I am looking at getting the S6 edge. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

I have been a die hard fan of HTC phones since the droid incredible. Figure its time to try something new. My M7 tried to pop the screen out as I guess the battery bulged. I am wondering if its a good phone and if touchwiz worked out its lag issues I seen in the past. Need a camera that works good as my M7 had that purple haze issue. More so I need to know if foxfi still works on this phone as I have seen many phones stop working. If not will have to look in to root and hope I get a phone not on the latest upgrade so I can root with that one touch root. I need tethering as where I live we have no internet access.
So its this phone or the Google nexus 6 for Verizon and planning to pick up one tomorrow. So any insight is welcomed.

The galaxy s6 edge has the best camera and the best display. Touch whiz is bad for some users but not for me. Try buying the 128gb version, as it is probably the only one not to be updated to the latest base band

Just sent you an e-mail

If you need to root/modify then go for the nexus. If you want a stock android Samsung experience with features like Samsung pay, great camera, light weight then get the edge.

Anyone going to jump ship from the active to the gs5

Preordered the gs5 and was just wondering how many other will be leaving the active for the s5?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using xda app-developers app
I stay with active till something's betters with removable battery sd card and lcd screen comes out. I don't have money to switch phones every year, switching them 2 years if lucky.
But if I would win in lottery than I would wait for s4 active 2 or 3 version. Regular s4 has much better software support but I can't stand AMOLED screens and fast permanent screen pixel burn in. That's why I didn't bought s4.
New touchwiz is looking nice and I love to have live hdr in photos and videos
Ah I forget Im still Knox-free so I can root without losing permanent warranty but still on 4.2.2 I need 4.4.2 for Talk back but without Knox and with touchwiz stuff. At best with new touchwiz but this won't happen
typed from dark room
Considering most of us have had our S4As less than a year and are on contract, I'd say it will be awhile before we can even think about switching.
I got mine on contract also but with the wifi issues plus a few other ones its worth the extra $25 to upgrade to me
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using xda app-developers app
Oh yeah. I would have been fine with the S4A if Samsung had not ruined my phone with the ML2 update. Battery life is much worse (yes, I have replaced the battery with an official Samsung one), wifi and GPS are broken.

[Q] any regrets?

Greetings All,
I'm on a Note 3 right now, and Monday or Tuesday it's time for my upgrade. I'm torn between a Note 4 and the Nexus 6. The last 3 devices I owned were Note 3, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy S2. I'm really looking to switch it up here, and step back from Samsung for a little while. The Nexus 6 is my first choice right now, seeing as the Note 3 has me pretty spoiled with the large screen and the s-pen. I guess my question would be, since I've been seeing mixed reviews for Nexus 6 around the web, does anyone here have any regrets buying this device so far? And if so, are any regrets stone cold deal breakers, or just minor issues? I'm really looking at giving "vanilla" android (if that's even such thing on xda) a run, and I've heard that the Nexus devices have had the most and best development as far as that goes. So I guess I'm asking if there's any major problems with the Nexus 6 that is not being mentioned in a standard review, before I go scoop one up in the next day or two. Many thanks in advance...
My only gripe with this device is the poor cell signal. My phone is constantly searching for a signal and it is really impacting my battery life. Other than that I am happy with this device, hopefully T-Mobile pushes the OTA update for WiFi Calling soon.
no regrets here. want unlockable, rootable device that I can do as I want with. this is my first Nexus device. got it from Moto direct. on VZW
have generally had moto devices in the past and like their overall solid construction.
like Samsung devices but they are always a but flimsy IMHO.
None at all, I came from my 2 G3's (D850 and F460) and haven't looked back. My wife liked my Nexus so much (except the size) she wanted a Moto X 2014 so I bought her one. This so hands down my favorite phone so far
If u get the nexus use HDR+ on your camera day and night looks amazing. I thought I would miss Samsung but I don't . I miss the knock on. With the g3 but that's something I can put on the nexus
My only regret was not buying this phone sooner.
I'd only have a regret if something with otherwise the same specs but a smaller screen came out within a month of release; I guess I also regret switching to T-Mobile right before release but that's a different issue.

Whoa, no WiFi calling?? I kind of need that for work....
Got it. I think I'm gonna go scoop one up tomorrow. Thanks all
I regret not waiting for the Nexus 6+ with the 6.7" screen.
Do you like to spend time tinkering?

