Not sure but I think the photo comes from the contacts database if you have photos assigned there, and is triggered by the Caller ID feature - which is not used for SMS. I imagine that there is probably a third party application that would do that. Have to search around, though.
if u used the palm threaded sms app it does this.. i can not post where to find it because the site got introuble b4 when it was posted but just goole it..

[Q] Caller (contact) photo

This could be a noob Q, but please help/advise:
We have 2 LG Optimus Black phones: mine shows a contact photo on the main screen when dialing him/her and/or when receiving a call from fim/her . But my wife's phone (same stock S/W ver. 10b) doesn't . Even if her contacts have associated pics, those pics doesn't show when dialing/receiving calls.
Is there a setting that we noobs are not aware of?

flash cyanogen in both phone ...both will be same and awsm
think is a problem of sim contact, does your have contact on her sim card ?
I think the "problem" is where you store your contacts, the SIM card only store and show name and phone number so in order to see a picture for a particular [or all contacts] you need to save them to the phone [export from SIM to phone] and edit info, you can attach more numbers [mobile, home, office, etc] address, birthday and a picture and some other things
I already thought of that.
In both phones, contacts are stored to the phone, not on the sim card.
Thanx though for the replies.
Still standing by for a solution...

[Q] Contact pictures on SMS showed on lockscreen ?

Hi,
I just got my HTC One which seems a real excellent device, but first thing that I miss (coming from an HTC One X), is that I don't see the contact's picture when I receive a SMS notification on the lockscreen, which was quicker to identify than needing to read the contact's name ...
Is there a way to change this ?
On missed calls I see the contact's picture, so why not on SMS ?
Thanks !

[Q] Last Call contact photo

Hello everyone,
After 4.4.2 update (HTC One international version, stock) in phone tab, the photo for the last call contact is not shown, even if it has a photo which is visible in rest (phonebook, call history).I was wondering if somebody else has this problem. I have all the contacts saved on my google account.

Question Please help with phone dialer

Missing caller info. Anyone else? And no settings I see can change it. S10+ for comparison(2nd).
Does everyone's call history look the same? Any help is appreciated
Don't know what you mean but I got the 3 dot
I'm having the exact same issue. My contacts profile picture doesn't show up in the phone dialer app but is shows up everywhere else... More specifically, my caller/ contact's photo is not showing in the recent call log, only their phone number and other call info. Contact photo shows up perfectly everywhere else( contact list and messaging app)
