Can't mount /factory or /cache - kind of a brick - MeMO Pad 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there!
I got my tablet messed up so I was trying to "un-brick" it using the factory images and the temp recovery. All good, until I try to flash a zip. These errors won't go away:
E: unable to mount /factory
E: unable to mount /cache
This prevents me from doing basically anything. I cannot flash any firmware because of these. Of course, the repair partition fails also...
Any ideas?

I managed to format the /factory and /cache partitions so now I got rid of that error. Still, trying to flash a firmware on it and failing miserably from unknown reasons... Isn't there a firmware flash tool available for this device to write the firmware directly into the nand?
Later Edit: Nope, /factory still not mounting...
Even Later Edit: Still no mounting, I managed to dig deeper in the error and it seems that the main message is "can't format unknown volume /emmc". What shocked me is that after unplugging the tablet from PC (using the tethered recovery trying to fix the stuff), I booted in recovery (volume up and power), and to my surprise, I was met by the ol' American Megatrends UEFI - check the attachment... I guess I messed up the bootloader so bad that the Intel chipset took over?

So it seems that the tablet won't boot up in any way. Every boot procedure (power button, power + vol up, power + vol down) will start the UEFI. Go guys!

[Q] [HELP] Error mounting /system & /cache in stock recovery

Guys need your attention & a consoling solution for my bricked phone, that can go in recovery & download mode. But the stock recovery mode says
--Applying multi CSC--
E:failed to mount/system(Invalid arguement)
E:failed to mount/cache(Invalid arguement)
E:cant open /cache/recovery/log
The troubled began when i added internet tweaks to build.prop.
When i reboot, phone got stuck at samsung logo.
Then when i opened cwm their i found error mounting system, & was unable to restore backups but when i used Rafael's "FORMAT ALL EXT4.ZIP" i was able to mount /system in cmw but these errors got shifted to stock recovery
now i'm able to flash zips & restore backups but of no use. still phone stuck at logo
Do i need to take my phone to Service center or any other advices?

The reason you are getting those errors is that stock recovery cannot handle ext4, that's normal.
Probably the simplest thing to do would be to follow the unbrick tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840645
thanks for specifying the Ext4 problem...
can i get back to Ext3 by flashing any zip through cmw recovery?
Well rfs is the default file system format, not ext3. If you use this version of CWM then you can go to mounts and storage > format /cache, /system and /data back to rfs. However you will obviously now have no ROM on your phone so will still need to either restore a backup or flash a zip of a ROM that includes the entire /system folder, which is most, if not all. I've never tried this technique by the way, so no guarantees here.
Also try to restore only Nandroid backups made with the same version of CWM that you are using to avoid problems.

[Q] Failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)

I have a Samsung I987 Captivate. It was running SlimRom 4.2.2 and running fine. It started acting up by showing that the battery was dead. I plugged it into the charger and it immediately said it was half charged. I rebooted it and that s when it all went to hell. I got into clockworkmod and cleared dalvak and cache. At this point I rebooted but it still wasn't acting right. At this point I don't know what happened so I couldn't get into clockworkmod but I could get into download mode with a jig. I used Adam's I897UCKK4 Stock, Wipe, with options to install Bootloaders, Param, and Re-partition-One-Click.jar file which did it's thing and upon a reboot showed this on the screen and that is where it's at. The phone boots to the boot screen and then reboots. I have tryed searching on XDA and Google and haven't come up with a fix other than maybe a jtag at which point the phone isn't worth fixing.

I know that you aren't on ICS and I know that you didn't get the encryption unsuccessful issue that ICS had, but it sounds like your internal SD has died which is similar to what happens with the EU bug. So have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447303 and see if what others experienced after the EU bug isn't the same as what you're experiencing now.
Thank you m1batt1- That is similar to what I have and yes, your right about the ics. The thing that they are doing over on the thread going into cwm is something I can't do. The idea of swapping to the ext sdcard would be fine if I could figure out how to do it. I'll keep looking and trying.

No, actually I turned it in to AT&T for the rebate credit card. I haven't heard anything from them at this point. I got it to a point where it would boot up to the ATT screen. As stock as I could get it.

CWM Touch 6.0.3.0 error

Hello,
I recently was forced to due an AE swap of my device due to the mic failing on the hardware side. As I was going through the process of unlocking and rooting the new device the recovery flash seemed to error out and not work. After a couple flashes it finally stuck and everything eventually appears to be working after many headaches, however CWM is still acting up. Every time I am in recovery it says.
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/command
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
etc...
I have tried everything even to RUU back to full stock and re-do the process but I still have the error. Also when I go to install from SD Card it only sees some random folders that are actually on my internal storage. So even though I placed the SuperSU zip on my SD with my computer I cannot flash it as the recovery doesnt see it. Does anyone have any insight?
Have you tried fastboot erase cache (while in fastboot)
Just throwing it out there not sure if it will do any good.

