Just wondering... as I have become mildly obsessed with spinning my phone on its back on flat surfaces. It spins nice and smooth with little friction and is quite satisfying. I'll often even use it as a sort of "spin the bottle" method of choosing if myself or my friend will get "home field advantage" first in FIFA 16.
I would be too afraid to. I wouldn't want to scratch up my phone

I'm contemplating swapping out the back for a different color, or slapping on a D-Brand skin anyways. That being said this has been spun 1000+ revolutions and I can't see any scratches or scuffs.
Lol, I've been doing this lately!!!! When it spins it kind of looks like an xperia, but that's just me

Try setting your front facing camera to record video; you can get some pretty neat results with the spinning!
Haha that's awesome, I do this when I'm bored at work. I actually have one of those cheap rubber cases so not worried about scratches, but doesn't spin as good with it on first world problems lol
I don't spin it mostly because I'm afraid to knock over my beer!
Get a tpu case.
I've been spinning mine since I got it in February. It replaced me spinning my N5 in my fingers .
Haha, I do this too. It spins great, yeah.
Last night I polished up the ole table and gave her a good rip. She did at least 40 revolutions, before stopping with the top pointing at my beer. That's home field advantage in FIFA 16!

funny
I thought I had seen every imaginable post until I ran across this, very funny and imaginative on the spin the phone action however I don't see myself spinning my phone anytime soon, but it seems like a fun concept, what's the record on RPM's?

I wonder if there is an app that can utilize the gyroscope to estimate the RPM!
So I tried this app which is likely not very accurate at high speeds since it's designed for record players, however I appear to be in the 300RPM region with a somewhat casual spin:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apkossa.rpmeter&hl=en
yes! some people are on their phones when at the table, but im just spinning my phone on the table. there is a distinct buffed spot 1.125" below the moto symbol on my spigen slim armor, with an oblong 1.75" diameter halo around that buffed spot, made of small scufffs.

Difficult to put the N6 in the right position on the QI-pad for wireless charging.
Two small rubber strips prevent spinning on the QI-pad, but than other (flat) devices will not charge.
Using the M-charger than the cable prevents spinning.
After your post I leave it uncharged just for the spinning. But I got complains. Some people cannot phone me. Had to stop the spinning and use it again as phone.

So i just dropped my phone from head height onto a concrete floor
It slipped out of my hand while i was talking as i bumped into someone.

It survived! no marks, i'm not sure how it landed, but it was screen down on the floor when i found it.
Has anyone else dropped theirs and how has it managed? I'm sure we'd all like to know how much abuse it actually can handle.
same happens here...
and it dropped exactly the same way as yours did..haah
just like yours, no scratch and yet nth bad happened yet
Would have been even funnier if u were the one i bumped into lol
I think the cut off corners on the back really help. The back is heavier due to the battery and if it falls on a corner it seems to fall on the back cut off corner.
What a nightmare
i had 2 accidents. one of them "bent" the soft aluminum in the corner. still black and still working. the second one was so powerful that dissembled my diamond in 3 pieces: diamond (lol), cover and battery. i found the battery 2 meters from the disaster scene. this PDA seems to be a sturdy SOB..
any way, don't try this at home folks!!!1

Nice to know it can survive a few knocks! It must have been one of those oh **** moments. Did the guy actually stop to apologise, I would have probably thumped him one, not that i advocate physically attacking someone LOL
So was it rough concrete, like paving stones, or something smooth like a tilled floor?
I sat in a recliner chair outside the other day and lay back. My diamond slipped out of my pocket onto a concrete floor from about a height of 30-40cm. There's now a small (very small) dent in the aluminium bit, bottom right, near the stylus slot.
It's hardly noticable, but I was gutted at the time!

not a diamond but...
Twice now I've had accidents with my Polaris on the running machine. The phone was resting in the slot on the machine while I was running. I must have knocked the headphone cable or something because the phone got yanked from the slot, dropped (about chest height) onto the treadmill and went flying back into the wall behind. Not even a scratch!
OUCH!!
<10 chars>
dropped mine from waist height....
my waist is probably higher than most of your ears lol JOKE lol again but anyways I got a little tiny scratch on the stylus....I guess thats why they give you 2 of those puppies....I love it. You know its a little heavier than most pdas from the metal frame but yes its a tough SOB and also I heard that the screen is made of some kind of really special plexiglass to prevent cracks. I heard you can drop it from a two story building and the glass will not crack!!! I would definately not try this at home but its what I heard....
I dropped it on the way back from the pub!!
The metal bezel now has three deep lines in it on the front side under the hardware buttons Fortunatly its still black
The top of the bezel on the front also has 3 scartches which have exposed the silver metal underneath.
what a disaster!
You remember that James Bond Movie with the evil guy having Diamonds in his face?
Well, my device slipped out of my hands , glided a meter or 2 on the parking ground and has now similar small dots (diamonds) on the lower part and casing.
But no worries, I gonna let "tune" paint & polish my Diamond.
They ask 150 NTD (5US) for refurbushing a PDA phone here

