Mobile 6 & 6.1 - The whole story.
I am trying to put together this one super thread of applications that we like and dislike , the problems and advantages of them. As people add to the list I will add them to the first set of posts so as to make reading a lot easier once the thread grows. The first posts will also have the post # that it refers to, to also help in easier reading for others.
I will personally try to test as much software as possible if not every piece thats questioned about. The phone I am using is the t-mobile wing until I get my hands on a few other phones.
Please no flaming as I am sure tons of noobs will be drawn to this thread. All I ask is if you cant read the first page then leave, because you know people are going to flame you no matter what.
So there you have it people one thread to ask complain and say what you feel about any aspect of mobile 6 & 6.1.

PURESKILLZZZ thanks for the reply.
its just the first post leads me to an open touch release and the part thats relevant isnt very clear(about mms setup).as far as deleting arcsoft from the registry gos.
the second is very helpful but the fact that im uncomfortable deleting registry values that aren't specicific cancels it out.
any help and the diligent yet apprehensive reader of this great forum that gets made fun of by his wife for staring at the screen to read so much usefull info would be greatly appreciated!

The MMS walk through for non-working MMS. ( Originally by ndiguy5 )
1.) Remove MMS from the registry.
2.) Registry: HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA
3.) Now install Arcsoft_MMS_4281 to install MMS back to phone.
4.) Install network wizard, if you have it already installed skip this and goto the next step.
5.) Now use the network wizard to set up your settings.
6.) It should ask you to soft-reset.
7.) Now you should have a working MMS. If any problems post and I will try to assist you.

Oxios Memory 1.40
Release memory on your Windows Mobile (Freeware)
Oxios Hibernate attempts to release as much memory as possible without damaging the internal state of the Windows Mobile device (Pocket PC or Smartphone).
Oxios CloseApps closes down other applications by sending "Close" messages.
Oxios Hibernate 1.40
WM_HIBERNATE is a window message that is generated by the Windows operating system and sent to an application when system resources are running low. All applications should get the message and handle it by attempting to release as many resources as possible by unloading processes, destroying windows, or freeing up as much local storage as possible without damaging the internal state of the system.
Oxios Hibernate sends WM_HIBERNATE to all applications.
Oxios CloseApps 1.40
Each process started on a Windows Mobile-based Smartphone allocates memory, which cannot be released but is automatically freed when the application process ends.
Oxios CloseApps closes down all applications by sending WM_CLOSE messages.

You can just normally post. I saved many spots in the beginning of this thread so it wont be a big mess.
Also as it grows I will always put the post numbers next to a particular application or fix so when people read they can get all info from the first page so you don't have to read the whole thread to solve an already solved problem or read about an application.

Once again many thanks to all who helped me papamopps who is a great teacher and will have you laughing as he teaches. I am sure all his students love him for his humor. And it was his idea for me to start this whole thread here. zcink who always quietly finds his solution and will always share. Dutty for his wonderful nbhtool as his work is legendary already. Dark Simpson for his htc rom tool. And all the others who helped me learn and the noobs who got me searching for answers.
And last but surely not least ivanmmj Who started this thread and brought this to our attention. Also ttran001 who wrote the original how to, all I am doing is making it easier for people to use and supplying all the files.
"DOWNLOAD"
I have included a folder named "PURESKILLZZZ Splash Screen" for you to test before doing anything at all. This folder is my splash screen that I created and tested on a t-mobile wing. I have also included my image file that I used in-case you just want to go through the process before you create your won.
1.) Download all files needed. ( I made 1 download for everything. )
2.) get the picture you want to use for your splash screen.
3.) Copy the image you would like to use into the image folder.
4.) Open up the Step 1 folder and run the Replace SplashScreen.exe file.
5.) Click on Load Bitmap from the newly opened menu (Replace Artemis SPlashScreen.
6.) Click on the Update Splash button.
7.) The PDA Phone ROM Update Utility 3.0.3.1 menu will pop up. Leave it alone.
8.) Go back to the image folder for step 1 and locate the RUU_signed.nbh file.
9.) Copy the RUU_singed.nbh and place it into the RUU_signed folder.
10.) Go back and close out both PDA Phone ROM Update Utility 3.0.3.1 and Replace Artemis SplashScreen.
11.) Now go to the step 2 folder and double click on the nbhtool.exe.
12.) This will open up Dutty's good NBH tool v1.1.
13.) Click on the Decompile NBH file button.
14.) Browse back to the RUU_singed folder and locate the new RUU_signed.nbh file.
15.) Choose the same location or the one of your choosing to save the extract files.
16.) Once completed it will extract a new file called PrimarySplash.nb, this is your new Splash replacement file.
17.) OK now goto folder step 3.
18.) Open htcrt.exe file ( this is the HTC_ROM_Tool. )
19.) The htc rom tool screen will popup.
20.) Click on the Build! button.
21.) On this screen click on the box under the Device: to select your device type.
22.) Choose Herald
23.) Type in your version of the rom, example: 4.10.0002. (Thats what I used)
24.) Click on the box Splash 1 to choose your PrimarySplash.nb file
25.) Click on the Build ROM botton.
26.) The save to screen will open
27.) Save "ruu_signed" in the folder "step 4"
28.) OK ... Now we have a nbh file in the folder ready to flash
29.) Goto folder step 4 where you can flash your splash screen.
30.) Any questions just ask........

