Installing TWRP? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm very new to all this, so if this is a stupid please forgive me.
I have a z3c with Android 4.4.4, I believe last night I've unlocked the bootloader via Sony's process. Phone rebooked and reset (and did see the green android doing stuff).
I want to install TWRP and then CM12.
Firstly, I can't seem to get into the standard (if there is one) bootloader by holding the volume button down.
Also, Is there a step by step guide to installing TWRP and some way of confirming I have actually unlocked the stock bootloader?
Regards.

use this code in the same way if you go to call *#*#7378423#*#* and check it on Service info configuration you should see something like this :
1 - bootloader unlock allowed: No
2- bootloader unlock allowed : Yes
3 -bootloader unlock: Yes
But for root the phone you don´t need unlock bootloader I don´t know in your country but here you lost warranty if you open it. You just need dowgrade to kitkat using flashtool, root with one script and you should to make a copy of TA partiton with other script and install dual recovery.
You have a lot of tutorials and videos arround.

Thank you for the information. I have used *#*#7378423#*#* and get:
3 -bootloader unlock: Yes
I'm now following a post (DoomLord's) and trying to install CWM.
With the phone powered up and connected to PC, I can use adb and see a connection
I have tried getting into fastboot mode using two ways:
1. From adb and reboot in fastboot
2. Hold volume-up and connect usb....
I get a BLUE LED, but when using Android platform tools, "fastboot devices", none are shown....
I'm assuming blue LED means fastboot?
Note: I've turned on anti-virus / firewall... etc.
Basically, can't connect to phone via fastboot command....
Any ideas?

For some reason my windows machine didn't work but my mac did.
Managed to fastboot cwm:
&&&&&-MacBook-Prolatform-tools &&&&&&$ /Users/me/Library/Android/sdk/platform-tools/fastboot flash boot Z3c_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_v01_FW-105.img
sending 'boot' (13014 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.410s]
writing 'boot'...
OKAY [ 0.867s]
finished. total time: 1.277s
&&&&&&-MacBook-Prolatform-tools me$ /Users/me/Library/Android/sdk/platform-tools/fastboot reboot
rebooting...
finished. total time: 0.002s
After reboot - NEW PROBLEM:
Trying to switch on wifi, the switch moves across and turns light blue (and shaded out).... and no wifi.
Have i broken it?

Men try basics, wipe cache davlink, if doesn't work you should try factory reset. If doesn't work you should try other Rom now you have recovery try any rom.

Thanks for your reply.
I've tried:
Clearing clearing the Dalvik Cache.
Factor reset
> Still the same; no wifi (light blue and shaded out)
I then:
Flashed Sony 4.4.4 stock ROM (D5803_23.0.1.A.5.77_RU.ftf)
> Got phone working again.
Then fastboot loaded CWM as per:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-...58xx-cwm-based-recovery-6-0-4-7-root-t2890231
And again have the same issue, wifi will not turn on and is blue / shaded out.
Any ideas?
Is it worth trying TWRP? If so, is there a version for z3c?
Regards,
Rowland

Broken Power-Need to Unlock Bootloader and Root

Is there anyway to unlock bootloader and root the nexus one with broken power button. or is there anyway to root without unlockine bootloader. if so, how?..thanks
You cannot unlock the bootloader but you can root. You will need to passimg to downgrade to a previous version (in most cases frg33) then use superoneclick to root. Instructions are in my sig, if you have any other questions just ask.
how would i do this without power button...?
This is how I did it.
I did not have to touch the bootloader. I downloaded "PASSIMG_Passion_Google_WWE_2.18.1700.1_FRG83_release_signed" renamed it to passimg (placed it on SDcard) flashed that using the volume down reboot option then I downloaded and installed GINGERBREAK and ROM MANAGER (From Android Marker) which allowed me to root and install a recovery manager. Then installed CyanogenMOD 7.1.0 it got stuck at CyanogenMOD screen. I then redid it making sure to wipe the system, data & cache partitions. Its working great!

