MIUI For Nexus 6? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, does anyone know if it was issued a Rom or porting miui for Nexus 6? Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

I don't know why would anybody want Miui running in a Nexus XD.

I would actually give miui a shot. It worked magically on my HD2, I can only imagine how it is now

maybe, in your eyes. but we are all different people that have different expectations. anyways, people have been asking for miui since the end of last year, and some have even tried to port it. but, its not going to happen. why? because miui is on kitkat and the n6 has never ran kitkat or have the drivers for it.

I understand that, and know it to be true, however, it doesn't change the fact that MIUI IS, in general, one awesome OS, whether it's a fit for the N6 or not.

Cyanogenmod

Hey there,
is it possible to create Cyanogenmod for the Mi NOte Pro. You do have kernel sorces. Don´t you?
Would spend a little amount for it of course
I can also put some money towards a bounty to port Cyanogenmod on the device we will also need a root method and a custom recovery ported over. We need to get some devs interested.

Just got my hands on a Mi Note original (Snapdragon 801, not the 810) and was planning to hack around a bit by attempting to port the OnePlusOne Cyanogen ROM over to the Note.

I really don't know.. I'm imagining that some tweaks would be needed in the kernel, but that it should be pretty similar overall. I think the camera, touchscreen, and most of the peripheral hardware is the same, and it's just the processor that's different.
We do use different recovery images though.

MIUI is 64bit so it is likely that cyanogen must also be 64bit

Do NOT flash the Mi Note ROM to the MI Note Pro. It will not work and render your device suseless.
And you can't deodex the Mi Note Pro ROM by now. So not much hacking is possible now.

Even an unofficial port will be like a gulp of fresh air.
One more crazy thing I've noticed.. MIUI after reboot has only 2-2.2Gb of free RAM. For example, Nexus 6 after reboot has 1.8-2Gb free RAM. Are MIUI developers think, that if device has 4 gigs of RAM they can just waste it? About "Recent Apps" I'm even trying not to talk.. because it totally disgusting. For example, google chrome idea to "merge apps and tabs" incompatible and so on and so on.
P.S. I was also trying to agitate from my side some owners on russian 4pda community, but unfortunately, users looks happy "with official miui" and do not understand what & why I'm talking about.
With corresponding software this phone can make happy owners for years. That's why we need cyanogen.

Yea I noticed that too miui is ram hungry! We won't be getting far with CyanogenMod until xiaomi releases kernel sources.
Should I try to ask Xiaomi, when they do this?..

[Q] Port?

Every day when I login to the forums I see either another AOSP/CM rom or nothing new. Being a long time Nexus fanboy, I find it really odd that this device doesn't have any ports of third party UIs. I mean, the Nexus 5 has MIUI, FlymeOS, Ubuntu Touch, SailFish, and more. I always thought that was the coolest thing about Nexus devices, we always got the latest and greatest Android software and the Devs would port over so many good UIs because of how easy it was to port to a Nexus device.
Are there any devs working on any ports at all?
Do you as N6 users want to see more ports, even if it's not a daily driver but for the fun of trying something different for a change?
Yeah I'd love some love from miui and flume.

Always wanted to try the latest MIUI V6 which was merged with Lollipop earlier this year, and Flyme OS which hit the Nexus 5 after I left the device. Honestly I just like to mix it up a bit even if the experience is not as grand as stock.
most nexus modders use nexus devices not for porting, as porting generally brings instability, but for the stability of using aosp. every other device has to "port" aoap over, which reduces the stability. nexus devices dont have to port it over. if you are so interested in running a port, why dont you port something over. you will realize that it is by far not easy work, and you will spend all your free time on it, without ever getting paid for your work. enjoy

Interesting, I'm not a Dev, but I always thought it was easier to port to Nexus devices since they are always running stock and not locked down like most other devices.

port, to a device it doesnt belong on.. being a nexus has nothing to do with it. a nexus has an unlockable bootloader and is easy to root, thats it. drivers to get things running right on the n6 are not open source, they need to be written from scratch to get any os to work with our hardware and cpu.

no. drivers arent for nexus devices, they are for our specific hardware. thats why a nexus 6 can not run kitkat, drivers for a nexus 6 for kitkat do not exist(actually they do, but never were released by google).

