Hey there guys!
The other day i bought my n5 and i am  all day
But as a battery maniac as i am i tried to change the resolution and ended in a dead phone. (just booted up, got to lockscreen and only displayed wallpaper)
Got to fix it by adb sideloading deodex rom
I tried using "NoMone Resolution Changer" as i used to do with my lg g2 but it wasn't working, and i tried "Resolution Changer Pro, from nexter" and got my phone dead.
Anyone tried this already? Would like to try my n5 on 1080p a few days and couldn't.
Thanks.
Up!
Assuming you have rooted (if you haven't then you can't change the DPI), why don't you just try installing Dr Ketan's Rom and Arter kernel. You can change DPI in the ROM.

Not true! You can change DPI through adb without root!
I have rooted and have arter kernel and ketans ROM, but i want to change RESOLUTION not dpi.
Thanks.

Both can be done via adb: resolution and density
I have been using the note 7 roms which let you choose from 720 1080 and 1440.
I don't think changing resolution works on reg note 5 roms. DPI works fine (515 is best imo) but not resolution.
I haven't tried adb to change reso so maybe that works but I dunno

LCD Density Changer 5.4 seems to reboot my phone when trying to use, and needs busybox installed. Pretty sure I installed that correctly, but when trying to use the application to change screen resolution it reboots phone to bootlogo and does nothing. Anyone who may be able to help?
I'm also on ACS Syndicaterom Frozen if that's causing any problem with it I don't know. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't really understand the lcd density app. It's not permenant right? So what's the point? Just go into build.prop and find "ro.sf.lcd_density=240" and change "240" to whatever number you found you like with lcd density.
That's my solution to not needing the app. If you want the app and don't want to mess with the system settings then I have no clue.
Sorry!

None of our froyo kernels work right with LCD density changer.
Thanks for the responses, I will look in to the alternate method

Hmm, it works fine for me.
I am using 182 dpi with Syndicate 1.1.0 and Vision Kernel 1.2 and yes it is permanent.

You're still running 1.2? Are you on EC05 via OTA?

If you mean the EC05 modem, yes. And still on 1.2? As far as I know 1.2 is the latest version of Vision Kernel.

Have you heard of all the bricks caused by it? How long have you been using it? Maybe you could jump in on this thread and shed some light on this issue. If not and your phone bricks could you just post in it and let us know that it happened?

I've been using it since it was released without any issues. I guess I did not keep up on the thread.
That's just the research thread. There is a whole other one on the subject that's even longer.

Make sure that your phone is rooted. Other wise it will not work. That is how I got mine to work.
I find the default 320 density value to be a bit too much.
Everything just shows up too big on the phone wasting a lot of screen real estate.
I switched mine to 240 (after rooting) and started you ADW launcher (as the Samsung one doesn't play nice with smaller density values).
I was wondering value do other people use?
I think that i will use less than 240.
Maybe sub-200. Some roms on the hd2 with 168 were awesome, now with more resolution and more screen, 320 and 240 will be much for my taste.
240 Density on this screen is like 180 density on the 800x480 screen.
uhm, I didn't know that.
Then, I will use about 240 or so, I'm with you, using so much density like the default it is pretty dumb.
I'll try on thursday
How can you guys change the density of the phone??
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Will this just re-scale everything, or will it make operations less processor intensive?

First of all, you must have the phone rooted. After that you can use LCDDensity for Root (from Market) or edit \system\build.prop using root explorer or other equivalent software.
Clubttech - how did you manage to root it?

Thank you! But after changing the density, the apps which were not compatible with Note works fine?
Still didn't try to change the density myself (first have to find a window box to root the note). Therefore a little question: does the note app still work with a smaller density? I mean is it still possible to make notes without annoying scaling problems?
I've downloaded the app' but I'm stuck with the:
(1) make sure u have installed adb drivers for ur device
Where do i get the adb drivers from please?

Just follow the steps untill the HTC bit (step 3) to install ADB on your Windows PC.

This is from HTC Sensation page, very helpful for people doing it the 1st time.
Thanks very much mate. I'll give that a go.

I haven't found a stand alone Note driver pack, however installing the latest Kies from the Samsung site should give you the drivers you need.

Like the above post said, you might need Samsung driver, also make sure you run the Command Prompt as administrator.
Also do you have a folder called "platform-tools" inside C:\AndroidSDK?
My Note will not arrive untill later this week, so can't do the process myself. But the procedure works as I used it to push files to my Galaxy Tab using ADB.
Could you take some screen shots with different densities?

