It seems that AT&T removed the android SMS messaging app? If I text the tablet it gets the text as a notification in the AT&T AllAccess app, but I can not reply to it. Is there a way to get over this issue?
Thanks.
Just install another.
I did installed a few
but it tells me that the app has to be set as the default messaging app in order to work. I went through everything looking how to set it up as the default messaging app, but no dice.

When you get a message come through hit that message and you should be asked how you want to open it, select the app you wish to use and make it default.
It just doesn't happen
I click OK every time but the pop up stays there.
Which app is that, I'd try handcent or hangouts.
I tried Hangouts, GO SMS PRO, Messages+, SMSdroid, and ZERO SMS.
Handcent does not even install. It says that it is not compatible.
Maybe att modified the framework to prevent an app from simply being installed.
AT&T definitely did something. Messaging is locked on the AT&T AllAccess app as default and that does not allow to send texts.
I found the apk and tried handcent too. I keep clicking setup now, and the window reappears.

I had a bad flash, managed to get my phone back with odin but now I have no sms capability at all. Tried to load the handcent sms off of market and that was not what I was looking for especially having to start a program and log in every time I want to send a message let alone receive one. I loaded cog 2.3b8 and I still don't have sms. I tried to do a search and after looking through sms post (wouldn't let me search for no sms) for 5 hours I still haven't found an answer, can someone help please thank you.
If on at&t go to mms, menu, settings, make sure message center matches this

You could just re-flash and you should be fine. ODIN first then re-flash.
Thank you that took care of it.
Thank you mcord11758 for the number that was the problem. I was going to the wrong screen to.
still have no outgoing sms
I have set the number and I can receive sms but I still can't send any messages. I have gone to stock then went to cog 2.3b8, then went back to stock now I have tried phoenix 5.2 still nothing. Next I have loaded the samsung mms and still nothing. I still have the messaging on my plan as I can use messaging if I use my incite. Thank you for any assistance.
App still shows available but will not sync or work. If you open market and search for gmail it does not pull up in the search results. However, I can go under " my apps" and see it , but when you click on it an error message of " cannot locate item" pops up.
Any ideas? I have given thought to deleting the app but since I cannot find it in the market , I'm not sure how I would get it back on the phone.
Thanks for any help you can give,
Jonathan
The app still works, I can send and receive email, but if I search for Gmail in the market it does not show up.
If I click on it from My Apps inside the market app, I just get this:

Well, scratch that. It is pulling up just fine in the market now. Perhaps a temporary market hiccup?
Either way, I'm glad it is showing up properly now.

It was pulled earlier by Google for bug fixes.
Just saw that

How would I add stock messaging apk to a rom and delete the aosp one? My problem is I love the clean eclpise rom but it does not have the option of thread messaging. so i can send a text to my 5 buddys and it wont send out 5 seperate texts and i get 5 seperate replies.
I am certain there is a flashable zip or stock messaging apk you could use, but try just looking in the google play store. sometimes people repackage stock apps and put them on the google play store (for example I use the app "ICS Gallery").
Other than that, you could try SMS replacement apps such as GO SMS Pro, Handcent, or chompSMS. They offer the choices in how to implement group messaging. attached screenshot is from GO SMS Pro.

Can you not freeze the messaging application and just install the apk you want?

Hi All,
Until recently, when someone text me I use to get a Notification like below.... Basically, I would get the first line of the message along with a picture of the person who text me.

- [Note] This picture is not from my phone, found it on the Net
I believe this came from the STOCK Android Messaging App, even though I had Go SMS Pro installed and Active as my main SMS App.
I accidentally clicked on an Unread Message (which I didn't mean or want to do... as I wanted it to keep popping up) and turned its Status from Unread to Read, and now it doesn't show up anymore... I have found a way / App to use that can turn the status of the message to Unread again.
However it will not pop back up into the Notification Pulldown bar....?? Any idea's what this feature is, and how to get it back up there please????
(I know its a random request, but I just prefer that message to be always up there...)
Thanks, Lister
:bump: Anyone....??
Thanks, Lister
I'm trying to replace a launcher but this option prevents me. Any way around it?

You need to sign in to the Vivo account in order to be able to change the launcher.

Whoa, that's big! They can just do that? 0_o
I'd just create a dud account with a garbage collecting email address (we all have one, right?). Do other default apps (messaging, phone, etc.) also have this limitation posed on them?
No, just the launcher. I've replaced the default phone app with Google Dialer, the email app with BlueMail, and the messaging app with NextSMS. They work fine as do their notifications. Some third party apps (like Google Messages) won't show a notification in the system tray if the phone is in system wide dark mode (they work in light mode) but that is a different issue from requiring Vivo's permission to replace the launcher, which requires them 'confirming' your account by email or text message by registering and signing into a Vivo account.
