I know... it's Apple Inc! KIND OF OFF TOPIC - Off-topic

I am new, my stats will tell you this... I have searched the forums (ALL I TRUST, it seems when you type 'apple' or 'iAnything' there's alot of spoofers!) and never found anything quite like it... I posted to the OFF-TOPIC 2 on FB but they just seem interested in liking things... Anyways, I came here since it's the one place I could trust to be the Rebels and I'm never going to post in "iPad Air 2 Rules"!!!
Only one thing is not covered below, in the VIDS I checked; the iTunes icon is a light purple fading to light blue in a gradient pattern... Mine is a Red icon with no gradient, nobody seems to ever cover whether the color indicated connection quality or if it was just a dummy light?
Otherwise... here it is!
## TLDR... I have an expensive iPad Air 2, stuck in recovery;
## IF you know Apple like the back of your hand, you could probably help!
He said, iPad Air 2 and I told him I don't work with apples... He thrust is at me still!
I hooked it up with ITunes and everything... Hate ITunes... Everything went as planned until halfway through the RESET, halfway through the apple progress bar; it stopped (ERROR 53)... Checked and retried all reported E53's (seriously vague on E53s) causes; repeatedly, to no avail... Then I tried another computer, same thing, but now I can't connect to it at all on any computers and it's stuck at this screen, no boot or recovery boot mode detection at all.
I HATED apple before... I REALLY HATE apple NOW...
Anyone else hate them less and know a workaround?
I've looked at OpeniBoot but don't know if there is a stock workaround that would force a firmware reload to avoid all the compiling and stuff? I've recently learned the sun4i kernel so I have an Idea of what that entails, don't want to go there for iOS...

STUCK HERE... I know it's apple, sorry it's not mine... YES, I warned him when I told him 'I DON'T WORK WITH APPLES' and now it's a $900USD paperweight!

NEVERMIND, I'll keep you updated but
I'm DL'ing Pangu Jailbreak 9.0.2 and the 13A452 Restore for iPad Air 2 firmware... We'll see how it goes! Hopefully I'm not the guy who overcomplicates things... seems like the right move! Anyways, with a little more research; it may have been rooted to begin with. I could've benefited from that info before if it was! If it works, I still get paid!
G2H

If pangu doesn't work put the device in DFU mode, NOT regular recovery, and then run a factory reset by manually downloading the IPSW and using shift restore to get iTunes to manually select it.
That should bypass any restore errors.

Excellent... I knew someone was out there!

Good; I just got done DL'ing the 1.8Gb restore .ipsw for 9.0.2 and was going to give that a try.... I'll keep it posted though!
Oh yeah, I've been in Ubuntu for the last 8-hours... Gotta boot into Windows now, wish me luck!

Well, if DFU is the 'recovery' mode without any active display (BLANK) then it failed legitimately five-times in a row. DL'ed Panqu 9 v1.1.0 and I'm ready to try some more but; I'm going to try disabling the firewall since I have a convoluted network. In the diagnostics it complained about no secure access to iTunes... which may be an error due to it not having any S/N!
I keep yelling the S/N at Siri, she's not listening; I think she knows about all my Androids~!

No,
blank screen does not necessarily mean DFU at all, it can still be recovery.
You need to have it hooked in windows to USB.
Hold power and home button for 10 seconds, then let go of the power button and hold home until you see the task bar of windows say "DFU Mode" this could take up to 20 seconds sometimes.
THEN you're in DFU mode. It's very easy to confuse the two.

What is 'W D t M D D'?

Yeah, I see what you mean... had to check the driver directly (Device Manager)
I've been to DFU and iBoot and Baseband back again. With and without firewall/antivirus and they all end in Error 53.
When I get a chance later, I'll do some uploading of pics and the like... seems there's almost none of this info out there; especially in the Windows markets.
But, it is starting to look bad... UPDATED: HERE ARE SOME POINTS OF INTEREST IN THE iTunes/iPad DIALOG.
I did some Spy++(64) on iTunes and got a lot of interesting info, it's a security issue.
I seem to have not had the trust of the iPad and gotten a little flipped on my permissions, to where; it needs my permission to continue booting. But it also needs to boot so I can login, the install/upgrade...
The transfers are repeated Send/Receive messages with a little info attached to each. some seem empty where they should've been 20bits each.
I'm only getting deeper from here on out... Next is A8X dev kit? Apple makes their own chips now and I can't pay two-hundred bucks to join their team.
KIDDING... If you think there's anything else, I'm a good listener; right now!

