I'm looking for help. When I connect to my company's exchange server, it forces down policies that turn off data when roaming, and requires a 6 digit pin to be entered in at least once every 15 minutes. My phone is rooted, running DarkDroid, deodexed and debloated. I'm trying to find a way to remove that PIN requirement. As to sync to exchange without allowing the sync to be a phone administrator. Can anyone help me with that?
Sounds like an inherited setting that your company has synced to it when you synced your company account to it. My dad's droid x acts similarly, and so does my D3 with my school email. Allowing the phone to sync with a corporate account allows for them to do things like that (like in my case it would be remote wiping, not a forcing of certain data services).
Yes, but with a rooted phone, I should be able to maintain the email without using their policies. That's my goal. And remote wipe is indeed in effect. Its very upsetting.

I'm actually an e-mail administrator for my company and am interested in this thread, as this would be a huge violation of security policies and would create a HUGE risk, which would require us to re-evaluate our mobile device policy.
A potential work-around for your issue might be to use TouchDown, I think there is a way to only prompt you for the passwords only when you open up work related emails.
I only hope your not from my company. Tho I'm certain there's a way to spoof the exchange server. It only needs to think that I have the policies. It doesn't check as the policies can't be removed while the account is active. Ill update this when I figure it out....and I will figure it out.

There is an app in the Market called "Enhanced Email" that I have been using since the OG droid came out. It allows you to sync an exchange account and bypass exchange security policies. It is a paid app, but worth it for what it does. You set up the account using the web access url and it works beautifully.

Bottom line is if you don't want to have a pin, etc, don't sync email to exchange. Either abide by the rules or don't use the service.
Try an imap connection instead?
Or get your company to use Good. We do.

Abide by the rules or don't use it, then you suggest another method of connection? Irony much?
That said, rules don't bother me. The fact that they can remote wipe my device based off a pin bothers me. Limiting my control over my device bothers me. You're right, I don't have to use it. But I want my cake and eat it too. And by all means, I'll have my cake!
FOUND!
There's an email apk that completely removes the security from the app. Can't enforce that which does not exist. I doubt there's a way "rectify" this without creating your own email app that you would push to a device.

I am using CSipSimple with Android integration turned on for secure calls via Ostel. I have been in contact with the developer and he believed it was an HTC limitation, so I phoned HTC support this morning and they said I need to use a third-party contacts app. Their People app doesn't have a custom field for sip, nor in the IM field.
I wanted to add the sip address of a person who phoned me to their existing contact and the People app crashes. I was able to do it once but it added the address as IM & AIM and of course doesn't work to phone that person.
Can someone recommend a good contacts app that would work well with the ability to integrate with csipsimple and google contacts?
For whatever reason App Data for my Google Account stopped syncing 12/12/2013 and turning it off and back on isn't resolving the issue and I'm not sure what I did between then and now that may have caused it to stop syncing. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this and how I can go about troubleshooting. Thanks! :good:
Try removing and then adding the gmail account back.

When I go to remove my Google Account it says "Removing this account will delete all of its messages, contacts, and other data from the phone!" What messages are these? SMS? What other data will be removed? I really don't feel like losing any data.

I am not sure if that refers to hangouts sms because i not sure if removing account will delete texts from hangouts. It didn't affect sms from previous sms app. I think it will just reset your settings/preferences.

Hello,
I am evaluating switching to WP8,my question is: is there any app to allow me to chat with Google Hangout contacts, and does it sync with Google contacts ?
Thanks in advance to anyone answering me.
Google contacts (and calendar) sync automatically, yes.
I haven't tried any of the Hangouts apps, but there are several available that offer group chat.
If you just want basic chat, then any app which supports GTalk (Jabber/XMPP) should still work, although I think Google may be phasing out that support in their ongoing quest to remove features that people use but which don't make money for Google. IM+ (and many other chat clients) support this protocol.
Thanks a lot for answering.
Perhaps I could evaluate to switch also to another chat system, like Viber.
Thanks

So I have this app idea (don't we all), I have been programming apps for around two years so im not a beginner, but this is my biggest project to date. I want app to allow users to login using Facebook, it allows them to post a few words to this wall in the app. It allows your Facebook freinds to view these words and they can heart it within the app. This then sends you a notification etc. I know I will need to store data to a external database. What do I store it under, their facebook profile name which I can get from when they login? Would this allow me to then get me all their freinds on Facebook and search through the database for data containing their freinds names to get their likes?
I just need a way to allow users to post, interact and share with all their other freinds of Facebook. Whilst storing data so if they logout and login on someone elses phone they load everything up that was on their phone.
Many Thanks
You will need to use something called Parse, here's a guide to setting it up with a service called Heroku, since Parse has shut down: robpercival.co.uk/parse-setup-on-heroku. Thanks
