Coming from a Nexus 4 I had gotten used to the wireless charging dock and I am looking for a similar solution. I think I might resort to some sort of DIY solution if no products are available by December. I was thinking about working with something like this as a base stand and then running another metal bar in the cradle with a permanently affixed usb type c cord. Alternatively if they have a type c cable thin enough maybe I would use something like this and just put it in the rubber part. Although I was hoping someone else here might have some better ideas
Lastly, I am also holding out hope that someone will find an easy mod for adding a wireless charging adapter to the phone that doesn't require us to sacrifice corded charging or use a case...I really just wish Project Ara would get here already...
Just got my LG Nexus 5X the other day and had the same problem locating a suitable dock with the USB Type C. After some digging, found this product on the American ebay. Go to ebay.com and paste in Search "KiDiGi Omni Charger Cradle Desktop Dock for Smartphone with Type-C Charging Port" - apologies as XDA won't allow me to post hyperlinks yet as still considered a noob.... I believe this dock is also sold in Australia.
This is luckily shipped from outside the USA, China actually, and for free which is mightily handy. I purchased the item as a Guest using my British home address and used my PayPal a/c to purchase for £16.82 GBP (there was no currency charge or commission fee as far as I can see). Hey presto!

You beat me to it. Here it is
Will that dock rapid charge being that is only 2.4A? It looks very nice, but I'd also like to retain the rapid charging. I know, I know, first world problems!
Does the model compatibility matter? I feel like they'll just ship a general one out for all models
Hopefully one of you who ordered it can do a review with pictures

It has a USB plug on the end to power it - so to me that says it doesnt have a charging unit and requires you to use one of your own. It is simply a USB-C connector in a stand.
Looks nice though. I might get one depending on other similar types I can find.

I received this dock recently, and tested it with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mderezynski.checkr and it failed the test.
It draws too much energy from the PC, potentially damaging the USB interface (on the motherboard).

It's a passive device that doesn't draw power on it's own. The power draw you metered was what the phone was pulling based on it's supplied power. The USB ports on your machine will be fine and if any damage were to occur it would be to the phone (unlikely).

The dock is just a cable in essence, but it fails the usb-c specification, and according to Google engineer Benson Leung, cables like these should not be used at the risk of damaging the device it is plugged into, because it lacks the correct resistor.
The phone is safe as it regulates the current draw, but it's under the impression the source allows more draw than it's actually certified to produce.
As far as I know, the USB 2.0 ports on my computer weren't designed to allow 2.4 A of current draw. (The cable built into the dock however facilitates it.)
i just had my dock shipped, so I'll post a review with photos when I get it. Might be awhile, as it's shipping from China (and I'm looking forward to any reviews that you guys post).
I got a refund for this dock from Kidigi.

Why did you edit your post? S:
You said in your unedited post that it couldn't draw more than 0.5mA from a USB-A interface rated as such, yet I sit here and my dock is letting me draw 2.4A, yes it's quick charging, but it's drawing more than the PC wanted it to.

I decided not to go down that rabbit hole. You are incorrect in your post, but it's not my job to force knowledge down your throat.
For what it's worth, Everdock made me a custom adapter for a Cable Matters C-to-C cable, so I am using an Everdock with my Nexus 5X with the Google dual charger.
Remembered to snag a photo, pardon my messy desk and the dusty rubber part (the 5X camera is too good!):

Are the cables and chargers for all galaxy tabs the same? In other words will a charger and cable for a P1000 work with a US T-mobile Tab? If so then $4.50 is an awesome price for a car+home+usb cable and charger. Please let me know because I need to replace my lost charger and cable and I dont want to pay samsung $50 for a replacement.

Someone just posted a very negative review of that item on Amazon. It seems both chargers are regular 1 amp units and won't charge the Tab.
Not a terrible price for just the cable, but I'm not buying anything from a vendor that so terribly misidentifies their products.
I suspect Monoprice will have data cables for under $2 in a week or two.
I can see why the buyer is upset, but even at 1 amp, if the cable is correct, it should charge the Tab, just at a slower rate. I use bricks rated under 2 amps all the time. It just takes longer to charge. Afterall isn't the output from a standard Usb around.5 amps? With my Tmo Tab I can charge when connected to my PC.
I suspect it it doesn't work in is the cable.