Ok,
I would try the following:
1 - Install iTunes again over the existing installation and try the restore again.
2 - try a different computer
Let me know. I have had one instance of iTunes fail only to have a re-installed version succeed.
P.S. - did you replace the screen or the home button?

Error 53 is related to touch ID error.
If it's an Itunes error ,you will need to change DNS to Google DNS(8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4).

I knew about the touch ID (hence asking about the screen and home button) but had no idea about the DNS - hope that works!

Going with Option #1

1. I will do option #1 immediately, I backed up the logs and was contemplating that already.
2. Option #2 is a great idea, I've tried it... I have gotten the same result 95% of the time. Even tried my neighbors Apple Inc. cord!
I will be downloading a new copy too, never know!

There may be hope yet...

As with orangekid, I did not know the DNS either... Could be that I'm just 'too set up for google' I hope.
I also believe my lack of knowledge may contribute, I did not unlock the device due to a lost password/Touch-ID issue. I have been reading lately that; if TID is not verified, it would act as a type of e-fuse for the personal data.
I did note however, this only protects personal data; not the restore function itself.
iTunes Screen output... in progress
DFU Mode at driver level...
SORRY FOR THE IMAGE SIZE, IT'S BEEN AGGRAVATING DEALING WITH PHOTOBUCKET...

Nope, I wish...

I wish it was that easy... I have not disassembled due to the fact that the screen is the first part to remove in dis-assembly... DNS is next, but first; I need to restart to try the iTunes install.

Alright.
Try reinstallation, then DNS, then let's see what's next.

Is it just me or is it like DFU is a great acronym for Don't, Funk, Up? Hell, no screen and no current device status... Might as well bust out the chalk and eraser here.
What to say now? I'm slapping together a video for the procedure accuracy. I think it's right... We'll see. Save

If you get stuck in DFU you can hold the power button until the device comes back up to recovery.

Still trying... NOT DEAD YET.
Well, I haven't progressed much...
I'm still processing all the raw .ipsw in .zip format!
Alot of cool stuff to learn here! Like it says; I'm a 'Wanderer of Code!' and I'm not one to shy away!
It's locked by the iCloud Verification Process... I need to verify it's connection to this account but; it's not booting to let me do this. I have the info, ECID, S/N, freshly DL'd 9.1 FIRMWARE/ROM for A1567 iPad Air 2, up-to-date iTunes and Windows 10! Don't know what I'm missing besides a backup, didn't get a chance... and an operating OS to verify the activation!
NEVER CLAIMED TO BE A GENIUS! (TLDR...)
"Does anyone know what is a good utility to interface Serial over USB with RS232 protocols?"
- I'm versed in Linux/Unix and Windows/DOS so; the OS is no matter unless you're going to say MacOS! Nothing will ever make me go back to MAC!
ONE MORE WONDER?
"Does anyone know a better way to PWN this POS? Am I overlooking the simple fact that; my shoes are untied? Sure seems like I've got my H.U.M.A. about something here!"

that's one reason I personally hate OSX and thing I do not like about iOS.
Why are you doing anything with a zip instead of IPSW? And did you try the DNS thing?

Ahhh; DNS... (DID NOT SUCCEED)

ZIP vs IPSW...
- As far as I can gather, ".ipsw" is just the extension for the Apple Firmware payload? As I understand it, ".zip" extensions are valid for unpackaging ".ipsw" packages. Also, from iTunes; the file is DL'd as an ".ipsw" which fails anyway... from "ipsw.me" the format is ".zip" but is subsequently switched to ".ipsw" in the instructions of 'majority'!
OUTCOME
- All failures, no matter the DL'd ".ipsw" or ".zip" nor will DL init type or DL source affect the ERROR 53 outcome!
- DNS was the same outcome as all others before...
"FRESH" WIN10 INSTALL... (RESTORED WINDOWS 10 HOME PREMIUM 'NON-DEV-TEST' & 'WIPE ALL FILES/SETTINGS')
- NOT SURE YET, just got done installing iTunes again and updating/restarting PC that CRapple Inc, requires to mesh with the Win10 framework! I have not installed LG Mobile Device drivers, I saw a FYI on the relationship between LG's "send_command" and iTunes protocol among others!
... restarting now ...

YAY! Finally got the NoDo update...

