All, I am traveling back to France next week and was wondering if any of the French SIM cards (SFR, Free, etc.) would work on my phone. I will be there for 2 weeks and would rather get a SIM card there instead of enabling international service with ATT which seems to be a rip off.
I hope someone can help!
As long as your phone is Sim unlocked it will work. The pure edition is by default. For others you need the unlock code from your carrier. Note that this is different from bootloader unlock.
Yes, I have the pure edition. I originally bought the XT1092 from att and broke the screen so I contacted motorolla for a replacement and they sent me a new XT1095 (unlocked).
I was more worried about the bands butbi guess I can see what's being used back there and what the phone does support.

I purchased a AT&T Moto X during the recent sale from Motorola for using it on straight talk. I assumed ATT version will work on ST as it is an MVNO of ATT.
I cut down a Straight talk micro sim card into a nano sim card and inserted it into Moto X. It never prompted me for an unlock code. I ported my number from ATT gophone to ST and they (ST) say it is active and provisioned as per their system. But I cannot make any calls and it is not connected to any network. It says HOME at the left corner. When I installed a SIM detector app from google play thru Wifi, it detects the SIM number and the other data. I spent lot of time talking to ST (they say the SIM is active and provisioned as per their system) and Motorola (they say since it is locked to AT&T, it is not working on ST). I tried to get AT&T to unlock it but they will not.
I cut down a AT&T go phone microsim into a nano sim card and activated it under AT&T go phone with a new number , it works. But I want to use it on ST.
1). Is my phone being locked to AT&T, the reason it is not working on ST. If so, if I purchase an unlock code online, it should work. But I never got any unlock code prompt at any time when I put in the ST sim card several times.
2). My ST sim card may not be LTE (I am not sure if it is lte or not. I had it with my previous ST account phone). Could it be the reason?
I appreciate any help/suggestions.
Before you stick the ST card in there, clean it first. Try it again in a few hours. Mine didn't work either the first night

1. You do not need an unlocked phone to use a ST sim running on the AT&T network. If you are using a t-mobile sim, you will need the phone unlocked. What are the first 5 digits on the sim card? I think AT&T is 89014.
2. I would buy a new ST sim card and cut it out again. That way you know you have the LTE version. Buy it NOW so you get the free Next Day shipping. It expires tomorrow.
Unless you plan on using LTE in Canada or South America, you should have bought the Unlocked GSM Moto X. They are/were the same price, but come unlocked and without bloatware from AT&T.

It starts with 89014 plus 15 digits.
I should have brought the Tmobile version which is unlocked but thought AT&T version may be less problematic with ST which is an MVNO of AT&T. I did order a new ST micro sim card today
Hey all.
I ordered a moto X about 2 weeks ago, i got the unlocked Tmobile version that was on sale for 350$
anyway i live abroad and i was sure that i would be able to use the phone here (like the moto G) but i cant, it seems that the phone is ONLY unlocked for US carriers.
So my questions are:
1) is there an easy way for me to unlock it Globally for free? (Tmobile said they can do it but only from a store in the US).
2) I saw people can buy unlock codes, but my phone does not show that it is unlocked so i'm not sure if that will work..?
Any help would be very appreciated!
Tevie.
If you have the tmobile version then the phone is already sim/provider unlocked.
Which phone exactly did you get and what specific problem are you having?

I got the moto x from moto maker (picked the unlocked T-Mobile version)
The problem is that its not unlocked for Sim abroad, only in the U.S . I wanted to know how I can get it to work with a Sim not from the U.S
TMO version is supposed to be unlocked for any carrier. How do you know that it is not the case? Did you try to put non-US SIM card and it failed?

I know my friend in Belgium who ordered it and its working fine with his Belgium Sim. Try to put the SIM in and see how it goes. It should work.

Thanks for the replay's.
I did put a local Sim in the phone and it could not register to a local networked (the same Sim worked in a different phone )
Note that it found the local networks just can't log to them.
Note 2 . TM told me that its locked for use abroad ...
It is 100% unlocked, there is no partial lock on the phone. If the phone can't register with your provider there is a different problem not related to sim locking.
I'm using my T-Mobile X in the Caribbean all fine with no hiccups or issues. Maybe it needs the APN.

