Slow wifi on Android Marshmallow 6.0 (MRA58K) - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I don't know if someone has already said something about this, but I've noticed, after I've made a clean format and flash of Marshmallow 6.0 on my Nexus 6 through Fastboot, reinstalling all my apps manually, one by one, that Wifi connection is very slow.
When I use LTE, everything is okay, but when Wifi is on, downloads and web surfing slow down
I've checked my router settings and everything is fine, since I have other Android devices with Lollipop 5.1 and 5.1.1 which download and surf at full speed, so what could it be?
Is there anyone who has the same problem?
I imagine that it could be the first Marshmallow bug, similar to the one of Lollipop 5.0, where Bluetooth was very slow, because other people on the web complained about that after Monday

Yeah, exactly, that's the major problem about web surfing!
Instead, about downloads from the Play Store, my home Wifi speed (4 Mbps) is halved, so apps and updates download at 2 Mbps.
It is not a great problem, since I've found out that other people on the web, because of their laziness, are experiencing more serious problems, due to dirty flashes of Marshmallow over Lollipop, but I really hope that Google will release a bugfix very soon, such as a Marshmallow 6.0.1

Personally I have not noticed any speed degradation after update to 6.0. It is same as it ever was ~25 Mpps.

After a deep search, I've found out that this bug appeared also in the passage from Jelly Bean to Kit Kat. Indeed, the problem is solved by switching to High Accuracy in the Location Services. It is a bug, because it is not normal that you can't use your Wifi at full speed if you use Battery Saving mode, but if you turn High Accuracy on, everything is okay!
Now I just hope that my battery will last as usual
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...w-wifi-after-4-4-upgrade-nexus-10-solved.html

Still works great in pure Marshmallow clean install. Got full speed access from my router.

Even in the passage from Jelly Bean to Kit Kat, the result of this attempt was not always the same and sometimes it didn't work, as it happened to you. So, the only way to solve this problem is to wait for a bugfix from Google

Hi 5hifty and guys, I have another interesting tip for you, if you have Wifi problems as me: it seemed like the option to turn off Wifi "Scanning always available" had been removed; instead, it was just moved to Settings --> Location --> Scanning: I have disabled Wifi scanning and Bluetooth scanning, I've rebooted my Nexus 6 and now, even if I've switched back to Battery Saving mode in Location, I surf and download at full speed not only on LTE, but also on Wifi!
However, the Wifi battery drain is still there and Google has already declared that they will fix it with the next update

^good to know!

I'm seeing horrible WiFi Speeds on a Nexus 7 2013 WiFi only model post clean update to Android 6
Have tried the location settings changes but still get really slow page loads in Chrome and Play store almost unusable Youtube

I found that if I go into apps and clear the cache in chrome it loads faster for a little while. Had an issue of the Google play store installing apps painfully slow. I uninstalled updates and it started flying again.

Likely could also be IPv6 related. Try installing the app dnset from the play store and activating it and testing. This app switches your phone back to using IPv4 dns servers (Google's).

I am trying this. Has anyone else?

I'm seeing similar behavior. Wifi itself has enough bandwidth as I tried with laptop.

You should be able to hide notifications for that app in the app manager. Just disable notifications for the app.

I tried disabeling notification but that notification is from system. Any way I am on Croatina Tele 2.
I did try changing to IPv4/IPv6 in APN settings and still nothing. My only succesful solution was with DNset app.
I would disable that key icon it in xposed but no xposed framework for MM yet :/

In the meantime you need to let your isp know their IPv6 dns lookups are having issues. Explain to them when you force IPv4 google servers you see the issue go away.

[Q] Strange Problem: Market only works only when the SUN is Shining! :(

I am now on the DARKY 9.4 stable ROM. I noticed the following problem only after installing Darky 9.2 rom. Not that I am blaming Darky's rom.
The problem is that almost without fail, market only works from morning to evening. After sunset (evening till next morning) it shows up a network error.
i thought the this is a temporary problem, and should go away automatically, however it is been 2 months that I am facing this problem.
i am unable to access Market during the time that the Sun is down .
i am able to access appbrain and other internet related applications, however no market..
Please help somebody?

I am back on a Stock Foryo; a new issue, which I think is the basic problem behind the Market not working in the evening/night time.
I rolled back to a stock in the evening, and I am unable to setup a google account in my phone. it says "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server"
However I can browse the internet through the browser, even check gmail through the phone browser..
I will try in the morning, hopefully I will be able to setup a google account then..