Really Microsoft?? The much awaited, much anticipated "NoDo update" and all we basically got was copy & paste?? Aside from that I don't see much difference in the performance of my phone. My phone is stock with minimal apps installed on it and it is still a piece of **** and missing some features that would've made me keep this phone. I was holding off getting rid of it to see what this NoDo update had in store and it was pretty much a waste imo. NoDo sucks, Windows Phone 7 sucks, good thing I still have all my Android phones to fall back on. I don't even think the recent news of Android possibly being ported to the HD7 is gonna keep me from not getting rid of this phone. Craigslist, here I come. Let's see what kind of trade I can get for it cuz I don't even want money for it.
P.S. Microsoft, the C&P ain't even that great!
I'll Give you a +1 regarding the NODO update being not as much as we would like it to...
But with regards to the OS itself I personally love WP7 having Come from android and having flashed hundreds of ROMs on my Hero
I think MS has done a brilliant Job with WP7 ( Yeah we still dont have a lot of Apps)
But It comes with the ones one would normally use in daily life
like Facebook, ebay, live messenger etc and not to mention the brilliant email system which lacks in android (For me the email part is the best I have seen) and the ability to pin to start my favourite apps or even websites.
I am sure the MANGO update will solve our woes and am seriously looking for a NOKIA Branded WP7 as that definitely be a killer phone.
As of now I am pretty happy with the phone as it serves my daily purpose.
But I Guess Its a Personal Choice

Exactly..Android enthusiast, other OS curious. I've had Windows phones in the past but didn't like them much. (T-Mobile Dash, the silver T-Mobile phone with the slide out keyboard-can't remember the name, the Touch Pro 2) The phones themselves were fine, especially my Touch Pro 2 that I regret selling to this day but Windows Mobile was never my cup of tea so I switched to Android when the G1 came out. I was curious about WP7 when it first came out which is why I bought the HD7 but Microsoft has not been able keep my curiosity with this new OS. It is boring to me. Once again the phone itself is dope but the OS isn't kicking it with me..it gets boring rather quickly. The reason most of my post recently are Android is because I have 5 Android phones and only one WP7 phone that I ain't liking much right now. I wouldn't consider myself a fandroid troll like you labeled me because I try other OS's and try to like them and don't live by Android completely. You think I like dishing out $400-500 for a phone just so I can come into these forums and talk **** about the OS on it?? I also own an iPhone 4, a Macbook Pro and all 4 generations of the iPod Touch which is something I'm sure you wouldn't hear an iOS enthusiast say. WP7 sucks IMO..that's my opinion and its not coming from an Android troll.

Use the wifi toggle method. I kept waiting and I forced it to update to nodo.
Toggle on airplane mode. Then turn on wifi. Plug into zune and let it update. Find the average time it takes to say no updates available. Then do it again and turn off wifi on your phone 1 or 2 seconds before it finishes searching for an update.
Took me about 15 tries or so but it finally worked!

I am sorry but I have to disagree with you and agree with the original poster, i have had this paper weight around since November to see what this update will do and its crap, nothing important changed.
You say great email? The HD2 email system was fifty times better for two main reason: Select All, and ability to view many email addresses on one place.
You praise that you can pin it to your home screen? hell any phone u can do that, and it will even tell u how many emails you got on the home screen.
But for a real email user who has several accounts to track with over 100 emails per day per account, WM7 version is crap, I have to go back to the home screen every time to access the diff account ( should be able to select which account I want to view when in email reader, basic feature, HD2 had it, why not HD7? this is a newer OS with lack of common features? makes no sense.
Then I have to tap and open the selector and then manually select any where from 30 to 100 emails to delete? manually? i mean comon windows 3.1 had select all, 15 years ago. Same for SMS, u cant select all to get rid of lots of emails.
Our color options of the live tiles are still designed for a 5th grader school girl.
The Hard ware is great, no doubt, typing is much better and the way you interact with the phone, but the OS is just bleak.
One of my biggest ? for Microsoft... In what century did man develop the rational that placing data in a table vs one verticle row makes more sense? I wanna say some time in BC?
when you open up my programs on you desk top, yes u can select to have them all lined up in a row and be long as hell, but u can also place them in tables so you fit more data on one screen since were dealing with a smaller screen. why do we not have that option here? every phone even before touch screens displays programs and data that way. ....???
Im sorry guys, ive said this before and will say it again. this phone has one great feature, you can spy on your friends via face book faster cuase your home tab will tell you when they are taking a dump.
other then that, is a great piece of hard ware, running a strip down windows3.1
and the more you look into the Nokia and Windows working on a phone together announcement will show you that MS realized that this phone flopped, and that they need to do something drastic now to get back in the game.

