Oooh you're on Verizon. Yeah only sprint and t mobile firmwares are available. Sorry. Hmmm I'm not sure. I guess you could take it to Verizon store. Anyone else have a suggestion?

Yeah, you'd think I could at least download the firmware through Samsung's KIES software but no matter what model i put in it keeps saying enter your model number

also when i do factory reset from boot menu i get:
dm-verity verification failed and
E:failed to mount /preload (No such file or directory)

update....tried samsung support, said KIES isn't compatible with note 5, to use smart switch. Smart Switch does the same thing - doesn't recognize model number. This is getting aggravating - seems there is no way to download the factory image for this phone and install it from a computer - i can do that with an iphone for petes sake.

Looks like you wiped the internal sd... So no OS... Your only option is your Verizon Samsung kiosk to odin flash your original firmware

Went to Verizon, they are useless, said they can't flash any software, etc. They say I need to have them send me another phone. This is making me really interested in Google's Nexus offerings next week.

try this

Yeah I tried that in boot menu smart switch doesn't even recognize it, in odin mode (download) it says unsupported device. I think smart switch is only good if you can boot into the OS which is jacked up. At this point this is worse than an iphone.

I know smart switch works on the 920I version. You have to put in your model number using capital letters.

Before I even connect the phone to the PC I enter SM-N920I. Then it asks for the serial number. And you have to use caps for the letters also.

Your SN should be on the back of your phone in small print. Mine is anyways, as well as the box it came in and a sticker that was on the back of the phone.

Yes, my IMEI, SN, and a few other things are printed on the back. Check in your download mode for your SN.

Phone does not connect to Network (started after being stuck at samsung logo)

Hi everyone,
I rooted my note and was using Jon ROM V3 for the last 3 months. Never had any malicious apps and my phone was working as usual.
Yesterday I took my phone and see that it is stuck at Samsung logo (an hour ago it was working fine). Tried reset and re-flashed ROM but no luck.
Later through download mode i flashed Official Indian Firmware(I live in India). Now I by passed the logo screen and the phone shows full signal bars but not able to connect to carrier network.
(tried all basic work out like removing battery/sim and re-inserting to phone and boot up)
I pressed power key and it did not show the power menu , it directly switched off mobile.
I rooted again with Philz kernel and flashed JON ROM. Still i see that my phone is not able to connect to any network. Also I observe that even here on this ROM when i press power key it directly turns off.
This is weird. I thought my IMEI was wiped off but im lucky to see that its still there.
I need your help. Im without my phone for the last 2 days now.
-
Jonathan
Note - I find that my IMEI number has been changed (to some generic IMEI 004999010640000) after i flashed the official firmware !!!! that's why it is not connecting to any network.
Someone please help me.
How did you flash the official firmware?
was it a tar file or a zip? I mean did you use odin?

It was a tar file The official Indian firmware I got from sammobile
either a glitch or you selected by accident clear efs.
anyways without efs backup hard to recover emei.
Do you get the simcard enter pinscreen on boot? If you dont then its not imei, if you do then you need someone like cvxcvx, search to fix it. That or Samsung

No I do not enter pin for simcard. I see my imei has been changed to 004999010640000. I tired fixing one problem and got onto another.
I guess there is no way other than sending my device to Samsung !
Anyways I appreciate your help. Thanks

You have a so called "developer IMEI". If you didn't safe your EFS then there is no real chance to restore it yourself.
There is a member (cxlcxl) who has hardware and can restore the original IMEI remotely.
But you still can use your device. Try to change the Sim Pin in the settings: you can use the same Pin for old and new (this is easier for me because sometimes I forget the new number).
After this the network connection should come back.
My workaround in my Pristine Custom Rom: one different jar-file that doesn't have the checks on startup from my old XXLSC dump. With this it works completely normal: Sim and Pin are always recognized from startup. I'm using this for many months now.

