[REQUEST] XT1056 (Sprint) "No Audio Fix" OTA - Moto X Q&A

I recently received the OTA that was apparently released in June 2015, supposed to fix a no audio bug when using emergency call. I'm all about staying updated, but obviously can't take an OTA with a custom recovery (TWRP). Any chance somebody with more skill (and time) than me could convert the attached "flashable" .zip from the OTA into something usable? I would really appreciate it
I don't think such a small OTA would ruin root, but that's what backups are for, too...

Incredible OTA Update 1.65.605.2

Has anyone else received this update?
Not here.
Los Angeles, CA
lol figures once i get root an update starts rolling out, it probably enables wifi n like they released for the EVO today.
1.22.605.2 is the software version i have (rooted)
It adds 3G Mobile hotspot and fixes the signal issue, im in a pickle now though lol. cant remove superuser
Not exactly a pickle - just don't do the upgrade, wait for someone else to take the OTA download and make it root-safe.
where did you confirm this info as to what the update offers?
I guess i am confused, what would happen if we did the update with our rooted phones?
Nothing. Because with rooted phones you won't see the OTA Update...but if you were to manually upgrade without it being root proofed....you'd loose root.
Wait - weren't we already at 1.22.605.2? That's what rev I'm running, and I haven't taken an OTA since the first few days after launch.

Incredible OTA Update 1.65.605.2
I'm confused to, so if you are rooted, you won't see this update? or you will see it and if you do it, you lose root? I have the stock rom, which is what I thought disabled your OTA's is this an incorrect thinking?

The name of this post is Incredible OTA Update 1.65.605.2 so even though we are at 1.22.605.2 that is not 1.65.605.2
Thats the thing, i was rooted and did get the OTA update notifications, hit accept for the update by mistake. And the only reason why i confirmed that info is because i have it on my inc.
P.S sorry lol made a type in the title of the post, its 1.35.605.2
So if you updated as root, did you lose your Root? It is not guaranteed that you would loose it, just likely is all. I feel like they released it to break our Root, and nothing more... but maybe they fixed a few issues too... we have the same screen grounding issue the EVO had, and the recent update fixed theirs... but who knows...
EDIT: Posted an article to an outdated update. Oops...
so i assume you lost root?
Yes i did.
I haven't seen it yet. <-- OHIO
have you tried redoing root? did you loose recovery?
I havent tried redoing the root process again, but how is that going to work? isn't the root process based off of the original software? the baseband is different as well.
Haven't seen it yet either <-- Rhode Island
Didn't find any information on it either. Was their a "more info" link included with yours? as with other OTA updates. Changelog, etc.?
Better question would be, do you have a screen shot of your About Phone page (baseband, software version, etc.)
somebody who gets the update needs to upload the file so a dev can do something with it.

For those mofo root...

Anyone know if we'll be able to keep root one the lollipop ota comes out on the 10th? If not will a prerooted IMG become available? I do like lollipop but I like having WiFi tether and v4a is awesome. Anyone have an idea what will happen taking the ota while rooted.

If you take the OTA, it will replace your rooted image with one that does not have root, and you will lose it. It will also update your bootloader and likely patch whatever exploit that mofo uses, rendering it useless. You will be stuck with a rootless, locked down lollipop for the foreseeable future. Should you decide not to take the OTA, there is a chance that you will be able to flash a rooted lollipop image and get the best of both worlds. Easy choice in my opinion. Computerfreak (the guy who makes the awesome modded images in the development forum) has said that he will support a rooted lollipop image assuming that it is compatible with mofo.

You won't be able to get update with a modded device, it'll show up but not flash.

With kingeoot you will be able to get root but of course it will be temporary

I've read reports that you can use moforoot to flash an unmodified image and set the firmware status back to unmodified. That may allow you to take the OTA. Or it may not. Even if it doesn't, you should still be able to update it via PC and Motorola's update software. But again, why would you want to?
does this image have the kernel included. i thought that was the big difference between kitkat and lollipop is the kernel change. if we cannot overwrite the kernel than what kinds of lollipop image would we be getting? i may be completely misunderstanding this

What image are you referring to? If you're talking about the hypothetical image that I mentioned, I was talking about the stock KitKat image. Once you flash a stock, unrooted KitKat image using mofo, it removes the system modified status, which theoretically means you can then OTA to lollipop. But, as I mentioned before, there's a 99.9999% chance that this OTA will update the bootloader and patch the mofo exploit, which means you would lose mofo functionality permanently.
If you're referring to a hypothetical rooted lollipop image that we could flash with mofo, I'm fairly sure that the kernel resides in the system partition, which is the partition that mofo flashes, therefore we shouldn't have any issues flashing a new kernel.