[APP] Time Tracker -- Need testers

Hey everyone,
I've always wanted a quick time tracking app that didn't have a bunch of data pushed in my face.
I found writing down on paper was easier than these complicated apps/software. With too much to deal with, select, set, and fill out, before long I've spent a minute or more just telling it what I was about to do. So I decided to try my first attempt at an app for my Xoom -- which then extended to my phone.
I need some testers to try it out and give me some feedback. I recently added support for Android 2.2+ on top of the native support for 3.0 so it can be used on your tablets and now your phones.
All feedback appreciated!

As you can see I set 'Time Tracker App' as my default subject while I was working on it over the last few days; so each entry is titled for quick reference, which you can then click to view and learn more: exact times, a real-time counter, notes, ways to manage the entry, etc.

hi i downloaded your time tracker on my xoom. looks pretty good but have not put in actual use. I was actually looking for an app to do my scheduling.
For example : event | SAT - SUN | breaking down on the timing and items for the event
does that make any sense to you ?
Hey thanks for trying it out and giving some feedback!
What did you have in mind?
I see an idea here for setting up specific entries with predefined start/end times and having the timer count down to the start time. But let me know what you had in mind... you tell me the steps you'd want to take and the outcome of those steps =)
ex.
Click "Make an Event" or "Event", fill out the Subject and Start/End Time, this event is set between those dates. The timer counts down to the event start time, then counts up from there for the length of the event... etc etc!
This way you could add events/tasks/jobs AHEAD of time, rather than when you're sitting there about to start! I've already got the function in the app to do future tasks/events, I just haven't made it public. So the more feedback you can give, the better I can build it out =)
Another thought is having Events act as a group, that you can add timers to the group and then refer back to the group "Weekend Party" to see how all your timers under that group broke down.
I'm rambling... you tell me!
Great concept.
Would you be so kind as to add a couple of screenshots so we know what to expect before downloading?

Thanks I appreciate it! I think it's a concept most people could really use -- at least I know I tried a handful of apps, but none of them did ANYTHING simply and actually ended up COMPLICATING things even further.
I put up some pics as requested! The Invoice function is a WIP where I plan on allowing you to add timers to build out invoices quick and easy. At the moment it's a data sheet for you to reference when you bill for the month, but with development going the way it has, that should be up and running relatively soon!

I am a contractor looking for a more robust time tracking app. I have tried several apps out there. I have not located a developer willing to work with me to get some real improvements to them.
There are several of them who have a great concept and template, just poorly implemented. The whole idea of having a tablet is to make my life easier, not to make me jump thru extra hoops and having to type in specific dates to sort out a weeks freaking work..
I will load it up on my xoom shortly and I am hoping it is a great concept and I am willing to spend the extra time to give you the input you desire
well, im testing this now since you offered it. one thing that got on my nerves was the registration/sign in. this would only be helpful if i can view all my tracks online as well, but i havent found where
the app itself works like charm and right now i didnt find anything that neees improvement. so, well done !
You're head is in the right direction -- the login is meant for keeping your Tracking per account. I'm putting together a web service where you can manage everything from your computer/laptop and not have to do anything but log in! No syncing required, it's all done for you.
So between your tablet, phone, and then computer, it could be pretty nice =) I can streamline the registration and make it a little nicer though! Any thoughts on what could make it better?

but by now i ust like this app...would pay some cents for using it.

Thanks for adding the screenshots. This app looks absolutely wonderful. I am going to feature this on XDA's front page in the coming days.
PS. Your use of the Fragments API is stellar.

I'll definitely take this into consideration! With 3g/wifi available nearly 100% of the time I'm using my devices, I began designing it to store the information off the device which allowed me to easily synchronization to your phone and soon a website. But for those that don't need this, it's a great idea that I'll surely look into! Thanks!

Thanks again for the feedback and if there's anything you need let me know!
other currencies might be coool
also the counter starts at 06:00:00 it shows the right time once you completed. but the start time is weird
I'm thinking it's going to be a matter of correcting the times for outside timezones. What time zone are you in?
If you PM me your username, I can place you under testing and make sure the fixes are working before taking it 100% live =) Thanks for the heads up!
UPDATE: Made a fix for the time being... I'll determine the TimeZone automatically in the future when signing up, but for testing purposes I've included a TimeZone selector under the Settings menu. This does not yet take into account for DST (Daylight Savings Time) although when I fix it up completely it will =) This also could allow someone traveling around the world to be in whatever TimeZone you please without losing your inputted data! Try it out! All your timers should adjust themselves when you change your Offset under Settings! I tested it with someone on the other coast of the US, now I just need someone across the world to try it! =)
Great news for people who are in different time zones.
The ability to put jobs and clients in sub folders is priceless to some....

