I wrote down what are the services for, so if you use Google Drive or Google Play for example, you can choose what to keep. After disableing all of the above, I got 131 MB free ram. It can happen that after boot an error message comes app saying that Google Play Services stopped working. Just click ok, it will restart immediately. If somethings not working for you, just re-enable the services and restart the phone.
Anonymus, and User Data logging should be removed too (or just disable the services) because those apps are only sends information to Sony

When I have turned ot off I can't use Google Play Games, after turned it back Games work again so I guess it is important too, to use Play Games.
How can the service 'wearablecontrolservice' in Google Play Services still show up and run in amplify after I have disabled it with DisabledService App?
Im not using any wear device. I have also disabled other 'wearable' services.
Very nice thread
Also useful for battery saver

What services and apps can be disabled. But please with a description what people are disabling, so they can decided if they need it or not.
So far i disabled:
Anonymous Usage Stats (self explanatory, not on cost of my battery and data plan)
Auto upload photo (no idea what it is, but if i want to upload a photo i do it myself)
Screen Mirror (brings your screen on a TV, dont have a compatible one, don't need it)
extension for youtube, wikipedia (don't know who is extended here, but if i need those i use my web browser)
extension for google lyrics search (don't care for that)
Exchange Services (suppose it has to do with Microsoft Exchange, which i don't use..)
Face Unlock (very useful feature, people just need a photo of you to unlock your phone, disabled)
Facebook (i'll do my little facebooking with the browser, thanks)
Movies / Devices (got an alternate video player anyway)
gmail (normal mail client is enough for me)
google partner setup (i'm not going to be a google partner)
Google Play Books, Movies, Music (not going to use those)
Google+ (don't need it)
Japanese keyboard layout and skins (not my language so i don't need it, skins won't work for the non japanese keyboard)
MirrorLink Service (Connects your phone to a car, don't need that)
Music unlimited (no idea, doesn't sound important)
News & weather (got my own apps for that)
location based wi-fi (i use wifi rarely and am able to manage that myself, don't allow my phone to locate me all the time anyway)
photo analyzer service (my photos don't need analyzing)
picasa uploader (dont use that service)
Pico TTS (i use only google TTS)
PlayMemories Online (not needed)
SensMe slidshow (sorry its a phone, not a digital photo frame)
Smar Connect (starts stuff if you connect stuff automaticly, doesn't fit my using habits)
Sony car (dont need that)
Sony select (no idea)
Support (thats what forums are for )
Talk (google IM service, don't need it)
Talkback (talks to you about what going on with your phone while using it, my eyes are still fine, so i don't need this practical feature)
TV-App Starter (no TV here that supports it anyway)
Video Studio (sorry, editing videos on a smartphone? no)
visualization (doesn't sound very useful)
weather widget (got a different one)
Xperia Appshare, Calendar sync, FB setup, Friendsmusic, Music Likes, Proxy, Share, Social Engine +photos +sharing, twitter (since i don't use Twitter, Facebook and whatever as native up i don't need any Xperia apps that can work with it)
whatsapp (dont like always on apps, just wastes my battery)
McAfee (i don't think Android need an antivirus program)
com.sonyericson.unplugchargerreminder (removes the annoying message after you removed your charger from the phone)

Disable most in the Settings > Apps section. Tedious, but worth it.
For apps that can't be disabled this way, you'll need root and Titanium Backup to freeze them. Always freeze, never uninstall until your ROM is stable after a few reboots.
You can disable all themes and wallpaper picker
After uninstalling these following programs, i noticed a boost both in battery, ram and performance. These apps were safely disabled using adb and they won't affect the functionality of the software (aka no random crashes or error messages):
Gmail
Gdrive
Chrome (i recommend using Brave)
Duo
Google calendar and contacts sync (useless to me. Can be disabled with adb safely but i prefer by system settings)
Google movies
Google music
Google partner setup
Google one time
Google TTS
Facebook-related apps (there are 3 system apps that are for facebook)
Huawei share (watch out which one you uninstall. Since i don't have any other huawei products or a wireless printer, i uninstalled it)
Digital balance
Hivoice
Hisearch
Appgallery
Huawei wallet
Talkback (known as android accesibility suite)
Google backup transport(disable it via settings, people say that this service is used by the other google apps so in case it is required, you can re-enable it).
Android setup (disable it via settings. It doesn't auto start at boot and if you uninstall it via adb you will get errors)
<The list will be updated as soon as i find more apps that can be safely disabled>
I use Brave browser, but scrolling is quite choppy with it...
Let me recommend - Monument Browser - (not as good as Brave - still feels not mature enough) but scrolling is very very smooth.
Hello,
is it possible to skip the startup check? I need to run an older version of Google App and AA wants me to update Google App first.
Or pretend that my Google App version is the current one?
The reason why I need to use Google App 7.4 for my tablet are the requirements for Google Assistant (newer versions show: Google Assistant is not working on your device.)
Thanks
Hey all,
After days of testing and comparing older APKs, I found the ideal version of Google Maps for the Huawei P40 Pro without GMS:
-no Google Play missing error on startup and/or when starting navigation
-allows saving searches locally on the device instead of having to sign in
Ideally, I wanted to find a version that doesn't come with the annoying "Nearby Places" bloat. Unfortunately this requires using a version 9.xx of Maps which crashes on startup on the P40 Pro.
Get it from here:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/maps/maps-10-29-2-release/
Check my screenshots to see the UI and save search setting!
Also, because we can't create location pins without signing into an account, if the "recent search history" does not suffice, you can create navigation widget shortcuts to your favorite places.
Hope this helps.
I would rather just install microG (quick & simple) ... then install the current version of google maps.
While MicroG is a cool alternative, my idea remains to use this phone without logging into a Google account or bringing back some GMS libraries onto the phone. No app really compares to Google Maps and this version specifically behaves perfectly.
I like the concept .. and I would join you .. if the notifications were reliable with HMS-naked .. but unfortunately pretty much all notifications are unreliable (either nothing or late or random) .. hence I am on the next best thing HMS+microG .. but if Huawei can ever fix the notifications, then I will uninstall microG and join you.

