Stock 5.1.1 is the best right now. Latest version and very stable. Great battery life too. I used to flash a lot of custom ROMs, but now stock with root seems good enough

I downgraded from 5.1.2 to 4.4.4 108 and am having a lot of fun
The phome is more responsive
More stable
Better battery life
Better camera quality
Less bugs
More mods and tweaks
The only cons is its not smooth like android lollipop
If u didnt use lollipop before, u wont notice the little stutter on kitkat

I use 5.0 stock rom. Its smooth everything is fine. But camera is not much clear and bettery life is around 4 to 5 hours.. What is yous bettery life??

From ICS to JB - any advantages?

I was just wondering what the experience has been for people who switched from ICS to JB. Are there any advantages in terms of battery life, stability and/or performance?
Thanks in advance.

I'm using TAJB rom from last 1 month, it is daily driver with very minor issues and 100% faster smoother than any ICS rom.
I can say JB is real matured OS of android.
For example, Max Payne game
On ICS it strucks very much, and need to wait almost 5 mins to load the game. I know saving the game also an issue.
On JB, it is smoother and loading became very faster and never strucked. i tried very hard to struck it intentionally but failed every time.

Praveen.

I understood that there is a better performance, but is there stability for every day use and not only? I mean, is there an JB ROM with the perfect stability of a stock ROM for SGS?

There is no perfectly stable JB roms atm as they are all still in alpha/beta.
Elite's recent beta 9 is apparently a very good improvement over beta 8, some are even claiming that it's currently better than his very good ICS rom.

What do you believe, could JB get more improved for SGS than ICS? I mean, all of the ICS rom's that the developer said that are stable, failed at some point. Every ICS ROM that I had on my phone, had a critical point in time where all of the apps and system apps had permanent FCs so I'm looking in the close future for a ROM that it isn't stable for an "determined" period of time... I know that it's not necessarily to get better stability while having better performance, but I hope that there is a better chance in improving our SGSs with JB.

The FCs you got is probably because your /datadata partition got full. Install the Datafix app from the Play Store and clear your cache every now and and it shouldn't happen again.
I've used Elite's ICS rom since beta 10.1 and it's been stable as a rock for me. I'm sure his JB rom is just as good.
Hey guys, I am still using an odexed version of GB, it is very fast and stable but does the memory improve in ICS or JB, the problem with the sgs as you know is the memory I just want to know if ICS or JB use less memory then GB.
do you recommend to change?
For me battery life was a bit better on JB, depends really on the kernal you use though,
with performance, depends on the ROM you are using, for example i found that some roms where slow, and had poor battery life, while others were extremely fast and had good battery life.
Im currently using X-bean 1.0 and i am very happy with it

I tried several JB roms and in my feelings JB boot much longer, maybe something is wrong with my phone ? :crying:
The current best one is X-Bean. I've tried all of them and X-Bean is by far the most usable rom that is available currently, with SlimBean + DevilKernal combo coming in second.

In my experience, boot times vary from rom to rom even within the same android version, with lighter roms having shorter boot times.
Same here, I'm using X-Bean and since now the fastest and most stable JB ROM (I used all JB's on XDA). I'm using Devils kernel and in normal usage - 1,5 day. Best battery of course on GB, but this is a small cost for performance

Stock rom vs AOSP roms

Hi! Right now i'm using stock, i am pretty happy with it smoothness is good and battery life is around 4-5 hours of SOT with undeclock at 1ghz. I want to try some kitkat based aosp custom roms, but i don't know how good they are. I only tried android 5.0 but the battery was draining fast, so... with AOSP roms i will get better smoothness and battery life? I'd like to try them all but i don't have time and a working computer. What rom do you recommend?

What he is saying is that you can do a lot of customization with a rooted phone and Xposed without flashing a custom ROM. The downside is that you are still stuck with a lot of bloat in the stock apps. There are ways to remove them but doesn't always work and can cause other problems. And there are limits to Xposed. The upside is it is less risky to go the Xposed/root/stock route.
I have tried numerous custom ROM's and they all have pros and cons. I have been on AOSP with Monster Kernel and Slim_zero_gapps_beta for a while now and am very pleased with it. Minimal OS is also quite good, but I have a custom app that I use and it didn't work with Minimal. If not for that it would be my ROM of choice.
In spite of what some people will tell you, there is no "perfect" ROM that meets all needs for all users. I suggest you try a couple and see what works for you. However, be sure you have read all you can about flashing ROM's and when you think you understand it all, read it again. Always do a nanroid backup of your current working config before flashing. Store all backups and files you need to flash on your external SD-Card. Don't switch from one ROM to another without doing a full wipe. Use TWRP 2.8.x for your recovery.
Once again be sure you have a good understanding of the steps you need to follow before flashing any ROM. I see far too many sad pleas for help from users who jumped in too quickly and have bricked their devices. Do the research before you proceed. Don't expect to led by the hand but don't be afraid to ask questions if something is not clear. Good luck my friend.
I have been using AOSP for a while, and I'm happy with it (cuz it has awesome battery backup). However, AOSP's latest build now has battery drain issue, and I have to find another ROM that is bug-free and has good battery backup.
Can anyone suggest some stable ROMs which last about 5h sot? Thanks in advance!