I completely agree! Do you have any ideas of how you could see this implemented while keeping the streamlined and easy to use interface?
Perhaps a separate tab with 'Folders/Groups' where you can create a 'Folder/Group' and have the ability to set your timers to a specific 'Folder/Group'? That way you could organize your timers accordingly?
Tested the latest build, i can now select a time zone, but still, the counter starts with 06:00:00
weird :/

This is certainly interesting and something I've been using Memento to do - many things that particular application is used for can become viable applications / packages in their own right.
One question though - why not create a Google spreadsheet within the users account to track data? Admittedly, you will be hosting a fascinating collection of data (not that you would use it like that, although I confess that I would be tempted) and you would rapidly gain a great understanding of application usage amongst your user base (that's a valid thing to do and one many developers would be evnvious of).
I look forward to trying the app on my HD2 Nandroid CM7 and shall report back.
Good luck!
Thank you!
A Great and easy to use app!
Could be usefull for me too.
The design is very nice, but there are a few design bugs. Maybe you should use another set of icons. The menu icons for example seems to be white on white, which makes them hard to understand. When there is no focus on "LogOut" it is just a sheared grey square, only when there is a focus you can see that is shall be an open door.

I have got the same problem. But it is just the counter. When you complete the timer the time span is calculated correctly.
I also found a little bug with currency. If you just registered and do not change the currency settings (default was Euro at me) then there are dollars shown in the app. And when I changed the setting to euro, pound or yen the currency symbol is not shown correctly.
Countdown Timer
I have fixes in the works! The timer should now be fixed and count accordingly! Please let me know if this is not the case =)
Currency Bug
The currency bug is known and will be fixed within a few hours! You may see it all go away, then return, this is planned!
Thanks for all the feedback guys I appreciate it -- these are all great!
Still needed: a way to start and use the app without singing in, cuz i dont have internet sometimes at the tab and a customer

[Q] WhatsApp backup and restore

Hi guys,
Moving from Nokia Lumia 920 to Nokia Lumia 930. Neither has SD card. Phones are developer unlocked. I keep phone number and etc.
Is there any way to keep my message history?
PD: I know it's an old question. I just can't believe there is no solution yet. Are WhatsApp developer so useless they won't use native app backup feat?

Thank you! Will try that. The tricky thing is that Lumia 920/930 doesn't have SD card. So I need the ability to move the data somewhere else. Or do something else I don't know of, of course. :silly:
In WPPT ther is a window Isolated storage, just copy the whole main folder by clicking on app name and Get to save on hard drive. After all you can import folder into app.

Haven't used WPPT in ages. Will look into that. THANK YOU! (again)
Unfortunately, I fear this won't work. As far as I know, WhatsApp saves to *some* other directory, since it is able to find backups after the app was uninstalled. I had the same problem, but then my old phone died and I lost the messages anyways.. But at least 4 months ago, it didn't work this way. I just wanted to tell you this, don't rely on it.
I think it's because WhatsApp got the medialib photo full capability, to be able to write/read to storage before wp8.1. Maybe they used that to store the backup somewhere else.. on WP8 with SD card, they even put it on the sd card as far as I remember..
Has anyone had any luck with any other method? I would love to know how to backup Whatsapp messages / data from my Nokia 930.
Nope. Really frustrating.

Agreed. I guess you could just email them to yourself, but i hate that option and is a complete waste of time.
Also, be aware that you will loose any audio message and there is NO way to back that up.
Have you contacted them to ask them to enable cloud back up?
They don't bother to answer you anything more than a "currently you can't". "Talk to the hand" philosophy.
Apart from that. How is your windows phone experience?
I'm really satisfied. I love the user interface, it has all the feats I need, very stable, very sturdy devices (Lumia)... I don't picture me switching over some other existing platform.
I see you had a Lumia 930 yourself and a lot of Android devices. Even some BBs and iPhone. Any particular reason you ask?

