everything I installed to get Android Pay working is in this folder I have attached https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bzs3J-3mITuKeEg3RnNVWUNiZUk/view?usp=docslist_api

Resetting the DPI first (so you can still use superuser) and then disabling superuser and rebooting worked for me! I then re-enabled superuser and restarted phone and everything works.

Worked for me as well. I also had rootcloak and no device check installed, but idk if those did anything or not.
I can add cards but trying to pay at any store results in "card not supported." Tried at Walgreens and McDonald's. Has anyone actually successfully paid with their G4?

It worked the first time I used it, but since then every time I try it says "Card not supported" I am going to try to hide root later and see if that makes a difference at Chevron.
hid my root su binary and android pay worked at the convenience store. Root cloak will be my next try since apparently I can't pay for anything unless root is hidden
It doesn't work for me unless I'm on both stock DPI and root disabled. I changed DPI through build.prop and I'm on MicroMod's extreme rom. Can't be the rom since it works otherwise. :/ I'll try hiding root, but I really don't want to go back to the stock DPI. Did anyone that has it working do anything differently?

Did you mess with the DPI or are you on stock? I still haven't gotten it to work without stock DPI. :s

Change DPI On Stock Marshmallow

Hi, I have a XT1068, which I converted to a 69, and then upgraded to stock marshmallow. I have now rooted it fine, but no DPI changing apps seem to be able to get the DPI to change - I have even manually edited the build.prop file. Changing the DPI is what makes the phone usable for me, so has anyone successfully done this, and if so, how?
Thanks
you can do it with textdroider_dpi find in google store

I have tried this, and it shows that the DPI has changed in the app, but the UI does not change in any way.

Partially Rooted...?

Hi everyone
I have rooted my phone like a week ago, using CF root on the latest stock rom, and it worked. However I've been noticing certain situations in which the root is there but doesn't seem to be working. I have problems using most of the root apps, and the zips I've flashed.
For example I flashed a font package and all the new fonts appeared in the list after the reboot, I chose my font but now I don't see any of those fonts in the list, not even the one I chose (It's still the default font for my phone but it doesn't show in the list.) In addition I can't even touch play protect let alone disable it, and the samsung device manager keeps warning me that I should restart the phone to undo the root in order to "protect" my phone.
So I think it's partially rooted, and I don't know what the problem is. Would anyone please help me?