What about:
Connect via USB to PC, enable USB Debugging mode, open a terminal window to your adb and type adb reboot bootloader. the phone will reboot into bootloader mode. Then type adb oem unlock.
(Just to make sure: Unlocking the bootlader will wipe all your personal data! Backup first! )

Oups. You're right. Forgot about the step, where you need to confirm the unlocking (by pressing the power button). :/
Hmm.. Have you checked any sw solution like e.g. https://market.android.com/details?id=cz.destil.fixbrokenpb ? Eventhough i doubt this specific one works for this purpose, in general there should be a sw solution for this. Cause there also exists a pb replacement hack (coming from an xda user) that was implemented in the cwm recovery. You might have a look for that?! (I can't remember the name, nor find the post right now.)
More help might be available via the apps suggested here: http://www.androidguys.com/2010/09/08/manage-nexus-broken-power-button/
i used superoneclick root v2.2 to root 2.3.6 stock. everything worked without using directly the phone: just debug mode ( with correct adb drivers), plug in, press root and gg
but i can't find the topic/download link right now
Im rooted and ready to rock and roll...followed this guide...thanks Duderandom...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...des_&_Tutorials#Unroot_.2F_Restore_your_Nexus
then i flashed this stock rooted 2.3.6 via Rom manager by install Rom from SD.
I use this rom..

[Q] Installing CM10.1 on Xperia TX

Hi everyone!
I just updated to JB yesterday and the battery life sucks so much. This is going to be annoying for me. So I am thinking about installing CyanogenMod. But before that, I have some questions:
1. Must I unlock the bootloader? (My phone is unbranded.)
2. After relocking the bootloader, can I still get warranty from Sony? And can I still repair my phone and get updates using PC Companion?
3. How is the battery life, performance and some other features of CM10.1?
That's all I have to ask now. I will appreciate everyone's help. Thanks in advance!

I have the LT30p(T) i installed CM few days ago, and i must say i love it much more than normal Xperia android. But answering your questions;
1. you MUST unlock bootloader.
2. Not sure, but i guess not. (but you dont use your warranty so why care.. If anything gets broken with the hardware warranty doesnt work, and if its something with software we can fix it here.)
3. Battery life i guess is better.
Hope i helped you.

Download Flashtool (for drivers and just in case something fails)
download cyanogenmod(i would say cm10 not 10.1 thats not stable and makes your phone very hot.)
also the right gapps for cm10.
extract the boot.img from cm10 zip
drivers map flashtool install fastboot drivers(scroll down when opening installer)
search fastboot (file) in flashtool.
in that map place the boot.img
copy cyanogenmod zip and gapps to phone
go to this site: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and get the key (with your imei and use a genuine imei)
open cmd and get to the file where the fastboot file and the boot.img is.
turn off phone and press volup and connect via usb.
type: fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY, where KEY is the unlock boot loader key you got.
CONGRATULATIONS WARRANTY VOIDED AND UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
will take a sec or 2
fastboot reboot
when phone boots when the led is purple press vol up and it will change orange and you will come in recovery
press install zip
install zip (external?) sd card.
flash CM10
flash gapps
wipe data factory reset
wipe cache
advanced->wipe dalvik cache
back
reboot
YOU GOT CM10!!!

Wow! This is detailed. But I still have a few questions.
1. How to use cmd to get to the fastboot file and the boot.img? (Assuming I extract the files to Desktop) And what for?
2. After unlocking my bootloader, if I brick my phone, can I still flash a stock JB firmware into my phone and get repair using PC Companion?
3. Should I type these in the cmd? "fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY", "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and "fastboot reboot"?
4. What did you mean by "drivers map flashtool install fastboot drivers(scroll down when opening installer), search fastboot (file) in flashtool, in that map place the boot.img"
5. I checked the FreeXperia site, everything's working on CM10.1. Is it still considered as unstable?
Sorry for asking so many questions. This is because I just bought this phone not long ago and I don't want to brick it and cannot repair it. So I will need a lot of details to make sure everything goes well. I appreciate your help! =]
All these instructions and answers to your questions are available in the all in one thread, I suggest you read it before doing anything to your phone. Then you can ask in that thread

1. via windows explorer go to your dekstop (users->ACCOUNTS->Desktop) and click on the top where you see the adress and copy it. then in cmd write "C: *what you copied*"
2.Bricking your phone is very hard to do, soft bricking happens more often and yes you can easily flash via flashtool BUT after unlocking bootloader PCC wont recognize your phone, so know how to use Flashtool (NOT THE SONY ONE NORMAL ONE)
3. yes but first get to the directory of your boot.img to make it easier, after that just write all of those.
4. After you have installed Flashtool go to : Flashtool\Drivers\Flashtooldrivers.exe open that and after pressing next scroll down to fastboot drivers.
5. http://goo.im/devs/tilal6991/roms/mint/cm-10.1/cm-10.1-20130421-UNOFFICIAL-mint.zip i installed this one (also with gapps ofcourse) and it works really well 0 crashes!

