New Galaxy S6 Questions - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

Probably switching to AT&T from Verizon this week and I'll probably be getting the S6.
I'd love to root it but I'd also like to keep Samsung Pay and the fingerprint reader intact if possible.
From what I understand this is only possible if the phone is still on 5.0.2, is that correct?
If so, does anyone know if I'll still get a new in the box phone with 5.0.2 if I walk into AT&T today?
Just want to make sure I don't run into the same mistake with my last phone of getting it too far into its life cycle and not being able to unlock/root.
Thanks!

More specifically you will need to walk out with a device that is on a software version no later than oce2. Of3 and of4 are both unroot able yet both are still 5.0.2. As the of3 update came out close to 5 or 6 months ago you'd be hard pressed to find and s6 on a version before of3 or of4 that hasn't already been sold. Long story short you most likely will not be able to root the phone at all. If you want root you need to buy a g920f or g920i stay away from the g920a. And as for Samsung pay your pretty much out of luck.. Samsung pay requires android 5.1.1 every version of the s6 has anti root feature in the 5.1.1 update so in order to root you'll need a custom kernel will means you will have to trip knox to root... So basically you can't have what you want on the s6 because of knox is tripped Samsung pay will not work.. Your going to have to compromise or your going to have a different phone.. I personally have the g920a from att and I cannot reccomend it at all.. I am still stuck on 5.0.2 just so I can keep riot while everyone else is up to date and running rxposed.. There is little hope for this phone to achieve root on 5.1.1 as it would require an unlocked bootloader which is not something that will conceivably happen.

Really appreciate the info. Probably going to get the S6 and see what happens. I went over a year without root on my M7 so I think I'll survive. If I can't stand it I'll have a couple weeks to exchange it. Sigh, stupid luck downs.

So I ended up with a G920A with OF4. I have not applied any OS updates at this point but it seems I am out of luck for rooting, is that correct? If so I think I can live with it. Between mobile hotspot being included now and a combination of Tasker and other apps I think I'll survive. I just have to make sure I'm good with TouchWiz.

[Q] Cant root my 900A S5, what other options do I have to get a rooted phone?

AT&T force my S5 900A to update to Lollipop before I had a chance to Root it. It appears there is no available option for rooting a Lollipop 900A (I tried Odin and Towelroot). What other options are there to attain a rooted S5? Is there a way to prevent AT&T from updating a phone and thus removing the root?
Can I buy a rooted S5 900F off Ebay and it work on my network?
Can I buy an earlier version rooted S5 900A off Ebay and prevent AT&T from updating it and losing its root?
Can I upgrade to a rooted S6, although I am not sure if these phones have been rooted yet?
What is the newest Samsung Note that has been rooted I could buy?
I guess all this depends upon preventing AT&T from updating your phone and losing the root, how do I do this?
Thanks for any help!

I periodically check the forums with the same question. Has it been determined that it will be PURELY IMPOSSIBLE to root an S5 that got bumped to OC4? Am I wasting my time even continuing to check? Just hard for me to believe Sammy finally defeated all the hackers with no options left........
Which is why I switched to HTC and *love* it. Leaving for the same reason I left Apple ages ago. When manufacturers get greedy and lock their loyal users out of doing ANYTHING, they go bye bye in my book. I also had a nice Samsung Gear S watch that was quickly returned once determined it would work with Sammy and only Sammy. Headed to the new universal Android Moto360 and can't wait. Hope the Koreans are listening to all this while their market share slowly dwindles. It's a shame, too, as they make some really quality products.

Yes, send Samsung/ATT to Hell. No Way I purchase another one. They want to play like they own your phone. So let them own it by not purchasing another one.
The only reason I have an 900A is becouse was a gift. But I was lucky that was not 5.x crap.

Did your accessories also transfer over?

Do you think the T-Mobile Note 5 will be able to be rooted?

I'm currently using the S6 Edge on T-Mo and haven't upgraded to 5.1.1 because I've read here that people have had issues with their device after rooting on 5.1.1. I did the Ping Pong method to root my S6 Edge, but apparently the loophole was patched in 5.1.1, which is why things got a little screwy? Pardon my noobness if any of my terminology is off...
Anyway, I heavily rely on Unlimited Tethering and it's pretty much the only reason I root these days.
With 5.1.1 patched, is there even a possibility of rooting the T-Mo variant of the Note 5 anytime soon? Or should I not even pre-order?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
I am still on KK 4.4.4 and do you think I should stay or upgrade?
I luv my unlimited tethering. I am surfing on my Windows laptop unlimited.
I have no inside knowledge. Just years of running the rooting gauntlet with the phones listed in my sig. Odds are, yes, the Note 5 will be rooted. Samsung is arguably the most watched and targeted handset maker by developers. It's a prize that motivates. But there is no guarantee, and lollipop has shown some resistance to rooting.
Chainfire will have one soon
Even if CF Root breaks Samsung pay and trips Knox, I'm okay with it because I'm not a believer in consolidating all my card(s) into a device.
Even though there's supposed to be a different number that generates every time, my number is stored somewhere by someone else other than my credit card company and myself. I'm probably being naive, but I'm still too scared, lol.
Anyway, back on topic, if there's a root, I'll most definitely get the Note 5. If not, I have to consider either Moto X Pure Edition or bum an invite off of my friend with the One Plus Two.
Fingers crossed for Note 5 root!

