New T-Mobile update is live! - T-Mobile HTC One (M9)

It doesn't say much other than security patch but it's over 530MB.

Just downloaded it... Wonder why the heavy payload..

Can still achieve root after this update?

My understanding is that Google provided a patch to vendors on September 10th; is this incorrect?
EDIT: looks like Google shared info with manufacturers September 10th, but the patch is coming Oct. 5th to Nexus users...and to the rest of us, hopefully soon!

Why when I try to update it brings me to my teamwin recovery thing instead of auto updating

You need to flash the stock recovery

Downloaded the update and Zimperium's Stagefright Detector app still shows CVE-2015-3876 & 6602 are still vulnerable. Hopefully the next release fixes this.

Just enable unlock bootloader from developer options. You'll get an error when you try to unlock using htcdev but it still unlocks. Just tried it today.

Decided to do it, but chose the "All other devices" option in HTC Dev. I chose the T-Mobile M9 option before and the unlocking didn't work for some reason.

I've had my M9 about 2 weeks and just got the update to 2.7.531.6 today (had to RUU back to stock for that) and wanted to get it fully updated, but when I run the OTA checker, it says there are no further updates. Is there some mandatory delay between updates, or did 2.11.531.19 get pulled?

Haven't looked at the zip yet, but I found it at /cache/fumo/OTAPkg.zip and it was dated today.

Edit: just took a peek at it, and it looks like it's mostly patching files in system, rather than flashing an all new system image. But the new version looks like it's "1.08.502.4".
i got a update notice 2 days ago but i already have twrp recovery and couldnt update with that recovery.
My wife's is not unlocked yet hopefully this isn't Att blocking the unlock process. Because the thing is just going to do it probably before I get a chance tonight. But I wouldn't put it past them. They have been trying to get HTC to exclude our Att phones from dev unlock since HTC put up the site...

Was still able to unlock. But not sure if they have patched for s-off... Haven't tried to do that(the wifes phone and she doesn't want me to do s-off).

according to s-off crew, moonshine is most likely blocked with this OTA. There is a possible workaround and I will be doing the procedure this weekend and posting up a tutorial if it works.
If I am unlocked, rooted and have s-off can i safely take the update? It automatically started downloading on my phone and the only thing I can do to stop it is turn off all data.
A prompt response is highly appreciated, thank you.

If you have a custom recovery(and why wouldn't you?) then you have nothing to worry about. It won't update with a custom recovery. It will just fail and that's it.

Question on the s-off front. My wife had to take the update before I could stop it but she doesn't want s-off anyway. My question is if it is needed for anything I would want to do... Such as running a 4.2.2 Sense 5 port from the htc mini... I have the htc one and I know that there was no real good reason for s-off(i did it anyway of course...) but I also know each phone is a little different. So thus my question... Sorry if this is too noobish...

no. fastboot flash boot boot.img solves all problems. but s-off is non-destructive on the data so if you want to give it a try and report back it would be appreciated. It would save me time this weekend.
But I understand its the wife's. My wife won't let me touch her phones after the first 4 hours....lol

i installed the update and S-Off stayed, however if i try to unlock my bootloader the phone will go into a boot loop.
I unlocked the bootloader, installed cmw in fastboot usb mode, flashed the superuser then relocked the bootloader and everything worked fine. I installed the awesome beats package too without having to unlock the boot loader.

Yes this is a bug with s-off. Not just the aftermarket s-off. This is even happening with factory s-off devices. Not really sure what is causing it. Sometime I will sit down and try to get a dmesg and logcat of it to determine what is going on.

Once you are unlocked you don't updates anymore. You have to wait until one of the Dev's create a modified firmware update.
EDIT: Actually never do a OTA if you are S-Off. There may not be an exploit yet and will have to wait until there is to regain S-OFF.

Not true.. Once you are S-OFF you stay S-OFF even after an HBOOT update. This is assuming that you are still using the stock odex ROM with stock recovery.

How to get OTA from your Device:
1. When an update is available, let it download. After the download completes, when it asks for intalling, give install later.
2. Connect your device in Storage mode and search the memory card for "OTA"
How to Install OTA:
1. Download OTA file
2. Rename it 'update.zip' (not update.zip.zip)
3. Put on root of SD card
4. Boot phone into HBOOT
5. Select recovery
6. Select Update from Zip
7. Select 'install update.zip from SD card'

Flash the rom along with the firmware.
But if you wanted to flash the update from sprint it's not that hard. You would need Sprints stock recovery flashed on your device (it's in one of Captains threads) and your software would need to have all of the files the OTA wants to update since it fails if it doesn't find all the files it is changing. Other than that take the update, let it finish and boot up, and then flash twrp (or cwm), flash SU, and you're back to rooted.

So is there a method for clean flashing or i just flash over a rom using fastboot? I tried flashing a retail rom on my tmobile variant, it work but some things were broken.

When the update first came out, the December path I think, it was simply generic Android security updates, nothing specific to our phone or fixes, at least for the TMobile version