Flash any C6902 ftf, the problem with your network, wifi, baseband will be solved. By the way, do you still have your Z1 box? SI and IMEI number are on the label of the box. By knowing the SI number, you can find the exact customized version for your phone. Check this thread (Just in case).

[STOCK][M][TMO] Guide H811 20i & 20o Bootloader Unlock + Root + TWRP

Note : This guide is for H-81120-I & H-81120-O the latest update any firmware version below it will cause hard-brick so be careful before attempting anything, i wont be held responsible.
As a user with less knowledge about Commands and all, i was searching for answers by reading threads here and there and found my answers though some time tricky and sometimes easy.
Also in reading those threads i found many fellow members stumble upon resulting Soft bricks and in some cases a Hard brick or can say making their beloved G4 a paper weight.
So i thought i must put some really easy steps in order to clearly guide people like me who are too noob to understand the sophisticated developers steps.
Another reason for this Thread is also i saw many people asking about how to etc after updating to 20-O update for our H811 MM.
Few things to Prepare before Start
1- Properly Install Drivers for your H811 Variant of G4, cant find them Install LG Bridge.
2- Read the Whole thread before starting anything.
3- Confirm that all requirements are full filled and your variant is capable of everything mention in the OP.
4- Enable Developer Option then inside it enable OEM unlock and Usb debugging.
5- Always use Command prompt as Administrator.
6- Make a folder name G4 and paste all the file required for the unlocking in it for easy access and remembrance.
7- For Safer side after unlocking the bootloader boot into TWRP from fast boot and do not install TWRP.
8- Flash your SuperSU after that boot into android and see if all works.
9- Again Via Fastboot boot into TWRP make a backup of everything working fine. Boot into android.
0- Again same Via Fastboot boot into TWRP and now install your TWRP image via TWRP install function. So if by any means this is the culprit you can still revive your phone via your backup.
Attachments to Download
1- Adb Package can be found Here.
2- Download the latest TWRP.img 3.0+ from Here . This file needs to be on your computer and external sdcard.
3- Download the latest SuperSu zip (2.67+) from Here [Thanks to Chainfire] and stick on external sdcard as well.
Since downloading is complete now simply unzip the adb folder (containing fastboot by default) and paste both the TWRP image file and SUPERSU zip inside it.
Now Hold Shift and Open Command prompt here.
1- Input command to see if your device is visible in ADB.
Code:
adb devices
if you see your device and the status is off line then there will be a prompt on your G4 screen waiting for approval, accept it and input same command now all will be fine.
2- Now input below commands one by one. ( All credits to Autoprime )
Code:
adb reboot bootloader ( This will reboot your device to Fastboot mode )
fastboot oem unlock ( This will wipe all your data )
fastboot getvar unlocked ( This will check your bootloader status: Should be successful )
fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-0-h811.img ( Phone boots TWRP ) Please put the full file name with .img extension or it wont work.
3- Now the Phone should be in TWRP install SuperSU from there which you have already pasted inside your external SD card.
4- Reboot to system and see if SuperSU is installed. In some cases First flash of SuperSU does not work if your case is same the again boot to Fastboot and from there boot into recovery, since your bootloader is unlocked no need to repeat the unlock OEM command.
5- Now for safer side follow the steps 7, 9, 0 mention in Preparation heading above.
Hopefully all will be in your favor.

I know several guides are available for same purpose so if any body finds it offending any rights can ask the moderators to remove this thread. The purpose only is to guide simple people like me to save their devices from getting bricked.
As by reading the thread many people are falling for permanent TWRP installation as its mention in the OP anyways for people not getting permanent Recovery follow below:
Boot to TWRP from fastboot Bootloader
When recovery comes up click Install >>>> then in the right below corner you ll see a tab for IMAGE >>> press it browse the recovery IMG which you stored in your SD card >>> swipe to flash >>> From asking where to install >>> select recovery >>> DONE.

Indeed needs to be in both but needs to be in the same Folder as Fastboot file, if not wont work.
beside will be cool if you add a NOTE about if they are in 20o they must stick with 20o base roms, if not they'll get Hard-Brick.