I just bought this cable and charger so I hope you're right. Actually I'm pretty sure you are right because I have been charging my tab via my laptops usb port during this past week and it does charge, just way slower.

Seems like the item is no longer available either.
I did order one before that user posted his feedback. Its still not a bad price for a spare cable.
We will see. I did get a message saying it had been shipped should be here Monday or Tuesday.
Note that there are mainly 2 lengths for these generic cables, 80cm and 120cm.
We have the 120cm one for US$4.70 plus shipping in case anyone needs the extra length.

Usually they will still charge ; though the battery icon on the TAB will show a charging sign with a cross. (But it is very slow).
Likewise on a PC; it will also charge; but if u are using Tethering, the battery will discharge (but slowly too)
Using a 2A adaptor will definitely charge the TAB faster. And it is advisable to use it if you are into Wifi Tethering.
I bought this from Dealextreme SKU.48826; surprising it was able to provide the 2A rating to charge my TAB; very pleased with it.

I know there is an issue with charging a nexus 10 by a micro-usb cable since a battery is drained out faster than charging. Thus it has a pogo charging connect and supposed to be charged by a magnetic pogo cable. However, unfortunately the cable didn't come with Nexus 10 for some reason, and there have been no place to purchase it separately though. Here it is!!! it makes nexus 10 charged 40% faster than a usb cable. It will be available for sale on Amazon and ebay soon! I will provide you a link to buy it later.

Can you provide us with any information regarding what the pins do? Also, in what countries will it be available?
"soon" and "later" as in, some point today? Or near future (this week/early next)?
Also, I hope the price is pretty friendly Ideally, I'd love the price to be around $3 for just the cable itself, but I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Fyi, for safty sake a pogo cable itself has a circuit break chip installed even though an ac adapter could break a circuit. It is a magnetic pogo cable like an apple notebook pogo power cable. Since it is not like a mere usb cable, price couldnt be $3 or 5 something. we expect $19.99, apparently not over $20. Sorry, at this moment no comment on a pogo dock. Oh, the pogo cable will be up online probably on ebay early next week. I will provide you a link and international shipping available as well.
Waow, 20$ for a cable that should have been in the box in the first place, I think I'll pass.
@OP
>we expect $19.99, apparently not over $20.
Tsk tsk...they don't teach Sales 101 any more... Should've said that it retails in SK for $40, but because of the special respect you have for XDA members, you've managed to finagle a SPECIAL SUPER SALE PRICE of only $19.99. THAT'S MORE THAN 50% OFF!
When there is no reference price, highball, then come down.

I just purchased the OEM battery with charging dock from Samsung with a 50% off coupon posted on this forum. Cost just under $30 bucks and the charging cable is 2 amps for certain, I checked the current while charging my phone with it. It cannot be used to plug into a usb port on a pc.

Interesting. How do I check if my OEM cable has deteriorated for sure? Mine "feels" like it is getting slower for some reason.
so is there no true 2 amp cable? I'm not going to pay the extra money for the OEM one if its just going to deteriorate

I had trouble finding cables that I knew were reliable, so, I ended up fabricating my own. When purchasing new cables, they rarely mention what gauge wire they use. Most typical usb cables use 24/22ga. Some, like the oem use thicker gauge wire for the charge lines. The cables I made, easily handle 2 amps and thensome. I used the same wire that I use for my high powered LED light system which draws up to 6 amps without breaking a sweat. I know it is overkill, but I went with military-spec 18 gauge wire, stranded, silver tinned copper with teflon jacket. I bought new connectors, usb-a and micro-usb from overseas as I could not find them locally. After soldering, I filled each connector with an epoxy resin to eliminate all vibration and make the plug all one solid unit. I rarely actually use cables for data, so, I made them strictly for charging. Using only two wires also made is easier for me to use the thicker gauge. I bridged the data ports within the micro-usb plug. I have a non-samsung usb car charger that never charges some of my other phones at full rate unless the data ports are bridged. I made an inline adapter for the purpose that I used for a while. Making my own cables gave me the perfect opportunity to bridge them internally and eliminate the adapter. Certain phones need the data ports bridged or else they will think they are hooked up to a computer and limit charging to 700 milliamps, give or take. Hope you find the cable to suit your needs.....