I'm a smartphone addict! haha. Well, I was. I'm quite tired of Android. Even though devices change, get faster, have different materials... They always end up being the same... I want a new UI. So I had the L930 for a few days, had some really bad bugs like battery drain and got really hot. So I returned it, and got the LG G3, which is sitting on my desk. I pulled the plug again and got the L930 again due to pricing (a lot cheaper than my G3!, which has begun to lag... and for a near 500 euro phone, I can't stand that...)...
So ... That's my story! I love all smart phones, really, except the iPhone. I just really want fluidity, my apps (like for Google Music, Google Tasks, even though I don't mind switching task managers, LINE messenger and Whatsapp), and stability (like battery, and UI).
I think WP is a good bet! I just wish the 1520 cost less xD I would have purchased that one! But it costs 150-200 euros more than the 930! At least now I'll get more out of my Samsung tablet! haha. That way I have a tablet with all my "Android" stuff, and a phone that just... works
Hopefully this L930 won't come defective! From what I read, all I'd have to do is reset the phone after installing all the updates and then I'll be good to go! =D And this time instead of white, I got a green one! Woohoo!
Where do you host your contacts? And email? From outlook or gmail?
Hahaha.
I've tried Android but got tired: they always ended up lagging, crashing, etcetera. I never had to hard-reset my WP once I got them running. And I feel pretty comfortable with Windows. Even my Tablet is Surface (Pro).
I can't tell you much about the issue you experienced with the Lumia 930, I've still haven't switched my Lumia 920. But I never had that kind of experience by far. Were you running some app that could cause that? Battery for me lasts a approximately a day (WhatsApp, mails, news and calls, mostly). And definitively no overheating. Also the Lumia 930 in Spain should have at least Cyan updates... There's not much to update.
Regarding contacts, mail and calendar, I've always used Hotmail/Live/Outlook. And Live Folders/Sync/Mesh/SkyDrive/OneDrive. So, kinda "natural" for me since all gets in sync with WP. I have Gmail just as a secondary account. I did use Gmail in WP for some jobs (Gmail enterprise). Integration seemed to work, at least the basic stuff. But Exchange is Exchange...

[Win/Mac/Linux] One-Click Custom Rom installer

Hey guys, I'm looking for some testers for my Free-Droid application. It is available for Windows, Mac and Linux and is perfectly compatible with the Galaxy S5.
This software should be most useful to people new to custom rom installation. It takes from you the hassle of looking for TWRP and a Rom, it downloads everything for you (including magisk, microG and F-Droid) and does all the flashing on autopilot. For those users starting from scratch, it also helps setting up the drivers on windows machines.

Feel free to leave some feedback or suggestions for improvement.
@imska have already posted on your main thread. .....
As far as the "Odin" look. Well, Odin, is much easier to read. Seems that some things, are Under others. As if the display is 1 size, with more info to actually have space for. (e.g. In Expert- towards the bottom , " -install google sync" is actually, Under the words "Only change these setting if you really know what you are doing" ! So yes, need to clean up this Free-Droid a bit.
What is confusing a bit, is where to work and where to look. Terminal has all the major things running like Passwords, IS the phone connected, etc.
one more Issue... Info- Sprint Galaxy S5 (SM-G900P Sprint KTLEDV ); Currently, Running LineageOS 16.0 (build date 22Jul19) w/Magsik!
Terminal says I am running a custom Rom. The Free-Droid Windows says that it does not know how to deal with my phone....
So Do I take that it only works with "Stock" images?
Oh, On Github, I did not see the galaxy S5 code name KTLEDV in your approved list??? could that be the issue here? Just not added into the system?
Hopefully you can get this cleaned up. Willing to try test it out again.
Just give me a shout, when you have a newer build out....
Tanx
Thanks for testing!
It does not need a new build to fix device detection... I did not know of a SM-G900P variant of the S5, but I just added it to the codename lookup table. Now it should recognize your device as the kltedv and know how to deal with it. The tool finds LineageOS, RR and AEX for the kltedv
Unfortunately, there is no official release of TWRP for kltedv and therefore Free-Droid will not be able to install stuff if a user is still running stock rom. Which TWRP do you use and where can I find it?
About the terminal output:
The stuff that gets printed there is just logging. You can just ignore it. A terminal window does not even open on windows or mac. Entering sudo password in terminal is only relevant for linux users and could only be avoided by setting up udev rules...
The "running custom rom" detection is there for the tool to decide whether to look for a TWRP image or not. So in your case, the tool should work now. For other kltedv users running stock, I will need to add a TWRP image to my archive.
Window layout / text positioning:
I have no idea why things do not display like in my screenshots... Can I send you a .jar to test if the layout is better?