Hmm i thought it was just me at first, but i've been checking all day, and my touch screen has become ALOT more sensative since the drop.
I actually had a phone call and while trying to fumble to pick up the call i dropped the phone. When i picked it up the touchscreen wouldnt work. After a reboot it was fine again. Now the lightest touch registers on the screen. Very wierd, but the scartches almost seem worth it to have it working so well.
I hope it doesnt die on my now :s

I have it. Its kinda bad, and good at the same time. When I washed up in the morning, I must vacuum our it bothers me.
When I am in the car, if there is too many drinks/bottles, I have to throw them away.
When I am at my desk, everything has to be straight and minimal stuff on it. Maybe like a water bottle and a cable, but that's pushing it.
Even my desktop (computer) is clean all I have on my desktop is the recycle bin and whatever projects I am working on.

Same Here I dont even use a screen protector I just treat it well
I've always had a minimal OCD attitude, but ARMY Basic Training sure as hell fixed that.. due to everything having to be 10,000% organized...
Now, when it comes to home, I usually only go OCD on the rooms I access the most (except for my desk area)... Living Room, Kitchen, Office, and my Bedroom.
BUT :: When it comes to my phone(s)... I'm very OCD... possibly too much. I buy new screen protectors for each device atleast twice a month, I despise smudges, so I RARELY actually touch my screen with my fingers. And even when I'm holding my main phone, I always have a cleaning cloth between my palm and the phone. It's actually quite sad.
I am also OCD with my my phone too. Every time I see a smudge on it, I wipe it, right away. I also own about 10+ microfiber clothes for my computer, phone, and iPad.
Once I get done eating, I don't touch my phone, I must clean my hands before I even take it out my pocket.
Whenever my friends ask to see my phone, I ask if there hands are greasy/dirty. I rarely give it to them because of fear they might break it.
When I had my iPhone, I had 4 cases because none of them were good enough to protect.
I am also going to order a tough case from Case-Mate, since my barely there isn't protecting much.
I ordered some Realooks when I first got my phone, since I didn't want to scratch them phone.
That's my story of OCDness. yay

There's no need for a screen protector on most of the new hTC's with glass screens (hero etc). So I just polish the fingerprints off with my m'fibre cloth

Something for people to try:
See if you can keep the phone from sliding holding onto only the glass. So put your thumb on one side and your fingers on the other and pinch then hold the phone up vertical. Squeeze as hard as you want (but dont break the LCD), I bet nobody can keep the phone from slowly sliding down no matter how hard they try. I recommend holding it near the Nexus logo so you can see it move since it will be sliding very very slowly. Try both hands.
Ive noticed that this thing simply sticks to NOTHING, this Gorilla Glass 2 surface is very slippery and I wish they would have gone for something more grippy on the back since my phone has slid off things that are virtually flat a few times already. It seems like any amount of gravity will cause this thing to slide.

Yeah, the iPhone 4 and 4S had this problem too. If you went naked they would slide off anything and everything, even things you thought were flat. Hopefully invisible shield comes out with a back protector. I hate Invisible shields on the front because they're slightly tacky, but for the back it would be great at protecting and preventing the phone from sliding.
Isn't the glass suppose to be slippery? You want your finger to glide across it easily while using the phone. Not sure what the issue is, who grips their phone this way? If you do, stop it.
Not having any issue gripping the phone this way. On the other hand I have noticed the phone being susceptible to "death grip".
Yeah I've found on numerous occasions where I would set my phone down on what I THOUGHT was a flat surface, walk away and come back only to find my phone on the floor. This thing I'd crazy slippery. I'm picking up a bumper from someone off Craigslist tonight for a good deal and am hoping it will help at least a little.

