I have tried noobs installer but there is no ubuntu option. Anyone know of another way to do this?
try berryboot. its like noobs but you can add your own OS for bultibooting.
you can't boot osmc with berryboot. but yes you can make your own noobs with install files. read this post: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=111431 here you can find out how to make noobs to boot with system that you want to install. here are ubuntu files also: http://forum.xda-developers.com/raspberry-pi/development/ubuntumate-port-noobs-t3267928

is there any possible way to do this. obviously getting rid of webOS is a silly thing to think but i have installed arch on my touchpad but so badly want android as well.
i really wish webOS had a more developed app market
I dont see the problem in here?
I got webOS, cm7 alpha and archarm on my 32GB TP.
WebOS will definately get kicked if there is a safe way. cm7 will be exchanged with cm9 and i would prefer ubuntu with unity on the TP

Is there a how-to out there? I see a way to get a CLI Ubuntu to boot inside of WebOS and then LXDE X on top of that but I haven't see a way to boot in to linux natively. I have seen posts talking about Moboot being worked on to accommodate. Have I missed or just not looked hard enough? I'd like to get a native Linux installation going.
Edit: May have misread your post. If you are running a chroot jail that's cool. Just not something I'm really interested in. I'm with the OP. I'd prefer an actual triple boot from shutdown.
archlinux is not a chroot....
just look at the thread and install it.
you'll be running all 3 OSes in no time.
You just have to be able to read and follow directions.
that is all.
I asked because I had webos and arch running but when trying to run cm7 it just errored out. I'm obviously thinking there was some conflict with partitions?

just take a look at the threads here in this subforum. there is chroot ubuntu and a native ubuntu. im not running a chroot arch. its a native arch which i select at start in moboot.
and really really read the instructions carefully. its no howto for noobs with 10sec. patience.
@ sissons87. the cm7 installer is programmed to find a TP with just webos and then move the partitions. that is the problem i think.

Hello,
I couldn't post in the development section so i had to use this section. I'm having some problems with ther Linux app (Ubuntu Installer precisely). I downloaded the free version and installed the small ubuntu image. It worked more or less, but the terminal (the GUI one) didn't worked at all (it opens but I can't type on it). So, i removed the ubuntu filed, installed the paid version and downloaded the ubuntu 10.10 full version. Now ubuntu don't even boot and i keep getting this error: data.imagup .com/10/1150222241.png
Can anyone please help me make it run ? I'm on a rooted stock LC1 rom.
Hey,
This is in the wrong section I think it belongs in q and a.
But to respond to your problem, many users have not experienced and so cannot help you with.
Also, you may want to just reformat the hard drive with a different verison of linux.
Thanks

Hello all!
I am thinking about working on a ROM that includes a Debian/Ubuntu installed baked right into it!
The install would have the same functionality as the Core images I have created (i.e no GUI etc) and would be part of the ROM (not 100% how I will carry this out but im thinking installing it into the data partition).
The idea would then be everything would be preinstalled! including the terminal app, a custom launcher app and the vnc app (if you choose to install a GUI!) having it preinstalled and not in a image file would mean the size limitation would only be the size of the space which is why im not sure where it would be installed yet.
This ROM would be based off CM9 and would include extra features to improve the useablity of the linux install.
If this was to get a good response then I would like expand this to other devices but as the note is all I myself have you would be the first to try!
So the question is would you all be interested in such a rom? Please answer the poll and if you have any ideas or input reply to the thread
Ubuntu and Android
I would love it for sure.
This is what i had in mind:
-Create a custom boot loader that gives a choice to boot android or Ubuntu at start up.
press sound down during boot to load Ubuntu or touchscreen menu for example.
-Create/Edit a kernel to work with Ubuntu and Android.
Try not to just make it "work" try also making it battery friendly like Franco Kernel
You could also make the boot loader switch kernels between android and Ubuntu options during boot.
if Android use ...
if Ubuntu use...
-let both operating systems see a partition and create 2 hidden partitions in the root.
One for android, one for Ubuntu.
By making them share one partition you can do thinks like adding phone contacts to Ubuntu and creating bridges in between.
-Make an android and Ubuntu app.
The Android app should be built in the shutdown menu where it asks if you want to reboot, hot reboot or restart, it should add the option: "Restart in Ubuntu".
The Ubuntu app should do the same and should be built in the Ubuntu shutdown menu.
There should also be an Ubuntu app that can read the phone's Contacts in Ubuntu and send or receive text messages and call.
If you could do all this and create a great Ubuntu, Android Rom and Kernel...
Man, you're the king, i know you will.
This sounds awesome, I'd certainly be interested and would also be happy to beta test if needed.

