Hello, I have an S3 I9305T for my brother and I'm looking to upgrade it to 4.4.4. The I9305T does not have a 4.4.4 build so I have downloaded the New Zealand I9305 build as it is the closest country of all the options and I am wondering if this will give us any issues being that we are on Vodafone in Australia. From what I have read there is a 4G band difference between the two devices, is this okay? Also the hardware differences have not been made clear between the two devices and if they will bring any complication to using alternate ROM's from other device variants. My final question is if I will be able to downgrade from the official 4.4.4 New Zealand ROM back to the current 4.3 Vodafone Australian ROM without bricking the device and how to do this safely to prevent any cross-version errors between data, keeping in mind that this device is not rooted.
Thank you very much for your time, it is much appreciated!
i'm not sure about bands. Could be that 4G might not work out of the box but could be fixed by flashing a different modem. You cannot downgrade from 4.4 to 4.3

Thank you for your response!
So just to clarify, putting the 4G bands aside will I be okay to flash the I9305 New Zealand 4.4.4 ROM on the Australian I9305T model?
Yes, you can flash the rom
Okay, thanks a lot for that! Out of curiosity have you done this yourself or know of anyone who has? Also if I have to do this again in the future is there a way of figuring out if I'll be okay to flash the alternate devices ROM or is it based on experience?
Cheers man!
no, i have the international i9305. Winxuser (who builds unofficial CM 12.1) has the Australian model and the ROMs work for your device. Same specs etc. just different bands support for LTE

I have UK version of the i9305 which I got from Orange/EE and have had it unlocked using a code. I want to know if there is an unbranded rom for the UK i9305 as I can't seem to find one anywhere and the orange rom is rubbish to say the least
I don't think there is a UK unbranded Rom. You can flash the Luxembourg unbranded Rom with Odin.

What do you mean by branded? What do you have on it?
I have the T-Mobile version and my initial Rom had no branding on it at all, perhaps Orange is different!
Still any of the Roms from the dev section have all branding removed but it will obviously invalidate your warranty (which you can revert) but then putting an unbranded rom on would do the same anyway!
EDIT: If you mean Samsung brabded then currently there are NO ASOP roms available for the 9305 but I feel the TouchWiz framework offers more at this point in time anyway. You can always just add a Launcher like Apex for the look and feel.
When I got my GT-I9305 it had a t-mobile label on the box and I am with orange! There does not seem to be any of the bloatware from orange I have had on previous devices. These EE roms don't seem to be branded.

What about the ported XXELKC 4.1.2 ROM?

All the roms from the dev section are unbranded, I still want to know what branding the OP is referring to and why they refer to the rom as being rubbish? This will then give us a little more info to work with and help them out!
In fact I have not come across any 9305 oms that have been branded official or not!

The Telstra I9305T is crippled in that the user is unable to change the icons in the dock. That's the reason why I rooted and flashed a custom ROM on my 9305.

Oh right! Cool. So you're running 4.1.2 but not an official release just a custom yeah? That's alright. I'm 'trying' to stick to official ROM's for the time being (I've only just converted to Android from iOS).

1) can I flash a stock i9305 or does it have to be a i9305T based ROM? - where can I get these?
2) should I run triangle away in CM10.1 then flash the stock ROM, and run SU to unroot?
3) after all that is done I still have CWM right? how do I return that to stock?

1) Yes you'll need a I9305T based rom, it's to do with basebands and 4G (e.g. i9305 can't do 4G in Australia while i9305T can...)
2) I forget how it is with triangle away, but that's up to you. Whether or not that red exclamation mark bothers you or not. Also it'll automatically unroot when you flash the stock rom via Odin. So no worries about that!
3) CWM will be removed (stock recovery restored/added) and any custom kernels will be gone too.
Good luck, but becareful with Odin. If you don't feel certain about something, look it up on YouTube (as their explanations will be better as you'll be able to view it).
Hope this helped

Research before you come and talk...
"The I9305 is the European version and the difference is:
The I9305 operates on the LTE800 & LTE2600MHz bands
The I9305T operates on the LTE1800 & LTE2600MHz bands
Therefore the I9305 will not currently operate in 4G mode in Australia (will only operate in 2G or 3G mode) as Australia is currently using the LTE1800MHz band (both Telstra & Optus).
If you are living overseas and want to visit Australia, then the I9305 will work (not at it's full potential though). If you live in Australia buy the I9305T."

Good day to you sir...
I live in Australia and have both t and international versions. Both work on 4g. I stand corrected if he wants to go back to stock on t version.
But you are wrong about the T version only doing 4g here. Both t and non t work perfectly here and you can use either rom on both its the modem that's specific that was my point.

The thing is, you're stating that Telstra themselves lied when they said using an i9305 Rom/firmware package is not something that is recommended and hasn't been tested.
They also said that there is a difference...
Also, they way you came and said that was 'bull' was childish and plain rude.
I answered the question correctly and showed facts.
You've done nothing but call part of my explanation 'bull' and nag about how there is then no difference when clearly there is.
Next time I recommend you be more friendly when claiming someone is wrong.
I recommend you leave it at that, cause I am.

First of all, hi.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active I9295 with android 4.2.2 and I've seen on internet that 4.4 is out, but not for all devices.
I didn't received any notification through wi-fi, i checked for updates even using kies but no result.
I just want to ask.. can I update using another 4.4 version ? (from nordic countries or germany or etc).. without carrier-locking my phone ?
Do you recommend me any official 4.4. rom that would be compatible with my phone ?
And, not at least, are there any improvements in battery on Kit Kat ? (that's the reason I want to update, my battery sucks).
Right now I have baseband I9295XXUBML3; VERSION NUMBER JDQ39.I9295XXUBML3, KERNEL VERSION [email protected] #1.
Please answer as soon as possible.