Drivers were never brought over? Well that would be a problem. Cool, thanks for the feedback.
As @simms22 stated, parting correctly is very difficult from one device to another, regardless of which device you have. They generally need many dirty hacks and are seldom stable.
I think overall on nexus devices, interest in ports is waning, so there is little to encourage someone to do it.
As an idea of difficulty, the moto x pro, which is pretty similar to the nexus 6 still hasn't been ported, and they've been trying.

As far as I know there is no source for MIUI that isn't based off of Kitkat or lower. Since the Nexus 6 never received KitKat (officially), this could be a large obstacle for devs to overcome.
also the only MIUI roms that are based on lollipop are all 64 bit while we are a 32 bit device
Not to mention no real developer will touch MIUI.
oh lookie here.. its yet ANOTHER person asking for miui on the n6, since the first one in the end of 2013. and yet, still no miui.

Sweeet. Hell even the 6P already has an asop based ROM now. Thing's are gonna get good with this version of Android.
Well that's good news alright it'll just take a while theres not even gapps yet.
I'd totally take an AOSP rom thought to tide over the wait.

Really? is surprising, 5 months ago we got a Developer Preview, they can start developing since that day, not now, it does not seem so strange people asking for that.

you got this wrong!! the source was released now. since that they can start the developing. the developer Preview was just to test nougat and for the developers to adjust their apps to the new android version.

LOL j/k welcome to android my friend and if you look back at the history off cm you will see the numbering system matches android numbering system in its own way. So yes CM14 is 7.0
I hope vulkan api will be included.
Well the branch is already up for 14 days. There are also no changes yet so we have to be patient, it still might take a few weeks until we see a nightly. I hope Android will one day be unified for all devices, so that we have a unified interface for all the hardware... This would make developing so much easier. Imagine we you just install a ROM like a OS to your computer and like 95% of the hardware is already ready to go.

Do you expect there to be a thriving rom scene for the Note 9?

Current S8 user thinking about upgrading to an Exynos Note 9. Having looked at the Note 8 forums it looks like there is very limited development going on there. Do you guys expect things to improve for the new note? I have no interest in android unless there is a decent custom rom I can run!
I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. If you have no interest in Android unless you can ROM it, you must love iOS and all of it's customization lol.

Development is occurring less for these types of device for many reasons, but mainly locked bootloader's, price, not really a great need for root anymore. Of course there are folks that need root and use it.
I would love to see a stripped down TouchWiz ROM for the US version that looks like AOSP as much as possible. It'll never happen though sadly.
Exynos yes a few probably
Snapdragon no, nothing, nada

"I have no interest in Android unless I can ROM it". What choices does that leave in a phone OS? iOS? You can't do anything at all to iOS, which was kind of my point. Android even without flashing ROM's is extremely customizible. Now, if he said I have no interest in the Note 9 unless there are ROM's for it, then, I'd understand. Android, though? That's like the vast majority of the worlds smartphones. You basically have two choices in phone OS.
You know what? I apologize. I guess I didn't read the last sentence in his statement... I thought you were merely inferring his attitude until I went back and reread.
Anyway, carry on...

It was a poor choice of words, instead of saying I have no interest in android if there are no custom roms, I meant to say I have no interest in buying a new phone if I cant custom rom it. Getting an ios device is not even an option .

I was suprised to see the rom forum was kind of barren compared to when I had my Note 4 and other devices. But that was before I had the phone in hand. Now that I see how easy it is to do most things that used to be much easier with root, it isn't too shocking that it's a little dead over there.
The phone has treble support
you can even get android P on it
