Moto Voice on KitKat after downgrade from Lollipop - Moto X Q&A

I have an unlocked XT1060 (not dev edition). Was running Krypton 1.4 KitKat (4.4.4) for a long time, but decided to try out Lollipop. Didn't like it, so restored KitKat from TWRP backup. Everything is working fine, except Google Play Store is showing an update for Moto Voice app. If I install this update, it prompts me to retrain activation phrase, but microphone doesn't recognize any sound during retraining, and "OK Google Now" doesn't work. If I uninstall the Moto Voice update, "OK Google Now" works again. Any way I can prevent Play Store from wanting to update Moto Voice?

Fixed it. In case anyone else runs into this problem, the solution was to turn off Touchless Control in settings and then freeze it using TB, reboot, defrost Touchless Control, allow Play Store to update it, then enable in settings.

Touchless control won't open Google Now

EDIT: Cancel that, I uninstalled and reinstalled Touchless control from the Play Store and everything appears to be working!
I just got my phone rooted on the latest stock VZW build using rockmymoto. I had played around with the new 4.4 apk's and launcher, but decided to go back to Nova. I did have trouble with Google search force closing, so I replaced the velvet.apk in system\app and changed the permissions. I went through and did everything I could to get all the stock apps back. It looks like the velvet.apk in there now is correct. The only other thing I changed was the lib file that was supposed to fix the FCs, and recently installed the Xposed framework (no modules). Now when I attempt to search via Touchless Control, a.k.a. "OK Google Now", a small popup says "Opening Google Search", and nothing happens. Ideas?
Also, if I do a factory data reset, will I lose root (it's OK if I do), and/or will anything get messed up?

Google Assistant on 6.0.1?

Has anyone successfully gotten Google Assistant to work on their Turbo? I'm rooted running Xposed with the Assistant Enabler module, but no luck. Thanks for your advice in advance.
Yes. I have an XT1225 but am running RR 6.1 with Nova Launcher and xposed module Assistant Enabler.
In Nova Launcher I have OK Google hotword enabled. Not sure if all that makes a difference (using Nova Launcher), but even with my phone locked (pattern code), I can say "OK Google" and the Google Assistant will unlock the phone and verbally answer.
I know you are running rooted stock, but I can't see how that makes any difference since it's xposed module doing the work.

OK Google Need Re-Setup on every boot

I'm currently running 7.1.1 PN and Nitro and cannot get OK Google to stick with the settings after any boot. Particularly, I have to go through the setting up of Ok Google for when the screen is on or off. Anyone have a fix or experience this issue?

Google Assistant?

Solution 1: assuming you had OK Google working on Pure Nexus 12/15 and a nandroid backup, dirty flash the 1/6 ROM only over the 12/15 version and voice commands continue to function.
Solution 2: already mentioned above. Chop Assistant sets up an accessibility service which kills the training prompt so the Google Assistant is usable. Note however that you will not be able to summon Google Assistant with the screen off if using Chop Assistant.
So I had it working on previous versions but I don't remember which ones. Plus I do not have a nandroid of them on my device. I still can't get it to stick though by uninstalling, doing the prompt, updating then installing the GA zip. Any ideas.

How do I enable Google Assistant? Have latest Google play services & Google App.

I have Google play services version 11.0.47 : I have signed up for beta testing on Google play
Google App version : 7.2.20.21
Language : English (US)
I have tried clearing all data under "Manage Data" for both the apps and restarted.
But I still get only Google now on tap. Not Google Assistant. What am I missing?
My phone : Moto X 2014 : purchased in the US, never rooted.
Same for my wife and I. Same phone, same situation. Can't find anyone or any forum that has a solution. Must be a problem with Google and Motorola.

You can try this way
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/android-7-0-google-assistant-t3535257
Success for me.
Finally found a fix
No root or side loading required, and unlike what it says in the post, it activates with a home button long press!
I tried the first option. Let me know if it works! https://www.xda-developers.com/get-google-assistant-on-android-lollipop-marshmallow-nougat-tablets-without-root/

Voice wake up Google App

So I use the "ok Google" wake up feature quite a bit, but a couple of days ago it just stopped working and the on off setting for it is grayed out. Any ideas? I'm running stock.

May be something that inadvertently made Bixby the default assistant? (Just ballparking) Also I've been going nuts wondering why sometimes when I access APPS I have to re-register for some... Found out it was because I had left Secure Folder active in my button array.

I thought about that too. Google is still my default assistant app. It comes up and works fine when I hold my home button. Might try disabling Bixby all together.
Bixby should work with Google Assistant perfectly fine. Have you installed any other voice app? Cortana? Alexa?
Try to re-train Google for your voice again if you can.
Was Google Assistant updated recently?
