Hi,
I've recently bought a Galaxy Tab. It's an euro/international model, completely new. I downloaded Flash, and checked functionality. There's a quite big issue with embed YouTube videos - they lag, a lot. Sound is normal, but video is really laggy. Although I noticed that when I touch the screen and keep my finger there, it displays video normally, as soon as I release it, it starts lagging again.
The tab is now rooted, running the newest overcome, but the issue showed up on the stock gingerbread and on overcome as well. I've tried playback on default browser and on Dolphin HD on all ROMs, and ran the One Click Lag Fix as well, nothing helped. The YouTube app works fine though, it's only the embed videos.
I'd really appreciate any help with the issue - I've searched a lot but found nothing on this.
I have attempted to search for this but can't find what I'm looking for. Right now I'm running Vegantab 7 on my G and some but not all videos are skewed when you try to play them. The sound works great and the video is there but it is too skewed to tell what it is. Unfortunately I can't figure out what causes it, hit or miss on youtube, and all of the videos on great battles medieval do it.
ive seen it too, taking it off HQ for the screwed up video seems to fix it. last but not least, try using your browser on the youtube site, even though I know thats not a fix
I was curious if anyone has problems playing the vids on youtube that are HQ. If I turn off the HQ for the the vid then it plays no problem.
When I leave it on, a msg from the app displays just saying there was a problem playing your video please retry.
I've experienced this only in one other app recently released by funimation.
Hulu and netflix work fine for me. I have tried a multitude of roms to see if its linked to specific ones.

Question has been asked a million times . Anyways here's your answer, you need to use an older version of the youtube app for HQ to work. AFAIK the last working version is 2.1.6. Happy youtubing!
I have seen this a million times as well. But I never really paid any attention because I didn't care.
But yesterday I was testing some system app mods, so I ended up downloading YouTube from the market. HQ videos were playing for me.
I guess that's unusual or whatever. Maybe they weren't really HQ quality, I don't know. But they were playing.
Me and the kid watched funny cat videos for over an hour.
Non-opengl, no system mods that would matter.

That's interesting, what rom are you using?
Could you try it out again and report back?
I was afraid it was something app related. Its not a big deal. Was mostly curious as well as seeing if I could do some tweak to get the funimation app to work as well. Thanks for the help!

For those of us who want to use the older version until things get fixed or worked around in the roms, how can I hide the older apk from the market so I don't get spammed all the time to update?

Go to settings in market/play store and tell it to not notify you of any updates.

Okay, well I had flashed a couple of times since I posted that, and when I went to try it again, it didn't work. I knew I wasn't wrong the other day, so I reflashed what I thought I had been running before, and now the HQ videos are working with the current market YouTube.
The change between working and not working was I didn't flash the "take1" kernel like I had before.
So this is the setup. I am running a straight build from source, without opengl. I built it myself, but that shouldn't matter. It was built on April 8th, and comes with the standard kernel (no NAT filter or any of the new commits.)
The only difference between mine and the eyeballers (not counting any cherry-picking he may be doing) is that I compiled in a port of PDroid. There are some changes to some system apps, but I don't think that would matter.
Basically, anyone running a straight flash of eyeballer's April 8 build should have the same ability to run the videos with the HQ button on or off. I will not swear they are true HQ videos, I don't know that for certain. But the videos run either way.
EDIT: Let me know if anyone else has this working. I don't know much about YouTube or the whole HQ/HD thing and may be losing my mind.
I thought I had isolated the problem to a gapp, but now am not so sure. I will test again if no one else can get these working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a bunch of stuff, and don't want to keep doing it if everyone can see HQ with the above setup.
Maybe everyone can in any setup and only the few people on this thread haven't realized it yet. idk.

Ah I see you are using a CM9 build. There might be something to that. I'm on CM7.2 . Maybe in CM9 it got fixed somehow.
I thought it was working in cm7 as well. Maybe it was just a modded app though, which is no better than an older apk.
Well, unless someone with cm9 tells me it's unique, I will just assume everyone has it working. They probably do, I have never looked at it before I saw this thread the other day.

My experience has been that HQ sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I believe it is due to the actual quality of the video being played. For non-HD videos the HQ is lit up and the movie loads and plays fine. For HD videos that are actually HD you get the error message and have to uncheck HQ to get the video to play.
I have had this experience in several different configurations:
eyeballer's opengl builds, original kernel
eyeballer's opengl builds, updated kernel
eyeballer's opengl 4.9, updated kernel take 2 (current setup)
I would like to know if others have the same experience with "HQ" working for what seem to be non-HD videos and not working when the video actually appears to be HD.

Just flashed stock/rooted Marshmallow last night and after playing around for awhile I've noticed that when I search for a video from Chrome, YouTube videos are unclickable and basically do nothing. For example if I search for "The worst day at work ever" click the videos tab in Google search, click a video.. Nothing happens. Is anyone else experiencing this or know how to possibly fix it? I've tried clearing app data in both Chrome and YouTube but it didn't fix. Thanks

Facing the same issue, checking hw overlays solve this issue but I'm not a dev and I don't know if always checking hw overlay is ok or harmful for the phone
this seems to be a bug with the youtube app on the most recent update. also experiencing same thing..
watching youtube on uc browser doesnt have this issue.. so this is basically an issue with the official youtube app..
This lag has been fixed few weeks ago, but after 6.0.1 released it has returned. Just wait for YouTube app to update

tmobile has the new binge on feature, that lowers the quality of youtube video(even though youtube usnt included). thats why. and the fix for that is to disable binge on.

nice to know.. but yes im also having some lag on youtube, but not most of the time.. the most prominent lag is when you are scrolling on videos below the player from the official youtube app and video playback stutters but not the sound but it resumes good after you stop on scrolling ...