My Setttings -> Device Information -> shows ROM version as 4.17.405.2 WWE
what should I be entering?
Previously, when my device was a boxed-product it used to display the IPL, SPL on booting up, but after upgrading using the help found here, it only shows me the htc screen and I can only check the IPL/SPL if I go to the boot loader mode. The htcrom tool shows some options on the right side. Would entering the values there provide the values for IPL/SPL on booting?
How do I select the PrimarySplash.nb file? There is no selection box available. N checkin again, I see that nothing can be edited in the boxes on the right.
EDIT: Didn't realize that those were buttons next to the text boxes, so the 3rd question is answered. The first 2 remain...

The screen worked. I now have a startup screen of Optimus Prime . The IPL/SPL however was also asking for nb files, dosen't allow to enter the values directly, so I havent tried that out. If you have an idea, do let me know.
n thanks a lot for the instructions...

I just got a new laptop with Vista as an OS. I am using Window Mobile Device Center and syncing my AT&T Tilt via blue tooth. My device has all hidden files showing. The one thing that I can see anymore is my Windows file on My Device. Under the old Active Sync I was able to view all files in my device. In Vista I can't for some reason. My laptop has all hidden files showing also. Please advise.
in vista you need to go to start - folder optons - view - uncheck "hide all operating system files (recommended).
Thank you, mbarvian. That worked.

I have tried this, but I must be missing something. Once I click start, do I go to control panel or something because I don't see the folder option listed on the Start Menu

Yes, you DO go to the Control Panel. There you'll see "Folder Options" in the master list. That's what he left out. Once you pull that up, in the main tab section scroll down the list to find the "hide all operating system files (recommended)" entry and UNCHECK the box next to that.
Well for me my SD Card doesn't want to work while on RC29 so I have to wait for the stupid automatic update.... SIKE!
Here are the steps to manually check for updates using your Dream/G1:
1. First, have AnyCut installed if you don’t already
2. Next, Create a new shortcut on your phone’s desktop. Select “AnyCut” and then select “Activity”
3. Select “Device Info” as your activity. I can’t find any other way to get to this activity on the phone
4. Press the new shortcut icon you have created.
5. Scroll to the bottom and find the “Check for Updates” button. Click it. You may have to a few times for it to succeed.
6. Once the “checkin” has succeeded, exit back to your home screen and you will be prompted to install the update.
Wait for it to finish download then go to home screen.

will that delete all SMS including other folders? or only in the current folder?
i'm afraid to try..
Well thanks but,
1. The option Menu--->Clear "Text Messages" delete the sms one by one.
for 2nd post reply.
I cannot find that option in my xperia, I am using the latest version of the firmware.
I was looking for some thing as we have in nokia or other sony ericsson phone.
suppose i have 300 sms in my inbox, and i want to delete all of them except 10 or 12, so what i used to do, i used to 'Mark All' and then unmark the one which i dont want to be deleted, so once they unselected i can delete all the others.
This kind of option i cannot find in xperia.
Regards
Jade
I tried to change start menus to remove some and add others. I went to setting and select menus. When I select any un-slecte one, I got a message of 'you can only slelect 7 items'. Fine! I decided to de-select someone first but I got a 'cannot remove that item'!?
Is this some sort of locking?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I believe, the only ones you can't remove are today, programs, and settings.
Or you could try using File Explorer and go to the Windows folder and open the Start Menu Folder. Then cut the link that you want to remove and paste it somewhere else like in the Programs folder.