Hey there! Please, was not "*****ing nor Complaining" about your app. Had read this thread, and the Link to another. Only had 1 person say it worked. I am always on the lookout for just about anything, that makes me life a bit easier!
Was on me laptop, Toshiba P55 (15" 1080 screen, no touch, 4th gen i5, 16GB Ram, and 1TB SSD running upto date Ubuntu 18.04.02) and was not running any other programs ( I had seen that I would have to use Terminal for password. That's OK with me, like a bit of control. Had some error there, popped up twice, both times trying to run it. Before asking about password. Everything seemed OK from there.
But the layout was not as Pictured in Pic 3, in the OP.
Oh, me phone. Actually I am on Virgin Mobile, which is that same the Galaxy S5 from Sprint on same network. TRWP, currently on build 3.2.2, there is a newer build out, but this still works well, believe it came out back March or April of this year.
I just thought, that it needed a bit better layout, so others, do really get into a mess by missing a line or 2. That would stink!
IF you would like me to test something, I am "OK" with that. Just send through PM message.
I can see, how this really can be nice, am not sure where it looks for ROMs and such.

No hurt feelings. Can you please replace the Free-Droid.jar file in the "bin" folder of the application with this one and report back if the layout in the expert pane is still messy? And you could help me investigate the issues on startup if you click "Report bug" in the help pane of the application and send me the created zip with the log files.
Thanks

Hi,

Alright. I am a noob that has been reading the forums for a long minute. I have no idea what I am doing as far as flashing, rooting and customization goes... and I need to learn. So instead of using my S8+ I have decided to use my old beloved S5 as my test subject to try and understand what is what ect, ect, ect.
Is this a good place to start? I have a MacBook Pro I can use and/or a Lenovo with Windows 10 that I can use as well. I guess I am hoping that maybe I can get a Thumbs up from someone that this may be a good place to start.
I can do my best to report any thing back if it might help...
Thanks.

It depends on what you aim for... If you just would like to install lineageos on your S5 then you're welcome to use free-droid for that. If you would like to really understand what everything means and how things work, I think free-droid might not be the right starting point, because it is meant to hide all the (more or less) complicated stuff from the user and make the installation as easy and convenient as possible.
If you choose to use it and something does not work as expected, you're welcome to report back here.

If you are on windows then this is very likely a problem with drivers. Have you tried the "still not detecting" link below the instructions?
For those of you who also own a Sony device: Free-Droid is now compatible with Sony devices!
0.7.5 update should also fix an issue for some variants of the Galaxy S5 like the kltedv (SM-G900P)

S20FE (Snapdragon) (SM-G781B): Force remove GameOptimizationService howto -

For anyone that has been struggling to remove this damn app (com.samsung.android.game.gos), I found the solution (atleast for me on my S20FE (G781B). It goes without saying you WILL need root enabled on your device for this method!
Fair warning you do this at your own risk
Go to the Googleplay and install 'File Explorer (by jrummy) ', or download it from apkmirror. Then open up the app and go to root then system then priv-app - /system/priv-app
There will be a folder in there called 'GameOptimizationService', select the folder and then select delete.
Then via adb, check and remove the app again, you should get a 'failure' message meaning its already been removed so you will never see a toast popup error agaib (happy days) -
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.games.gos - see below for revissed instructions
Now as I find the theme app & service pointless I have gone and remove that also, but I will need to monitor is long term to see what side effect (if any) that will have. The upside is it removes is from the list in the settings app.
[update] Courtesy of @justin22 we now know you don't have to remove the app just use an alternative method to hide - 'pm hide com.samsung.android.games.gos' This will have the same effect, as in stop the app from running in the background which then stops the annoying popups.
Moved this to its own post to make it easier for people to find -

Great that you found a solution, too bad it has to be on a rooted phone.

I am using a galaxy Tab S4 with android 10. Not rooted. Root privileges caused me more hassle than benefits so I flashed the stock image again. I also went thru the painful and deep debloating process. I would love to send you my debloat list, if you'd like to review it.
If I remember correctly I left the 3 gos apps. Dunno why. Are you telling me that if I remove them, my GPU won't throttle anymore?
The only way I could make the GPU stop throtthling was with mtweaks. I set the clock speeds to max. But the temps went crazy. But hey, I got no major framedrops from 60 to 40-30 like I was having before.
I have recently bought a Tab S7 hoping that the frame drop thing was gone. I was wrong. Same game (Rules Of Survival), same maxed out settings (max quality, max resolution, max FPS, no shadows, no MSAA), same debloat (on the S7 I deleted the GOS stuff too but not the system folder you mentioned) and I was still experiencing frame drops. Not as bad as before but they were still there. And you know what?! Lowering the settings did not improve AT ALL the performance. I have already returned the S7 because it had some weird touchscreen problems.
I think I might stick with the S4 until some Chinese company won't come out with a nice and powerful android tablet. Lenovo has got the P11 PRO but it's less powerful that the S7 and it costs more LOL. But without all that Sammy crap it might perform better.
My OnePlus Nord can handle Rules Of Survival ways better than my Tab S4 and similarly to what the Tab S7 was doing.
Edit: back in the days when I rooted the S4 I was talking to a friend of mine who addressed me to that damn thing called DVFS that downclocks the GPU when it's under load causing those massive framedrops.
I remember that DVFS nonsense. games would perform wonderfully for about 10 seconds then turn to crap. it was a cheat for better benchmark scores if I recall the theories of the day.
tell me Samsung doesn't still use that ?