Guys,
If I read it right:
LG G4 must be on 20o (stock) to follow this instruction.
If it’s on 20i or below, it must be updated to 20o (OTA or whatever) first!
It might be obvious for you, but not for me.
Again, but better be safe, then sorry.

thanks for the write up
This is not specific to 20o. It's the same steps we've been using all along. Nothing new to see here.

problem with fastboot

problem with fastboot
Hi,
I am a newbie in xda. I am trying to root and install TWRP into my lg g4. I am using software version H81120o. I checked enable OEM unlock and USB debugging. I have downloaded lg driver though lg bridge and all the files from the post. However, I got two problem while installing the twrp-3.0.2-0-h811.img.
1st problem (stuck here and need to reboot also not showing h811 on "the list of devices attached" after typing command "adb reboot bootloader"):
C:\Windows\system32>adb devices
List of devices attached
LGH811xxxxxxxx device
C:\Windows\system32>adb reboot bootloader
C:\Windows\system32>fastboot oem unlock
...
FAILED (remote: Already unlocked)
finished. total time: 0.012s
C:\Windows\system32>fastboot getvar unlocked
unlocked: yes
finished. total time: 0.004s
C:\Windows\system32>fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-0-h811.img
cannot load 'twrp-3.0.2-0-h811.img': No error
2. 2nd problem(stuck here and need to reboot):
C:\Windows\system32>fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-0-h811.img
< waiting for device >
I checked online this problem might do with driver not up to date. Under device manager, my lg g4 is recognized under android device with android bootloader interface.
What should I do now?
Thanks you for helping:fingers-crossed:
This Root-Method worked like a charm... The only issue I'm running into is for the TWRP recovery to actually stick. When i manually reboot into recovery I get the little android guy with his chest open and the red triangle with the "!" in the middle.....am I doing something wrong by any chance??
I did everything but can't seem to get TWRP installed
Thanks a lot for this write up. I have been trying for about 2 weeks to root my g4 and it worked finally, So many thanks to you

same problem here but I just now got it working...sort of . I still can not make anything come up except the factory data reset when I use the phone volume and power button.
I thought it might be just that I wasn't coordinated enough so I downloaded this small app to do a recovery reboot.
After I installed the app and used it, I got the little android guy with his chest opened with the red triangle. I took out my battery, put it back in and booted my phone with the power button.
I then connected my phone to computer via usb and went back into adb and opened TWRP and installed the twrp-3.0.2-0-h811.img again but this time I looked around a little more first, and noticed a setting to either install in boot or recovery partition. I selected recovery partition (neither were selected) and installed it. Now I can boot to TWRP recovery with the app I installed but still nothing but factory data reset with the volume and power buttons. I can live with this for a while until I can maybe find a solution.
I had the same issue but when u get into twrp make sure the IMG is in your SD card and to permanently have twrp installed go to home and press install.. Choose from image and install hope this helps

In regard to booting into TWRP recovery with just the power and vol buttons, I just read this on another thread:
It boots into what appears to look like a default LG G4 factory reset page. For me, i clicked reset, and then yes, and surprisingly it brought me to where i wanted to go. TWRP Recovery.
I tried this and it worked for me as well.
I had been there before and tried it and it did a factory reset after I had spent an hour or two tweaking my phone, I was not a happy person. This time I did feel almost positive I had TWRP installed correctly and did not have nearly as much time spent getting things set up like I want them on my phone...It was still scary pressing that reset button and yes button.
If you don't have TWRP (or maybe some other recovery) installed it will factory reset your phone. I just thought I would share this and what happened with me. Do it at your own risk.

XZ3 unlock bootloader [Failed: Command did not succeed] someone resolved?

has anyone solved this problem by unlocking the bootloader? with error: Failed: Command did not succeed
I tried the following bulds:
52.0.A.3.202
52.0.A.8.14
52.0.A.8.25
52.0.A.8.50
Thanks
Bibi
small update:
after updating to 52.0.A.8.50, I made "factory settings" to reset it to the old version.
But when I restart without wifi, I find build 52.0.A.8.50 again
And now the OEM unlock option, which was usable before, has turned gray !! Mystery for me.
Obviously he wants me to update to 52.0.A.8.85 !!!
SOLVED INFORMATION:
I was wrong in writing IMEI of my device, and I put a wrong IMEI in SONY's selector, on its official page, which happens to have given its unlock code all quiet.
then the problem FAILED (remote: 'Command did not succeed')
can be translated as "I don't have the exact unlock code for your phone"
I did this to version 52.0.A.8.131 that I had installed before.

