Hi,
I have a moto x 2nd gen 32 gb. The available storage is about 24.7gb. But after having all my apps and music, the remaining phone storage should be around 16gb whereas its 10gb. Can anyone tell me what the issue might be?
Thanks for your time

Go to settings > storage. It will show you what is using your space.

Yeah, I know that. The amount of storage it shows that is being used is less more than what ACTUALLY is being used. Meaning I should have more free storage left that I currently have.

The above information is what I get under Settings>Storage. My SDcard and Internal storage are fine, "Additional Storage" is the issue. From googling around, this would be my emmc (internal SDcard/embedded mmc) but it's not showing.
I'm currently running CM7, coming off stock>Miui, but I had the same issue. I have flashed many roms over the past year, and I honestly couldn't tell you when this happened... I just recently noticed. I've googled around and haven't found what I'm looking for. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same exact problem. SD card works in other devices, but not my phone.
Nobody has a clue as to why I'm having this issue? I find it it odd that it's apparently just me...

The additional storage is your external SD card. How big is the card? It seems like most people are unable to get anything larger than a 16 gig card working.

Well that's obviously not it. If you go to settings / cyanogenmod settings / applications menu, is "Use Internal Storage" checked? I know this monkeys around with the way your storage is used, but I'm not entirely sure how. I'll poke around and see what I can come up with.

That just swaps what is recognised as the emmc SD and the main SD. It does nothing for me.

I did almost fullied my Internal Storage, and have only free 499MB remaining but I'm not able to install apps! It says memory is full and should delete or move to SD, how is it possible?
Some apps are less than 1MB and I can't even dowlonad them.

I did your write up on it and now I have less storage then I started with. All my apps are still on the phone itself. Though when I'm in safe strap there's no install option.

You may want to check where your images/videos are being stored. There's an option in the camera app to save to SD. Also, if you download alot, try purging your download folder. ALSO, if you're using TiB, make sure that your backup folder is moved to your SD, and set your backup location is set to that folder.
I've gotten that message, and it's annoying as hell.

I have about 10 pictures total. When you go into the used memory part my apps take up a little over a gig the other things take a total of about 100mb

I've been facing miscalculated space for a while now. I have also noticed it on numerous other devices. Fresh flashes help so its obvious apps are taking huge chunks of memory at times that nothing shows only being around a couple hundred megs but that makes a huge difference still. This one is topping the cake though. (This is approximated and rounded up order)I went from 1.2GB on internal SD and and had added about 1GB of things. I have since deleted at least 1GB of things. I currently only have a little over 200MB of free space. I've also moved to HellyBean JB4.2.1 which is where this issue seems at its worst, but is not limited to. I only have two apps on SD right now and have just recently flashed.

You most likely have copies of your files around. Check for folders 0, 1, 2, etc. They're most likely copies of each other and y ou only need the 0 folder (and storage). Just make sure of the files that are in each before deleting.

I actually do check folders every once and a while. Especially for space reasons so that's not it. Unless there is some secret hidden folder that's hidden in some sub folder with 1gb of copied files that the system doesn't show. The only other thing I can account for is titanium backup but I'll extra over round that to 100mb. Still a massive difference.

have you tried SD Maid by darken.
There is a free version and a donate/pro version on google play. I got the pro version and it is a handy tool for cleaning up both internal and external storage, as well as bloat and debris in datadata and other root folders.

Never heard of it. I use one click here and there and check through folders now and then. I can't wait for my 32GB card to arrive. Worth a shot though

Why? What do you want to do?
Just so use to have to storage locations that's all figured split it in half

It's probably possible. Not sure if it would be possible for the phone to read both partitions though.

I'm wondering if it already is. If there's pictures on my phone, and I need to reflash it, I would hope they would be saved to another partition so that I don't have to go through and back up all the stuff I want to keep.

There's a difference between the internal memory partition and the emmc. On my wife's NS4G it's the same. Anything on the emmc is not touched and the internal memory is flashed over.

So then there are 2 different storage points in the device, or the main storage is partitioned to be 2? If that's the case, then we should have access to all 32GB of storage, right? I'm pretty sure I'm wrong though.

According to pdadb.net the Sprint 32gb has 2gb of RAM and 29.7gb ROM. I bet around 4gb of that is for OS and Data and the remaining 25gb is accessible as storage.
I've got at least 16gb of music now on my 32gb SD and with backups, ROMs, and pictures have about 2-4gb available at anytime. My photos auto upload to Dropbox so I will probably get in that habit for other files.
I think with Google Play you can stream your cloud stored music to your phone. Does anyone know if there is a way to do that with the HTC Music player in Sense 5?

Probably not through the Music Player on Sense, but I use Google Play Music frequently. I've uploaded all of the music I have to it, and stream everything from there. Really the only stuff I have on my phone otherwise is pictures and a couple movies. And considering I have a 16GB card in my EVO 4G LTE, the additional space won't really worry me.
Hi
Can anyone help me explaining why.
I have in root explorer
Emulated and sdcard
If i click emulated there are 2 sdcards
So my question is. When i download something or backup something. Do they get duplicated? Cuz im worried i will be losing memory space. Thank you

There's only one real sdcard, the rest are just symlinks, like shortcuts on windows. They are provided to maintain compatibility with some older apps that expect to find the sdcard at the other locations. No additional storage space is being used.