It is safe to flash any other i9295 firmware. When the firmware for your country is released you can just reflash.
I'm still not sure.. are there any reasons to take the risk ?
I've seen a lot of people complaining about wi-fi and having to flash modem separately.. and so on.
So, it is 100% safe ? and are there any improvements which deserve the risk ?i
Hi,
i got this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2764500
works like a charm, for me.
I'm still on 4.2.2 as well as there has been no official update for me yet. Yay for Eastern Europe.
From what I've heard 4.4 should handle the battery a little better and microSD cards a lot worse. Apparendly Android 5 (Lollipop?) will fix the SD card trouble, look a lot more like Ubuntu Touch (rumoured Q4 2013 :silly: ) and will only take a few months until it is out (rumoured Q4 2014). So you can flash twice or wait and flash once. It depends on how you use your phone, though I doubt S4A will be getting Android 5 as an official Samsung update.
The flashing guides are good enough to minimize the risk either way.
Official OTA came for this firmware.. Kies didn't find any update btw.
I'll come with an edit or something else after it finishes.
// So far so good.
Everything works like a charm, battery looks promising, can't tell until a full charge.
Love white battery indicator.
Not big modifications btw, i'd have loved if they put S5 UI...
i have a device with basically the exact kernel, baseband version and build number, but i have no OTA update, and kies don't find any update, any idea why ?
baseband > I9295XXUBML3
kernel > 3.4.0-2015525 [email protected]#1

No. The firmwares ate optimized for specific regions, but they do not lock you in to a carrier. The major difference between the different versions will be the modems and the APN settings, so you may find that you get better signal with one version as opposed to another.
Hopefully somebody else can chime in and share their experience.
I want to download an update i saw on the sam mobile website.
So i can download and install any official firmware for i9295 on my phone, regardless the baseband, version number, etc? Right?!
My current carrier will still be working right?

I just bought my second I9305 (first one was stolen) and it doesn’t connect to any network band. It is the same International model I had before that worked perfectly. I’m not sure if it has some country code limitation, but the frequencies and bands should be the right ones.
The phone is stock version. Baseband version XXUEMK1.
I’m not sure if I should flash to another Baseband. My cellular service provider works LTE at 1800 frequency and Band 3.
Any clues about what I should do?
Thanks

Which is your stock firmware version JB 4.1.2 ? JB 4.3, or ?

If you want to be sure your phone is OK, just reflash via ODIN your stock firmware from your country (and if you want from your carrier), it includes PDA, CSC and MODEM . Be sure your phone is an internationnal model i9305 and download your firmware HERE or HERE. I recommand this GUIDE from MaHo_66 xda member.

I can`t confirm, but with the the Service Mode you can force the band you will.Have you read the post I linked?Your partner, also from Venezuala wanted to force the band 5 -3G, and according to reported- it works. Then, using Service Mode you can force the band you will.
You need to first install the 4.4.4 Rom and then if it doesn`t work normally use Service mode.

@hbergold, about KNOX, you told me you have an Android 4.3 build, so if it's an official one, you already have a KNOX bootloader (the one from sammy Android 4.3).
About bootloaders:
- if you ever flash 4.3 or 4.4 via Odin or updated from OTA you have new Bootloader from android 4.3 or from 4.4.4.
- if you bought your device and you dont know what bootloader you have, turn off your phone, reboot to download mode (hold power + volume down +home buttons) and when is there Knox flag 0x1 you have new bootloader and you are warranty off. When Knox flag is there 0x0 you have also new bootloader, but you are still in warranty and when you'll flash any custom recovery or unofficial firmware via Odin, you'll have then Knox 0x1 and you will be warranty off - so it's on your deciding. When isn't in download mode any records about about Knox, you still have old bootloader (from android 4.1.2).
- since the new sammy Android 4.4.4 bootloader, now there is also a line in blue color saying ´´SECURE DOWNLOAD : ENABLED''
About @MaHo_66 's opinion, please read here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56506775&postcount=12. I hope he will not find any problem of sharing his post
I also recommand to upgrade to an Android 4.4.4 build but it's your choice and it depends on what you want to do with your phone (install custom ROM or not = warranty stuffs / if you want to sell the phone later, ....). Also I think you will not be able to flash any older official build (Android 4.1.2 or 4.3) if you upgrade to 4.4.4 because of the bootloader. I recommand it mainly because there is no more this random ******* stuck mdm_hsic_pm0 wakelock issue appeared since sammy Android 4.3 and which was a big problem for battery life. And also because it's smoother and faster.
I hope for you that @viktorak service mode trick will work for you if you decide to upgrade to android 4.4.4 official.

Unrooting is different from restoring or reflashing stock rom.
Not seeing any Firmware for that build
Which Carrier are you using?

Im currently using Cricket mobile. Previously I was using straight talk. Can I factory reset it? If not what would be a good firmware region to download from. I live in the USA. If I can't put the original firmware on it how can I restore or reflash the stock rom. Would it be easier to just upgrade with the newest firmware?

Since you're in the USA you're never going to receive an OTA for the i9295. Your only option is to manually flash the firmware you would like to use. Just looking at the firmware available on sammobile.com, I'm thinking the German XXUDOB4 firmware should work pretty well. I had XXUCNE5 on my phone and had no problems with it living in Washington DC.