If you have the time to tinker and are willing to wait for things to get fixed or turned into features, this is the phone for you. If you have been using Samsung devices and think you will get anything close to the features Samsung adds, especially to their Note line, forget it. One thing the Nexus will help you see and appreciate is all the care and hard work that goes into their overlay. Things you may have thought were standard user options turn out to be features of branded manufactured phones. I have much respect for the care that Sammy and LG and even HTC puts in their phones now that I'm pure Vanilla. So, yes// there are definitely some trade offs I was unaware of.

Nexus to S6

Hello,
I've order the 64Gb S6 deal from T-Mobile. I've been a lifetime Nexus user from the Nexus One. I've always stuck to pure Android and the phone I currently have is the Nexus 5. I've purchase every generation of Nexus phone except for the Nexus 6 because I didn't like the size. The S6 seems like a winner and I'm already use to a non-removable battery and no SD card. I'm not sure how I'll deal with TW(heard it's been toned down) vs stock Android. That really is my biggest worry and I've been researching a way to uninstall all the bloatware(T-Mobile) without rooting(Though I might do that with PingPong and deal with manual updates). I really wish they would have released a Google Play Edition. I am pretty excited about the class leading hardware, especially the camera. Others who have switched from stock Android to the S6, how do you feel? Loving it? Ready to switch back to a Nexus device? Let me know! Thanks!
Also I'm a avid Google Now, Ok Google user.
My last couple phones were stock android (one plus one, nexus, moto x) and I'll tell you, I don't miss them. The s6 is that good. Battery could be better, but I'm hoping rooting helps (I'm on day one of a custom ROM so we'll see). I also use the "OK google" phrase a lot, so you'll be disappointed to know it doesn't work on the s6 for some reason unless you're using google now or google launcher.
I was in the same boat as you. I went from a 32gb Nexus 5 on AT&T to 64gb Galaxy S6 T-Mo. I'm not a big save my entire music collection on my phone guy, I prefer streaming services. 32gb Nexus was fine for me and battery life sucked. I love the GS6, super fast, I find the battery life more than acceptable, I'm rooted via Ping Pong and actually don't mind Touchwiz this time around. Hated it on my GS2 Skyrocket and GS4. I just rooted and plan to update with Flashfire to keep Knox intact
I was worried about keeping KNOX intact too. I used to install custom ROMs back in the day but as Android has gotten better I haven't done it on recent phones. I just wanted to be able to uninstall bloatware so that's why I'm thinking about rooting. I love the fact that the T-Mobile version has no carrier branding and now I can't wait till this thing gets here. Other than software do you know how different the T-Mo version is from the international version?
N6 64GB to S6 64GB. No remorse whatsoever. Especially with a Tab S also, having things like SideSync is great.

Not any major differences. If anything T-Mo variant has a few extra features like voLTE and WiFi Calling enabled by default. I went with the JUMP option when I switched to T-Mo so I only have to pay off half the device to upgrade. I see no reason to get international version over T-Mo variant. If it were AT&T or International I'd go international all day. My girlfriend has the AT&T variant as she is still on a family plan with big corporate discount. With Flashfire the locked AT&T bootloader isn't crippling but more of an inconvenience
I went from the Nexus 5 to OnePlus One (CM12) and now to the S6. I love the S6. I use the Google Now launcher instead of TW and it doesn't feel all the much different to me. I like the added gestures TW brings (such as palm swipe for a screenshot).
For the bloatware, I simply disable it in the applications menu. When you disable them, the app also disappears from the app drawer.
I was Team Nexus for a while and had a GNex, Nexus 4, 5, and 6. I switched to the S6 because the N6 was too big for my taste and the S6 hardware was just so damn nice (body, camera).
Do I miss stock Android? Hell yes. There's very little (if anything) that TW does better. However, after a few hours of research and tweaking, I've got my S6 looking and feeling as close to a Nexus as possible. I recommend Nova Launcher, Moonshine icon pack, and Hifont to help with that. Also I rooted (before PingPong was available, unfortunately) and used TiBu to freeze all the bloatware I don't need. I'm pretty happy, but I'd be even happier if someone could get this Material Design theme ported to the T-Mobile variant!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6/themes-apps/wip-material-design-theme-s6e-t3108155
For what it's worth, my S6 (with no mods other than frozen bloatware) is as snappy as my Nexus 6 running stock 5.1 with Faux kernel.
ping pong root. You basically root the stock rom, knox is NOT tripped. So its good as long as yuou only want to make small changes to your rom (like getting rid of bloat completely and not just disabling it).
Thats what i did and it worked AMAZINGLY well.