Until the update is available, nobody knows anything for sure. This is all just speculation, as nobody has the update yet!
Most likely you won't be able to take the update without first reverting to the stock image. I did that when I got a screen replacement
Whether MOFO will work after the update, nobody knows. Someone will have to be the guinea pig.
Personally I would not attempt to install any OTA update unless you don't mind that you will likely lose root and may not be able to get it back.
Once the update is available, and someone is able to dump an image of it and modify it to be rooted, then we will be able to see if MOFO can still be used to flash it to the phone.

mofo WILL NOT work once the lollipop update is applied, and you will not be able to downgrade. The only chance is if you are able to update just the kernel(boot)(using fastboot) and system image(using mofo) from the stock image, and not the bootloader
so, this may be perposterously dumb, but how possible would flashing a boot.img be using Flashify? It made a stock backup just fine. Maybe it is a dumb question bc i dont think it would stick on reboot, but thought id ask.
edit: okay...somewhere along the way flashify stopped working. i do still have my backup, though.
edit 2: a titanium backup restore revealed version 1.8.4 is what i used that worked.

Noob needs help with XT1096 on Verizon network w/ TWRP and keeps getting OTA prompt

Since there are not too many stable ROMs available on the XT1096 that support CDMA (I am using Verizon's network). I decided I would unlock my bootloader, flash TWRP and root the stock firmware. Well, the past few days I guess I did not update my phone all the way before doing this since I just got it not even a week ago and keep getting prompts to install an OTA. This will obviously not work with TWRP and when I flashed TWRP I selected to modify the system so the stock firmware would not rewrite recovery on boot. This has become a complete pain in the ass for me. Accidently I selected to install the OTA since it is always in my notifications and when it happened it would obviously fail in TWRP but then it would boot back into the ROM and then power cycle back into TWRP. The only way to stop it was to do a factory reset which is not what I would like to do every time I accidently select to install this OTA. So my questions to you awesome people who know more about this device are. 1. is there a way I can enable the to option to where I will always have a stock recovery and then I can just fastboot boot into TWRP if needed? Or is there another way where I can just possibly stop this OTA all together even though the prompt already says it's downloaded and waiting for me to hit install. Like can I just go into rootexplorrer and delete or modify a few system files that'll stop the phone for looking for OTAs? I don't reallyl care about the OTA since it's obviously not 6.0 since VZW got boned on that one. Looks like it's just some security patches.
I'm sure this is probably a really stupid and simple question, so I apologize in advance. But thank you SO MUCH to anyone who decides to help me out. I will appreciate it GREATLY!!!

Try using your favorite applications manager for root and freeze MotorolaOTA. This will prevent the update from being downloaded and you won't get messages about installing the OTA update.

How can I OTA from root/custom recovery without a computer?

I have a cellphone that I really need the ability to get group messages and MMS on. I recently lost MMS when updates came in for hopefully Pie 9.0? But right now I still haven't accepted the July patch because of root and custom recovery.
I'm root and flashing capable but I'm in a living situation which will, no matter what, not allow me to get to a computer to do anything. Not 30 seconds. Not one quick boot.
I need the ability to update OTA all of the patches and Android updates and make my phone once again usable. Then if possible, to flash, from stock, through magisk and root again.
Just any way possible to get back to 100% stock to get OTA OR is there a way to install the OTA with apps or something?
Being without a computer won't do you any good, unfortunately.

Unless your a different person I've told you already you can't preform the ota until you go back to full stock unrooted and flash stock firmware which you need a computer to do. Im sorry for your living situation and I hope it gets better for you but your breaking forum rules by making multiple post about the same thing.

I got the Update 2.5ui may be

I just got the update msg and i am afraid to update because if i do i may lose the Root and ect ha?!
I'm pretty sure you don't have the OneUI 2.5 update. Maybe the OneUI 2.1 but definitely not the 2.5 one. Even the S10/Note10 don't have it yet and we're after them. Also if you're rooted you shouldn't receive OTA updates at all. Can you attach a screenshot so it's clearer what you got?
This is what i got. May be it is or some security + software update
That was last months update.
The August update is ETH1
Ohh!!! Ok i thought it's the new one ??* if i update this i will lost root and may be boot loop?
I still think that if you're rooted you shouldn't have received this though. You sure you're rooted? Check with this app please just in case: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck
Yes. Rooted and using all rooted apps in here