Eek, very bad stuff . Last time I had this I had to do factory reset (was on hero). Which I guess you done since you said you are on stock back again . If I remember the good old days with my hero. There was like. Clear data/cache for google account /gmail, use instead of "[email protected] [email protected]" etc . Which I am not sure how they worked if they did
Anyway good luck and I guess with "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" someone for sure can help you now
Well was just googling arround a bit this is what came out, maybe read the thread too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8455136&postcount=15 might help or not
Take it to the shrink mate, I believe it needs some sessions to cope with dark areas
Now serious, try using other wifi connection

HELP - KitKat STOCK - WiFi and notification issues??

Hi all,
I have serious issues with WiFi on KitKat. I'm stock, unrooted, and until KK everything was great and smooth.
As you can see on pictures, it says that I'm connected on wifi AP KUCNA, but when I go online it says there is no connection. Also. Whrn in Settings/WiFi, it shows it is not connected, and I need to connect manually and type password again.
Same problem I have when it disconnects from Wifi during slleep mode over night, it get connected, but it is not connected.
On top of that, on lots of WiFi networks I cant connect. No matter if I type wrong or correct password, it says connecting but nothing happens. Before KK everything was working fine, and I was connected to all theese networks normally.
Plus, I have issues with notification areas, some notifications disappear without me opening them.
Battery life on the other hand is great?!?
Any help is appricieated.
Thnx,

For now, did you try a full reset after the update. Give it a shot if not done already.

Also what I've noticed is that in Gallery if I go Share than select pictures to share it is ok, but if I click on picture first, I can't select Share icon, there is no dropdown menu to choose where to share.

You should try:
To fix wi-fi problem on 4.4.2 android you have to rename Wi-fi direct device name.
To do that you have to go

[Q] Losing GSM and WiFi signal

I was running CM 11 (maclaw's) then for about a month or so I was having incredible slowness on WiFi. After some hours on stand-by, I don't know what happens to my device, the WiFi get super slow. This is what a normal connection looks like:

}
and this is how a stricken one looks like: (note the ping value)
Then I jumped ship to CarbonROM (also maclaw's). The WiFi problem didn't go away but now I also have a GSM signal cut off problem!:
Like the WiFi problem, after some hours on stand-by the GSM signal cuts off, persists that way until I boot my device.
What could be causing my connection problems? Do you think it's the ROMs? I really need help. I can deal with the super slow WiFi issue but GSM cut off is really serious. (I was apparently called for an interview but couldn't receive the call!)

Install some other rom (not novafusion's) to see if the problem persists (don't forget to make a Nandroid backup first and to change the f2fs to ext4) and update your baseband(from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526831).

i did a clean install (while installing the latest carbonrom). same thing. bug report still doesn't work. never mind that. i still have problems with the wifi speed dropping significantly after some hours on standby. at least the GSM signal issue seems to be gone―which was the worst bug of all!

Baseband doesn't effect WiFi (it only effect GSM and radio) but the kernel effect WiFi
As xXPR0T0TYPEXx says baseband doesn't affect WiFi but only the GSM and radio (problem to CarbonROM).

unfortunately it does. i tried slimkat. the wifi problem persists.
then i installed maclaw's AOSPA. surprise, surprise(!) the problem is still there.
it's really annoying because when the problem starts, the wifi indicator happily indicates that it is getting full signal. but i am not getting any notifications or i am getting them with a massive delay, because my bandwidth has dropped below 1 mbps with humongous ping value.
i also didn't tinker with my router for a year. it runs the same firmware and same settings.
according here, -i guess- it seems to be a bug with android 4.4.4 :crying:
okay, i tried keeping gps on to see if there was any change...and there indeed was! this time the wifi speed didn't drop (but there was a cut off!):
so i am guessing it's a nasty bug that involves gps: in the absence of gps, wifi speed somehow decides to drop to creeping levels.
then i either have to keep gps on and sacrifice battery life or keep it off and manually on/off wifi every couple of hours :S

No way to get rid of msm hsic host wakelock? (drain only when 3g active)

So I've been searching but I can't find a solution to this annoying wakelock. This thing appears when I left wifi to connect to my mobile data. It causes a huge battery drain
It ONLY appears when I'm with mobile data on and wifi off. So, if I am connected to wifi or I keep data disabled, there's no drain at all
This is desperate. Very very desperate. I can see that some users are suffering this heavier than others (hardware problem?). Already tried with other sim card from other carrier, but no fix at all
I appreciate any kind of help. Attach two pictures for you to compare, this is a test for around 4 minutes with screen off. One is with wifi on, the other with wifi off, so using mobile data.