What's the death grip on the N4?
From iFixit's tear down they show contact points of the antennas in the upper third of the back plate. But they never took the back apart to see where the leads go. Is the death grip the top half of the phone? If so that's good, because with the size of the N4 people will most likely grip it along the bottom half and along the bottom edge.
I called it an issue, but I actually like it slippery in the back.
I totally love the feel of the phone. I just thought it was crazy how it would just slide off of seemingly flat surfaces. I had my closed laptop sitting on the dining room table, phone on top of the laptop. Walked away for a few minutes and came back to find the phone on the floor. Instantly blamed my wife. Lol.

I when I hold the phone 2 handed (eg when surfing the web) the bars drop dramatically and in places with weak signal just holding the phone (bottom half one handed like for a phone call) I'll completely lose signal. Actually I'd say in general, compared to my HD2 and Sensation the signal strength is poor on this phone.

x2. I am waiting it out to do more testing and see what happens with updates but I have also noticed the dramatic signal loss depending on how you hold the phone. At my house I consistantly get 2-3 bars on my Lumia 920 (and did on my S3, Note, etc). With the N4 I get 3 occasionally, but most of the tiem if I am holding the phone its at 1 bar, and if I hold it in certain ways loses signal all together.

It's already out
A tiny gripe for the perfectionists. But I noticed after a day, that I had a couple of tiny little nicks in the aluminium. As the phone had just been lying on my desk and hadn't been taken outside it must have come that way. I didn't see them at first because they are on the edges and not on the back surface. It is very tiny and it was because it caught the light that I noticed it. I remember when the iPhone 5 came out there were scores of people with chips on the black iPhones that showed silver underneath. This is nowhere near as bad as that....just the light catching the fact that the surface is not quite flat. I had the same with an iPhone 4 a few years ago as well. Seems to me that aluminium is very dingable, even in the factory.
Anyone else notice this?

I tried to take a photo of it, but I am going to need someone at home to help me take the picture as its all about getting the light angled correctly so that its clear in the picture. So I will need someone to hold the phone at the right angle so I can get a picture to show. I will try and see if I can get a picture shortly. It is a silver phone, the only colour available right now.
It's not possible to make it 'perfect' so there will be slight defects.
Mine has a tiny little mark on the top that unless you really look for it in certain light its not possible to really see.
Unless there's a real dent or chip on the casing, it shouldn't be a problem. I know it can annoy perfectionists but man, that is aluminium, it is understandable (to an extent, of course)

Haha...I hope the metal is not SO soft such that it would be possible!
I have wondered if a fingernail is able to nick the edges of the metal. The anodising is only on the back surface. So the bevelled edges will be more suceptible. It is the edge where I noticed a couple of tiny nicks.
I was reading that a fingernal has a hardness of 2.5 (on some scale that I forget the name of). And aluminium is 2.5-3. This would suggest a fingernail striking the edge of the phone could put a nick it. But I am not willing to try intentionally to do so!

Mohs scale! Yeah, they do overlap on the hardness scale, and nails have a history of being able to scratch aluminum (take Macbooks, for instance).
Yeah my wife came in the room yesterday and said when she pressed the power button, her finger nail scratched the silver lightly. looks like someones drawn a line with a lead pencil by the power button now. might try to buff it out but afraid if i wear the area down it will all go a dull grey.

Have you ever tried growing your nails out super long? The pads of your fingers begin to cease to exist.
This is weird. And yes aluminum does indeed has a weak mohs scale and that's the main reason why they anodize it. Now when anodized the mohs scale increases to 9 so how would a fingernail even scratch that?
i can assure you that it does scratch with false fingernails regardless of any specifications.

I dont believe all of the aluminium is anodised though. The back surface certainly is. But there is a bevelled edge which is almost shiny like a mirror, and I think that area is not treated and is also where I found a couple of tiny nicks (seen when angled under a spotlight) out of the box. It is unfortunately also the most likely bit to be hit knocked, swiped with a fingernail etc.

Could you post a picture of that bevelled edge? I'm not sure what you're saying but HTC One is unibody. And when you anodize aluminum you submerge the whole body into a solution. So it's quite impossible that some parts get's anodized and some aren't.

Hehe, looks cool. I wouldn't be too worried about the side edges where you have the vinyl in the picture at least as that part is plastic anyway. The "faces" of the case, are sometimes else and designed to radiate heat, so I'd be careful covering them.
I'm afraid you might live to regret that decision! LOL
As soon as that unit cooks and the glue starts melting the covering will eventually come off and all you will be left with is a sticky tacky CCast! LOL