i have had my device rooted since the week i got it in october successfully, no issues. when i got the phone it was on the oi6 firmware, rooted it and put MOAR rom on it, no issues. then on the 23rd the day before i was going to go out of town i changed my primary google account password on my device, and for some reason i couldnt tell you why other than it didnt seem that it would be of any significance that OEM UNLOCK option was enabled so i turned it off not thinking anything of it, and right after i reboot the phone i found myself in a bootloop. only going to samsung galaxy note 5 powered by android with little red writing at top that says custom binary blocked by FRP lock. so i did some research and it became obvious what my issue was that the oem unlock should never had been touched. from what i figure, but that didnt validate why i was never given the chance to actually verify my account being that the device hasnt booted back into the os or any screen other than the splash screen i mentioned and download mode. thats the only two things i can access my download screen reads this

Try use Samsung KIES (or Samsung Smart Switch) on Windows PC to flash/restore your firmware. I've never had to this way though.
And BTW. This is not a "hard brick", so your thread title is misleading. It's "soft"...

They all come on the sticker that seals the two halves of the box. This is standard from Samsung.

mate, its really nothing to worry about, it isnt hard bricked,
i had the exam same issue, that oem lock can be a real pain in the arse,
all you need to do is download the firmware, and i mean not just the same android version, but the same, as in oc1 ok1, what ever version you were rocking,
in my case it was the latest firmware available on sammobile,
and flash it via odin,
after that you must wipe cache, data, and factory reset to be a able to use your phone,
once booted,
you can login with you google account, enable oem unlock from dev mode, and install custom recovery and do what you do from there.
cheers

So long as you are using genuine Samsung firmware or smart switch you do not need OEM unlocked.
If Odin is not recognizing your phone something has gone wrong with either your drivers or your phone is in a bad state.
Power down your phone, if you have to because it is restarting, catch it so you get back into download mode.
Then follow these steps exactly as they are laid out.
Open Smart Switch, click MORE, click Emergency software recovery and initialization, click device initialization, type in your model number using caps and dashes such as SM-N9200 or whatever your device is, then input your serial number again using caps for all the letters in your SN, finally connect your phone to your PC and continue with the prompts from Smart Switch.
The problem is since you have a carrier version, smart switch may not work. There was a guy who said it would not work for an AT&T phone.
Good luck.
Edit: I checked in smart switch using the sprint model number and it took it so you should be good to go.

yes i can get it in download mode ive installed the drivers from samsung website for the note 5, and installed them. is there other drivers i should install fgor it to recognize it? i also am successful in getting smart switch to recognize the SM-N920P for my phone model but i am unclear on how to obtain the serial number that smart switch wants. ive tried the dec hex the imei esn hex and the spc none of which it accepts. i have the box and it doesnt say serial number anywhere so im lost when i get to that point

That is a problem then because you need that number. It should be labeled SN and should be a mix of letters and numbers. Perhaps sprint keeps those records on file.
Good luck.

Confusing galaxy note 5!

I bought a second hand galaxy note 5, on the back cover of the phone the model is written SM-N920C but in download mode is written SM-N920d ! Nevertheless when I check the model at "setting/about the device" the model was SM-N920I
The problem started when my note 5 was flashed with venom rom then I accidentally formated all system files so the phone stuck in Android logo, I tried to flash the phone using Odin and SM-N920c but Odin said FAILED just when I click start. Now the phone is off for the battery is dead and it couldn't be charged , please help me to find the right flash and is there any way to flash it without download mood?
Use Kies and do an emergency recovery. It'll also be able to determine the actual model number. You probably didn't update the bootloader when usong Venom or something. Usually you want to update to the official marahmallow and then flash after that.

Thanks for your comment, I did that already but kies does not support emergency recovery for Note 5 SM-N920c!
I've used it once on my 920c when I initially messed something up. You may need to invoke download mode. Turn the phone off and hold home, volume down and power.
Oh, and there's a modern version of kies which works for modern Samsung phones only.
Did you install a custom recovery immediately after rooting? Always do this first.

N920d or N9200?
In your case, I would go with what is mentioned in the download mode since the back glass can be replaced with another model and ROM flashing can alter model # sometimes.
PS: you need to be sure that it was an original Note 5, not just a copy. I'd recommend taking it to the nearest service center to have it checked out.

Because that firmware does not exist.
It's either 920C or 920CD (for dual-sim) or 9200 for Chinese models.
The first two will have similar firmwares but the 9200 uses different one.
Have you verified exactly which model it is? What does Kies mention when you connect?

