[ROOT] Fix battery drain in stock 6.0 rom - Android One (First-Generation) Cross-Device Genera

first you flash a custom recovery then install custom kernel & root your device
to root your device in 6.0 MM (alyxumair) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/android-one-general/root-mra58m-marshmallow-t3220471
I installed Thunderzap 3.5 kernel (varun.chitre15) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro.../kernel-thunderzap-1-0-one-kernel-to-t2890180
And then i installed Kernel Adiutor : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grarak.kerneladiutor&hl=en
And changed the cpu governer from interactive to hotplug; I noticed that in interactive mode the all 4 cores are always online & drains battery; but in hotplug mode it's works fine & battery life is good.
Also I installed Greenify app to save ram & battery usage : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify&hl=en

On contrary when i rooted i observed Doze feature stopped working. If you want to confirm go to developer option there setting named Inactive apps which you can toggle for active or inactive as per my info it is introduced in marshmellow which works like greenify even better than that.on rooting this toggling doesn't work so i assume Doze doesn't work too. Therefore for now i am gonna stay unrooted and wait till this gets cleared up.

The toggling works for me. I'm using monarch kernel.

i also use thunderzap kernel, running on interactive governor...
since my stock rom is debloated..no facebook, no messenger and any other bloatwares..battery is fine, though all cores are running, still stable, no force close issues on apps, specially nba2k14

That's what caused my battery to drain in stock 6.0...

I'm using Zeus kernel.
Better battery backup and performance.

at now everything perfect, doesnt saw any bug.
i only miss a widget, its the "active aplications", i found this picture of him:
in this picture the widget is in "tiny mode", only show the number and if o touch it gets to the task manager, the other mode show's all aplications in little tumbs and have an X to close directly an aplication or all together.

why u keep wifi on all night? that is keeping your phone from going to deep sleep.
K2wl like i said i have no issues with other androids phones with same wifi. The problem is kworker is preventing sleep. When i revert to stock kernel there is no issue. And i notice it only happens when i set it to min 312mhz frequency.

Introduction/About
Got an old unused zenfone 5 from my brother and I've compiled this kernel because i'm not satisfy with some of the available kernel so far. Nothing fancy, just a (hopefully) stable kernel for stock lollipop or custom rom based on stock lollipop.

I hv been using this kernel since yesterday noon..
Till now i haven't faced any kind of reboots and freeze issues..
But the "ondemand" governor makes the device Lag a lot...i am using either interactive or performance(preferably)...
Its also Good that u didn't enabled dt2w in this kernel, please don't enable it in the kernel since i want zenmotion only for sleep, our zenfone 5 has both of the options combined unlike other zenfones...
Also, a feature suggestion, if possible, try to lower the min brightness value to 2-3 , just like the ryanjms07's kernel...
Good job.!

weird that you're the second person that said to me not to add dt2w. i'm actually debating whether to add it or not myself, its a nice feature to have. probably will add it along with sysfs toggle for user to turn it off if dont want it. yes the ondemand lag abit, will change to interactive on next kernel. he doesnt give his kernel source so i dont know how he lower the brightness.

U can try using ,in terminal emulator,

Where ___ will be the density value, like 120,240,320 or any desired value...
After this, u can try nomone resolution changer app from play store.
@mdfzhi , do you know if you can overclock the gpu or cpu for this device? others devs tried but is kinda like a "fake" one, becouse it dosn't affect performance, if we put like 444444.4444ghz it will run fine, so you think is possible?
day use, the kernel reboots no good .but very heated cpu I used the governor ondemand.
does this phone have isssue with signal for anyone? i lived in area where mobile signal arent very good. seems like after singnal loss, something is keeping the phone awake and made it super hot. same issue when i'm still using stock 5.0 rom and kernel. does anyone know if any rom or kernel solve the issue? i could examine ramdisk in kernel that solve the issue and see what changes were applied in it.

