I bought a galaxy s on ebay, was like new a week old.
Found it to be very fast and amazing but the headphone port seems to be having problems. only one side of the headphones work for some reason and if i twist the headphone jack inside the port and hold it at a certain place occasionally both work.
Have tested in 4 different set of earphones which are fully working and I get the same problem. If I unroot my phone and ask the seller for the original reciept will I be able to get the phone repaired under warranty?
thanks
My usb port didnt work anymore after a week i got this phone. It was sent back rooted and had unofficial firmware. They replaced the port for free however. You need the receipt though..
The samsung employee told me they didn't care about unofficial software. The procedure to make everything default is a 10 sec job
You replacement will be under factory warranty, just like mine

I had same problem. Brought it to SC and they found out headset was faulty. Replaced headset. Headset/accessories only 6 months warranty. So go get it checked out. They didn't even check the phone. So I won't worry too much about custom roms unless you really have an issue with the phone itself.
God bless.
Thanks for the replies. Found out it was due to the fact that the gel case I have on my phone prevented the headphone Jack going all the way into the port. Stupid mistake I know but at least I know its now sorted.

The front speaker on my captivate has quit working. I purchased the phone from Best Buy so I assume I have to go though Samsung. Anyone have experience with Samsung's warantee procedures?

It sucks. My phone was randomly shutting down and I called AT&T. After several transfers, they connected me to Samsung warranty department. They told me I had to ship my phone back to them and they will do some diagnostics on it and might fix it or might send me a different one (didn't say a brand new one). Meanwhile, I am on my own. I probably needs to take my old phone out and use it for a week or two. Because my issue is not so major, I still haven't sent mine back yet.
You mean the one you listen to calls with? I've never heard of that one going out. The rear one is common and is typically easily fixed. I just returned mine a couple weeks ago without a problem. Bought it at Wally world but it's all ATT so you can go through them. We have a repair center in town that does returns on the spot. Walked in, told them it was shutting down, gave me another one. Wasn't new though, but a refurb.
Yea, the speaker you put up to your ear. The speaker is not actually broken, it is the headphone jack - it constantly reports that headphones are plugged in thus muting the front speaker. At first the problem could be temporarily fixed by blowing air into the headphone jack (would fix the problem for 5 minutes - 1 day) but that trick is no longer working. Sticking a plastic stick into the headphone jack and pushing to the left will fix the speaker but as soon as I release the pressure the speaker goes silent again.
That is great news that ATT will swap it for refurb on the spot. I don't know how I could do without my phone for a week or two if I had to ship it to samsung...

axis01, thanks again. I went to the ATT repair center and walked out 4 minutes later with a new captivate. AWESOME. Thanks so much for that tip.

Yeah, if there is a repair center near you, then you are in good shape. If not, you have to ship it to them and that would really suck.
Samsung warranty takes about a week or two for them to repair your phone. You wont get a new one.
Here is a list of ATNT service centers:
http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&solutionId=KB91429
You are better off going to them. Less hassle and they will give you a refurbishment phone or maybe even a new one...
Trust me. I complained to samsung about the gps. They filed a repair claim and sent me a label. They had my phone for almost two weeks and claimed they replaced the parts. Got the phone back and it still sucked. Went to my local device center and the kid swapped the phone out and it works fine now.
Contact the AT&T Warranty Exchange at 1-800-801-1101 and tell them your issue. They'll send you a refurb by mail that won't include the battery or battery cover. Once you receive the phone, you have about 10 days to return it to them or they'll charge you for it until it's returned. You send the old phone back to them in the same box they shipped it in free of charge to you.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
make sure you make copies of all the labels on the return box, once you sent it back you have no way of tracking it without the number on the label. I read some horror stories where people were charged by ATT for the replacement phone because they could not locate the returned one in their own warehouse (they use a 3rd party shipping company and do not share RMA information!!)
Like title, anyone having similar situation like that ??? 3 normal headset has been tested, basically the phone has something to do with that. Did factory reset and all stuff, nothing works.
There were lots of people suffering that with the same pattern as mine with just left earplug

Last option is to send the phone toward service, i really want to avoid that since i won't be in Australia for a while.