Stuck on boot

Hi,
I'm running Cyanogenmod Nightlies on my rooted I9305, but for some reason the device is stuck at boot (Since I woke up, only booting until the samsung logo).
I wasn't flashing a rom, so I don't think Cyanogenmod has anything to do with this.
However, I did install "Hide My Root" not that long ago (I was trying to bypass the rooted-protection from my ISP to watch television; it did not work though).
I was able to boot in recovery (ClockWorkMod v6.0.4.5) and performed a wipe data and wipe cache, but problem remains.
I wanted to do a restore, but found out there wasn't a backup on my external SD card (sdcard1).
Installing a new nightly ends up with this error: set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed. E: Error in /storage/sdcard1/cm-11-20140122-NIGHTLY-i9305.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted.
I did install ODIN, so maybe this could be a way to solve this.
I wanted to check if there was a backup on my internal memory (sdcard), but then I saw I was getting all kind of errors:
When starting Recovery:
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
When trying to restore from internal memory (sdcard):
E: Can't mount /sdcard
What can I do to fix this problem, considering I'm not sure I still have a backup (I know, rookie mistake!)?

Rules we have to wait twenty four hours before replying to you .
So... anyone who knows how to fix this, or who can point me in the right direction? :fingers-crossed:
Possibly wiping cache in recovery will remove those errors shown in recovery but that will not resolve the bootloop. Have you tried a full wipe as there may be something corrupt in the data partition causing the bootloop
I see I forgot to mention it, but I already tried that (cache, dalvik and data). But to no avail.
When I tried to wipe dalvik cache, not much happened.
When wiping cache partition, I'm getting this error: Fomatting /cache | E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 | Cache wipe completed.
I also found the PIT file, and downloaded the stock ROM from Sammobile, but running ODIN failed.
Okay, seems like nobody knows the answer... guess I'll have to ship it to Samsung for repair.
Does anyone know a way to remove the "times I flashed a ROM"?
Triangle Away won't work, since I'm not able to boot properly...

Put in download mode then flash a stock rom over it...
@Raistlin1158: In the meantime I already tried to do that, but flashing (anything) with ODIN end up with a "FAIL".
Any clue what might be the problem?
Update your Odin, Also can you do a factory reset ?
@Raistlin1158: I've tried ODIN 3.07 and 3.09, both fail.
I am able to boot in recovery, and I performed a factory reset, but it didn't change anything.

[Q] Having some Big problems on my motorola razr i! please help.

Hey guys.
So i have this razr i with TWRP 2.8.0.0 recovery installed on my phone and my bootloader is unlocked. I have installed several diferent roms on it over time, and this time i tried to install the unofficial Cyanogenmod 11 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/razr-i/development/rom-unofficial-cyanogenmod-11-t2966855) but things went totally wrong when i formated the phone on recovery.
Here's what i did:
1- booted into recovery
2- went to the "wipe" tab
3- taped on "advanced wipe" and selected eveything (Dalvik cache/System/Cache/Data/Internal storage/Micro SDcard), then started formatting
4- after about an hour and a half it was still checking for md5... so i rebooted
5- when i rebooted i realized that everything was gone, including the rom files on the sdcard, so i passed the files from my pc again and tried to install but nothing happend.
6- now for unkown reasons all i see is:
Code:
E: Unable to mount '/data'
E: unable to recreate /data/media folder.
Updating partition details...
E: unable to mount '/data'
E: unable to mount internal storage.
E: unable to mount /data/media during GUI startup
FUll SElinux support is present.
E: unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps when trying to read settings file
E: unable to mount '/data'
MTP Enabled
So... My PC has the motorola drivers installed and i've also tried on mac (i have a Macbook pro with widows and mac os), but none of the recognize my phone so i can't use adb or anything that could help with this.
Does anyone know what to do? I just want to install stock jellybean again and then try the cm11 rom.

Yes i can, bootloader and recovery, but as i said my phone isn't recognized so adb sideload does not work.
I tried using mac because i read somewhere that you don't need drivers on there, but it didn't work either... unless i'm doing something wrong

I've experienced with similar situation getting no adb in TWRP. However, when I chose Advanced/Adb sideload, adb sideload did work for me.
PS: Maybe you can try install aother recovery.
Hey! Apparently, your phone has now all the partitions corrupt, because of that failed format. Have you tried installing a stock ROM through RSD Lite?
I once had a similar issue, solved it with a clean SBF flash.
Also, to install a new ROM, you should:
1.Boot in TWRP
2.Go to 'Settings'
3.Check 'Use rm -rf instead of formatting.'
Then, the wiping process wont take more than a couple of seconds, and should install ROM's without problems.
Hope you solve it, and sorry for my english if I made any mistakes.

Have u read the install instructions? The instructions stated that u needed to use the latest recoverys and u still use the 2.8.0.0 one.
The earlier versions have problems on some phones like the one u have now. Some do have the problem some don't. U can fix it by erasing the userdata through fastboot hopefully or by installing touchcwm (the earliest of recoverys for this device) and formatting it that way. Most of the time this fixes the problem.

You have to download one from your region. You can make it to the fastboot menu? And it doesn't detect the phone?