I am using minimal os and it is daily drive material, no bugs and smooth. Now as far the battery goes I get about 4 hours SoT with mainly browsing and gaming using emulators for about 1 hour. Then again it depends on your usuage. As I found the key is to keep the brightness as low as possible.

I'm using Minimal OS, works like a charm. Great battery and performance, also, no bugs so far.
ROMS I've seperated into category's (NOTE THIS IS IN MY OPINION)
Performance : Radium Redefined (5.0.2)bundled with Stellar Kernel (It aslo has amazing battery backup but i like it for its perfomance)
Battery : Fusion (5.1.1) with Halogen Kernel
Balanced : Minimal OS with Decipher Kernel
Overall : Titan Prime Anorexic bundled with Stellar Kernel (find this on the titan prime rom website, link in the TP thread)
Note except Minimal OS, all other ROM's ive mentioned, I've used Abhisheks battery guide (in general section of forum)

If you're going for a daily driver then I'd suggest you use stock+stellar kernel with xposed (Stellar Kernel+Amplify+PowerNap=Epicness). Minimal OS is good and all with balanced performance with decipher kernel but I'd still go with the stock.

Also try a stock based custom rom called Radium Redefined with Stellar Kernel (You won't need to flash xposed with this cause the battery backup is amazing, close to 6 hrs of screen on time)

Best marshmallow ROM for battery life?

I feel like I should be able to find this easily on my own but I'm having more trouble than I anticipated. I've been trying tons of note 7 Roms with no luck battery life wise. At this point I'm looking for any type of ROM that has great duration as long as it's marshmallow.

xposed pretty much works with odexed marshmallow stock firmware you dont need deodexed roms.
On lollipop required deodexed roms for xposed.

I am on Pk2 latest bl\modem i am using stock official firmware but i am rooted with twrp and xposed works just fine on stock rom.i am not using any deodexed rom.
I uninstalled as many built in apps as possible and i got 5hours SOT.
SOT depends on your usage i am always on wifi if i use mobile data the dafinetly i will get less SOT.
brightness always less then 25℅,black wallpaper for homescreen and lockscreen to save GPU energy.
While my device in pocket i always turn on powersaving mode to make cpu deep sleep and hibernate apps by greenify.
By this steps you will get preety good battery life.

Yep absolutely.
You have 2 choices
1st choice ,if you want stock 4.4.4 kitkat then flash N910T2 firmware in odin and do wipe data factory reset after flash .you will be on stock kitkat 100%.
2nd choice, if you want rooted roms like dynamic kat or firekat then you have to flash 5.1.1 OK1 firmware then flash twrp recovery after that from twrp flash any kitkat rom you wish but must flash nadia kernel with kitkat rom otherwise you may stuck on samsung logo because you are on lollipop bl/modem.
Nadia Kernel 4.4.4 is in link below.
https://mega.nz/#!accnkb6B!f_wdM79WXZ2UYy2El87DXYctihB40MBjV4imBKlhoDo
I will not recommend youto go back to kitkat because many apps and games required 5.0 or higher these days kitkat is almost dead but if you will use as basic phone chatting, media etc then its fine.i just noticed that even youtube does not support 1440p/1080p videos on kitkat and there is no option to change quality.
after all its your device and do as you wish i am here to help.
N910T2 stock nonrooted firmware link below
Extract and flash in odin.

So I grabbed a stock deodexed marshmallow ROM for a week or two and it is surprisingly by far the worst battery life I've ever had heh. I get like 1.5 hrs sot and I have to recharge almost twice a day.
Are there any suggestions? Both for other Roms or for fixing a stock ROM battery life?
Go back to 4.4.4. I get 7+ hours SOT. I never went to MM as I bought a 6P last Feb. I'm getting my Note 4 ready for my mom as shes moving to T-Mobile. After reading a bunch the last day or so it sounds like to much BS going on with any updates above 4.4.4. I remember 5.0 and 5.0.1 were destroying battery life which is why I never updated and 6.01 sounds like to much of a strain or wast optimized properly for the Note 4.
It works like this
Kitkat best battery life but a little choppy and some apps dont work because it to old
Lolopop 5.1.1 (not 5.0.1) is very smoth and has good battery life, but not as good as kitkat.
Marshmelow is the smoothest but has horrible battery life no matter the rom or what you do.
I tried absolutely everything and come to the conclusión that stock 5.1.1. With root + greenify y by far the option. Everything works great and i have about 5 hours sot without having to compromise anything.
I am alzó trying an app that puts the phone in 1080 but still dont know if it makes a diference or not. (ir runs cooler)

[ROM] Khongloi vs Dr.Ketan

Which rom for you is best for our Note5? And maybe another of the listed though the rest is rather unprofessional, if I'm wrong correcting me.
I prefer khongloi rom. It is noticeably smoother than the other
The benefit of these two ROMs over the debloated stock ROMs is 'not so useful' features like AOD and some additional UI settings but they come with problems like battery drain, sluggishness, poor connectivity etc....
Still im on stock because i dont find any Rom without bugs. Even a stable build of any aosp will be useful.

Stock ROM is also bad with all bloated apps draining battery like crazy. The best option available as of now is heavily Debloated Stock Nougat ROM like PureX which is ideal for India with strong connectivity, good battery , best performance and stability.