No freeze at all?
ondemand on the profile and even interactive games are very heavy lag and delay necessary to put a performance profile
I really2 love this kernel because of its features that no other kernel has, but there is a problem that my sdcard can't detect, i have to revert back to boret's kernel to fix sdcard, please fix this cause i really love this kernel
.Very noted here that it makes it difficult, if my first simkarty is 3g mode and enable data transfer, I switched to the second slot, and includes data transmission and 2g network after some time returns the data back to the first slot and turn on 3g and transfer data will no longer work until you restart the phone really interfere with this because I have to switch modes and simkarty
@mdfzhi
Its almost been a week and now i found some issues:-
1.Freeze occurs sometimes (Like once in 2 days)
2.Battery drain is really more as compared to stock kernel (i did compared it with one day usage).
3.Network comes reallllly verrrry late after booting.
4.Frequent loss of network and never regains back...
5.Data never works sometimes, needs to reboot device in order to work (Airplane mode doesnt work for it)
6. Same issue mentioned by @duffi200000
compiled and uploaded new version. hopefully fixed the dreaded signal loss issue. init.d scripts should also working as it should be now. be careful with some roms that put crap tonnes of bloated init.d script. don't came whining about unstable, reboot or freeze if you didnt clean those script. i didn't use any init.d script except supersu daemon script and the kernel is stable so far.

When connecting the USB otg flash card speed of copying files is very low , you can fix
First at all, thanks for your important work.
I really like that the phone has become much more energy efficient at this kernel :good:
But I have two issues:
1. I got reboot when I talking on the phone (Zenmotion is enabled).
2. My phone doesn't detect the memory card.

[KERNEL][STOCK][TA-MOD] Xceed 4M [Synapse][overclocked][N910V][MM][note7port][Updated

Hello guys just wanted you bring to your attention the Exceed Kernel built by @kairi_zeroblade for us Verizon users, check out the thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/kernel-xceed-t3344742/post69474753
#######PLEASE FLASH KERNEL FROM INTERNAL STORAGE AND MAKE SURE THAT "SYSTEM" IS CHECKED UNDER "MOUNT" OPTIONS IN TWRP###########
#######All builds are based on the supersu 2.76 boot.img if you have supersu 2.78 and above, you will probably run into app permissions issues!!!##########
The Exceed 4F "V" varient is based on verizons latest PG2 kernel. It has been highly optimized by Kairi_zeroblade and includes:
All of the latest note 4 kernel sources so you have all of the most current fixes and optimizations from Samsung
Wakelock fixes
Exploit fixes
Ramdisk optimizations
GPU calibrations
It is compatible with note 7/s7 ports and stock TW Roms
Fully SELinux permissive(helps with installing viper4android and other mods)
And much more that I can't remember!
Kairi_zeroblade has all of the kernel settings pre tuned for amazing battery life and fast stable performace.
It is NOT recommended that you adjust the kernel settings EXCEPT for the ones available in Synapse.
Just flash and enjoy!
Do not forget to also flash the latest gpu drivers here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_3BNlXOVtO5bHp2MS12b291TjQ/view
These are based on the most current 805 adreno source (ph4 sprint I believe)
///////This kernel may give you the Volte and cloud (wifi calling) icons in the notification bar) see post 3 for my tip to disable Volte
Any questions or feedback, please post in the original Exceed thread^^^:good::good:
Side note........
///Kari_zeroblade does not like to add experimental features because they risk breaking the stability and battery life on the kernel. He keeps it simple and highly optimized. If there is a performance benefit you can be sure he will try to incorporate it though

New Nightlies guys!!
As promised I did bring a solution to the fts_wakelock and some security updates from Google..
Grab the test builds for your device here
#######PLEASE FLASH KERNEL FROM INTERNAL STORAGE AND MAKE SURE THAT "SYSTEM" IS CHECKED UNDER "MOUNT" OPTIONS IN TWRP BEFORE YOU FLASH###########

