New to Hero, have a few questions

So I know to remove all the HTC and Sprint software I'm supposed to need root.
Now, I don't need to load a custom ROM correct? I can just get root and then remove?
Also, I should be able to use nandroid to take a backup or the current state of my phone if I wish to revert back?

Yes to all questions.
Its up to you if you want a ROM or not. But if you root, and would like future updates, you would have to flash a ROM that incorporates the updates, such as the long awaited 2.0 or 2.1; the other alternative is to un-root to update. The only caveat to that is the exploit may be patched with the update.
After you root, take a nandroid backup in case you remove something important. You'll go back to the stage after rooting but prior to removing applications and such.

Thank you for the quick reply esoteric!
That pretty much answers most of my questions! I was going to use directions from "the unlockr". Would the community suggest this as a good source or is there a more suitable link here on xda?
unlockr is a great step by step guide to follow. There are also a few guides on here. If you like visual aid Unlockr has great videos.
guide
You could probably just use the search feature, but this guide should have the info you need to remove the bloatware. Guide here. Not to proselytize for using a ROM, but some at least optimize the sprint apps if you do want to keep any. I know Freshrom does for sure.
Cheers.

Remove root from htc incredible

I have the droid incredible with Virtuous-v3.2.0 and ClockworkMod 3.0.0.8 installed. However, I need to send the phone back to the manufacturer and need to remove root etc.
Can I?
I want to remove any custom rom and or if possible ClockworkMod to go to the standard setup. If i can only do the rom then that’s ok, but I would prefer everything back to stock.
I have looked for a while on how to do it to no avail. What roms/programs do I need? Is there an established tutorial? etc.
I know I am likely to be flamed for missing some previous thread about this and for that, I apologize and appreciate links to other threads.
Thanks in advance
wrong forum dude... first this is incredible S and this should go into general:
but to answer your question (which has been answered a hunderd times already so a search should got you there...)
run the ruu when device is started up. everything will be removed.

[Q] Stock ICS Bionic needing factory default reset - how to root/backup

I've spent time reading so many posts on this. And frankly its not clear which posts apply, which dont, and which are outdated.
I have the stock VzW ICS update on my Bionic. I've read in plenty of places a FDR is recommended. For that and some other
reasons (like to clean up junk from old applications) I wanted to perform a backup. I read about Titanium backup. Then I read
it needs root access.
I have some apps with in-app purchases and game with progress I want to save.
So I'm looking for the "right" thread on how to gain root access, so I can purchase Titanium backup and perform a backup.
then FDR the phone, then reinstall the apps+data that I want.
Most rooting posts I've seen talk about GB not ICS.
Can a kind soul clear away some of the chaff and point me to the correct/current instructions?
Thanks so much. In the meantime. I'll simply keep reading.
Peace

NOOB question about ROOT

Hi, this is noob question about root, its my first android phone and i wonder if root is necessary in my case
as former owner of iphone, i had to jailbreak my phone since apple system is very restricted
Android is more open-minded
i dont want to brick and dont want to spend much time if anything goes wrong
ROOT is it safe? what is its purpose?
Sony has made great stock rom, light and reactive, now with the latest firmware, we got better screen calibration, black navbar...
should i switch to the root or not?
thanks you
It really depends what you want from rooting. Ask yourself, what do you want to mod? Want stock rom? See anything you like from this
Rooting is safe, not unless youre doing it wrong without reading the instructions thoroughly.
Root: granting the users access to system files.
Here is a list of terms you may find helpful.
thanks but i am willing to root my phone but what if anything goes wrong
any backup before installing MODS?

When I first rooted my Android phone I was the same, why do I want to do this? I kept asking myself. Simple answer I just wanted to explore and get more understanding off what was in my pocket.
Have you unlocked your bootloader? Can it be unlocked? There is a really good site where there are step by step instructions on how to unlock it, it uses fastboot (to my knowledge - sometime since I done one).
Don't want to spend too much time if it goes wrong -- well how longs a piece of string? It will go wrong if you haven't read the proper tutorials don't go in blind, there are backup facilities available to you just find the one thats best suited for what you're doing.
Enjoy
what should i do before rooting like backup?
is that easy to root phone?
Backing up is really for after rooting as you may try various mods or other roms. You can then back up with twrp/cm. Give rooting a go....

Xposed framework without custom recovery

Hi,
A couple of questions about this. Firstly is xposed framework safe to use on the Xperia e4? The warning message about bricking nerved me out a little bit as I can't find info about running it on this phone online.
Also, does anyone know if there is a custom recovery for the e4? Obviously I need to be able to make and recover a nandroid to use xposed safely. I did find one thing on google, but with there only being one mention of it and it not being on xda I'm not sure I trust it. Unfortunately theres not a lot of info available here about this particular phone as we don't have our own subforum.
Thanks
Edit: a lot of my initial questions have been answered, but I still need help, please see post 3
I found people here that are having luck running xposed on the e4 so that's great news, but looks like I am out of luck on custom recovery, so I'm excited to try xposed, but nervous about not being able to do a nandroid first.
I have changed thread title as any phone specific questions I had have been cleared up. But now really wanting to know what other people without custom recoveries have done. As without one I can't create or restore nandroid, or use the disabler zip. What have other people without custom recoveries done to make the process safer?