Can you please give details about the Micro G process?

Summary of Options:
HMS-naked (broken/delayed notifications on heaps of apps, even Huawei App Gallery apps)
HMS+microG (simple open-source app for notifications with google firebase cloud messaging)
HMS+GMS (notifications broken)
HMS+GMS+icebox (freeze google play store as required for notifications and unfreeze intermittently for updating apps)
microG
https://microg.org/
1. Perform a factory reset of the phone (as you need to install apps after microG install).
2. Install F-Droid app (search for the apk .. F-Droid is a store with access to search for apps)
3. Add this repo into F-Droid .... https://microg.org/fdroid/repo
4. In F-Droid, then install MicroG Services Core.
5. In F-Droid, then Install MicroG Services Framework Proxy.
6. In F-Droid, then Install the MicroG FakeStore.
6. Open the Microg Settings app. Grant it all permissions and disable battery optimizations.
7. Add your Google account.
8. Turn on Device Registration, Cloud Messaging and SafetyNet.
9. Restart your phone.
10. Open Microg Settings app, check the status under Cloud Messaging. If it says not connected enter the following in the phone app: *#*#2432546#*#* and restart your phone. Check the status again - it should say Connected. (I had to enter the phone string and restart my phone twice until it said connected).
11. Install apps
12. Check connection in microG app for Google Cloud Messaging
All this will give you is push notifications with Google Cloud Messaging (including the Google Firebase messaging).
I also had notification issues caused by either Huawei PowerGenie and Android Doze .. if the notifications work and then suddenly stop after an hour or so, then try these ..

1 - Fix Google map location and navigation errorGo to Settings / Apps & services/ Apps
- Google Play Services/ Permissions/ Location : Turn on Precise location and Allow only while in use
2 - Fix Huawei automatically stopping apps when not in useHuawei has its own way to increase battery life to save battery. So sometimes it interrupts applications that need to be running all the time to get instant information, such as Gmail, Facebook, Messenger.... To fix that we need to drill down into the settings in the settings :
Go to Settings / Privacy / Permission manager and Click on the 4 dots in the upper right corner
- Select : Special access
- Select Battery optimization
- Put a check mark in the Search apps box
- Click the triangle and select : All apps
- Select the applications that you want not to be turned off when the device sleeps ( For example Gmail, Facebook, Messenger...) and check the box Don't allow and then click OK
3 - Uninstall and reinstall the app-
We are using unofficial Google services so after every test install of Google or key Google components like Google Services and Google Services Framework we have to uninstall and reinstall those Google related applications such as Gmail, Youtube, Map.......
-It is possible that after installing changes to Google Services, the Google Services Framework those applications will still run but it will not be accurate and smooth. So it is still recommended to Uninstall and Reinstall those apps.
4 - Sync Chrome with Gmail Account
-If you already have Chrome installed then uninstall it. Before uninstalling you should Go to Settings / Apps & services/ Apps/ Chrome delete its data
-Install Chrome from Play store or apk file
-After the installation is done, do not open it-Go to Settings / Apps & services/ Apps/ Chrome/ Permissions
Allow all permissions, if you don't like it, you must grant 2 basic permissions: Contacts and Media and files
- Now you open the Chrome app and it will link to your Gmail account
5 - Disable system apps that don't work for non-Chinese users
The device works very smoothly and coolly, the battery life is significantly improved.
You use the tool ADB AppControl 1.7.9 to do that. :
[TOOL] ADB AppControl 1.8.0 🚀 Ultimate App Manager & Debloat Tool + Tweaks
ADB AppControl 🚀 Root is not required. Works with any Android device. Can do almost everything you dreamed about with applications. ADB AppControl - the desktop program, that will allow you to easily manage applications on your android device...