Thank you, and for your issues, just attach a log on your post and we will see what we can do for you.. :good:
Another Thanks to those who helped me get my build laptop fixed.. Merry Christmas to you..
######## BUILD 4F ########
Kairi_zeroblade:
Grab it from here
FG = is for F and G variants
V = is for Verizon
T = is for TMobile version
P = is for Sprint version
As promised, these builds can now be flashed on both NOTE 7 ports floating around here and at the same time with STOCK rom's too..if you ever find any issues do report with logs..else as usual I don't give a damn..I don't know why you're using a stock source compiled kernel with nothing and yet scores are lower than usual stock samsung kernel and you're like an Angry Bird jumping happily, when you have this project to "help and improve" (just my 2 cents) which has shown great potential (and worth IMHO)..
I'm sure you're aware you only now have a handful of devs supporting your device and if in the process you loose them all due to users being disrespectful and uncooperative then its your loss and not ours..
F Variants wifi needs testing though the necessary measures to make it work are already in place and has been checked..
Some patches to fix some Exploits were already added in, same thing goes with some upstream fixes from Google and CAF..Ondemand crashing is also been fixed (in my case) as I have tried to replicate the issue and grabbed something to ponder on..
Again for those who are supporting the project, Thank you very much!!

This test is specifically for the Verizon Note 4 running stock MM (latest, I forgot the build..lol) as this uses the updated ramdisk from that OTA update..this build also uses the Verizon Samsung Config so this is the proper kernel for your variant..please make sure you are on the latest MM Bootloader and Baseband for things to properly work (though @joemill tested this out and he had no issues to report)..this build also incorporates important kernel updates from the DPH2 (if I remember it right!!) from the N910P (Sprint, which will be supported once I get the laptop fixed, thanks to @joemill again for the boot.img dump)..I'll also include a GPU driver update package from the same update..

The kernel is based on the latest Verizon build PG2 I believe. As long as your bootloader is unlocked and on PD1 PD3 or PG2 (any marshmallow Verizon bootloader) then this should work for you
If you are still on 5.1.1 lollipop follow this guide to upgrade:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...firmware-safe-upgrade-to-marshmallow-t3402727
This kernel was tested on the latest paulpizz rom release.
I personally do not use VoLTE or WiFi calling and have never activated them or set them up on my phone. I never had either the cloud icon or the VoLTE icon with Paulpizz kernel, or Oscar kernel. When I flashed exceed the VoLTE icon appeared even though it is not enabled in the settings, "advanced calling" section.
I BELIEVE that those icons appear from flashing a modified kernel, more specifically a selinux permissive kernel(since this is the only kernel I've found that is permissive). Jasmine rom 6 had the icons appear with its selinux permissive kernel so in version 7 he left the kernel selinux enforceing.
Since I do not use VoLTE I went to others.Xml in the system/csc folder and edited this line:
<CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE>TRUE</CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE
To
<CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE>FALSE</CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE
Now the VoLTE icon is gone! and the 4glte icon is gray when connected to wifi instead of white all the time(I believe this means that 4glte radio is In a power save mode when not needed because you have a WiFi connection, also this improved my battery life quite a bit)
I personally would much prefer a kernel like exceed that has far better battery life and a selinux permissive kernel(so you can easy install vipers Android mods) even if it displays those icons.
I haven't had time to do anymore research but I would ask other verizon kernel developers(Paulpizz or Oscar since kari_zeroblade doesn't have a Verizon phone to test on) if there is a trick to remove those icons or if it is truly because the kernel is selinux permissive.
I would not mess around with any settings in kernel auditor or other kernel tweaking apps EXCEPT for synapse.
(Don't bother under clocking. The phone barely ever hits those top frequencys and when it does its better to complete the process fast and quick rather then hanging at a lower clock speed for a longer time. )
Undervolt and under amp in the synapse app can help your phone run cooler which will keep it from throttling cpu and gpu.
I personally run -45 uv and -12ua with zero issues in stability. If you undervolt you should always under amp to compensate for the drop in voltage. If you go to low your phone will just become unstable and probably lock up or reboot.
EVERY time you boot you will need to re apply those settings for safety.