Stupid questions regarding getting a new Samsung Galaxy S5 G900A (AT&T)

If I were to right now get the Samsung Galaxy S5 AT&T ( http://www.att.com/cellphones/samsung/galaxy-s-5.html#sku=sku7120234 ), is it known whether it will have a rootable version or not?
If I am unable to root the phone and keep it rooted, I'll most likely have to go with another phone. (Which would be a shame.)
I've read up some on the situation, and it seems as long as it is version 4.4.4 I would be fine.
And I would be able to update while keeping root if I follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g900aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3149146
So, I suppose the real question is how sure is it that you'll get the 4.4.4 (rootable) version of android?
And are there any downsides to doing so right now?
(I have a rooted phone now: An HTC First. The failed "Facebook" phone. It was very easy to root and receives no updates, so it's been hassle free, but it'd be nice to finally update.)
I'm not sure if you are buying direct from AT&T or not, but I think it's been confirmed that they have only been selling S5s with 5.0 on them out of the box.
Root may come eventually for those who have factory Lollipop images on their S5s, but I wouldn't count on it. Unfortunately, the window for an easy root on a brand new AT&T branded S5 has closed.
How much are you willing to spend? I'd consider selling my almost mint condition rooted 5.0 GS5 for the right price. I just got it in the Spring and it's in fantastic shape.

Well, I was going with this phone because it is 'free' with the existing contract.... Looking at the other 'free' options now.

If root is a deal breaker I suggest not getting the GS5 unless you are positive that you can get one with KitKat out of the box.
That being said...I have an unrootable one on AT&T that I got free for extending my contract; and I found that their 5.0 build for this phone is probably the most stable phone I've ever had on AT&T ever. Besides the battery and back cover nag alerts and not being able to save Amazon video to the SD card...I have no other complaints re: not having root. But even when I had devices that were rooted...they were stock-rooted. As always...YMMV.

Just need a yes or no, please..

I just want a quick answer as I keep finding people claiming to be able to root t-mobile s6 sm-g920t ver. 5.1.1. I cannot find anything to support this without a lot of headaches, much less being able to find and download needed files for root.
Can I successfully root this Samsung Galaxy s6 SM-G920t?
Or should I go back to my HTC phone?
Thanks,
chevy383surfing
FYI: I got this phone yesterday as a promotional and did not have to pay for it. I have always strayed away from Samsung because of all the hassles involved in rooting any Samsung device over the course of the last 10 years or maybe a little less. As soon as I signed in to my Google account the damned phone automatically updated. "Thanks for the options Samsung!!! I didn't have any choice but to go through with the update.
Yes, you can root it easily but you will void your warranty by tripping Knox.

I am not worried about warranties. I root all of my android devices. I pay the phone companies a lot of money every month. I usually buy all my devices straight out too. So Samsung can do what they need to, as long as they stay out of my way, I will stay out of their way. Anyway, my other main concern is all the calling problems and the finger print phone lock. Will these break regardless?
Thanks for the fast reply, too!

The only downside to rooting the latest firmware versions is you cannot use Samsung Pay with Knox tripped. Other than that, I haven't experienced calling problems or any issues with the fingerprint reader. Haven't heard of call problems as a result of rooting but the fingerprint sensor not working was a result of using the engineering bootloader (to maintain Knox warranty status) on a previous firmware release.

Honestly I searched here first then went to multiple root forums, and I'm seeing the same thing continuously. That there is no ROOT available for my Baseband Version that does not trip KNOX. Its getting pretty aggravating as I have seen multiple people needing this ROOT. I know a lot more have started to appear just in the past two weeks, or so. I am to the point now that I do not care if it trips KNOX! I do not use Samsung Pay to be honest, and this is just my spare phone anyways! All I care about, is that the phones day by day operations are still accessible and functioning. Any ROOT available at this time, or any info on a possible root date would be nice. If you do know of a ROOT available that will trip KNOX, however you are sure there will be a possible non tripping method released soon Please inform me, if I ever do plan on selling the device it is easier to sell with all functions available!
Thank you much in advance for any info towards this!
Phone Info:
Brand: Samsung
Android Version: 6.0.1
Model: SM-G925A
Baseband Version: G925AUCS4CPF1
Sorry to inform but there is no root and almost certainly won't be in the future

There is no tripping OR non-tripping method.
Yeah it just won't happen, I'd suggest going with another carrier. I believe other carriers have root for this phone or even going with the international version of the device. Honestly the days of root on an AT&T Samsung device are just over from what I've seen these last couple of years
Well this really makes my phone useless now, I just got stuck with 6.01 on an insurance replacement and now all my functions are gone because of no root.
Can anyone recommend another phone as an equal to the Galaxy