I tired to change the build.prop to have a different density, but the change is not sticking.
I change it to 240 and save the file , it shows saved but when i open the file it still shows 320.
I am rooted and using root explorer.
any suggestions ?
How can i make the phone run 145 or 140 dpi without phone apps fc? Any help would be great as you may get a rom release by me
I don't think this is possible.
Hmm i thought there would be a way to edit the apk to run those dpi's
Ive seen a rom running on a higher dpi so it IS possible.
One that works with our Ace (at least on CM7 vo-1 based ROMs) is LCD Density Modder
Try to set it in:
ro.sf.lcd_density in build.prop
I change mine using ROM toolbox pro.
Let me know if this worked
= ====== =
Edit:
I have been running at 140 since I posted and haven't noticed any difference at all
You need somethink like root explorer to get into your system folder, copy build.prop to your sdcard, open it up at your computer and then search for this:
ro.sf.lcd_density=[Your density]
For MDPI on 3,5" is 160 normal, but for you it may be like this:
ro.sf.lcd_density=150
or
ro.sf.lcd_density=145
Copy the saved file back to sd-card, do a backup of the old one, and put the ney one into the /system folder
Let me know if it helped
ok will try, but wouldnt that still make the phone and dialertab fc
I'm still on 140 and not one fc

i changed it in build prop and still FC
When I used to use 140 DPI I actually had no problem with FC's, maybe I just never ran into such app that would FC because of the change of DPI.
However, I used the app "LCD Density" to change my DPI, it should probably have the same effect as manually modifying the script but you could give it a shot.
yeah well iv been trying to change it different ways, but im not sure if it can be done on stock rom

can you do it or not? Which apps force close? Why bother with stock ROM? It sucks!
I'm still running at 140 and can't see any difference graphically but it feels like my battery its lasting longer and the ui is more responsive. Might be a placebo.

I made an AOSP Lockscreen Toggle Made for the Note II and ported it over to the Note 10.1.
Let me know how it goes for you and I will try to work out any bugs and any mods I make for the Note II I will try to add to this as well if possible.
You need to flash both files for it to work. and don't forget to Backup.
Reserved
Works
It works, I just wish that we can edit function on the lock Screen, instead of being confined to unlock, Camera, and google .
a. addition to Our great device anyway ,
Thank you very much

Once I perform a nandroid, I will flash these
After testing this for awhile on Resurrection Rom, I can say that it freezes my tablet 40% of the time, so I disable it. I use HOLO lock screen now to mimic AOSP lock screen.
Not working on Dr. Akrim's v8 rom (4.1.2)
Still get the water effect after flashing both these files in recovery.
Guess this was not for 4.1.2, right?
Thanks anyway
EDIT:.....hmm, the OP does say it's for 4.1.2 - well, I could not get it to work in Dr. Akrim's v8 ROM

You have to go into your system settings and enable it, it should be under lock screen options.
Thanks for this I hope to see some new moods here like this one thank you:thumbup:

I flashed this running on N8013-UEUCMA3-ARCMA3-XAR-deodexed ROM
After I flashed it, I'm getting some weird things like
Manage Accounts have "Push Subscriptions" instead of Gmail syncing
When changing fonts its says "More Fonts" for setting the fonts
I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing this issue
is there a certain order that these zips need to be flashed in? Do I have to reboot after each flash or can I flash both at the same time?
I really like this MOD, seems I don't know how to acurately unlock using the stock unlock method haha
EDIT:
Wiped, clean flashed the rom, checked and everything was good
Flashed the AOSP Lockscreen MOD and everything I mented before was broken
I also have this MOD installed N8013UEUCMA3-UnlimitedAppsMod just to let you know
Thank you in advance for letting me know if this is a me problem or a bug with this mod...
Any chance of getting this ported for XXCMC5?
Unlocking is not working. Im on ARHD rom. Weird.
Hi folks.
I would appreciate a little help with a problem I have.
I rooted and installed Slimbean (240 dpi)? plus formula84 gapps from the stock T Mobile junk. I have an odd issue when checking 'my apps' within google play which says 'Your device isn't compatible with this version.
I have tried to clear the application cache/data for play within settings and restarting.
Also, the camera seems to keep looking for external storage which is a little odd?
I would appreciate any advice immensely.
Cheers all.
Forgot to mention, Ive changed the dpi manually to 240 and ran through the general UI instructions after changing the DPI but still get the problem. Boo!

Had the same problem on first build of slimbean as well. I had to repeat the steps involving changing the DPI several times before I had success with play. The latest build of slimbean should already have DPI set to 240 and since that build ,I never had a problem. I never messed with DPI on latest build.

Thanks for replying. I thought I had the latest version. After a few goes of the same process you mentioned I managed to sort it.
Yeah, it can be a pain to get working properly. The only mirror for the 240DPI build isn't working, so the other 2 links are for the 182DPI version. Otherwise, they are exactly the same. Before flashing, you could edit the build.prop to reflect the change, and it'll make it easier for the Play Store to work right off the bat.

Never edited build prop before but I guess I could look into it just so I know how for future reference. I'm sure its simple. Probly just open the build.prop and find where the DPI numbers are and change them?

That is exactly how to do it, or just use ROM toolbox, there is a section for build prop edits, or you can do it before you even flash the ROM. In build prop you can also edit some stuff to get an amazing benchmark, but no help to the actual performance, so kinda useless( its something with frame rates)