I don't play games on my phones, so I cant help you there I am afraid (I have a high end desktop PC for gaming).
I just didn't want the service running in the background, constantly complaining via toast notifications that some Samsung apps/services it wanted weren't running.
com.samsung.android.games.gos doesnt need to be deleted/removed
a simple
pm hide com.samsung.android.games.gos
kills the app without changing anything, besides the state of the package.
pm hide is great for stuff that ignores pm disable !!
its as if the package was removed.

Ah cool, thanks for that, I will add this to the OP.
This no makes me wonder how many other apps you could do this on, for example could we get away with this on com.samsung.android.kgclient for example without causing a softlock..?
I would test this, but cant untill twrp for this device get updated with external sdcard support. [update] - you can backup/restore to an external USB drive (I went and bought a USV-C to NVME enclosure and a 256GB SSD for this.
nah,I wouldnt touch that one (kgclient) ... another app I tried to hide was com.ims(service).something... but the system got sluggish, and I was glad that I could enable it again.
pm hide is like it was uninstalled, but the package remains...so be CAREFULL !!!!!!!!
I use automagic for my trial and errors.
I build a flow which consists of <disable/hide package> - <timer : 60sec> - <enable/unhide package>
its kind of a failsafe.if nothing happens.. GREAT and I stop the flow,if the system gets buggy but not rebooted, then after 60secs the package is active again.
also I add the <enable/unhide package> action to the autostart flow.. hoping that this would get executed even if the lockscreen is locked (not sure though about this one).
Later I add a label in titaniumbackup to the frozen apps,so I hope that I can restore (refreeze) frozen apps if I should EVER have to do a factory reset again.
Without TWRP my desire to freeze anymore packages is kinda low,as I always have to accept to do a factory reset if I disable the wrong package
Btw.. when there will be a TWRP (T870).. you dont have to do a factory reset when flashing the twrp package right ??

Same, I know @afaneh92, is working on getting ext. SD card support atm.
If its an updated version of twrp, you just flash from ODIN. You DO NOT have to touch the phone (eg doing factory reset and such).
thanks for the info !
I looked for a TWRP for SM-T870,but I didnt find anything (only S7+).
So there is a TWRP for T870,just without xSDsupport right now ?
If so where can I find it/OR is there a post where I can check for progress/or info (when its ) available ?
@justin22 I just had a check myself, there's no development of TWRP posted here for you.
from android 10 released devices onwards TWRP development is much harder. google has changed the way partitions are organised from what I've read. root is more involved now too. development on lots of Samsung devices has slowed right down. we need devs to own these devices I think to be motivated. we're looking at months of waiting especially with bootloader unlock in the US not being free for now.
@3mel : again thanks for the info !
When I got my S7,I couldnt shake the feeling that this will be my last Samsung device.Alone the ****ty warning screens every time I reboot, all the crap installed, and pointless apps/processes you cant get rid of without bricking the whole thing (kgclient(payment),...).
And now no TWRP...

Same, each time SS keep making it harder for use to root and flash custom recovery and roms to our devices.
You can flash boot animations to remove this.
We have TWRP, just no Ext SD card support atm. And without an S20FE the dev cant work on this :-(
do you have a tutorial /thread/link for boot ani flash &/or T870 TWRP (even without SDcard support) ? (I couldnt find ANY twrp for the T87xx(S7) series, only the T97xx (S7+)

I had a look and there was nothing on this site, other than the TWRP site there's no other place I'd trust if they said they had it. best thing might be to ask in the other tab 7 TWRP threads if they'd be compatible with SM-T870 or if they could made so.
if that's the newest sexy tab with the S-pen you've got, it should have a few users who feel the same way. also check whether it has a locked bootloader, that'll be a big factor if half the world's devs can't flash test builds.
TWRP development sounds like a real pig of an affair nowadays
TWRP and Android 10
Please note that this post is primary related to TWRP and the Pixel 3 and 4 and devices that may ship in the future that ship with Android 10 as their origin...

Just tried this but got a security exception thrown. A quick search explained that Google actually removed hide a while ago?
If anyone has an alternative that would be great. Disable doesn't work for game services as it restarts straight away.