I had this happen to me.
I tried with two different headsets.
Turns out both headsets were broken and the phone was fine.
Maybe that's the case for you too.
Did you try a bluetooth handset? Anyway I know you are in complicated situation but in this case the best thing is send it back to repair via warranty.

I wouldn't be that sure.. I had the same problem, left audio channel didn't work in headphones. I tried 3 different headsets. That problem was in the phone. I've sent it to a repair centre and they replaced my while unit because they couldn't fix the issue. So I would send it in for repair with this problem. I know I did and got a replacement phone.
3 handset and all the same problem? 100% faulty device or jack, send it back to repair.

Could be, though i had this issue before with different devices and its always the headset
Of course i guess you can't discard the phone as a culprit
Maybe you should find a way to verify it for free before sending it in for repairs

Watch out with sticking a needle in the headphone jack! There's some special coating in it to make it waterproof! I guess that a needle can make destroy this coating!

Not entirely too late, at least it helped me.
Been trying to find a solution for this same problem and was beginning to think a repair was needed.
Just to confirm...with a needle, after clearing out a clump of fluff sound now plays through both earphones of the 5 different headsets that wouldn't work before.
For anyone else trying to fix this problem either now or in the future, its at least worth a try.
Thanks rvzek
I've noticed that my left earplug have lower volume than the right one. Did someone had this problem?
I cannot remember what caused this, but it's only on the Sony headset and not other. Others are working fine.
Hello All,
My Z1 has recently begun to give off a sort of feedback when it vibrates (via the speakers).
I've ran diagnostic tests on my phone and all tests seem to come back positive and error-free.
However, when I run the Vibration test, sometimes the vibrator works perfectly fine (for about two runs), and then it vibrates with the negative "ZzzzzZzzZ" sound.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue with their Z1? Perhaps someone else (if anyone is experiencing it as well) can further elaborate on the issue. Would really like to get this issue fixed without having to send it back to Sony :crying:
I have the same problem with my Z1 (6903). There's a weird buzzing sound from the speaker right after the vibrator activate. Would love to be able to fix this without sending to Sony as well.

Guys i had same problem few weeks back, then two days back vibrator stopped working and this zzzzzzzzzzzz sound was the only thing i can notice. So went to center and today got it replaced. So no more workarounds for this issue. Go to center and get it replaced.

Ahh, that's unfortunate. I live in the Bahamas, so doing that is pretty difficult for me at the moment. Were you able to go to any Sony store, or did you have to go directly to a service center? How long did you have to wait for your replacement?

I submitted my phone yesterday morning and person in charge told me they will try to do any sort of update first and if still there is an issue, they will replace it. Today morning when i went there, he told issue is not sorted wait for 10 minutes. and then i got new brand replacement in 15-20 minutes..
I will suggest you to go directly to service center.

Edit: There are actually 4 locations; NJ, LA, Texas and San Jose, Cali.

Ohhh that sounds tooooo far from your location. Try repair your phone via SUS or PCC. But first take full backup. Hope this can solve your issue. Though chances are very less.

I'm also having the squeaky vibration problem...
Hi, I'm also having the squeaky vibration problem. My phone is about 6 months old and I've been having this noisy vibration squeak for at lease 6 weeks now. I'm running slimkit evo 8.1 on a unlocked bootloader. Before I try to get it fixed by Sony, do I need to reset back to stock and lock my bootloader?
Could anyone give me some pointer to what I could say to get the phone exchanged for a brand new one? I can't be without a phone for 2-3 weeks (estimated service time by resale store).
I have a 5 months old z1, and ive had this issue since the first month i bought it....i guess its a weak point, which is pity for a flag**** phone...

Hi macooz,
Sorry for the late reply. If you are sending it back to Sony, you should always revert back to Stock, as custom firmwares void your warranty.
You could simply tell them that your Vibration Motor is not functioning properly (giving off a squeaky noise instead of an actual vibration) and you would like for it to be either repaired / replaced or have your entire phone exchanged for a new one.