Did you flash from your internal storage or external sd card? Also make sure that "system" is checked under the "mount" menu in TWRP

Did all that, had synapse installed and did tweaks to voltages and amps, had a random reboot then synapse quit working
Will this work with N7 ports on? I'm running Chevy 2.7.3 build based on N5 port I believe

That's strange. The reboot could be because you under volt or under amp too much. How far did you adjust them?
It should work with all ports but you might be the first person to test on that rom my friend. L

Every phone is going to be different, some may not undervolt at all, don't worry too much if it doesn't. It will not save very much battery life at all and will only make the phone run slightly cooler. The kernel should run really cool and have great battery life by default

Haha I don't blame you. It's hard to resist the temptation to tweak. Just flash let it settle and enjoy

Since I do not use VoLTE I went to others.Xml in the system/csc folder and edited this line:
<CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE>TRUE</CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE
To
<CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE>FALSE</CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE
Now the VoLTE icon is gone! and the 4glte icon is grayed out

I'm sorry for the off topic comment, but thank you for this fix. I've been looking for a way to gray out that 4g icon while connected to wifi for awhile. :good: @joemill

I think the battery life is better with it disabled too
Still a no go in Chevy's 2.7.3 build. Must be because it's a Note 5 port, Synapse app just says no UCI. I installed from phone memory with system mounted. Cleared caches and everything

I have been using this kernel successfully for the last week on the Note4 Grace Note7 based ROM v2. It has not had any crashes, or problems that I have been able to notice. I have not tweaked any of the kernel settings in the synapse app.
I have not specifically paid attention to the battery life after flashing, as I have not underclocked yet.
Is there an undervolt and underclock baseline that all Note 4s should be safe to start at?
Thanks.

Don't bother under clocking. The phone barely ever hits those top speeds and when it does its better to complete the process fast and quick rather then at a lower clock speed.
You can adjust the undervolt and under amp though, this will help your phone run a little cooler so it shouldn't throttle the cpu as quickly. It will not really help battery life though and you need to manually set it again after each boot.
Start with -45 under volt and -12 under amp (you need to under amp to compensate for the under volt) if the phone runs smooth (no lag or reboots for a few hours) then push it a little more.
You won't do any damage to the phone. If you push it too far it will just reboot and you'll be on default exceed settings.
I hope this isn't too dumb of a question, but I was wondering if I should flash the gpu drivers on my verizon Note 4. Thank you

Big core sleep problem poll, please help

As my problem seems to be ignored in some different thread I would like to make answering easy for you with this poll.
I have the problem on carbon rom that big cores go to sleep after aprox 30 minutes display off.
They just wake again after new boot up of phone.
This can easily be reproduced with geekbench or A1 SD Benchmark.
Please see attached pictures of Geekbench multicore scores about 4000 with big cores and 2000 without.
A1 varies between 8gb/s and 4gb/s ram speed too, please see attachments.
Also if you use app devcheck you see on first page first four cores always available and the last four cores switchimg between NA and Offline if cores active and always show Offline if cores are asleep.
Please see attached pictures.
Problems also have been reported from piku 123 in resurection thread and shivamg95 in lineage 14 thread.
Could s.o. tell me if this problem is also there for Los13?
I do have to mention that I am using 20s bootloader and 19s modem and have a once dirty flashed carbon rom latest build maybe. Phone unrooted.
Edit:
You can use Mr Bonsai.14 solition if rooted:
For turning on cores, root your rom, set Selinux to permissive. Use magisk or custom kernel.
Use kernel auditor and set governor of both cpus to performance( only while gaming).
Turn off HW overlays.
Instead of this you can also follow detailed instructions at the beginning of overload thread by Mr renjian thx a lot
Or if not rooted flash Los13
Kind regards
got it..

Your device is rooted, no need to use your kernel to solve the problem if so...
Will your kernel change selinux to permissive, like your old ones?

[Z5/Z5C/Z5P][MOD][+GUIDES][N] Endurance Reborn Essentials v1.3 final - Upd 2018-02-26