As per my search on google, the n920D is Docomo variant.
I haven't been able to find the stock firmware anywhere as of yet.
Flash a custom recovery for your variant (TWRP>others) and then flash a custome ROM that is compatible with 920D.
There must be some on XDA itself.

Hi, i have a Note 8 N950XU with Snapdragon, it worked fine with the pre installed Demo ROM, but i installed the N950U Firmware and since then it shows me Security Error: Unauthorized Software has been flashed bla bla bla, as you can see on the attached picture. I even got the original N950XU Demo Firmware and flashed it, but still shows me the same error! Anyone knows how to fix this ? Odin passes through with no error, but the phone never boots up, only the security error. I just want my phone back to working order :crying:

SM-N950XU is NOT a device to be sold to customers, but for retailers only!
Where did you get this device?
The solution is on the screen...

Can you enter in mode download?
I wonder if the demo model has a locked bootloader?

Hello. I actually have the same model. I'm wondering how I could flash another firmware to replace it. How can I root and install a custom recovery to this device?
Also own a s8

Go to a Samsung Service Point and ask there; or are you afraid to lose your device because Demo-units aren't for sale to customers?

How are people even getting these? Are they stolen from retailer store fronts? These should not even be out in the wild. SMH.

I don't know what that is. It's not connected to any carrier. SM-N950XU
BlueFox's thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884
I believe you would have to use Prince's Odin to so which is also in that thread.
Looks like your just trying to flash another carrier's or other official firmware. Don't need unlocked bootloader or oem unlock for that. Don't know if your version has an unlocked bootloader but I am curious.

Not gonna work on N950XU, that's what the OP is about. These are retailer demo units and you can't just flash other models' firmwares onto it.

I believe they do, but they also have the security check which was tripped by the OP when he tried flashing 950U firmware. The question is whether there's a way to get around it, which I am not qualified to answer. But I am still wondering how these retailer demo units are ending up in private hands.

Right. Probably ex demo units that get sold off before too much screen burn occurs. I don't know to be honest.
I remember reading somewhere the radios don't work on them hence they needed a new main board to function fully. But that was just a random post I'd come across that I recalled.

I actually recall reading something similar. But I also remember being able to make a call with demo units, could be wi-fi calling though, so I dunno.

I bought it off of the let's-go app. I have no idea

N950F/DS Android Pie Root?

Hey guys,
I just bought a Note8 and looks like I am having difficulty rooting it because of IMEI. The phone is already on Android 9 but the problem is with the IMEI. I think my mobile IMEI is already modified because in the About section it's showing different IMEI and in "Device Info" app it's showing different IMEI and also "Device Info" showing Root Access Available which in the fact I don't have because the recovery is still on stock. I cannot access any banking app because they are showing the device already rooted.
I want your guidance on how to root this device so I can use the Magisk module to hide the root without end up in the IMEI issue or something.
Thanks.

Go to developer options (click on the build number about 7 times in about phone/software information, it will then appear in the settings menu) Is the OEM toggle on? If it is, turn it off, reboot, and your banking app should work. (Clear the bank app data in setting before reboot)
I am not sure about your IMEI problem, hopefully someone will know though, I would advise not rooting though as it may break your IMEI entirely.

I was hoping that the OEM toggle was enabled, so at least you could use your banking app. Your bank app must just be more secure than mine (Co Op)
You can't root the phone until the OEM toggle appears anyway, the phone has to be on for 168 hours for it to appear, If I remember correctly. The thread below may work for you to get the OEM toggle now, rather than having to wait all those hours. It is hit and miss though, and may take a few attempts.

I don't know anything about your IMEI troubles, I would advise not rooting until you get confirmation that it will be okay from an experienced user here. If you don't get a reply, just bump the thread.

I have a funny feeling you've been conned and you have a china cloned phone.
Can you take a photo of the download mode and also some photo in the phone settings menu. Any menu will do.

Yes. You have a Korean note 8 but forcefully flashed with international rom.
You can try to flash in a prerooted rom.
Try searching for Dr Ketan note 8 custom rom. He's rom is the closest to stock rom as you'll ever find, and has magisk up and ready to run.
But please ask him about your situation. I'm not sure how it would affect a Korean note 8.
