I have a factory shipped nexus 6 that i've been using since day one. I've never updated the firmware nor been promted to, mainly because I'm rooted and running custom roms. I'm currently running Pure 5.1.1
My question is... there is no straight upgrade from LYZ28J to MRA58K. Furthermore, I'm looking at sprints site and they dont list LYZ28J as their firmware, and in-fact its a t-mobile firmware. Is it displaying LYZ28J because of my rom? Do i have to upgrade from LYZ28J -> LYZ28K -> LYZ28M -> MRA58K ??

Over in the other forum, you didn't mention that you were rooted and running a custom ROM. You will never get an OTA installed while in that state. OTAs require a stock target device.
Also, this seems to solve the mystery of how you came to be running a T-Mobile build on Sprint. That obviously was a property of the custom ROM you installed. Sprint did not ship it that way.

No. You can't use any of the stock OTA updates on a modded phone.
Once you cross over into the world of custom ROMs, you will never get another automatic update from Google. The ROM developer you went with is responsible for incorporating updates from Google into an updated ROM. ( I see that the Pure Nexus ROM has been updated.)
And you are responsible for flashing that updated ROM manually.

Everything suddenly makes perfect sense.
If you want back to stock, you just download and flash it yourself... and if your doing that no reason not to just go straight to the latest.

Android 5.0 (Lollipop) Bootloader and KitKat Compatibility
Everyone wants Lollipop, however it is worth considering some of the possible consequences of upgrading via OTA update.
Bootloader:
A new Bootloader (BL) will almost certainly be included in the OTA update. It is also very likely no KitKat Kernel, stock or custom will be able to boot properly with the 5.0 BL. Perhaps the Kernel DEVs can find a workaround.
Root: (ETA: Unknown)
It may take some time to gain root access on Lolipop as on other devices this has required a custom Kernel. A custom kernel itself may require kernel sources to be released - something that has taken weeks / months in the past.
Xposed Framework:
Developer has said he will wait for CyanogenMod based on Lollipop before properly starting development of an ART version of Xposed. CM12 may take a few weeks to release. Expect to do without Xposed for at least a month, probably longer since root is also required (see above.)
Custom Recovery:
This has not been an issue before, but it is always possible a new Bootloader could break compatibility with existing Custom Recoveries. Obviously, you would not be able to restore a CWM / TWRP backup without a functional custom recovery; but even then, it is unlikely you will be able to boot your KitKat backup.
Custom ROMs:
This is another area that could be affected by a new Bootloader. It is unknown if existing custom ROMs will require new Kernels / system changes in order to work with the new BL - something that could take days, weeks or months.
Performance:
Currently the performance difference between KitKat and Lollipop is unknown. If the first release of Lollipop for Android One has performance issues, you may be unable to revert back to stock KitKat.Possible solution:
Wait for a flashable zip [NOT OTA Update zip] of Stock Android One Lollipop ROM - this would mean your Bootloader remains at it's current version and potentially allowing you to change 'back and forth' between Stock KitKat and Stock Lollipop. However, it is currently unknown if the newer BL is a requirement for Android 5.0 Kernels.
This is taken from the Moto G thread and all credits goes to @lost101.The sole motive of this is to create awareness about the new bootloader included in 5.0
Thanks For The Info @DC07 :highfive:

Nope. The bootloader was updated on my nexus 7 flo for the 4.4.2 OTA. Since this update is much bigger I think we'll have a bootloader update too.

doubts about lollipop arise
Hello. , Roms have been coming out lately and I understand that most are in beta , but this particular device was said to have marshmallow development back when I asked in October , but the gsm models have had marshmallow cm13 for a while now , and has recently got a second build , that had been more than enough time to patch the Roms for Verizon and sprint m7 users , is there anyone out there that marshmallow for this particular sprint model m7wls , m7spr please and thanks
Good luck. Most of our devs have moved on to newer devices. We got to Lollipop. I ain't complaining. lol

which ROM are you using???
marshmallow on sprint HTC one M7??
Hey I am running marshmallow now on my M7. I got the rom from http://www.vanir.co/word/
What you have to do is download the latest lolipop rom first - then when that rom is installed there is a ota for the marshmallow rom. Its cm based and works pretty good. I have rooted it and am running xposed. The root for this rom is cool because you just go to developer options and turn on root access. No need to install SU as a separate app. Also, the ota is great. This may be the best rom I have installed yet to date.
You can find the latest version of Marshmallow here, http://www.emccann.net/nuclearmistake/VanirAOSPNightlies/m7spr/