Yeah, I think that's my plan. From all the review of current TW I don't think I'll mind so much. I just want to be rid of all the bloat I won't use. The phone feels amazing and I'm waiting for a glass screen protect now before I start using it. How do you guys feel about the recent new of possibly 2 new nexus phones coming out?

Really TW isnt that bad on the s6 now. I can deal with it. and honestly until this phone i have been a "gotta get a glass screen protector before i buy the phone" kinda guy. i have had this one without one and i havent scratch the screen once (have had it in my pocket with screws and nail on accident too a few times). I may end up ordering one, but i HATE the fact that the screen is curved on the sides and the protector doesnt go to the edge. IMO, just looks janky.
the 2 nexus phones is super interesting. I am REALLY hoping that the smaller LG made nexus is real cause i MIGHT be all over that. I had the g3 before this and really liked it. I did what they did with the g4, and as long as the new nexus takes the camera from the g4, that might be my next jump upgrade when it comes out. lol Not interested in a phone bigger than 5.5" anymore. After having the g3 for 6 months, and now going back to the smaller s6, i think this screen size is my sweet spot for sure.

Same experience for moving from a Nexus 6 to a S6.
Your making the right move op. I am not missing the stock experience at all as we already have Root / twrp / (tw for now, 920 T/F) ROM's / kernels / themes here. I've been busy flashing and finding largely positive results; devs are cool / smart peeps here. Much more stable options here imo.
Even just rooting and casually dialing back touchwiz to your liking is easy with titanium.
Moreover, the S6 hardware is largely unmatched to date. Backing up a 4.3gb .zip in twrp took 192/secs; octa 64bit rocks even on little stuff like that. Its not perfect, but its arguably THE superior android flagship right now.

LG G2 Thoughts in 2015/2016

With 2016 approaching do you have any intentions to upgrade to the LG G5 or otherwise? What's keeping you from upgrading or pushing you towards upgrading?
I only need Band 2 LTE to use my new T-Mobile line with. What about you guys?

I would probably switch to G5 if it comes with a 4k display and if it looks something like this the concept shown on techradar.
I'm pretty happy still though haven't had phone long. Would like an update to 5.1.1 then see what comes along. Lots of good phones out there now at good prices. But this is still one of them.

I wouldn't. The battery life of this one its incredible and the new ones dont offer anything that can be real % improvement.
Only if LG creates something like the S6 active (with incredible battery, water resistant, rugged, etc) that would be the only reason to change it. Otherwise, there's something that the G2 can't handle?
If the GPS was perfect, then I would never upgrade. This phone can still do everything and it's perfect size and screen to body ratio.
I feel like the camera could be better. So I am upgrading the note 5 or moto x pure. Going to try another rom first though.
GPS is my number 1 issue, mine doesn't work at all. I will hopefully upgrade when the new Nexus 5 comes out (Verizon better have it...)
This phone has aged really well though, still as fast as when I got it (my galaxy nexus not so much) and there's really been no significant improvements for phones since it came out.
I'm not interested in a phone that I can't update myself and there just really hasn't been anything that I am interested in upgrading to that's out currently.
The stock rom on this phone is god awful ugly though, got rid of it immediately with CM.
The battery life is why I haven't moved on to a G3,G4 or a Samsung. My GPS works fine, when I need it. I'm only rooted and using the LG stock rom 39a.
My only real wish is a better camera, though the video part comes out fine

the jury is out
My wife has had hers for over a year, my screen broke. I just bought her a nexus 6 for christmas, she bought me a note 4. The jury is still out for her lol I think she likes the G2 better. The note 4 she got me is verizon so Im not very impressed. Ive had the Tmobile note 4 and that was a GREAT phone. The VZW version just isnt development friendly. Sucks because I love the note 4.