Try .131 vor wait for September
For wait for Q, maybe Sony will remove more DRM TA protection like it did with P
if it was for 2 or 3 days it is not a problem.
but I can't wait until late September.
Let's say that I bought it to be root .. and if I can't do it .. maybe I'll send it back.
Sorry, but are you telling me that they haven't solved even after almost a year?
nobody rooted?
The 3.131 where I can find it and flash arla.
if I find it on XFIRM, what program do I use to put it in my phone?
among other things to set it to factory settings he left me at 52.0.A.8.50, even without wifi.
And nice surprise .. OEM unlock is now deactivated !!!!
it leaves me very mulble

OEM unlock needs internet via a simcard and a phone restart
There ate many unlocked users using magisk and twrp.
I would recommend to follow the Sony unlocking instructions

Then:
if I do a factory reboot and I don't put the wifi in the first cellphone settings, the OEM unlock option remains gray.
If I do it and I put the wifi in the meantime that is imposed then OEM unlock is usable and therefore can be activated. Correct?
(not that it makes much sense)
However I am installing updates one after the other, and for every update I try the command. (what's also coming to 52.0.A.8.131 which has been expanding in August 2019 (practically these days) and text as MartinX3 advised.

It's forced by the mobile providers to check if the simcard allows unlocking
Sony isn't alone here
Unlocking factory resets the phone, too
I did check the unlock box and followed only the Sony instructions and used my generated IMEI code.

wait MartinX3,
aren't you saying that you need a simcard inserted in the cell to unlock it right? just the wifi I hope to activate the option.
Look, I followed Sony's directions (which are basically 4 things on the cross)
But it gives me that error: FAILED (remote: 'Command did not succeed')
LIST OF WHAT I DID:
-I do All the appropriate procedures:
-I received the unlock code from the official Sony site
- Platform-tool download and driver
-on the phone sets it basic, active developer commands
- USB DEBUG and UNLOCK OEM tip on the mobile phone menu
- I turn off the phone
-Attack the mobile in fastboot mode (blue light)
-then in the devices and printers, which appears in new one when I plug in the cel in fastboot mode, I update the driver of the device appeared, android studio).
-I do the ADB command -> fastboot devices
**and ai read the model serial
- Then enter the code to unlock the phone: fastboot oem unlock 0xCODESEIAL
**and I get this: FAILED (remote: 'Command did not succeed')
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
(I tried the .107, now I try with .131 as you recommended me)
UPDATE:
badly wrong, even with the 52.0.A.8.131 DOES NOT, same identical error.
Sony in his guide makes it so easy, but neither does he make the possible mistakes.
And that I can't find an explanation for this specific error.

yes, it's like you say.
Looking at the guides, I think the right solution for me is an official firmware kernel that has both twrp and magikic inside.
I found a guide of 2017, but the official firmware files have changed, I do not find myself in the guide.
Can't you recommend something to me, or the keywords to look for on this theme?
I wanted to learn to change the firmware for future root myself.

Each has its own spaces. do not worry. Meanwhile, I've made progress !!!
You know that after unblock I had problems installing TWRP.Practically the command gave error.
I found the solution around.
The guides say:
HTML:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
but I have this error:
HTML:
FAILED (remote: 'No such partition.')
basically in the version of android 9 they created 2 partitions and practically the recovery was divided into recovery ramdisck, recovery ...
They explain it HERE
In practice some new systems (I did not understand if the kelner or just the boot), do not have the active recovery partition and then flash the recovery, it is like doing it on a folder that does not exist.
So they recommend starting the mini twrp operating system via adb.
And through this active twrp (but not installed), install twrp itself, and then the apps for the root.
So, I use the new command that starts twrp without installing it:
HTML:
fastboot boot twrp.img
then it takes 3 minutes with the word sony and then I see twrp
I make a twrp backup for security
then from there I install .img used for the command and moved to the phone while twrp is active and I do install, install img and select partition recovery ramdisck.
I tried to install also in the boot partition, which shows in the list.
and apparently the cell works correctly anyway.
In the guides they never say in which partition to put.
Meanwhile there are install magisk 18.1 (and a zip called permissive; I don't know what it is but from the name it seems useful).
Well, everything is smooth and without errors.
Restart, I use the twrp access commands (which in the case of xz3 are volume DOWN + prower simultaneously while the phone is still off).
And the recovery is there, but it has the usual tuoch problem that doesn't work.
I see the twrp main screen, which seems to work correctly, but the touch ...
I then checked the root, via the app downloadable on the cell from the magisk manager repository and marks the correct root.
Obviously I don't update anything about 19.3, which you wrote in other places that is corrupt.
: Sciocco: NOW! I just have to fix twrp and my epic quest will be over.
(although I'm worried about flashing a hypothetical Q that's coming out)
can you give me some inspiration for the touch that doesn't work twrp?