Is it still required to first install Lilipop ROM instead of just installing the Marshmallow ROM right off the bat? I'd prefer to go straight to Marshmallow as is done in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gyLF02rgFY
Their latest nightly will stand alone. Just install has you would any new rom. Be sure to use their gapps.

I've been rooted since KitKat (4.4), currently on Lollipop (5.0) and I believe my bootloader is still unlocked. How do I confirm this?
I'd like to upgrade it to Marshmallow 6.0/6.0.1, if that's possible. Any recommended path to the soft goodness of MM?
Of course.
Step 1: Don't

Well now because there are not official builds just yet, the ones uploaded were just test builds that apparently work smoothly but some apps don't work (android pay), if you manage to update and the official build comes out you will have to back up your data and wipe over and over again.
And you will also lose that sweet root permanently.
Hello,
I bought unlocked galaxy note 4 from best buy. model number is N910T2. this phone came with kitkat 4.4.4, i would like to update it to lollipop.
when i tried to do software update through the phone itself was telling me its up to date. kies3 also didn't give any updates.
does any one know how get this phone updated?
Thank you,
Damn shun
I believe that's a rent a center phone that was never updated and is stuck on 4.4.4. For those with the 910t, we can flash that from 6.0.1 and it works just fine but t3 units can't. I don't know about going to up'er firmwares but you could try Odin and flash 5.1.1 DOK for the tmobile 910t, let me know how that goes. If that doesn't work flash twrp recovery on 4.4.4 build from here
http://twrp.me/
Then go here and flash this rom and be good to go.

Good luck.

Cuz I have flashed 910t2 firmware on my 910t so I'm sure the reverse applies so do it in odin!
yeah i own a 910t2 from rent a center you can flash all the same firmware i have odin flashed every firmware since kit kat and tons of custom stuff just treat it as a normal tmo note 4. the only one thats different is the t3
Treat this phone as if it were an N910T. I bought it a few weeks ago from Best Buy, and so far I have successfully flashed DOK2 and EPE3 firmware (modems/bootloaders, as well as full firmware) with no issues using Odin 3.11.1. EPG2 flash failed the only time I tried it (not sure if incompatible or just a one-off).
ROMs I've ran so far are: FireKat (Nadia kernel required), CMRemix, Beanstalk, TEKXodus HYBRID N4 URv7.4R2, N5 Express 3.4D, and Maximum OvrDriVE 6.0.1 MM V3.2.
Kernels I've ran are: Nadia Nightly r7 [OG1], BeastMode 1.9.2 Rage [DOK2], BeastMode r56.8 Rage [PE3], Emotion nightly r23 RC1 [DOK2], Emotion Stable r26 RC1 [PE3], and BeastMode Stock SimplyRoot [DOK2]. All kernels I've tried have worked just fine except for the Emotion kernels - my phone would not deep sleep with either one, and I tried the 5.1.1 kernel on multiple ROMs with same result (which made me sad because I really want the DT2W feature..).
Currently on the TEKXodus ROM with the BeastMode Stock SimplyRoot kernel and it's running like a champ.

official support of the M7 stopped at android 5.0.2 for Sense version and 5.1 for GPE version.
You'll only find custom rom for Marshmallow and Nougat. I wouldn't recommend Marshmallow roms, they are unstable. Nougat roms work fine when used with the GPE firmware.
Don't forget that you shouldn't create 2 different threads for the same thing (read forum rules).

I hadn't had issues while running custom roms after 5 years.
I assume it's next to impossible to flash the GPE firmware if you're S-ON right?