I bought the T-mobile version form Moto maker, and without a problem put a Base nano sim in it. Works fine. Strangely enough it shows 4G almost everywhere... Wonder if that is correct?

Does it jsut show the 4G symbol or the 4G with the small LTE next to it? If you have HSPA service, you will see 4G.
4G it shows, which in Belgium is HSPA+

I believe the answer to this is "no", but:
I have access to an AT&T SM-G900A that is not being used. My daughter is about to move to Germany for an extended period.
First, can the phone be used in Europe at all?
I certainly wouldn't want to pay AT&T's probably-exorbitant rates, so then: can we buy a SIM card there to use in it as is? (pretty sure the answer is "no")
If I unlocked the phone (by buying an unlock code), could it then be used with a Europe-purchased SIM card?
I suspect this is all more trouble than it's worth and I'm better of just finding a used unlocked GSM phone of some sort.
Much thanks.
if you can use it abroad unless you unlock it first.
I have a galaxy s5 att and I am using it with another carrier here in south america.
only bad thing is that the wifi hotspot will not work for being a simcard from another operator, only work by usb tether.
It's working well. I bought an AT&T Galaxy S5 from USA and now I use it in Romania.
The WiFi hotspot is not working, but all the other features work very well.
Probably, after the bootloader will be cracked and we will have the opportunity to install a custom rom or an unbranded rom, the hotspot will function as well.
Enjoy your gadget !
All answers are correct. I was formerly in the U.S.Army and took an old T-Mobile HTC Dream over to Kuwait with me. I called T-MO and got a sim unlock code for free. Upon getting overseas I established service with a GSM carrier over there and popped in my sim card and whallaa! My phone completely worked in Europe and the middle east.

Hi everyone,
i got a Sprint HTC One M8 from ebay, it is new but i was planning to use it on AT&T network, since it have a Sim Card Slot. Furthermore, even though i'm living on the US now, i'm from Brazil and i was planning to use the phone there as well.
And now starts the problem.
I called the previous owner, asked him to contact sprint to make the sim unlock procedure. He did so, providing me the MSL for the phone. The next step, he said, was to "flash" the phone on AT&T in order to get it connected to their network. I tried several sims, even bought a new one and activated it but with no success.
I spend almost 2 hours on the phone with the sprint's international support, and all they said was that they did everything that they could about unlocking my phone and now i should contact AT&T.
I'm afraid of staying on this infinite loop and i want your opinion.
Does anyone in fact unlocked their SPRINT phone to use on another GSM US carrier? If yes, what did you do? Because i'm planning to return the phone and ask for my money back.
BUT, with the "International Unlock" i should be able to use the phone on ANY international carrier? Because if that is the case, maybe i keep the phone to use when i go back to Brazil.
Thank you very much!

On the CDMA version of the M8, it lacks the LTE bands needed for Domestic carriers. You can use it overseas somewhat, but not too well. If I was you, I'd grab a Droid Turbo for ~$200-$250 off eBay. It just recently got its bootloader unlocked finally
Hi
Any advise on unlocking my recently bought Verizon Droid 4? I tried the service from sim-unlock.net and they seem to have troubles doing it, because the device uses CMDA and cannot be unlocked by code.
I am stuck right now and searching for a solution mainly provided unsuccessful stories or questions without answers. I have tried the default 000000 and 123456 and they failed and have only one more try left
Please keep in mind I don't live in the US and calling Verizon can be pretty costly. I've seen a post of someone calling Verizon for hours and never managed to unlock his phone.
Phone bought on ebay from a seller in the US should be unlocked to be used on a GSM network in Europe. I already bought a pre-paid sim card
Just replying to my own post to give an update.
The code that was prompted to enter was not to unlock it from the previous carrier, but the sim unlock code from the pre-paid card.
After unlocking that I could immediately start calling with it. So I assume this Droid is already unlocked... I was totally surprised by that, I was convinced that unlocking was necessary (it was even mentioned by the seller from ebay)
While investigating this I found out you can call to the US very cheap (1 ct / minute) by some services. So I've learned a few useful things
Now my next challenge will be to install cyanogenmod on the Droid

Imho all Droid 4's are GSM unlocked. GSM is what's been used in the EU so it will work just fine.
They are only locked to Verizon in the US (CDMA instead of GSM).