ENDURANCE REBORN ESSENTIALS for Z5 Series
- This MOD will modify the system parameters of your Z5 for ONLY ONE PURPOSE: to increase BATTERY LIFE
- Only battery tweaks, only useful tweaks (tons of tweaks is not the good strategy...)
- No performance tweaks (most of time, performance tweaks result in decreasing battery life...)
- Marginal loss of performance, device still smooth and reactive
- Very significant gain of battery life
- +useful guides in posts 2 & 3
This mod has been developped, tested and optimized with @HaoZeke's crDroid (LOS based) rom, but it works perfectly on stock based roms (I use Kryptonian at the moment) and probably on any other roms.
Features:
- build.prop battery tweaks (without modifying build.prop file)
- VM battery tweaks
- Innovative and effective memory management (LMK settings)
- ROW I/O Scheduler (best ratio performance/battery drain)
- I/O tweaks
- disable some useless wakelocks
- FS-TRIM partitions at every reboot
- DeadPool interactive governor profile
Requirements:
- Root
- Busybox
- init.d rom support
Installation:
- First, REMOVE all other system mods/tweaks (clear /system/etc/init.d folder, restore your original build.prop, uninstall LSPEED) from your device or it will be a mess!!
- Download the attached Z5_Endurance_Reborn_Essentials_v1.zip
- Flash it in TWRP recovery
- Enjoy
Warning:
- init.d enabler Magisk modules sometimes don't work at all depending of the Magisk version, best thing to do is using the init.d enabler of Kernel Adiutor
Note:
- Wait a little before to draw any opinions on this mod
- Feedbacks and suggestions for future versions are strongly encouraged
Changelog:
- 26 fev 2018 - v1.3 final version: Heimdall v5 governor profile replaced by DeadPool governor profile
- 8 dec 2017 - v1.2: fixed big cores tunables not applying at boot
- 24 nov 2017 - v1.1: small scripts modifications to ensure that all the tweaks are effectively applied
- 11 nov 2017 - v1: initial release

GUIDE 1
For an even better battery life:
1. Install the app Naptime and switch on "agressive doze"
You will still receive your GCM or FCM instant notifications when screen off.
Push reception will no longer work in your email client. So select scheduled sync (every 5 mn for instance). If it still doesn't work, use aquamail, it will work.
Some apps need to be doze whitelisted to continue to work when screen off.
2. Use Sony Power Optimizer
Install it as a regular app AND systemize it with Systemizer Magisk module or Link2SD and reboot.
Launch it and select the apps you want to optimize: they will be frozen and evicted from RAM when screen off.
As an alternative to Sony Power Optimizer, you can use Greenify.
3. If for some reason, idle drain with wifi on is greater than idle drain with wifi off and data on, go in settings - wifi - wifi configuration and select standby mode for wifi: never active or only if the device is plugged. In this way, wifi will be off when screen off and on when screen on.
GUIDE 2
For an even even better battery life, the following xposed modules are useful:
- Smart Network xposed module
I use it to automatically turn off location when screen off (and when screen on, location is automatically reactivated)
- Amplify xposed module
With this module, you can block or restrain wakelocks. But beware, some wakelocks are necessary and must not be blocked or restrained.
This is the list of the wakelocks I have restrained without any issue:
NlpWakeLock: allowed every 240 seconds
NlpCollectorWakeLock: 240s
NetworkStats: 800s
*net_scheduler*: 7200s
GCoreFlp: 7200s
Wakeful StateMachine: GeofencerStateMachine: 7200s
Icing: 7200s
NfcService:mRoutingWakeLock: 7200s

I'll give it a shot with stock 7.1.1, I have a question, what version of xposed do you use and do you still can pass safetynet?

0755 permission is right for scripts as per your zip? I thought folders have 0755 and files use 0644. Please correct me if I misunderstood.
Thanks
Offtopic: Do you use Viper ? Is it works with speaker ? If so which version it is? As I cannot get speaker working with viper as it says processing no always but works with Headphones.

Hey bro
init.d scripts need to have 755 permissions.
No, I don't use v4a.
With crDroid, I was using the DIVA soundmod and the JamesDSPManager.
Now, I use Kryptonian stock based rom, for the moment I use the DIVA soundmod and the Sony stock equalizer.
Hey..
Did you use universal init.d app?
Or is there another way to enable init.d ?
Im on stock 7.1.1 rooted

Creta the init.f foder if it doesn't exist (in/system/etc/)
Then, use the Magisk module init.d linker.
Unfortunately i dont use magisk (i don't like it )
I enabled init.d using the app on playstore but i cant make sure if your script is running (human nature you know) ?
Looks like this mod little increase battery, thank you!
Performance of device steel on good level.
Im using Lineage OS 14.1 on Z5c
Yesterday I got about 4 hours Sot with 13% left(8am to 11pm), when I used to get about 3 hours with the same usage, great work and thanks for your time!