Who's moving on to a nexus?

Just curious to see if anyone is making the jump now that the new nexus' have been released for pre-order. If so what was your main reason? Easy root? More development? Hardware? Software? And if not are you staying with Samsung after the lock down they put on there phones? I myself have owned several nexus phones before and they have always been great, my only issue is there is always some hardware spec I'm missing, usually the camera. Right now with this variation I feel the 5.7 inch screen is a little much for me and know ois for the camera on the nexus p and the nexus x is the right size but way to underwhelming as far as specs go.

You could probably sell your edge and recoup most if not all of the cost of the nexus... that or find someone in a few months willing to trade straight up

I preordered my nexus 5x. I went from a nexus 5 to this and have regretted it ever since. My main reason is the openess..there's a huge battery problem that could be fixed without having to wait on Samsung if there wasn't a bootlock.
Yeah man after having several nexus devices I switched to the lg g3 then this and I miss the development possible with the nexus. I don't know if anyone from the att forums ever pops in on a nexus development thread but it's a virtual playground of new roms, kernels, and useful mods. Don't get me wrong I'm appreciative of anyone putting in work on the att variants, it's just nowhere near the support a nexus gets! If they would just come out with a soild camera and the premium specs the 6p has, I would've preordered also
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Tapatalk
I am cant wait to get it. I doubt im ever coming back to samsung =(
I'm getting swayed myself. My notifications, device wake don't work unless with CM locker and then it's still not consistent. Then there are the gremlins here and there but there are some that really bothers me.
Plus I'm tired of my Nexus friends getting the new upgrades all the time.
I know how you feel, especially considering if I had a nexus right now I would have the marshmallow update already. Unfortunately I'm still stuck on 5.0.2 because I don't wanna lose root! By the time we see marshmallow it'll be on the SGS7! I sweat if tmobile gets it together with a consistent lte signal Im done done done with AT&T
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Tapatalk
Samsung makes very nice phones but i really want more flexibility. I have already ordered a Nexus 6P and i hope i am going to like it. I am only worried because it is bigger than my edge.
If its your first nexus you will love it, theres almost too much flexibility! Youll find yourself messing with everything lol. The only thing is you dont get the gimmicky stuff as much as you do with manufacturers like samsung and htc. Some people miss that. The size difference, thats another story and partially why I have held off until I can hold one and see in hand the difference. I had the LG G3 and that is about as big as I think I can comfortably go with a phone.
Last time i had a samsung was the note 2.. i hated that phone so much i traded it for a optimus g pro. loved that phone still have it today. i swore i wouldn't go back to samsung. then the s6 appeared. 64 bit cpu exynos was destroying the benchmarks. smaller more efficient cpu manufacturing, awesome screen, glass, metal. smaller more efficient battery and finally tw had less bloat.damn made me change my mind. i had to pre order....... i have hated this phone since month 3 of owning. i hate this samsung. cant wait to get rid of it. i gave my htc m8 for this crap. m8 never lagged like this pos and battery was better. and the phone seemed faster idk how or why. samsung made me hate samsung. so yeah im getting a nexus just can't decide which. waiting on the reviews. not making the same mistake of pre ordering
Yeah man I know, that's why I skipped the s5. I've owned the sgs2, Samsung galaxy nexus, Sgs3, and sgs4. I got in on the sgs4 while there was still a bootloader exploit, however once i saw they locked it down in a way where the later versions could only use safestrap I was like, no way will I ever come back to Sammy. Skipped the sgs5 and went with the LG G3 but was lured back by the specs on this phone!! Samsung always has the hardware I want in a phone, best cpu, great screen, good camera, couple cool little gimmicks to play with... but this allowing manufacturers to lock down bootloader and essentially kill the dev scene is really pissing me off. I have always bought my wife HTC phones when I upgrade because I can never decide between 2 phones, her m8 still running as smooth as day she got it, I didn't even unlock and rom it like I usually do. I just cannot find the perfect storm of cutting edge specs that I want and development to go with. Sucks!!!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Tapatalk
The reasons I like Samsung phones is their hardware. Great camera, screens, better memory configurations, and lately the design of the phone. If all that was put into the nexus then it'd be an easy decision. Unfortunately the nexus lacks that. Idk what my next phone is going to be after this debacle.