I agree with you. Issue is that because the phone is encased in gorilla glass, it makes it a bit difficult to change any parts on your own. Disassembly videos are available on YouTube, but who wants to take the risk of breaking their phone's casing and then have to replace additional parts?

Unfortunately, I agree with Soka on this one. I have had the replacement Vibrator for months now, but a little reluctant to open my device as it requires heating and having to purchase new adhesives and so on. I am getting those items in the very near future though, so I'm going to go ahead and do it!
My best piece of advice would be to purchase a replacement back (in case you crack / break your original one while removing it) and replacement adhesives before actually performing the DIY Fix.
Hi there Im facing this problem too, I open a new thread but then @soka pointed me to this one, I record a video from the sound
they had already replace the vibrator and the main board, but the issue still continue, here is the thread I open:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/help/problem-sound-vibrator-t2922957
Hope to get fixed or replaced soon
Well, finally fixed my vibrator problem. I opened the back of my phone using a Hot Air Gun and pry tools, then replaced the vibrator module. Unfortunately, this seems to be the only valid solution.

My Note 8 mic died today :crying: I can hear the callers but they can't hear anything from me. If I switch to speaker, they can hear me. I checked all settings and did factory reset, didn't solve the problem. I took it Samsung service center at Rama 9 Bangkok ( I live in Thailand). They tried "deep" re-flash (whatever that means), but didn't fix. Seems like my phone failed their diagnostics as well. They opened up the phone and confirmed it's a hardware failure. Fortunately, everybody who preordered Note 8 over here get 6-month brand new unit replacement and 1-year accidental screen damage warranty as part of promotion in addition to free AKG 230 blutooth speaker, some military grade cover, pencil style s-pen. So for this case, they processed mine to get brand new unit as replacement. I have to wait 7 to 14 days. I really hope my replacement phone will be problem free.
I'm just glad I haven't purchased whitestone and only bought some cheap screen protectors. I was also considering of rooting it. Now that this happened, I don't think I'm going to do it at least until my warranty runs out. I really don't want to lose my accidental screen damage warranty. I have a feeling that I'm will be using it.

The weirdest part is that the mic is the same either for regular call or speaker, the only thing that changes is the output audio source...seems more of a software issue than hardware, that for some reason is not opening the mic on regular calls...[emoji848]interesting...

Do you have a case on it? Take it off.
I ask because I first used a hard case and the mic didn't work always...the bottom port seemed partly covered, not much but obviously enough. Take the case off and all good. I now use a goospery soft case and it's fine.

While I don't know which microphone is used for what, I'm pretty sure Note 8 has 2 microphones: 1 on top and 1 on bottom, so maybe it is using top mic with speaker on, not the bottom one?

Update. I got my sealed brand new replacement couple days ago. My new phone is manufactured in Sep 29th. Everything is good. Mic is working. Screen is good, no light bleed at all. They even unboxed and did diagnostic of new phone with me, mainly checking the screen for any dead pixel or touch sensitivity issue, before I signed paperwork. I'm super happy with Samsung Thailand services, far far better than in the US.
Now let's see if I'll ever have to use 1-year free screen replacement. I nearly dropped it this morning.
That's a hell of a promotion. Wish we'd get that here in the States. The Galaxy 360 camera I made the mistake of choosing (instead of a sd card/fast charger) is a piece of doodoo.

Mine is giving trouble too, but the entire circuit board there seems to have died on me after about a week, the LTE strength suddenly became terrible, and I found that if I applied pressure on one of the antenna connectors in a specific direction the strength would jump up to normal.
I'm waiting for replacement parts to be available, and I noticed that the USA version that ifixit has a teardown guide for has a newer revision of this board, made a week or so after mine. Must have had some of the early ones fail prematurely... The rest of my phone works flawlessly, fortunately.

Yes. Put it on Ebay and hope some poor schmuck pays you your $50 for it.
Op, that is the reason to buy only from authorized official dealers! The people who get their devices in grey markets most of the time have troubles with warranties
I have the same issue, blowing into the usb port seems to fix it temporarily. Hope this gets sorted out with a software update.