mirror for images for the 16gb n7, install on any pc with fastboot http://d-h.st/Ik4
basic instructions
Code:
tar xaf n7-ubuntu-16gb.2012.10.26.tar.xz
# check sha sums if you want
fastboot erase boot
fastboot flash boot n7-ubuntu/16gb/boot.img
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot flash userdata n7-ubuntu/16gb/rootfs.img
fastboot reboot
the userdata is not a typo that is how the ubuntu installer does it.
you will lose all data including sdcard contents. so back it up or whatever.
WARNING: if you dont know what fastboot is ***stay the f--- away***

Credit to texasice for uploading the images and instructions. You'll need to find a program on windows that can extract .tar.xz files but after that you should be able to flash them using fastboot on windows. Oh and I'd recommend reading the other thread here.

Just get Wubi, it installs to a folder within windows. Then you have the choice for dualboot too.

*if it works*, used it before, sometimes it works sometimes you're left with a broken install.
I found the images anyways like 5 mins later and fastboot flashed em. Worked fine. Went back to regular android though. Brokeity broke broken lol.
Wasn't too bad with a mouse and kb but still not ready. Has a way to go.

Don't think I'm crazy, because I DID manage to do it. Everyone says that Wubi isn't available for an installation of 13.04, but really it is. Not sure if this is official, but here goes:
Download an Ubuntu ISO disk image, and extract the contents using an archive manager.
There should be a "wubi.exe" in the root of the disk image contents. Run the program, and configure regular Wubi settings as per normal. Everything should install well.
Once it's done, it'll say you should reboot now or you can reboot later. Your PC will automatically boot into Ubuntu once you reboot.
Ubuntu will install itself alongside Windows (it should actually just install in a folder called ''ubuntu'' on the root of your Windows hard drive) without any danger of ruining your precious data.
TL;DR: Extract wubi.exe from an Ubuntu 13.04 image.
Congratulations!
For some real fun, you should try installing it as a stand-alone OS on a different disk/partition and customize your own boot menu!
Either way, enjoy your Ubuntu experience...

I've tried that before, but I messed up my bootloader. I'd much rather use Wubi as it is safer, and easier to remove. Their are also some hacks to increase the Wubi disk size (even more than 30 GB). I think that newbies to Ubuntu would much prefer trying out Ubuntu with Wubi, so please refrain from your harsh sarcastic remarks. This thread, after all, is just to show that there is Wubi for Ubuntu 13.04 (and possibly for newer or upcoming versions).

I'm saddened that my comments were interpreted as being harsh and sarcastic. I was merely encouraging you to further broaden your technical horizons by installing Ubuntu utilizing a more advanced technique, which is [also] quite gratifying once you get it working. I'm a big fan of Ubuntu and have it installed on all of my machines for when I get the urge to tinker.
I know the pain of botching your bootloader, I've done that myself more times than I can remember over the years and yes, it definitely sucks! Now I use NeoSmart's EasyBCD to customize my boot menu and I haven't had any problems for a very long time.
if anyone has experienced the same thing with me? often when I shutdown ubuntu 13:04 .. seemed very long, in fact I've been waiting about 30 minutes .. but .. still can not ... I was forced to shut down leptop hard reset. I know it can cause damage to the hardisk