I appreciate any kind of help. Attach two pictures for you to compare, this is a test for around 4 minutes with screen off. One is with wifi on, the other with wifi off, so using mobile data.
Thank you very much

I'm not sure for your device, but for mine, N4, this is related to 3g network. So this wakelock is present when you are connected to mobile network via 3g.
To reduce and minimise this wakelock to unnoticeable minimum, I use smart radio option inside gravity box, bit you can use even better application, intelli3g: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.voidvapps.intelli3g
This app basically switches automatically to 2g when screen is off or you are connected to wifi.
As I said, this is all assuming your device is similar to mine, since I don't know nothing about your device

Thank you mate, but no luck, for me that doesn't fix the issue. In 2g it's the same drain that 3g. In fact, I used to use that app, but there was almost no improvement
So... People with htc one which are your stats, can you check your wakelock time while staying in 3g?
Btw I'm gonna try new kernels now... I've been said all kernels will be the same for this wakelock, but just in case...
need some help with this msm.hsic.host wakelock
need some help with this msm.hsic.host wakelock, I will try to post more screen shots. My battery drain occurs at any time, with wifi or not. WLD did say this was a kernel problem and recommended toggling on and off mobile data, this had no affect on this beast.
to me it seems like this is wifi network location reporting. I've tried to stop google's network location accuracy mode but it keeps coming back. If I'm outside using mobile data and gps I'm ok, only on wifi which I think google is trying to use the network location accuracy mode. Is there a build prop setting I can edit or apk to disable.

Lollipop update and the nagging wifi lag/issue

For those who have downloaded the OTA Lollipop update or installed the moforoot Lollipop ROMS-Have the WIFI lag/issues been fixed?
For those who don't know what I'm talking about it seems like the Droid Turbo either doesn't play well with certain Routers or a few build dates have some sort of flaw. It causes your phone when your on wifi to intermittently stop loading whatever you were doing i.e. loading a picture, a website, etc. Then you either have to hit refresh several times for the page/picture to load or switch back to 4G. However this problem doesn't seem to effect music streaming...
Hoping this is one of the reasons it took Motorola so long to update because they were addressing this problem...

I can say that it 100% fixed this issue for me. I am one of the folks who seemed to experience this almost all the time and was eagerly waiting to see if this problem would continue to plague me after 5.1. I used moforoot and am running v1.0 of computerfreek's LP image. I haven't flashed v1.0B because I read some comments about flaky 4G/LTE reception and I live in a sort of 3G/4G fringe area. I am very pleased with my LP experience so far.
check to make sure ipv6 is turned off everywhere. ipv6 will cause these nagging issues (confirmed)

At your wireless router.

It fixed it for me as well. That was my biggest ***** about the turbo and yes I *****ed about it a lot. I have had not one problem since. And previously I tried turning IPV6 off and it made no difference. At least on the 3 routers I tried. Currently IPV6 is on and I have no issues.
For sure it is the IPv6 in your router. I had the issue with 2 phones before I was able to figure it out and the second I disable IPv6 the issues went away permanently.

In spite of the tech hype about IPv6, it's not necessary for people who use a cable/telco ISP for internet access.
And IPv6 still has several security issues for people who just have it turned on without proper protection against IPv6-based malware due to Teredo tunneling (backdoors into your system).
Should I Disable IPv6?

My home router runs a mini version of DD-WRT which does not offer IPv6 access/support, and I keep it that way on purpose. "Regular" (larger) versions of DD-WRT do offer IPv6, but you can disable it:

I have also disabled IPv6 on both my personal Windows desktops for good measure.
When I run this test, I have IPv4 only and that's how I want it, for now.

This could also be cause by dhcp leases. I have seen long wait times dor dhcp ipv4 with a bang next to wireless. I reserved the ip and issue resolved.
Well I finally made the jump and flashed from Computerfreeks's KK to his LP rom yesterday...
...and my wifi lag issues seem to have all been fixed. I forgot how fast your home wifi can be! "(insert sarcastic laugh). I didn't make any changes to my router either. So maybe that is one of the hidden reasons it took so long to get this update out.
Hope this helps some other people.