There have been quite a few posts with links to cables that seem to work fine for others. I would be willing to sell some cables, if there was enough of a demand for them, however, to be honest I think there are many other viable, more inexpensive options. I could never sell them for what some of these other cables are going for that are mass produced. I put a lot of thought, time and work into these. The mil-spec wire alone that I use could buy you a few sets of other cables. I purchase the connectors in bulk and the first batches have been accounted for. Also, I am backed up doing so many other different mods at the moment that cables are at the bottom of the list. I'll try to post some pics soon. If, after that you decide you'd still like one, we can go from there.....
I bough an OEM samsung note 2 charger and a couple of days ago it stopped charging like it used it. It goes much much slower.
Just a heads up
You can find these at Wagreens usually around the register areas. They aren't the best looking but they charge my Note 2 and Nexus 7, which both require a 2A charge, very quickly. I can get from a 30% back to 100% in less than an hour on these bad boys.
Ive ordered several micro USB cords on Amazon and they either don't work at all or charge my phone very slowly. Even ones that have claimed to be OEM samsung, they finally show up and they're not. So far these are the only ones I have found that truly work with 2A chargers

Anyone have a good recommendation for a car charger for the Nexus 6? I drive a lot, and need to be able to give it a quick charge.
I'm open to cheap and expensive options, I just need a good quick charger.
Well, I used the Nexus wireless charger for my N5 in my car. (Some cars support USB natively. For those that don't, any 2A Auto-to-USB -- or even better, Auto with corded microUSB -- adapter will work.) The magnets keep the N5 locked in place, so it doesn't bounce off, and there were no cables to fiddle with when placing the phone on (or taking it off) the charger. True, you had to get a bit creative if you wanted it mounted, but that usually wasn't too difficult. Personally, the N5 with charger fit perfectly in my center console, so mounting issues weren't a concern.
We'll have to see whether or not the N6 will support the magnetic mount for wireless chargers at all, and if it does, how well does it stay in place? If it works as well as the N5, then the Nexus wireless charger would be my top recommendation for a car charger.
As is posted in another thread, there are Quick Charge 2.0 certified accessories available, or will be soon.
Here is the link:

More to come, and as soon people realize its a good thing more companies will make Quick Charge 2.0 compatible chargers, power banks, car chargers etc.

Very interested in this. Ironically I could care less about quick charge at home... I always plug my phone in when I'm driving, and I work out of town so it's a lot. I wonder if using quick charge daily for am hour or so each way would hurt the phone... my phone already gets pretty hot driving with streaming music and navigation/waze.

From what I hear it could mess with the battery. I only charge to full and only when I really need power I will charge it for a short time.

someone order one of these and report back It says in stock w/ free shipping.

Not for $30 With this battery, I can likely work all day and make it to the gym afterwards where I listen to music while working out and watch play movies/netflix while I finish up with cardio. My normal car charger will likely be fine for this.

That's actually the cheapest of the quick chargers I've found so far but yeah $30 is pushing it. I have found myself with a low charge on the OPO before where a quick charger would have been helpful. Instead I've had to use a NewTrent battery pack with it and the phone stuck in my man purse.
I use the Scosche USBC242M it's a dual port charger. Each port is 12 watts(2.4A). Its pretty fast, I believe the certified quick charge 2.0 ones are 15 watt ports.

Looks like it's a more flush fitment too, whereas the rest are much taller.
I've used some Pure-Gear cables before. They were not manufactured well at all. They were also mislabeled as to what type.
Remember everybody, if you use a 2A car charger, which now seem to be widely available, you also must use the proper cable or you won't get the full current.
This Mediabridge is my favorite charging cable:

I use a TechMatte one for all my devices. Pretty cool charger, does what it's supposed to in a timely manner.

Just got the incipio car charger. Used the promo code for some bucks off. Hope it works well.

For some reason when I tried to get the Incipio my order didn't go thru. I ended up getting the Powermod one for the same price after the Incipio coupon on Amazon.

Update - Sorry didnt notice the poster right before me posted the link from Amazon for same charger lol, this is just from the manufacturer site that has it for same price I guess.

I can vouch for the incipio car charger, acts very similarly to the turbo charger and definitely charges faster than any car charger I've personally used. Pricey, but the tradeoff is worth it
...
....
I ordered the neobits charger that was linked earlier. I like the idea of the new turbo style charger in the car. Price is deceptive because the cheapest shipping option is $14...

It works and everything but it isn't as flush mount as the design would seem to indicate. It sticks out a little which kind of annoys me. It is more minimal than any other car quick charger I have seen though so I guess it's ok.
Hey guys, just wanted to do a review on the TechMatte USB 3.1 Type-C to Micro USB Adapter! Since I don't have a standard USB to Type-C cable, I picked up a pack of two adapters. Though it's made of complete plastic, I feel it'll still be sturdy. It gets really snug with your micro USB cable and that's perfect, I've only been pulling buy the adapter when unplugging, don't want the connection between cable and adapter to become loose.

I give this product a 9/10! Only taking a point off because when I use it with my portable charger, if I use it one way, it'll say "Charging Rapidly", but if I flip it, it'll say "Charging".
Ask me any questions that you have!
I bought a pair of these on Amazon. I'd give it more like an 8/10. Reason being that the fit and finish of the assembly isn't perfect, at least on mine. They work fine, but they have a huge logo (companies need to market, I get it, but logos are often overkill) on each one.
I can't really complain, they do the job and they're cheap. Good simple way to get connected to your older cables, I guess.

Mine fit really nicely, you don't like that they put the company name on their product?
EDIT: TechMatte representative, can you say anything about http://www.amazon.com/review/R2BM6NKTIB9J8Z/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm
this seems to be crucial!

I have these but be careful, they don't follow USB C standards. So if you hook an adapter USB A connector to some old legacy port on a pc or wimpy charger, it may try to draw more power than the charger or port can handle and damage it (the port or adapter, not the phone)
A Google engineer has been handing all these knock off manufacturers their asses on Amazon about it.
Read Benson Leung's review of this adapter and other cables in the link below. Very interesting stuff.

IMO we want out of spec cables. How else will we hit anything above the max usb A spec of 2 A? Just need to make sure that the chargers support 3A.
That's fine as long as they warn you that it's out of spec, which of course they dont. Standards exist for a reason.
If I were them, Id sell it as a "feature" and warn folks to make sure they use a 2.4 amp+ charger and not a usb 1 or 2 port.

Even with 2.4A you still risk a brown out and meltdown... albeit less so than using a 1A charger. But the risk is still just as real.

Oh right, *5V/2.4A. I was confused since it's rated 18W, which would mean more than 3A at 5V. Didn't realize it could work at 7 or 12 volts.

EDIT: Benson tested this one and says it is out of spec and he was surprised since the design has a fixed cable. Back to the drawing board.
No - that one is fine. The issue is a badly designed cable not adhering to allowed USB specs with a plug end that isnt USB type-C, failing to specify a pullup where it only charges at a rate that USB type-A or micro USB can handle (i.e. 2.4A max). If it tricks your phone to think you are connected to a true 3A source, it can burn out the charging source by pulling out too many amps. It works fine if you have a true 3A charger (which I have yet to see in any USB type-A format).
If a cable has the correct pullup to legacy USB standards, that would be equivalent to a safety valve for your charging device and it wouldnt be forced/tricked to push 3A.
So, for 3A charging, you need a true USB type-C cable at both ends going to a 3A charger (or direct mount). For any charging source with USB type-A, your known max is according to the old USB standard of 2.1A in most cases, although there are some type-A 2.4A options out there too.

Here is the definition of the issue from Benson:

+Mike Kendall As long as the cable you are using is spec-compliant with respect to the resistor identifier, meaning the cable identifies as a "Default USB Power" type, any USB Type-A charger should be safe.
If your question is which charger is best meaning will get you the best charging speed from an A-C cable to your Nexus, it's a much harder to answer . It depends on the wattage output of the charger in question, and whether or not the phone is able to negotiate with the charger to get that highest wattage level.

I see that the user TechMatte Inc http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=6510467 is currently suspended. That probably explains why the threads that they were giving these away in are gone.
Due to that I will most likely return these to Amazon and wait until an updated model comes out that is compliant with the USB C spec.

Contact TechMatte through amazon directly... They are about to launch a new revision of these with full USB-C spec, and will send out replacements for the old ones free of charge. I just contacted them and all they needed was my shipping address to send out new ones.
It's a pity they messed up the first batch, but their customer service has really impressed me thus far.
